What is wrong if Rotimi Amechi is interested in the presidency? The only reason many PRO Gej give for the with hunt of the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi is the fact that, He his interested in the presidency and to them, that means disloyalty. So i ask, what is wrong if Amaechi is interested in the presidency? |

NIGERIA WILL REMAIN UNDERDEVELOPED IN MY GENERATION By Patrick Chinedu Enwerem A glance at the title of this short write-up will tend to point to the fact that it’s all about economic indices and occurrences that have surfaced in the Nigerian economic sector in the recent past. No, I shall not waste my time writing on that particular area that experts have for long misled us. Rather, I shall take a critical look at the issue of job racketeering in the public sector and its impact on the holistic development of Nigeria in the nearest future. Job racketeering has been with us for long. In the early 60s and 70s, local chiefs and government officials engaged in job racketeering by influencing appointments and employment of their community members as well as their political associates into several positions, particularly, in the civil service. One thing that should be noted is that during this period, it was done in order to help without any monetary demand or negative ulterior motives. Those influencing at that period were magnanimous enough to put round pegs into round holes. Thus, traditional rulers did their best by identifying intelligent and well behaved members of their communities to serve in the civil service. Of recent, job racketeering has taken a new dimension in Nigeria. The latest being the one involving the recently sacked Comptroller of Nigerian Immigration Service, Mrs. Rose Uzoma. We read in the newspapers that Mrs. Uzoma unilaterally shared the over 4,500 employment allocations approved for the Immigration Service to political office holders including the First Lady, “the First Mother”, Federal Character Commission members, Minister of Interior Affairs etc. As the saying goes, charity begins at home, thus, it was equally reported that Mrs. Uzoma in collaboration with her husband, nominated over one thousand youths for employment in that agency. We were told that applicants were made to pay between Two Hundred Thousand to Four Hundred Thousand Naira before appointment letters were issued to them. Having said that, I and I believe, so many Nigerians were shocked at Mrs. Uzoma’s sack knowing fully well that once job opportunities were shared among political heavy weights like Mrs. Uzoma did, everything sails through. It was not until few days back that rumours came up that she was sacked because she failed to ensure that the names on the list of some political godfathers were included in the final names released for employment. It is a very well known fact that job racketeering is very common in all the paramilitary agencies in Nigeria; be it Customs, Police, Prisons, Road Safety Corps, Civil Defense etc. Federal Government ministries and parasatals are not left out in this ugly trend. These jobs are shared to those in the Presidency, National Assembly Members, Governors, Ministers, party officials and other high ranking political office holders. I make bold to say that in the last 10 years, no Nigeria youth has been employed in any of these agencies and ministries on merit basis. It’s not possible and I stand to be corrected! It has been either a youth pays his/her way through or a godfather as mentioned above pushes for him/her not minding if the youth involved is qualified. In fact, it is a common knowledge that in some agencies and ministries, applicants are requested to pay between half a million to one million Naira. Therefore, I am still very much confused on the major reason(s) behind Mrs. Uzoma’s sack. A lot of potential reasons come to my mind; could it be because of her gender or tribe? Hmmm, that will be for another day. The immediate implications of these unfortunate occurrences in the employment exercise embarked by most of these federal government ministries and agencies are that the level of corruption will definitely increase. The fact remains that having been coerced to pay outrageous amount in the name of securing employment, these youths have been indirectly encouraged to engage in corrupt practices. They will endeavour to recoup all that they have spent in the process of seeking for employment and of course, will want to do it on a larger scale. Therefore, I expect a surge in corruption when my generation finally takes over from our current leaders. There is also the likelihood that most of the youths employed through this racketeering in these very critical and important agencies will end up portraying nonchalant attitude; after all, most of them were forced to take up these jobs by their influential parents or uncles. Take for instance, a custom officer that was coerced to take up the job being deployed at one of the major sea ports or land borders? He/she will definitely look the other way while dangerous goods are cleared