For quite sometime now, players in the construction industry are having to choose between the Bio Digester Sewage System and the conventional Soakaway System for their sewage management need. The Bio Digester Sewage System can rightly be refered to a "new kid on the block" because it's relatively new in the construction lexicon in Nigeria. If we are to put a number to it, the system has been around here for some 8years. And, for these 8 solid years, it has proved to its users that it can really be relied on as a sustainable, efficient alternative to the conventional Soakaway.

As we know, safe and proper sewage management is very key to a society's public health. Lack of it would surely leads to variety of health challenges like cholera, diarrhea and the likes. These public health issues aren't new to our society because in most cases, we are found wanting. The issue of open air defecation, contamination of our groundwater, Soakaway been overflowed etc are challenges we must have to deal with if safe sewage management means anything to us.

The Soakaway System as a means of Sewage Management has been around for a good number of years in Nigeria however it has got a number of shortcomings. Top on the list are:

It's a biological waste treatment and management system where living microorganisms are used to degrade solid and liquid waste, and converts it into useful by-products. The Bio Digester defeats all the shortcomings of the Soakaway System in that at no point will the constructed tank gets full that it would be required to empty. No wonder Nigerian builders are switching to this clean and healthy means of Sewage Management.

However, it's very key to note that not everyone that claims to know how to install it actually know how to; we now have quacks/charlatans who parade themselves as installers. Let's do our due diligent before engage the service of anyone who claims to know how to do it. My company has worked on several poorly executed jobs.

Update on our Lakowe project:

As a reminder, we would build/install 6units of the Bio Digester Sewage System. 4 units of the 6 have been casted with the other 2 at formwork level. Once all tanks have been casted, we would sink them then commence installation.

The precast method is adopted because of the high water table around here.

This method of waste management is fast becoming the norm because of its outstanding benefits over the conventional soakaway system.
