Hello people. Landed san fracisco 12pm US time. My story is long but I will start from somewhere. I'm actually going to Maryland for childbirth but hubby has a conference in San Francisco so we decided to go together.
Flew Emirates and it was wonderful. We booked economy but Hubby and I used our Skyward Miles to upgrade to business class so we flew Business class at no extra cost and the experience is better imagined. If I start narrating the experience today, I won't finish. Hubby also got an emirate coupon to be cheffuur driven from dubai to an hotel for the layover so we were able to sleep and take our baths, also had breakfast. They also picked us back frm the hotel to the airport. Landed at SF and our flight was the only one that arrived at the airport. Hubby was only asked why he was in the us, he mentioned the conference and that was all. Nobody even ask me anytin. They took our fingerprints and stamped us in. shikena.. I was shocked. We got to the custom, they took our custom card and the man asked about my job. I told him and he said welcome to san Francisco.we were also cheffuer driven from the airport to our hotel we booked coutesy of emirates. Chilling in SF now till after the conference then straight to MD. All glory to God. because I prayed and prayed for Favour and he answered. My heart was beating when we got to the airport but God had already prepared the way for us.

Hi everyone

For those preggies who plan to do Atlanta you can google Grady Memorial Hospital.

A colleague had 3 of his kids there, the first according to him was $10k, while the other 2 was $6k max (he also said these fee were all-inclusive)
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by bj2012golf(m): 5:24pm On Dec 02, 2014
@rail

Lol!

We did right by disclosing what we intended to do. Some didn't and were given visa. My colleagues who went that route are rejoicing today, believing they are smart.

I know fully well some who disclosed were given visa, with even cheaper hospital/ OBGYN fees

@yefa

1) Of course I know Dr D Ziworitin in board certified and has been practising in the US sinc e 1996. No qualms about that
2) I know doctors do not own hospitals as it obtains here and I am also aware Dr Z uses the other hospitals you mentioned.

We chose oakbend, which is reputed to be a very popular n good hospital in houston for 2 reasons
1) My wife and I are familiar with the richmond area, don't know about sugar land tho.
2) We have a care provider less than 5 mins from Oakbend who provides accommodation, nanny services, transportation, be in the labour room since I will not be there until after 2 weeks of delivery. (An RCCG member providing comprehensive service for nursing mothers)

I honestly do not have anything against Dr Z nor Oakbend as relating to reputation. Dr Z was recommended by a friend who's wife was delivered of a baby by him at oakbend.

Guess you'll make a great VO knowing who is eligible or not
Regards

yefa:

Dear all,
Doctors in America do not own Hospitals.
A doctor gets priveleges at different hospitals of their choice.
They run their practice and deliver patients at the hospitals they have priveleges at.

Dr Dama Alexander Ziworitin is BOARD CERTIFED obstetrician/Gynecologist who has delivered and continue to deliver a lot of patients in Houston, Texas at 3 different Hospitals- Memorial Hermann Hospital in Sugar Land, Methodist Hospital in Sugar land and Oakbend Medical Center in Richmond, Texas.

Oakbend Medical Center just happens to be the cheapest for deliveries and so Nigerians like to take advantage of it.

If you did not get a visa, it is because the VO may not have been convinced that you are eligible for a non-immigrant visa. It has nothing to do with the estimated cost, Hospital or the Obstetrician with whom you have made contact.

Yeah you mentioned sumthg interesting, your VO said it starts from $10k up, ours said $20k upwards.

These guys are just taking us for a ride, I guess they are enjoying themselves see us try to argue our way thru their decisions!

To be continued ...

SisiOlu:

Hi bj2012golf,

I mentioned the same thing yesterday. The female VO that interviewed me said she understands that delivery charges are around 10,000 dollars and above. I responded that my quote had been discounted by 40% for self pay patients as I was paying cash upfront. I even offered to show her other cost estimates from other hospitals in the same state which she declined.

A pregnant lady that was interviewed by another VO got her visa approved. So dunno...

Was it a black lady that interviewed you too? So what do you intend to do now. Please let me know so i can adopt it or we can plan together.

What transcript do you refer to?

End to end, doctors, pediatrician, anesthetician (sic), ultrasound, everything.

One thing to note, you may not believe it tho, but all the VO's are clerks as told me by my friend who is an american

PrinceAdeAde:

@bj2012golf,

Would appreciate if you can share your transcript and also i asked a question earlier which I would be grateful you answer "Was the VO referring to delivery charges as the end to end delivery fees containing docs, hospital, pediatrics, anesthesia etc OR she was just particular on hospital charges alone"
Travel / Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by bj2012golf(m): 2:52pm On Dec 02, 2014
Hi

This time it was a young white guy, not the bearded elderly man. The black american lady in the first cubicle denied us the first time.

I'm open to a 3rd attempt, but that is predicated on if we can get a date in december or first week january, but wifey is just upset at them right now.

My advise is to consider abuja as the next location, tho its unlikely we'll go that route. I don't know how else one can be so honest and genuine, all my colleagues wifes never indicated they would be birthing in the US. Today not less than 4 of them have succeded this year alone, no disclosure!