for entry into the country. The recent security challenges being experienced in Nigeria could be attributed to this ugly trend of job racketeering. I have seen a lot of youths that got discouraged and even depressed after seeing their schoolmates and friends who they were better off in terms of academics and character secure lucrative government jobs, just because they have godfathers or money to bribe their way. In most cases, these less fortunate youths are forced to take to crimes such as kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery, militancy etc. One thing those engaging in job racketeering as well as government itself have failed to realise is the fact that when a graduate, despite how mundane and foolish he/she may look decides to take to crime, he/she will definitely make a great security threat. Little wonder today we have kidnappers, terrorists, armed robbers as well as militants who handle arms and ammunition better than our trained soldiers and police officers. They equally forget that as they are empowering their children and cronies, their colleagues who are not fortunate enough to have godfathers will not allow them enjoy their often ill-gotten wealth. Recently, we were all gladdened when the Nigerian Senate deliberated on this monster, but I have my serious reservations. As the Senate President rightly said, senators need to be careful in accusing the heads of these government agencies. According to the retired army general, most of the senators may have written them soliciting for one illegal favour which I must say includes influencing employment exercises. If I may add, he who seeks equity must come with clean hands. Thus, I strongly believe that the current ‘gragra’ from our ‘distinguished’ senators could be best described as goose chasing. They have for long been part of the job racketeering cabal and playing saints at this moment just because their nominees did not make it will not help them. My questions; who will initiate the much expected reforms in Nigeria in my generation? Is it our current leaders who delight so much in corruption and nepotism or the youths that are being duped in order to secure jobs in federal government agencies? Is it possible for one to engage in bribery to secure a job and then turn around to change the system and strategy that brought him/her in? Is a youth that doesn’t have any sort of flair for paramilitary or civil service profession end up becoming a patriotic and successful officer/worker? Where are we heading to with this job racketeering? Does it mean that any youth in Nigeria no matter how intelligent and qualified who does not have a godfather will never realise an ambition of becoming a civil servant/officer? Why should our supposedly fathers and leaders be so wicked to deprive my generation opportunities our grandfathers and great grandfathers gave them on a platter of gold? Having looked at all these questions with little or no answers from neither my humble self nor those around me, I have no option than to conclude that Nigeria may not actualise its potentials in my generation and will remain underdeveloped. http://news.tmipu.org/articles/news_articles_01.html |
What is security vote? How is it determined? Who allocated it and who makes account for how it is being spent? Despite these high rate of security votes, why do we still have this high rate of insecurity? I think something is wrong. |

How will Amaechi survive Jonathan's witch hunt without without his immunity? To those who always stand against immunity for Governors and others, i think the ongoing political witch hunt of the Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi by the President,Goodluck Jonathan should open our eyes to the fact that, though, those who wrote our constitution may not be perfect, but they are thoughtful and reasonable in their consideration and provision of immunity for Governors. We may have been misusing it, but i think i they have a good reason for such provision. Do you think Amaechi stand a chance to survive without his immunity? |

say ameen to the prayers is you truly believe Gej has transformed Nigeria and claim the transformation to your life.. its a choice.. if you didnt claim it, i will presume you are a fake supporter of Gej. |
1. During Obj's tenure as the president of Nigeria between 1999-2007, he was confronted with several challenges of insecurity that at a point, many thinks everything is going down, as crisis keeps springing up from every angle. From the violent and deadly riot in kano and Kaduna which claimed countless lives, to the crisis in Jos,Akwa Ibom and Ekiti which prompt the President to declare a state of emergency. The Ife and Modakeke massive crisis in Osun state aswell as Offa erin ile crisis in Kwara. This is apart from the violent situation in bayelsa state, aswell as the OPC lagos crisis among several others. To solve the problems, Obj didn't hide under this crisis as an excuse for his failure, he take credit for his little performance and he also took full responsibility for his massive failure as a leader. He didn't say, i failed because of the crisis, he simply handled it without blaming any opponent. He ended the insecurities like nothing ever happened while at the same time not blaming anyone for the situation. He simply did what he his elected to do as the commander in chief without blaming anyone, protecting lives and properties of the citizens of Nigeria across the country. 