The president of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has redeemed his $50,000 pledge to the Super Eagles. Dangote, who was represented by the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Mr. Olakunle Alake, presented the cheque to the national team officials at his office, in Ikoyi, Lagos.

It would be recalled that Amaju Pinnick, the President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) had revealed during the just concluded African Cup of Nations that Africa’s richest businessman, Aliko Dangote promised $50,000 for every goal scored during their Semi-Final match against Algeria while Femi Otedola promised to pay $25,000 per goal for the same match.

Dangote promised to continue his support to the development of sports in Nigeria. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) team in attendance during the presentation of cheque include: Super Eagles Equipment Manager, Chidi Ngoka; Super Eagles Team Administrator, Dayo Achor Enebi and Super Eagles International, John Ogu.

A 13-year-old pupil identified as Egbadon Overcome has been killed by flood while on his way to school. Late Overcome was a primary 3 pupil of Idumu Ague Primary School in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State. She was said to have been swept away by the flood after a heavy downpour.

Her body was removed by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

“The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board regrets to announce the unfortunate death of Egbadon Overcome, a 13-year-old primary 3 pupil of Idumu Ague Primary School, in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State," Dr. Oviawe said.

Muktar Betara Aliyu was named Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, while Oluwole Oke emerged Chairman, Committee on Public Accounts.

Others are James Faleke (Chairman, House Committee on Finance), AbdulRasak Namdas (Chairman of Committee on Army), Nicholas Mutu (Chairman, Committee on Gas Resources) and Tunji Ojo (Chairman of the NDDC Committee).

A 30-year-old barber, identified simply as Tersur, yesterday died after rescuing a drowning pig from the gutter in front of his shop in Gboko East Local Government Area of Benue State.

A witness said Tersur collapsed and died moments after rescuing the pig. Tersur abandoned his work, when he saw the pig in the gutter in front of his shop, being swept away by the heavy flow of water.

“Tersur refused to listen to entreaties to allow the pig to perish. He got a helper and they both swung into action; the pig was saved after both Tersur and the helper were drenched. What ordinarily looked like a good gesture from Tersur turned to sorrow when he slumped immediately after bringing the pig out of the gutter,” the witness said.

Tersur was rushed to a private hospital around the vicinity, but doctors at the facility confirmed him dead. Those close to Tersur said his death was as strange as it was sudden. They, however, attributed it to the will of God.

Last night, immediate past governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi and his wife, Florence, hosted their daughter, Ajijola, to a pre-graduation dinner which held at The Annabel's in the United Kingdom.

Ajijola who is otherwise known as Ajay, will be graduating from a UK university sometime this week. The dinner was attended by the Ajimobi children as well as Ajijola's rumored boyfriend, Seyi Gbadamosi.

The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 57-year-old man identified as Tijjani Yahaya, for allegedly stabbing his 20-year-old brother, Aminu Mohammad, to death.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, in Kano on Sunday. He said that the incident occurred at Annandin Islamic School, Kofar Ruwa, Dala local government area of Kano state on July 19, at about 9:00 p.m. According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that Yahaya and the victim had a misunderstanding and, in the process, Yahaya stabbed him on his chest with a sharp knife.

“The suspect was arrested and the knife was recovered,” the PPRO stated. Haruna said the victim was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital Kano, where he died while receiving treatment.

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu, ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department for discreet investigation.

Yesterday, Big Brother housemate, Ike turned 27 and was specially celebrated by his fellow housemate and lover, Mercy, who promised to kiss him 27 times.

At one point, the pair who are regarded as one of the sweetest couples in the reality show were filmed kissing in the front of other housemates.

In her birthday speech to Ike, Mercy said: ' I can be a bitch, but you have 'resetted' my brain, You quenched my fire. 'You changed my whole game plan and you have made me a better person.'

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Friday described the late Mrs Olufunke Olakunrin as a woman of exceptional character. He urged Nigerians to emulate her virtues.

At the commendation service held for her at Harbour Point, Victoria Island, he said Olakunrin gave her best to humanity.

According to him, Olakunrin was closer to the ordinary people than the rich and the mighty, noting that she did her best to better lives of those who came her way.

He said the deceased was full of compassion and quick to forgive those who crossed her path.

“To know Funke is to know an exceptional human being. People will also attest to her goodness and nobleness. She cared for the poor more than she cared for the rich. She came to be an honour to her parents any family. “This bright star was taken from us in the most terrible way.

“Funke and I shared great moments and I benefitted immensely from her wisdom. This bright star was taken away from us in a very terrible manner. “I pray that the Almighty God will give the family and the father the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