Hi

Just back from the 2nd interview in 19 days, the first was a denial. No mention of d first denial, straight to questions:

VO: why are you here?
Me: for renewal of our visa for visiting & wifey going for birthing
VO: do you av a doctor?
Me: yes
Vo: what's his name? And hospital?
Wifey: dr d ziworitinvo, oak bend medical centre
Vo: how did you know him?
Me: made enquiries on internet and when we were in houston during our may vacation
Vo: do you have quotes?
Me: yes, hands over all documents n budget sheet as requested by the VO
Vo: read through, typed. For several moments
Checked both dom & naira acct statements
Vo: unfortunately the quote from the hospital of $8,650.00 is unrealistic, the fee ranges between $20k to $30k. Unable to give the visa
Me: this is a cash pay package blah, blah
Case closed

Hmm, is there anything wrong with oakbend medical centre & dr Z? Maybe we should have used another doctor/hospital?

Just heard that sumone was given visa with even less doctor/hospital quote, so what's the deal?

Amen!

Thanks

I heard the testimony of a couple who were eventually granted visa on the 3rd consecutive attempt disregarding the 90 day window.

Please don't retreat, you could be 3rd time favored

I will brief the house on the outcome

SisiOlu:

Goodluck tomorrow. Please let me know the outcome so i can determine whether to re-apply disregarding the 90 day period. I am also considering getting an immigration lawyer to find out the particular reason of denial.

All the best again. You shall testify IJN. Amen

So sorry about the 2nd denial, hmm I read through that link ... Well it is what it is.

My wife and I were denied on 13th Nov, we are scheduled for another interview tomorrow, we disregarded the 90 day window ...

It shall be well regardless

*sigh*

SisiOlu:
Hi guys,

Sadly, I was denied again today though i went with the famous burden of proof and fulfilled the 90 day window period.

I noted two important things: you must leave a window period of 90 days before re-applying after a refusal and it seems the VOs wanna see quotes that are above $6,000 as they believe hospitals charge far more than that.

To other people still trying to get visas, Goodluck and all the best. If u were previously denied based on section 214b, check out this link http://visarefusal.com/214b/ for preparation.

Please if you have any information on processing canadian visa, kindly holla

Yes we have our 1st child not in the US tho. Home ties? We've been to the US before and Uk as a family.

I actually have other quotes from Dr. La and Dr. Zimmerman

Thank you for your comments, very helpful

SisiOlu:
@ BJ2012golf,

Do you have another child? The blue paper 214b refers to inability to show strong ties to home country. Did u show her your budget which should include miscellanous for unplanned expenses.

I think your wife should apply alone this time or with ur MIL. Another alternative is to get several quotes from other doctors within/below the same range to prove that the amount is not too low as other hospitals charge about same price. Also, try and leave a window period before your next inteview so u dnt appear desperate. Lastly, fast and pray for favour.

Goodluck in your next interview.

CONGRATULATIONS!

I keep wondering why d African-American VO in d 1st cubicle denied us and gave us d blue paper!

My wife , MIL and I were denied, despite presenting Dr D Ziwortin'si letter, with receipt of part payment of $1k, Oakbend hospital's letter n breakdown of all fees of $8k.

The VO's main grouse was dat $8k was too low for birthing cost!?

Going back next week Tuesday though, we've deposited abt $10k in my dom acct to add to d naira statement which has N3.4m. Abi dat one too low too??

Jomikish:

I'm not so much of a 'typist'... Bt I'd try

Vo: Good morning, where will u be going to in US?
Me: Texas
Vo: what will u go there for?
Me: We are having a baby
Vo: oh great! Do u have contact with a doctor already?
Me: yes... (Then I started flipping thru to give her ) and says to my hubby, ; while we wait for her, can u tell me where u work and what u do there.... Hubby responds... Bla bla
I handed her the mails and letter of medical responsibility. She just dumped it and keeps typing. I guess the letter headed paper did not even interest her ....
She asks for our statements. Has a balance of 1.7mm. She asked for hubby's and we left it in the car!!!! Phew....

She smiled and said it was fine. She then brought the white form, and says that she can't make a decision yet coz doctoresparati ain't doctors and she can't approve for me to give Ma money to fixers. She advised us to get another doc and says that will give us a true pix of the cost.

We went back a week later with Oakbend bills and mails from Dr Fagbohun. She asked to see statements again and that was it. I was just dancing in Ma mind. Lol. God is faithful!

@bj2012golf,

From my own interview, what triggered the VO looking at the wall was when i and my wife was asked about our monthly income so i believe they have a sort of analysis sheet that grades you based on monthly income. From what i gathered online, based on searches about what to put in the monthly income field and from my friend staying in the US, i was advised to take my gross earnings and divide by 12. that i did not do as i just put my net monthly income which is minus some quarterly payments ,pensions, tax deduction and be bee looo. I saw this advice on some american embassy sites for india, mexico but naija own was not that specific so i think my VO took my income as gross monthly and applied an estimate of further expected deductions on it and determined that was not sufficient to fund a US trip even without asking for a bank statement so that is something i am correcting on the next application

Also, i strongly believed that the VO saw little or no ties to home country as na my whole family dey apply so my wife is applying alone next time to so such ties. All the deductions by VO was based on the form DS160 information as she did not ask for any evidences

I hope this analysis can help you during your next interview.Sent you a PM.