2. During Yar'adua's tenure as the president of nigeria between 2007- 2010, he was also confronted with several security challenges. The Boko haram sect were one and also, the Niger delta militant among others. Yar'adua in his short life as president didnt blame the crisis for his failure, he simply handled it and claim the glory for his little achievements and take full responsibility for his massive failure. Yar'adua ended the Boko haram insecurity in 2009,ended the Niger Delta militancy and never blamed anyone for the problems. He didn't accuse the Niger delta leaders who armed and sponsored the Militant,he just did what he was elected to do as the commander in chief, without pointing accusing fingers to anyone. 3. During Goodluck Jonathan tenure as the president of Nigeria between 2010-2015, he was confronted with several challenges of insecurity like that of OBJ and Yar'adua before him, but instead of handling the situation in the best interest of the citizens like his predicessors, he decided to do something different. He tribalized the insecurity, regionalized it, religionize it and divided the country into north vs south and also further divided it into Christians vs Muslim. Instead of handling the security challenges as the president of the country with sincereity, he decided to find enemies to blame, pointing accusing fingers to his political opponents instead of dealing with the crisis as the commanedr in chief. Instead of enlisting the support of all to end the crisis,he tagged his political opponent as the cause of the crisis, linking them without any basis to the violent sect, yet asking them to support him to end it. Just like a house owner who accused his neighbor of being the criminal who stole in his building and at the same time asking the neighbor to join him in finding the criminal. This is after the National Security adviser(Azazi) has `said that, PDP is boko haram and boko haram is pdp. pdp is the president and the president is pdp. This is also after a senator of the same presidents party(pdp) had been arrested as a sponsor of the boko haram sect, which the senator`also said, the vice president is aware of all his activities with the boko haram. Instead of handling the security challenges, he decided to empower different militant groups like OPC, MEND, individual militants etc with oil contracts to threaten the nation with further violence and destruction. Instead of handling the insecurity, his aid(kuku) went to the international community to threaten the country by saying, if GEJ is not re-elected for 2nd term, there will not be peace in the Niger Delta. As a follow up to that, the empowered militant (Asari) further threaten the country that, if GEJ is not elected for the second term, there won't be peace not just in Niger Delta, but in the whole of the country. With the above submission, there is no doubt that we know the source of the present insecurity. However, It is a shame that the president could not take the responsibility of his actions and in actions, always finding someone to blame for his doing and undoing. When he failed to provide good governance, he blamed insecurity, when he was confronted with insecurity, he blamed his political opponents. when he removed fuel subsidy to inflict untold pain and hardship on the innocent masses, he blamed the opposition parties. when he refused to declare his assets, he blamed media, when he pardoned a corrupt criminal who stole billions from developmental funds, he blamed both local and international communities for speaking against it, when he failed to be a good leader, he blamed leadership itself. What a leader. |

Wow, i didn't know a drama is going on here. Marx, the prayer you said is still yours to say ameen. You supported the past and the president leader destroying Nigeria, i never did. Never to the past, not to the present. I don't support destruction and underdevelopment. 1. 2010 - 2013 Gej is Nigeria's president. Present leader 2. 2007-2010 gej is Nigeria's vice president. Past leader. 3. 2005 to 2007, gej is a Nigerian state Governor. Past leader. 4. 1999-2005, get is a Nigerian deputy state governor. Past leader. Oya marx, say ameen and claim your transformation. |
