sagebiz: I get your point. That was just my opinion too. Its just that corner stats works almost all the time because of the style of play of different teams. You may check out http://adamchoi.co.uk/?page=corners that's where I get my corner and cards stats from. I've been following corner kicks for a while now. I'm not even touching that Liv vs Manu game sef. I'd rather watch and play live bet because those two teams dey craze at times. Good luck, you and many others have been doing a great job on this thread. |

This is the first time I'd be posting anything on this thread. But I have some games I'd like to share and they are are all Europa league games. 1) Zenith Petersburg vs Torino. Pick: Home win 1.6 (Zenith petersburg is a very good side at home and most teams find it hard to get even a point there. I really don't see Torino getting anything from this match) 2) Wolfsburg vs Intermilan. Pick: Home Win- 1.5. (Wolflsburg is on fire. Forget there weekend loss to Ausburg last weekend. They've been prolific at home since January 2015, Remember what they did to Bayern munich and I don't think intermilan has what it takes to cause an upset here tonight) 3) Fiorentina vs AS Roma. Pick: over 3.5 cards - 1.4 (This game is going to be an high tempo game from start to finish and I can't see nothing less than 5 cards in the game but to be on a safer side, over 3.5 cards is enough) 4) Villarreal vs Sevilla. Pick: over 3.5 cards-1.20 (if this were to be a la liga match, I won't even think twice, I'd pick over 5.5 cards. But hey this is Europe, the referee might go easy on them tonight. The game will be rough though and I think they'd get all 4 cards in the first half.) Total Odds: 4.16 Stake wisely (Medium stake)... Good luck |

shyshally:I totally get your point. I used to write too (a lot) and did some public speaking but I ended up doing Engineering in the university and oh boy, I struggled. I was lucky to have picked up some books, it was at that point in dawned on me that I have chosen the wrong path. I didn't quit Engineering though but I picked up my pen, started writing, attended public speaking classes, it was really hard for me (at that time). But I'm glad I was able to "re-connect". I think you just have to start writing again... Just write anything and don't be afraid to make mistakes. You may check out Maya Angelou's Biography, I'm sure you'd get some sort of inspiration from it. |
Career / What Is Killing Our Creativity by blacnewton(m): 7:45pm On Feb 26, 2015 |
When God created man, he did in his image. And when you take a look at nature and the beautiful things it is made of, you will clearly see (if you don't know already) that the creator is creative and it is only logical to say man has the potential to be creative too. But what is really happening to us? Why do we find it hard to tap into and harness this creativity? Creativity (in my definition) is the act of making something happen, out of nothing. The act of turning crazy ideas into reality.... What is killing this creativity? Did We Outgrow Creativity? We were all born creative. In fact many of us were given pencils and crayons when we were young and we drew and colored our world with them. We were not afraid of what people thought about what we drew. We didn't care whether or not it was "rubbish" to them... We drew anyways. But as we grew, things started changing. We became more scared of what people will say or think about what we do. We became scared that we end up not doing anything.... Or Did Our Parents Have Anything to do with it? I happened to crash into this part of the world when toys were considered luxury for kids and it was only "rich" people that bought toys for their kids. Unfortunately, my parents didn't happen to fall into that category. But interesting, I didn't regret any of that, because as little as I was then, I improvised. I remember creating motor cars with sticks and crowns of soda bottles. I also did some amazing stuffs too that I've forgotten. But I remember my mother beating the hell out of me almost everyday because I was always covered in mud. I think she beat creativity out of me too because in a bid to escape the wrath of my mother, I (as little as I was then) became very conscious of myself. I had stopped playing in the mud with my "motor cars" -and it stopped being fun for me because I was no longer free to play the way I wanted. It even got worse to the point where my friends left me.... For some of us, it didn't end at that, our parents even forced certain career paths on some of us. And I think many of us can relate to these experiences... Or Is it School? In school we were/are being taught to cram, do things in certain ways if we want to get good grades. And if you get an answer wrong, you are punished severely. We become scared to ask the teacher questions because we don't want to be laughed at just the way the teacher laughed at Jide last week when he asked why 1+1=2. The system is too bad that we are just taught what to do without telling us why we need to do them... Too bad that it doesn't give room for mistakes... Or Is it our addiction to respect or religion, is it the devil or the angels, is it the technological advancement... There are so many things killing our creativity and it is good to take these things into consideration, but the most important thing is to reconnect ourselves back to this creativity that has been deposited in us right from the onset. Think like an Adult, Act like a kid... Let people tag you crazy -all ideas were crazy at some point.... Make mistakes. Learn from them. Make better mistakes. Don't be scared of what people will say about your ideas. Just do them any way. Check more articles like this at http://sadiqdaniel..com or follow me on twitter @sadiqspeaks |
