The Lagos State Government says discussion about the development of agricultural commodity value chain with Niger State aimed at ensuring food security and job creation for the two states and the country has started.

The government on Wednesday added that the Lagos-Niger partnership, the second of its kind that the state would be entering into under the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode administration, would be directed at boosting the Gross Domestic Product of the two states.

Ambode, who spoke during a courtesy visit by the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, to the Lagos House, Ikeja, said the state had also entered into partnership with Kebbi State on the development of the agricultural commodity value chain.



He added that the Lagos-Niger partnership was aimed at producing 70 per cent of Nigeria’s rice requirements annually, as well as boosting the production of wheat, groundnut, maize, millet, sorghum and sugarcane, among others.

He said, “This relationship is visionary and it is also a pointer to the fact that the two states have decided to openly support the vision of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We must look inward. We must start to reintegrate our economy in such a manner that we must not continue to import what we can produce and we must create a value chain where we have comparative advantage to do so.”

Bello said the discussion centered on how to explore the comparative advantage of the two states to the benefit of people in the country.

He said, “Our discussion centered on agriculture and how Niger State can partner Lagos State to boost agriculture to the benefit of both states and Nigeria.”

According to the Ace comedian, this beautiful lady, Chinenye is dead. she died in a fire accident and this has seemed to be so emotional on Bovi. With what he has painted, she must have been an angel, a very welcoming lady that everyone would have loved to be with. May her soul rest in perfect peace.

"Chinenye is dead". The words punctured my eyes like a sword to my chest. I didn't believe what I had just read. I met @nenyebelle three years ago in Oghere where I had gone to host a retreat. She was one of the ushers hired to work at the event. Amongst all the girls, she stood out with her radiant smile that seemed to slow down the sunset. She was warm, friendly, civil and professional. Our brief chat was so hilarious and informative, I instantly fell for her charm.

Even though we exchanged numbers at the end of the event, it was another year before I ran into her again at an event in ikeja. This time she was a guest. We exchanged pleasantries and our chat was brief because we really didn't have a lot to catch up on! This time around she was draped with the poise and composure of a lady who had matured with time while retaining her youthful bounce. It would be another 6-8 months before I will talk with her again.

She had decided to start a business as I had advised. She was creating her own unique flavors for her cocktail business. She complained about the slow patronage and other difficulties. But I encouraged her to continue assuring her that it was just a stepping stone and not a stumbling block. Well, after finishing her service last year and going at life with positive determination, another car from nowhere lost control, burst into flames and hit the vehicle she was in. The fire extended to her vehicle and sadly she couldn't make it out on time.

She had severe burns. This was last month. @nenyebelle fought for her life gallantly. Even though physically she was unrecognizable, her spirit was unmistaken. She took her last breath on Sunday. Her very first day in sainthood. I don't know what to wish for but I regret the cruelty of tragedy and its disruption of her smooth sail. I pray for her family in this time of grief. Though life goes on, they've been frozen since Sunday. Dear Chinenye, you lived a good life and though our encounters were few, I'm grateful for the everlasting impression you've left with me. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a landlord, Gbade Metibemu, for allegedly stabbing his tenant of four months, Bright Abraham, to death on Apollo Street in the Makoko area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Metibemu attacked the 35-year-old Abia State indigene with a knife for refusing to vacate his plank apartment after a week-long disagreement.

Our correspondent was told that the suspect had warned the victim to stop soiling the slum with the faeces of his baby.



When the warning did not yield any result, the suspect was reported to have threatened to kill Abraham.

Last Thursday, around 10pm, the father of four was preparing to sleep when an argument ensued between him and the landlord which degenerated into a fight.

Metibemu was alleged to have got a knife with which he stabbed Abraham in the chest.

He allegedly rushed to the Adekunle Police Station to report that he had been injured by his tenant.

He was, however, detained when news filtered in that Abraham had died at the hospital where he was taken to for treatment.

A resident, who identified himself as Christian Nwankwo, said Metibemu always fought his tenants.

He said, “Abraham packed into the house four months ago. He was well-behaved and good-mannered and those were attributes that endeared him to us. His room is beside the landlord’s.

“However, about a week ago, the landlord started complaining that he should stop spreading children clothes on the washing line. He also complained about the faeces of his baby, which he said was soiling the house.

“He started threatening him to leave or he would kill him. We thought it was a joke.”

Another resident, Ndubuisi Nkegba, said the victim had excused himself from a chat to go to bed that Thursday when he was stabbed.

“Just about 10 minutes after he left us to go to bed, we heard a noise. We rushed there and saw that he had been stabbed in the chest three times by the landlord. He was in a pool of blood. We rushed him to the Federal Medical Centre, Yaba, where he was confirmed dead.”

The landlord was said to have gone to the Adekunle Police Station with a friend, identified as Femi, to report the incident.

“He told the police that his tenant stabbed him. The police were taking his statement when some friends of the deceased, who were returning from the hospital, met him at the station. They told the police that the tenant was dead. The landlord’s friend, Femi, fled, but the landlord was detained.”

It was learnt that the wife and children of the victim had been taken to their family house.

Our correspondent was told that an angry mob demolished the suspect’s apartment and destroyed some of his property.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspect had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Yaba.