‘’ Last week, my mum who had developed some sickness during my service year requires an urgent medical attention, but I was unable to take her to the hospital because I had no money. I am the first born of my family and my younger once are still in school, The NYSC is still holding my 6 months allowances after 3 months of my service. My mum later died due to lack of medical attention. It was the NYSC that killed my mum, because if they had released my allowances, I would have used it to take care of her.’’ The Youth Corp member said to me, the NYSC has finally killed my mum and I would stop at nothing to get justice. Narrating what happened in tears, he said, My name is Tunde Jibril Salau, a Batch A National Youth Service Corps member who served in government day secondary school, Offa with state Code KW/12A/2518 between 2012/2013. I am presently owed NYSC allowances for the months of April 2012, May 2012, June 2012, August 2012, January 2013 and another half payment for my one month extension in March 2013 which in total is N108,900.00. Explaining the genesis of the issue, he said, I relocated from Cross River State due to my health status and I reported immediately after the 3 weeks camp to Ilorin in Kwara State to fill all necessary documents in the state secretariat. I got my posting on 26th of April 2012 after waiting for more than three weeks of regular visit to the secretariat on the ground that their system was bad, and in fact, all the money I brought from home was totally exhausted on the frequent and regular transportation to the NYSC secretariat over the 3 weeks. I reported to my first place of primary assignment (PPA) in Government Day Secondary School Ipee on Friday 28th of April 2012 and was rejected. According to them, they don’t need the service of a corps member that studied accounting, but someone that studied English Language After being rejected, Tunde Salau said, I reported back to Ilorin the following Monday and I was asked to go to Ilemona but I will have to come back on the third day to get my new ID CARD. On the day I got my Identity card, I reported to ilemona and on getting to there, there was nobody in the NYSC office and I was made to understand that, they don’t usually come to the office on a daily basis that I should come back on Tuesday or Thursday. I eventually met the NYSC staff in charge some days later, who demanded that I should pay for a file which was opened for me and my data’s collected. They asked me to go round Oyun local government myself to get a PPA that the NYSC can’t provide for me. I have to rush down to Ilorin to further borrow money that will enhance my traveling from one village to the other in search of a PPA in a place that I don’t know. After the first week of my search without any luck, I reported back to them and I was told to go to Offa if I can get any school and on getting to Offa, the only School that accepted me said they would neither accommodate nor pay the allowance stipulated in the letter and due to time constraint, I have to accept the offer since I have no choice. Tunde Salau further explained what happened while working in Ilemono and how the NYSC owed him the amount mentioned above. He explained that, I started working with my employer in the last week of May 2012 and before I got my reposting letter from the NYSC office in Ilemona, I informed the NYSC LI that I have not been paid for April and May allowances and they assured me of getting it, that NYSC doesn’t owe anyone. The week I came for my first CDS in the month of June, I was informed that they have signed the clearance for the month of June, but I wasn’t informed about any clearance by anyone because I am the only corpers in Government day senior secondary school Offa who knew himself. I complained bitterly to the LI, asking her how she thinks I could survive without been paid my allowances since I have no accommodation in Offa where I am serving that I had to be transporting myself from Ilorin to Offa on a daily basis, but she assured me that I will be properly informed in the coming months, I dropped the clearance letter that I collected from my employer for the months of May and June and I left. Before I left the office, she made me realise that there was no way i could even do the clearance for the month of June because I do not have an account with ECOBANK that I will have to open one. In the month of August, I received a text message on Wednesday evening that there will be clearance on Thursday and Friday, but the school were on holiday. On Thursday, I quickly went to Offa and after I was able to locate my principal’s resident since they are on holiday, I was told she went for a meeting in Ilorin and I waited, but as it was getting late, I had to return to Ilorin. I went back to Offa on Friday and meet my principal who gave me the clearance around 1 pm on Friday and before 1:30 pm I have gotten to Ilemona, on getting to Ilemona, there was no NYSC staff on ground to attend to me, then our CLO told me to go to Offa that I will meet them there. I quickly boarded another bike to Offa and I got to Offa secretariat around 1:45pm, only for Mr Seyi, the NYSC staff to tell me that they have closed that I will have to meet One Mr Owolabi another NYSC staff on Monday in Ilorin. I met Mr Owolabi on Monday and explained the situation to him, he told me to write an application to that effect. I wrote an application for the month of august along with the other months yet unpaid, but it was a surprise that the same