But mind you to apply in any country other than your country of national you would require a resident permit for that country in which you wish to apply.
This is not necessarily true. My mom was on a visitor's visa to US. She applied to come visit me in canny, processing was like 2 weeks and she got it.

Blackbuddy:
Hi, to clarify the relevant info in the link provided to you above, please note that if you move to Ontario directly from another province like Alberta and apply for coverage, your health coverage will begin on the first day of the third month after establishing residence in Ontario, provided you were insured in your previous province or territory. Since you already have your Alberta health card, you will be eligible for coverage in Ontario exactly after two months after registering here. Please ensure you visit any Service Ontario location to register your presence in Ontario and start the count down. You will also get answers to any more health insurance questions you might have there.

Your valid health card from your former province will continue to provide you with health insurance coverage in accordance with that province/territory's plan during the waiting period
.
Thank you very much for the last bit especially. Now I can focus on other aspects of the move smiley

@ AzeD1 , salford1, blackbuddy, thecongo and all ancestors smiley

Please I need clarity.

I have an Alberta health card obtained when we did a short landing in calgary in early 2016. Later that same year, I went back alone and had a baby. I returned to naija early 2017 and now we plan to return to Canada late 2018 but are seriously considering staying in OTTAWA.

QUESTIONS:
1. Can I switch my Alberta health card for the ontario healthcard and instantly get coverage?
2. Does it matter that I would have been out of calgary for over a year before moving to Ottawa?

Any info is highly appreciated.
Merci beaucoup!
Phew..... 225 pages conquered!!!. Thanks to everyone for sharing and being helpful. Seniors in the house, I have some questions, please bear with me and help in answering them.

1. From my research, I gathered that foreign trained lawyers can apply for exemption from articling in Ontario. Please has any one successfully done this or know someone who has? The thought of paying for and writing NCA exams and then searching for article placements is freaking me out. The possibility of exemption is one of the reasons am drawn towards Ontario

Yeah I've heard this too from a friend of a friend who is a lawyer. As long as the person has work experience from naija, the articling part can be waived.

I'm pretty sure that can get 3 bed with 1700 in Ottawa as for customer service Jobs, you will get that. There's a particular customer service firm I heard employs lots of Nigerians. I can't remember the name right now.
Thank you! Please let me know whenever you remember the name. Cheers!

@ AZeD1 and all Ottawarians cheesy

Biko help a sister. I've been reading up a lot on Ottawa, initially I was thinking Mississauga but can't seem to find a good 3bed Townhouse with a budget of $1700 (had to revise my initial budget) so now I'm thinking Ottawa.

In your opinion, please what is the job outlook for a non French speaking somebody like me with kids looking to work in customer service(for a start cuz of experience) and ultimately HR? I've heard it's still possible to get jobs. Also heard most customer facing roles require a sister to be bilingual.

Thanks in advance smiley

So interested in the answer to this question. I've seen that renting in Brampton is a bit cheaper and I've been playing with the idea
On a different note, RBC has a program that assists new immigrants getting their first mortgage.
You have be living in Canada for less than 2 years to qualify for this program.

Thanks this is worth looking into! Just wanted to get a feel of the place first before committing to purchasing a home. And I think I'm suffering from info overload already so might just get there and stay in a vacation rental first.. Or not smiley

What do you consider really high?
Hi TheCongo2! Anything above $2000 is high I think. I've read the cost of houses is not too different from Calgary and in Calgary I can get those specs for less than $2k.

@ Blackbuddy

Hi Blackbuddy! I'm recently considering settling in the GTA specifically Mississauga (I think) but the cost of renting a 3bed house/apartment with a basement/a fenced yard is really high. What is the average price for such please? Also which areas are family friendly with good elementary schools?

Hello @Blessedluvdfavd , pls do u tink this is possible for a sibbling, my parents are late (filled during EE application) and i may be needing this kind of help for my delivery by God's grace. Just thinking if i my elder sis can apply using same situation.
@vcole, kindly advice too.
Thank you
Hi superdoll, I'm no expert but I believe you can. Mostly they understand the need for family when having a baby. You will need to attach supporting documents -death certs (sorry for your loss btw) proof of relationship between you and your sister, proof of your pregnancy, financial capability either from you or your sis etc. The first time my mom visited Canada she was invited by my sister's (she doesnt live in Canada) friend (no relation at all) and she got it although she applied from the US. On the flip side, a friend (PR) in Canada invited both her mom and single working sister to help out with her baby as she was pregnant but only the mom was given. To summarise, in my opinion go for it but arm yourself with every possible relevant document to support your case. All the best!

Hi, please can you tell me what documents you used to process her visa. I assume you were not working when you applied. Travelling with my triplets soon and want to apply for visa for my mom shortly after landing.. Thanks
Sure but memory's a bit foggy. All details are on the cic website though, that's where I got all the info from. For the invitation letter I did a Google Search and got a pretty good sample I worked with.

1. Letter of invitation from me stating why I wanted her to visit and that hubby will be financially responsible for all her expenses. (you're right I was not in gainful employment back then)
2. Hubby's bank statements as POF
3. Mom's bio page (passport) and mine and I think hubby's.
4. Copy of letter from clinic stating the gestational age of pregnancy (I think)
5. I think there was something about proof of relationship so I included my birth certificate (not so sure of this)
6. I think hubby did a letter of financial responsibility too.

Sorry that's all I can remember. Cheers!

Hello my e-fam and our seniors. Pls would you advise an unlanded immigrant to apply for visitors visa for a parent. What are the chances of being granted. Especially if the immigrants are expecting a baby.

Advise needed urgently.
That depends: Is there a close relative in Canada that can invite your mom? I was in a slightly similar situation some time ago but in my case we had landed earlier that year already and returned to naija, God blessed us with another pregnancy and I needed to go with mom but I couldn't invite her cuz records may show I'm currently not in Canada. So in my case, mom and I left naija on the same day but she headed to Houston. Soon as I got to Canada we processed her Canadian visa from Houston and she got it in about 2weeks.
I seem to be having challenges with Airbnb too.

I plan to book 2 weeks (14 days) and I used the filter to narrow the search to suit our budget, but it would

Don't let that get to you just keep searching till you get what you need. First time in calgary I had trouble getting a booking cuz
1. It was too close to my intended stay
2. I wanted to book 2 weeks but most places are booked for a couple of days within my 2weeks and they are not going to throw out that reservation to accommodate me.
3. Some humans beings are very narrow minded and require a 'jump and pass' approach.

Second time in calgary was a breeze, had to choose between 2 hosts, an Asian and a nigerian doctor, went with the Nigerian and had an amazing time. All the best in your search!
Only flown emirates, great customer service, looooooonng but comfy flight. Flight was not full from dubai to Houston so space to snooze. Layover on the outward leg was not fun cuz getting thru passport control then to the hotel took a lot of time, by the time we made it to the hotel we had only about 3-4hrs before departure. Booked the airport hotel on the return leg and the layover was awesome, no passport control, lots of time to enjoy the room and the airport shops and a short walk to the departure area. As per customer service, met a nasty African American lady supervisor in Houston who made me pay extra for luggage inspite of an email confirming the right amount I tried to show her, made the payment, contacted customer service when I was back in naija and after a couple of emails got my money back. Okay I'm done! All the best!

The whole booking process wasn't hassle free mostly because I changed my mind at the last minute but you were there literally 24/7 working with me to resolve the issue I single handedly manufactured. Will definitely use this agency for any future booking. God bless!