Education / How To Dance Like A Nigerian Lecturer by blacnewton(m): 7:35pm On Feb 26, 2015 |
Lecturing in Nigerian universities is pretty easy(once you've gotten the job though), you just have to follow the following rules I listed below (in no particular order). And you must take these rules seriously if you want to succeed as a Lecturer/Professor in the university #1 Speak Gibberish Always: You are the Professor - you went to MIT, Stanford, Chelsea FC, University of Ife... And they are just students. Where have they been anyways? What do they know?... Do not speak in plain English that they will ever understand because if you do, they won't see you as a special person. When the "over sabi" (the inquisitive) students tries to ask you a question, Scream out loud (this is very important) and say something like "How the hell did you get into this university? You must be a fraud".... (it works all the time) #2. Frown Always: Whenever you are in class "teaching" do not ever make any attempt to simper. You must look like the devil because if you don't, your students will not take you seriously. You need to put up a frown always, so they will be scared to death that they would just nod at everything you say and not ask you any question you didn't prepare for. #3. Fail Students At Will: If more than half of the class passes your course, then you are not a great teacher. You must set your "standards" very high that even God might not scale through.... For example: if a student doesn't solve it the way you did in class, fail him/her. Is he trying to be smarter than you are or what? You have bragging rights when you fail enough students. It sounds cool to tell your fellow professors that "ha over 50 students registered for my course and only 5 passed". You never can tell you might be nominated for the position of the Vice-Chancellor if you fail more students. Forget the sarcasm in this article, these happens in our schools especially in our universities. I experienced "all of that" and many went through worse- we all different crazy stories to tell. Although there are few (less than 2%) lecturers that are actually teaching the way they are meant to,But they are completely overshadowed by the bad ones. And it is a pity that the system only recognizes the bad ones and encourages them ahead of those that are really teaching. What do you think is the way out? I love to hear your crazy experiences here too. Check out more of my articles at http://sadiqdaniel..com or follow me on twitter @sadiqspeaks |
Business / What Are You Doing With Your Bathroom Ideas by blacnewton(m): 5:36pm On Feb 10, 2015 |
I spend an average of 30-35minutes in the bathroom every morning... The larger fraction of the time (say 20-30minutes) goes to what I call my "bathroom ideas". Considering the fact that the bathroom is the only place where I can actually be naked and alone, I find it easier to reflect on my life, actions, restructure my goals. And once in a while crazy ideas pops in. Many of us have similar experiences - we all tend to have bathroom ideas (except if you are an alien tho). But what are we doing with these ideas? Are you flushing these ideas... Or do you let them go down the drain? We need to start acting on these ideas. Don't underrate your bathroom. There is no better place to get ideas that will change the world if you ask me. I'm sure if you happen to ask Jeff Bezos or Seth Godin where they got most of their ideas from? They'd tell you it was in the bathroom. Irrespective of where you even get ideas from- restaurants, bathroom, church, school and even in your sleep.... You need to act on them (no matter how crazy they may seem). Do not write off any idea you get instead put it down in writing - that was what I did. I have a small 'pocket-sized' pad I carry anywhere I go because you never can tell where and when the next idea might come. Then I assess all these ideas every week, pick out the best ones (the ones I think will help me create something that matters). At the end of the month, I pick one of my "best" ideas, focus on that one and make something happen with it. Having great ideas doesn't make you special or you unique. And your ideas are useless if you don't put them to work. And there is nothing more painful than seeing someone transform one of bathroom ideas (you probably ignored) into something that matters. You don't need the approval of people before you work one these ideas. In fact ideas that happens to change the world doesn't seem to make any sense at first. Most of the ideas I put to work didn't work, but I did anyways. You should do same too...don't worry about the results, Just Do it! Put your bathroom ideas to work today! PS: I've got so many crazy ideas on start-ups and small business. I really don't want them to die because I can only work on a few at a time. So I'm willing to share these ideas with anyone interested. All you need to do is send me a mail or tweet @sadiqspeaks. Check out more of my articles at http://sadiqdaniel..com 1 Like |