LI, who has always calm and assured me of getting my money to change and start pretending as if she doesn’t know i am being owed the 3 previous months. She queried me and I answered the query immediately, when she read through my respond to the query, she asked me if I wanted to put her in trouble for answering the query that way, she told me that I should be very brief and told me to remove some lines and even assured me that I will be given all my money. Two months later, I approached her again; she still continued assuring me, not until I was called from Ilorin by the NYSC disciplinary committee. After much interrogation by the disciplinary committee, I was told that my inability to sign the August allowance was my Negligence. i was told I will be informed about the outcome of the CDC as soon as possible and I was not informed until the day of our passing out that it discovered that i will be going on a 1 month extension with half payment for not signing my August allowance, error due to the negligence of the NYSC staffs. Now, I have completed the one month extension and when I asked them for all my 6 month unpaid allowances, they said they can only pay me for two months even including the January that I dully signed for, but was not paid. When I approached the account officer in the NYSC secretariat, he said they mistakenly omitted the page where my name is and they showed me the page that was omitted since February and up till date, I have not been paid. I called the account officer in late March 2013 again to remind him and he was asking me who gave me his number. He ended the call and ask me never to call him again. I don’t know the account officers name but his phone number is 08035618116. Tunde Salau bitterly said, I have served this country diligently under the rain and in the sun for thirteen good months despite my health condition; in fact I mostly go to classes on empty stomach and occasionally walk from Offa to Ilemona on CDS days during my service year in those months that I was not paid. This has really affected my health and caused several damages in my body system. While I was taking my tuberculosis treatment, I was warned by my doctor to desist from eating dry food and must always take balance diet. I started walking a very long distance, eating garri contrary to the advice of my doctor due to the fact that I was not paid my allowances and all I could get for being patriotic is one month extension for the negligence of the NYSC staff and unpaid 6 month allowances. I have completed my 1 month extension since March,2013, but till date, 16th of May, 2013, I have not received my six month allowances from the NYSC. I have written the State Coordinator and other departments of the NYSC, but nothing was heard from any of them till date. Last week, my mum who had developed some sickness during my service year requires an urgent medical attention, but I was unable to take her to the hospital because I had no money. I am the first born of my family and my younger once are still in school, The NYSC is still holding my 6 months allowances after 3 months of my service. My mum later died due to lack of medical attention. It was the NYSC that killed my mum, if they had released my allowances, I would have used it to take care of her. With these actions, it is assumed that we have been made to realise that in Nigeria, we will always be punished for being at the right side of the law but I promise, the attitude of the NYSC would never make me deviate from always doing the right thing in other to move this country of ours forward. The damage caused by NYSC is getting unbearable for me because i have tolerated them enough and i don’t know what my next action would be It is worth to note that, the narration of Tunde Salau is one out of the countless occurrences of such ugly situation at NYSC. Besides Tunde Salau, I have equally meet others who had similar experience, though less severe. Countless youth Corp members usually depart their state of service without being paid their allowances. Why would a corps member who served his fatherland diligently be treated in such manner? Who is benefiting from all these unpaid allowances? A question the NYSC must answer. I urge all well-meaning Nigerians to come to the aid of this young patriotic Nigerian. Tunde Salau can be reached on 08026102285 http://www.elombah.com/index.php/latest-news/15879-nysc-has-finally-killed-my-mum-youth-corp-member-cries-out |

Finally,i have conceded to your arguement about Gej's great performance and i agree that President Jonathan has done so wonderfully well. I also agree that he his the best president Nigeria ever had as you want me to believe. Let me just conclude and pray that, may God hand over the govt of your life to Gej. May God run your life the way gej has been running Nig. May he pardon the Alam that is embezzling your progress and award the contract of securing your life to Asari militant. May he remove the subsidy that makes your life easy and increase the cost of your life's plate number. Pls say ameen. |
