Lionel Messi, the Argentine ace player, who scored the opening goal against Nigeria in the last group D match of the FIFA World Cup in Russia has referred to the encounter as ‘a difficult one’.
Speaking at the post-match conference shortly after his team beat Nigeria 2-1 at St. Petersburg Stadium on Tuesday, Messi who agreed that the match was balanced praised the Eagles for their gallant and revealed that they had to used pressure as time was running faster.

“It was a very balanced game, we were able to control the first half, we had more possession, they tried to create chances around after the first goal.

“We thought the second half would be similar but they scored a penalty and that made things more difficult, we got nervous, we had pressure as time goes faster,’’ he said.

Messi, who became the third Argentine player to score in three World Cups, following Diego Maradona and Gabriel Batistuta accepted that his side had to battle hard against Nigeria.

He, however, said that they were aware of the threat posed by France their next opponent, saying: ‘‘We know France is a good side and we will find a solution to their antics,’’ he said.

The lifeless body of a pastor, Friday Isinwa, of Seven Days Church of God has been found near a pipeline after a two-day search by villagers in Umuhuo, Ikwerrede-Awara community, Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State

Sources in the community revealed that the late Isinwa, a father of four, who was equally a farmer, had gone to one of his farms to harvest cassava when he was waylaid by suspected cult members, who murdered him after striping him naked.

After his remains were found on Monday, a large number of youths and some aged women in the community reportedly staged a protest against the killing.
ondent gathered that there had been a supremacy battle in the community between members of the Iceland and Deygbam confraternities.

While many lives had been lost to the clashes, properties were reportedly set ablaze.

An indigene of the community, who identified himself simply as Kingsley, said, “Pastor Isinwa went to one of his farmlands on Saturday to harvest cassava and did not come back.”

He added that his family members alerted other villagers that he was missing and a search party was organised on Saturday and Sunday.

The party was said to have found his lifeless body near a pipeline in the community on Monday.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Andrew Enwerem, could not be reached for comment as of press time.

The Federal High Court, sitting in Benin City, Edo State, today Wednesday June 13 , 2018 convicted Uke Philip Akhator for offences bordering on obtaining by fraudulent trick. .

Akhator who was prosecuted by the Benin Office of the EFCC, was said to have obtained the sum of N150,000 from one Jakub Sani Mohammed by fraudulent tricks.

Upon his arraignment on a one count charge, Akhator pleaded guilty to the offence. In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, Larry Aso Peters, urged the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.

In his response, defence counsel, Padro Egharevba pleaded with the court to tamper justice with mercies as the defendant was a first time offender who has become remorseful since he was arrested and has also promised to desist from such despicable act.


Justice P. I Ajoku of after listening to both counsels sentenced the defendant to one month imprisonment.
