Even houses with the DPM? What could be the reason for that in the region.

The pictures below are the current state of a friends property. In and out has been affected as shown. A duplex. Any remedy to this at this stage?

Also notice the belt and tiles around the base didn't seem to have much cushion effect.

In one of my recent comments is said it if Dpc fail either with Dpm or not you can still experience risen Dampness as shown in the pictures.

I observe from the pictures not all effects is risen dampness.
Some seems like plumbing defect /leakage from the T tap Continuously this can lead to (Dampness)

If said to be Risen dampness is more tougher than Dampness


And I also state it that if the dpm is not properly installed it can leads to failure in the Dpc. I want us to also know that not any how nylon means Dpm.

To take care of risen dampness it has to be from foundation block work.
I believe Professional in the house understand that.

And also one must understand the nature of land is building on that’s to know how healthy the land is and which likely sicknesses is prone to.

All this information will guide us what of type of Dpm to be in used and Application.

Hardly do you see dampened walls in the east. I can tell you, almost all the old buildings are without dpc .

Currently I’m working in Eastern part I can tell you categorically that they do experience Risen dampness 💯 despite the fact of they’re construction approach, which they always use beams to take foundation level regardless of any type of building still they do fight with risen dampness.

Let all remember Nigeria are yet to have a Standard.
We are still using British standard. Which Dpc and Dpm clearly expressed.



Mind you all this recommended Construction method can still failed. If it is not properly done.

In a layman Dictionary: Damp prof course (Dpc) Is a a stage or layer btw foundation and Superstructure .

Damp prof membrane (Dpm). Is a material or element.
And this can be use in any area of Construction Building Or Road. For a technical purpose more than dampness.

To all this Definition is more than this! Technically or Professionally.

To your Question sir, avoiding DPC in building construction is nt good enough.

Atleast like the one in the quoted picture should be done because that’s proper Dpc .
If one can’t afford oversight floor.

The one in reference picture is done to manage the available fund to raise up the block work then later do the normal flooring.

Instead of oversight floor to exhaust all the cash at hand guess you understand unto KOBO KOBO.😂
