Religion / Woman Delivers Horse In Edo Church... by blackwall(m): 1:26pm On Sep 12, 2012
Worshippers of the World Liberation Ministry located along old Sapele-Benin express road on Tuesday took to their heels during a prophesy programme when a female member delivered a horse.

The horse was however dead by the time Journalists visited the church.

It was gathered that the woman whose identity was not yet known started screaming during the prayer session and began to bleed from the vagina before the horse came out.

The General Overseer of the church, Evangelist Silva Wealth, said he was still amazed at what came out of the woman.

He told Journalists that during prayers a revelation came that there was a woman with an issue and that something was blocking her womb.

Silva said as prayers intensified, the woman started screaming and bleeding started when the object came out.

The cleric said he couldn’t confirm whether the horse was dead or alive because he didn’t go near it.

“I can’t describe the object. We have seen people that vomited several things during our service but not this type of thing. God has been blessing our ministry with prophesies and miracles, “he said.

People rushed to the church to catch a glimpse of the horse when news of the delivery filtered into town.

Education / 501 Kano Indigenes Get Overseas Scholarship by blackwall(m): 12:33am On Sep 12, 2012
Kano State Government has awarded scholarship to 501 indigenes of the state to pursue their master programme in overseas universities of their choice, as part of efforts to bridge the education gap between the north and the south.

Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who disclosed this during the distribution of admission letters of the beneficiaries at the Government House weekend, said, the state is currently experiencing a dearth of qualified manpower.

If something urgent is not done, he said the state will continue to depend on other states for its manpower requirement, hence the sponsorship of the first batch of graduates.

He directed the Higher Education Commissioner, Alhaji Umar Doguwa to ensure that only university graduates with first class and second class upper division are qualified for the scholarship, warning that any anomaly discovered would be sanctioned.

According to him, on completion of their various courses, they would take over the leadership of various sectors in the state.
Kwankwaso disclosed that the state government would also sponsor 100 brilliant secondary school students to study medicine, while another batch of 100 will undergo a training course in piloting.

schools and fund education properly. It is not about building more universities, but paying more attention to the sector by bringing it to its pride of place.”

Facilitators at the event each enjoined participants to embrace change and be the best they could be. Mr. Gbenga Sesan, advised the youths to equip themselves with knowledge and information that would make an impact on their lives.

The alumni association of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, has concluded plans to organise the David Oyedepo Day of Service, in honour of the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo for his legacies and contributions to humanity.

President of the association, Mr. Olumuyiwa Fadugba, who disclosed this in a chat with journalists recently, said the event is one of the three major activities put together by the association, as part of activities to celebrate its 10th anniversary in October. He said the event would coincide with Oyedepo’s birthday.

“We know that people have been celebrating Nelson Mandela Day, Martin Luther King Junior Day and others for their contributions to humanity, so we also want to acknowledge our chancellor as one who touched our lives. Oyedepo is someone who has made significant contributions to the education sector and other spheres of human endeavour. For us to show our gratitude for what he has done over the years we have decided to come together and give honour to who honour is due.”

He said all its branches both in the country and abroad have been mandated to work towards executing a major project as their contribution to the development of their respective communities.

Sports / Kano Pillars Win 2012 NPL Title by blackwall(m): 8:43am On Sep 06, 2012
Kano Pillars have won the 2012 Nigeria Premier League after Ocean Boys were expelled from the Nigerian Premier League for falling foul of regulations.

The Bayelsa-based club failed to honour four league fixtures, three of those consecutively.

NPL regulations stipulate expulsion for any club which misses two consecutive matches. This is in addition to having all their previous results expunged.

Following a meeting of the NPL Executive Committee on Wednesday in Abuja, a decision was taken to expel the club.

"Ocean Boys FC stands expelled and its matches played and unplayed cancelled," a statement from the NPL read.

The decision means Kano Pillars cannot be overhauled at the top of the table with one round of matches to play.

Pillars lost once away to Ocean Boys while title rivals Enugu Rangers and Lobi Stars beat them over two legs.

It means with Ocean Boys' results cancelled, Pillars lose 3 points, while Rangers and Lobi lose 6 points.