Business / #dearstartuper: The Next Big Thing For Small Biz And Startup Owners by blacnewton(m): 5:11pm On Feb 10, 2015 |
Starting a business especially when you know little about businesses is very difficult - drafting out your business model, looking out for investors/VCs to invest in your business, Building a great team.... E.t.c We could really make do with some advice- advice from experts, from fellow startupers like us who have taken a leap and are already doing what we intend. When I started my first business, I literally didn't know sh*t - everything seemed so complicated. I never knew what business plans meant, I never knew anything about getting investors. I hard to learn (and I'm still learning) certain things the hard way. So I thought it would be could if we (this tribe of startupers) start a project where we can share ideas on how to grow our businesses effectively. What Is This Project? #DearStartuper is a mentoring program that ¡help entrepreneurs/start-up owners to get answers to questions they are likely to face in their business. #DearStartuper will be launched as a twitter live chat that will bring together small business owners across Africa and the world to discuss issues relating to running and growing a business. Every Sunday I will be conducting live interviews with noted Start-up experts, where they'd share there struggles and how they overcame certain challenges in their businesses. The guest types answers to questions using their twitter accounts and other startupers/small biz owners can join into the conversation by using the hashtag #DearStartuper to chime in with answers as well. Goal Of #DearStartuper: The primary goal of this project is to end small business failure by creating a start-up community where startupers can get the resources they need for the growth of their business and still be able to connect and share fresh ideas with like minds. How Do I Become Part Of This Project #1 You need to get a twitter account - I can't emphasize how important this is for your small business. #2 If you think you know few things about start-ups or your experiences and are ready to share them with the community, all you need do is; a) Send your topic to my email, a short bio about yourself and why you think you are qualified to share ideas on this topic. b) You are also required to send in 10 questions and answers in paragraph form to demonstrate your expertise (that's when you have been selected) How Does #DearStartuper Work: You must have a twitter account to participate. And the chat holds every Sunday night 6pm-7pm GMT. Participants follow the chat using the hashtag #DearStartuper. In the last 10 minutes of every chat, all participants are invited to share something about what their business does and what they stand for in a tweet (ending each tweet with the hashtag #DearStartuper). Transcript and Other Crazy Things: There will be a transcript of each chat on this blog on Mondays. And every week (Thursdays) I'd be doing a feature on a startuper where I'd review the start-up, what they stand for and what they are doing to create something that matters- the goal of this is to help new start-ups get early adopters. If you want your start-up to be featured on this blog, send me an email containing the name of your start-up, what you do and stand for, website links, what your USP is. And other information that you think we should know. If You have any suggestions or ideas on how we can do this better kindly shoot me a mail at sadiqdaniel@gmail.com. PS: We'd be launching this project on the first Sunday of March 2015... Tag along. Tell someone about this. Check out more at http://sadiqdaniel..com |
Education / Why We Need To Make More Mistakes by blacnewton(m): 2:06pm On Feb 05, 2015 |
It is a huge shame that the education system we have is interested only in perfectionism - there is no tiny bit of allowance for mistakes. And this is really killing us. I remember vividly during my high school days, you dare not score less than the pass mark (in most cases average of the total scores) if you don't want to be punished. And punishment in the part of world where I'm from involves whipping you on the back or buttocks with cane till you scream out loud to the heavens. (We don't believe in detention or any of those things they do in Hollywood) So we try as much as possible not to 'fail' we cheat, pray, cram just to make the pass mark. And even outside school, our parents don't make things easier- instead of asking what went wrong and look for ways to fix them, they condemn and compare you with those that actually made the pass mark (and you'd be very lucky if that's the only thing they did). It doesn't stop at that, it goes on and on till you graduate from college and even start working in a firm or on your own start-up. This "mentality" of perfectionism and not giving room for mistakes is eating up our creativity. We really need to re-orientate our inner minds that it is ok to make mistakes. Perfectionism prevents us from moving out of our comfort zone and taking risks. It makes us feel as if we're falling short and therefore we never feel satisfied. And that's what is making the life of some miserable today. As a young boy in his mid 20's I'm happy to admit I have made terrible mistakes and even ready to make better