The supply of electricity to consumers across the country has fallen by 360.88 megawatts in the last one week and the Federal Government has again attributed the development to the vandalism of pipelines that transport gas to power plants. Specifically, the energy sent out to electricity consumers plunged from 3,424.11MW on February 17 to 3,063.23MW on Wednesday, while the average national demand stood at 12,800MW. Within the same period, peak electricity generation fell from 3,768.2MW to 3,224.8MW, while energy generation also dropped from 3,494.96MW to 3,131.8MW. The PUNCH had on Monday reported exclusively that the country was losing over 1,500MW of power despite claims by President Goodluck Jonathan that he had delivered on his promise to supply electric to Nigerians. The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, has often blamed the fall in power supply to continued puncturing of gas pipelines. He had said in Lagos last week, “Power generation in the country today has improved tremendously with actual generation/transmission capacity consistently hovering around 5,000MW, up from 2,800MW in 2011. “Currently, the major challenge to increased power generation is the limitation in gas supply as a result of the activities of vandals who are bent on visiting hardship on the entire nation.” Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, Nebo again said the country could boast of only four days of free flow of gas to the power plants without interruption by vandals. He said, “We have only had four days of free flow of gas without vandalism. That tells you how horrible the situation with vandalism is. Vandalism is affecting our capacity to generate electricity. “We are hoping that in the next two weeks, when the other pipelines that are being repaired and the ones that are being serviced are put in use, we will come back to, and even go beyond where we are.” Asked if securing the pipelines was beyond the abilities of the security agencies, the minister said, “It is not beyond them. When you are talking about thousands of kilometres on one stretch, to police this is not easy. Because when these things were instituted or installed, nobody thought that Nigerians would hate themselves enough to directly vandalise the pipelines. “What we are now trying to do, using the various security agencies, especially the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Navy, Army, Police, and so on, is to make sure that these places are garrisoned. But this will not stop the problem. “The most critical is what Mr. President is trying to do now: deploy resources to digitally survey the pipelines. It is very expensive. But we have to do that. Until that happens, we still have to worry about vandalism.” The minister advocated for embedded generation of power and noted that this would help address the pains of pipeline vandalism. “But if you have embedded power, or embedded generation, it goes back directly to the Discos. Others will generate this power and sell to the Discos, but the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission will have to moderate and make sure that customers are not sub-charged, swindled and don’t have to pay unnecessary charges,” Nebo said. I think this guy, like his clueless boss should just resign. He/ they just not fit for purpose.... |
Its as a direct backlash of cluelessness. The world in general & Nigerians in particular are becoming more averse & irked by that irritating attribute.. Dont blame the haters, blame the hated..... |

SW, keep vpting...... |
We've been inundated with so much noise about how the South West will be the game changer in the forth-coming elections. From permutations and calculations from all over the federation, pointers and feelers make it imperative for the gladiators to shift and focus on the SW as the ultimate battle ground for whoever is going to clinch the presidency. While the Jonathan camp strongly believes that Jonathan will coast to unassailable victory with reasonable bloc votes from this region, Buharists are sure of an overwhelming routing of the PDP in same region. So here we are, a thread for SW voters has come to the wires, lets see how this will play out as a precursor to what to expect. If your a South Westerner and you'll be voting in the SW, click....... LIKE for Buhari SHARE for Jonathan. Pls if you do not fit the criteria, do abstain. God Bless.... *Might as well drop your comments too about the elections.... |

Is oga Ade that fat or you mean fatso Anyim? lol egift: |
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, has said that the Jonathan administration created the opposition movement as a deliberate attempt to deepen democracy in the country. Anyim said this at a Presidential dinner organised by the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) Alumni Association in honour of President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Tuesday. The SGF, who represented the president, said that the Jonathan’s objective in politics was not to remain perpetually in power but to expand the political atmosphere for wider participation. “We created the political opposition movement. The opposition movements owe their existence and activities to President Goodluck Jonathan. “I can assure you that President Goodluck Jonathan has vowed to deliver the dividends of fundamentals of democracy in Nigeria,” he said. According to him, neither the ruling Peoples Democratic Party nor the Jonathan administration is scared about the rising opposition movement. “We are enjoying what is happening. We created it. The enhanced political environment is what the opposition is enjoying. “If they abuse it, do not mind. It does not matter. It does not challenge us,” the former Senate President said. He said that one thing that the transformation agenda of the administration had introduced “is that we not only work for today. We plan and work for the Nigeria of tomorrow”. Anyim said that since 1999, he encountered three presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yaradua, and Jonathan, but added that only the Jonathan administration offered what the people wanted to advance the nation. “Since the beginning of democracy in 1999 I have played an active role. I have encountered three presidents. “My tenure as Senate President was greeted by the struggle to guarantee the independence of democracy. “Under Jonathan, I played a role in the democratisation process of our polity, which is actually the content that democracy brings to what one asks for.” Accordingly, he said that Jonathan had instituted the fundamentals of democracy, adding that what Nigerians often demanded were the “incidentals of democracy” which could only thrive under good foundation. He said Jonathan had etched all fundamental freedoms into the lives of Nigerians although the opposition tried to trivialise them, including heaping undeserving insults on the person of the president. “If you do not have the freedom to speak, the basic idea of achieving the fundamentals will be lacking,” Anyim noted. He said the administration had transformed virtually all spheres of the economy and likened the Jonathan’s feat to an elephant “which from any side you begin to cut, you must have meat”. He said for the nation to consolidate on the gains, the electorate should re-elect Jonathan whom he described as a man of vision. Education Minister Ibrahim Shekarau, who was the chairman of the occasion, said that Jonathan “has been an achiever”. Shekarau said that the administration had provided unfettered access to education and raised the quality tremendously. He said under the administration, no fewer than 130 functional Almajiri schools, 12 brand new universities with nine in the north and new polytechnics had been created in the past four years for even development. The minister said the creation of TETFUND by the administration had raised the quality of infrastructure and training in tertiary institutions to an unimaginable level. He said that with the level of training of academics in the university “the target is that in no distant future all lecturers in the university will have minimum of doctorate degree. Earlier, the President of the UNIPORT Alumni Association, Chief Sampson Ngerebara, said that besides the turnaround in the economy, Jonathan, in spite of attacks had remained humble and worked for peace and security of the nation. “Your administration has a human face. You have created an atmosphere of peace and love for all Nigerians in spite of the Boko Haram insurgency, which you are also winning. “You are an exemplary leader. You are a man of the law. Nigerians cannot afford to change your leadership now,” Ngerebara added. Ngerebara noted that this period was the finest for the association for having its own occupying the highest level of service and pledged that the entire body would assist the administration to succeed. Now people, would you believe this poo? Mr Jonathan, having deep thoughts about springing something like this on himself is quite un/profound. From all his antecedents, he seemed to me like someone who couldn't locate himself inside a toilet. But if he actually did, he must be having very deep regrets right now. Dont you agree? |
Very pathetic as usual in my area. The drunk from the creeks has been lyin his goddamn ass out since they rebranded akpeteshi. |