Three journalists, Colin Udoh of KickOffNigeria, Toyin Ibitoye of Sunrise Sports and Bode Oguntuyi of SportVision Nigeria, had threatened to take the NPL to court if the rules were not applied within 48 hours.

President Goodluck Jonathan will on Monday, launch the second edition of the Youth Enterprise with Innovation (YOUWIN!), a Federal Ministry of Finance innovative business plan competition for talented youth`entrepreneurs. A statement issued by Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Finance, on Sunday, said YOUWIN! 2 would be exclusively for young female entrepreneurs between the ages of 18 and 45.

The statement noted that the first year of the competition, which ended recently produced 1,200 winners from different parts of the country ``following a rigorous and exciting contest.''

During the launch of the National Gender Policy Dialogue organised by the World Bank on May 21 in Abuja, the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, hinted that the second phase of the competition would be dedicated to women.

She attributed this to the fact that out of the total 1,200 winners in the last competition, only 17 per cent were women.

Citing the 2012 World Bank report on Gender Equality and Development, Okonjo-Iweala said ``if empowering women is smart economics, empowering girls is smarter economies.’’

Politics / Man Commits Suicide After Winning N200m Contract From Bayelsa Government by blackwall(m): 9:28pm On Sep 02, 2012
A 34-year-old man, simply identified as Tari, appears to have committed suicide in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital, few hours after he was allegedly awarded a N200 million road contract by the state government.
Tari, who is believed to hail from Trofani in Sagbama Local Government Area, was awarded the Egbedi Road contract in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.
The deceased reportedly swallowed a mixture of insecticide, known as sniper, and liquid bleach at his residence in Civil Servants Estate behind the office of the State Scholarship Board.
Sources close to the family said neighbours found him writhing in pains on Friday and on seeing the substance he took, his mother, a retired civil servant, was immediately contacted.

A source, who visited Trofani on Saturday, said the incident was the subject.
Sources at police headquarters stated that operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department are already probing the incident

Politics / 20 Year Old Girl Narrates How She Lured Kidnapped Politician With Sex by blackwall(m): 8:45pm On Aug 26, 2012
At the headquarters of the Delta State Command of the State Security Services (SSS) in Asaba, she could pass for an innocent lady. But this soft-spoken lady has a way of getting men old enough to be her father, especially randy politicians, to willingly eat poison from her palms. Welcome to the world of 20-year-old Philomena Ogbovoh, arrested with two others for allegedly kidnapping a politician.

A native of Kwale in Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state, she had left her land of birth years ago in search of greener pastures in Ozoro, in Isoko North Local Government Area of the state, where she worked as an auxiliary nurse in a private clinic. As at the time of filing this report, Phil, as she is fondly called, and her boyfriend, Daniel Ubah (24), as well as another accomplice, Kingsley Otuya (25), were cooling their heels behind bars at the SSS head office and would soon face prosecution.

Phil allegedly used her God-given ‘treasure’ to lure a political bigwig (names withheld) of one of the vibrant political parties in the state, into abduction by her boyfriend and his two partners-in-crime, including one Jersey currently at large. The failed kidnap was said to be Jersey’s idea.

It was gathered that Phil and Daniel started their relationship in Kwale where Daniel was a contract security personnel in an oil firm and at different times, the lovebirds left Kwale ostensibly in search of better life.

However, in March, this year, they ran into each other at Ozoro and re-ignited the affair. Their re-union soon spelt doom for the politician who is eyeing an elective position in the state but said to be tight-fisted. Apparently overwhelmed by Phil’s beauty, the politician, who is old enough to be Phil’s father, made amorous advances toward her. Phil said that moved by the irritating pressures from the ‘sugar daddy’, she decided to plunge him into an image crisis through blackmail, an idea she sold to her boyfriend, Daniel.

She said: “I was in my house and the man had been pestering me for sex. I begged him not to do it because he has a wife and a girlfriend whom he told me about. He kept on disturbing me until Daniel came to my house one day and I told him about the harassment.

“I told Daniel that I didn’t want anything to do with the man and I initially planned that he should take photographs of the man, so that I could extort money from him by threatening to expose his sexual escapades.”