ones. I've created 3 start-ups that all crashed. That doesn't make a failure - mistakes doesn't make one a failure no matter how big they may seem. And didn't stop me from taking more risks- even bigger ones. In fact I'm currently working on two start-ups right now. We should make perfectionism our goal. Put resilience in its stead- the ability to make mistakes, learn from them and become a better person. The only way light can get through a wall is when there is a crack. Do not be scared of trying out new things. The only way you can make something happen is by being willing to take risks and taking risks means you are ready for mistakes. It is very okay to make mistakes; learn from them when you make them and make better mistakes because that is the only way we can progress and move forward. PS: Teachers should encourage mistakes (at least that is what school is meant for- to be better) in kids instead of punishing them. This will encourage/challenge them to try out new tasks and ask questions without feeling/appearing dumb. Kindly check out more of my articles at http://sadiqdaniel..com |

Most definately. But those were the foundations laid for us while we grew and I think they stuck too. And it has also eaten deep into our minds that it f**ks us up. We respect the govt so much that we can't challenge them when they mis-appropriate funds. We respect Policemen so much that we offer them bribe when we did nothing wrong. We respect our lectures so much that we can't call for our scripts when they fail us even when we are so sure we aced the exams.... and so on. |
Culture / 10 Rules Every Nigerian Must Take Seriously When It Comes To Respect by blacnewton(m): 4:12pm On Sep 01, 2014 |
Check out this post about our dangerous addiction to respect .... I just couldn't stop LMAO...True talk though. ************************************************************** So while I was just discussing with my friends on how we (Nigerians) take culture and tradition too seriously in Nigeria and how respect is killing us. I came up with these crazy rules we have been brainwashed with. They may look impossible but trust me when I say it is the real thing. I call them the 10 rules every Nigerian must take seriously when it comes to respect. #1 You Must Lie Flat on Your Stomach When You Are Greeting an Elder: This is peculiar to a particular tribe in Nigeria. You can’t just say “Hi”, or “good morning”. You must prostrate. If you don’t prostrate, the gods will be so pissed that they may strike you dead. I’m sure you don’t want that to happen, do you? #2 Do not ever call an elderly person by name: An elder in this case doesn’t necessarily have to be 20 yrs older than you are. Even if it is just by 2 days, he/ she are an elder. It is therefore a taboo to call them by name because you were not there during their naming ceremony. If you do so, you will not have children on your own. #3 You Must put a title before their names: If the “elder” is not old enough to be your parent, you may put the title brother/ sister before his/her name. And it doesn’t matter if you are family or not. After all we are one. #4 You must refer to them as Daddy or mummy if they are old enough to be your parents: It is a crime to call these set of elders, Mr. or Mrs. You must call them mummy and daddy (and it doesn’t add up if you are related or not). Your pastors are not left out too… if you want to make it to heaven. #5 Nod your head and say yes…. All the time: Our elders are always right and they always have a story to back shit up. After all “you can never have as many rags as an elder” so when they tell you something, no matter how shitty, just nod your head in agreement and say “Yes Daddy/Mummy #6 Do Not Talk Back Even When they ask you a question: This one is crucial, just assume all questions asked by your parents or an elder is rhetorical. Do not talk back. What is it that you want to tell them that they don’t already know? They are wiser than you are. Is it because you have a twitter account or a facebook account or because you are now on BBM? Ehn? #7 Do not look into their eyes… never: When an elder is talking to you, you must keep your head low. If you are confused just stare at your feet and imagine how beautiful they are. You must never look up especially into their eyes. You might go blind if you do. #SeriousTalk #8 Do not eat on the same table with an elder: so you must always chill until an elder have finished eating before you eat on the dining table. And if you are that hungry, you may sit on the floor to eat or eat in the bathroom…. Anywhere else except that same table. You have been warned. #9 When two elders are talking, do not interrupt… never ever: When you see two elders talking shit, do not interrupt. What you want to say can wait except maybe the house is on fire… no! Wait a minute that can also wait- it can never be as important as what they are talking about. #10 These rules must be taken seriously if….: You want to live long, or you want your kids to respect you. These rules must be taken seriously if you want to make it to heaven. These were the things most of us faced while growing up when it comes to showing respect. And it is arguably one of the reasons why the system is f**ked. Original Link to this post: http://sadiqdaniel..de/2014/08/10-rules-every-nigerian-must-take.html?m=1 via @sadiqspeaks on twitter. |
