Ondo State voters will head to the polls tomorrow, Saturday, November 16, 2024, to elect a new governor, in an off-cycle election.

This is coming 11 months after the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who died after a prolonged battle with leukemia and prostate cancer.

The election which is to hold in 3,933 polling units across the 18 local government areas of the state, as stated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) features 17 political parties and 18 governorship candidates.

INEC also revealed the total number of registered voters to be 2,053,061, while the just 64,273 voters are in possession of their Permanent Voters CarD (PVC), out of the 89,777 cards delivered to the state. Here's all you need to know:

The latest blackout occurred today, November 7 at 11:29 AM, just two days after a previous grid collapse.

With the United States of America presidential election set for November 5, interest is growing in how the election process works, as the race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris remains tight.

A domestic dispute turned tragic on Wednesday night in the Gbeyi area of Adegbayi, Ibadan, as 33-year-old Comfort Olalere Tinubu allegedly stabbed her husband, 39-year-old Olusegun Tinubu, to death. The incident which reportedly occurred around 10 p.m., left neighbours in shock.

The couple, who had been married for three years and have two children, allegedly began arguing after Olusegun accused Comfort of locking him out of their bedroom. According to a family source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, the argument escalated when Olusegun confronted Comfort over her absence from the home between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. that day.

The source explained that the situation intensified when Olusegun allegedly slapped Comfort as she lay breastfeeding their baby. A relative living with the couple reportedly intervened, separating them and advising Olusegun to sleep in the living room. Later, however, Comfort allegedly approached her husband in the living room and stabbed him in the back. Olusegun was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

On August 19, 2024, the Nigerian Police issued an invitation to Joe Ajaero, requesting him to appear at their headquarters the following day. The interrogation, which took place at the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) office, was attended by human rights activists including Femi Falana, SAN, Maxwell Opara, and Deji Adeyanju, alongside the leader of the IRT, DCP Sanusi Mohammed. Also present were operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

The UK government has expanded its list of licensed companies that can sponsor skilled workers, including Nigerians, for relocation.

The latest update, as of August 23, 2024, now includes 119,195 approved companies, up by 5,276 from May 2024.

These companies, spanning various industries such as technology, engineering, media, and education, have the authority to bring in foreign workers to fill vacant positions. The UK’s Skilled Worker visa allows individuals to come to or stay in the UK for eligible jobs with these approved employers, who are recognized as sponsors.