Politics / Ibori Moved To Maximum Security Prison With Terrorists And Violent Criminal Outs by blackwall(m): 6:43pm On Aug 17, 2012
James Ibori
By SaharaReporters, New York
SaharaReporters has confirmed that James Ibori, the convicted former governor of Delta State, has been transferred to a maximum-security prison, the Worcestershire Long Lartin Prison outside London.
UK prison officials in the United Kingdom confirmed the transfer to our correspondent, but said they could not tell what informed the move. “Yes, Mr. Ibori is now serving his prison term in the Long Lartin prison in Worcestershire,” said an official of the UK prisons.
The maximum-security prison houses terrorists, rapists, drug barons and other violent criminals. A recent report in The Guardian, a major UK newspaper, portrayed the prison as a rough, lawless facility where gangsters reign supreme.

In April this year, Mr. Ibori was sentenced to 13 years in prison for using UK financial institutions to launder hundreds of millions of pound sterling he stole from public funds in Delta State. The looted funds enabled Mr. Ibori, his family and mistress to live lavish lifestyles that included purchase of private jets, luxurious cars and to own plush homes as well as apartments in some of the swankiest areas in London. Mr. Ibori is expected to serve at least seven years in the UK since he received credit for his detention in the United Arab Emirates as well as the UK prior to his trial.

The US Department of Justice recently restrained assets belonging to the former governor in Texas and Massachusetts. A US attorney told SaharaReporters that the action means that Mr. Ibori is in legal trouble in the US whenever he serves out his prison term in the UK.

One of Mr. Ibori’s lawyers, Bhadresh Gohil, his wife, Theresa Nkoyo, sister, Christine Ibori-Ibie, and mistress, Udoamaka Okoronkwo were all sentenced to prison terms for aiding and abetting the former governor in his money laundering activities.

Meanwhile, several sources in Abuja and Asaba, the Delta State capital, have told SaharaReporters that Mr. Ibori has now perfected plans to reclaim the $15 million with which he tried, but failed, to bribe Nuhu Ribadu, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The Delta State government, led by Ibori’s cousin and money laundering accomplice, Emmanuel Uduaghan, recently stepped forward to claim the $15 million bribe which has been deposited at the Central Bank of Nigeria for several years.

Several sources had told SaharaReporters that Mr. Ibori frowned at the state government’s move, worried that an open admission that he gave the bribe would complicate things for him.
However, Saharareporters further learnt yesterday that the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, who initiated a lawsuit in which the federal government sought to take over the money from the Central Bank, had struck a deal with Delta State Governor to enable Mr. Ibori to ultimately reclaim the money. The deal was communicated to Ibori to calm him down.

Our sources revealed that claims by Mr. Ibori’s associates which will be planted in several Nigerian blogs to the effect that the cash was not intended as a bribe were part of a series of complex schemes to clear the way for Mr. Ibori to reclaim the money.
“Adoke and the Delta State government are now on the same page and working in tandem,” said one source. He added, “Once the state government obtains a court order awarding the cash to Delta, Chief Ibori will get a Delta State high court to rule that the money was not a bribe but Ibori’s contribution for an undisclosed political purpose. The state court will argue that the former governor was never convicted for any crimes in Nigeria, and order the state to return the cash to its rightful owner, Chief Ibori. The state government will quickly comply.”
Another source close to Mr. Adoke told SaharaReporters that the country’s attorney general and Minister for Justice has rubberstamped the deal, after officials of Delta State and associates of Mr. Ibori promised him a cut of the $15 million.
The source added that it was Mr. Adoke who came up with the legal scheme to enable Mr. Ibori to eventually take possession of the seized funds. He reportedly stated that since a Nigerian court presided over by Justice Marcel Awokulehin had dismissed all money laundering and corruption charges against Mr. Ibori, it would be easy for a Delta State court to rule that it was “impossible to accuse Chief Ibori of stealing from Delta State to bribe Ribadu.”
A leader of an activist political group in Delta State told SaharaReporters that his group had heard rumors about the planned deal between Mr. Ibori, the state government and Mr. Adoke. “I can tell you that we are vigilant and will resist any attempt to hand back money Ibori stole to the man to enjoy when he comes out of jail. We plan to take him to court again in Nigeria to explain what he did with our people’s money,” said the source.
