Religion / Re: Chris Oyakhilome’s Theory Of Alcoholism And Smoking by bluepro: 1:54pm On Jun 01, 2012
In not holding brief for anyone, l like to ask this question: if Pastor Chris said that smoking is not a sin and u don't smoke, will u then start smoking? If he said that drinking alcohol is not a sin, will u then start drinking if don't? Let's be very clear on what he said, he was expessly asked if self service is a sin and he answered no, but did not say it is right. There was a follow up to this issue as a result of the reaction it created, which nobody have mentioned. If we go by the bible, cigarette smoking was not mentioned and cannot be called a Sin, but does it make smoking right? No! Is it okay to eat food? Yes. Can eating of food becoming a sin? Yes (when one turns to a glutton).

There are certain things that cannot be openly said about God and the bible, in order not to mislead pple, but can be said to those that have received salvation, because they now inderstand and will not go back and start doing that which they weren't doing simply because they now understand better. Can a Pastor drink beer? Yes! Can/shd he drink beer publicly? No! Not because he is pretending, but because the unsaved won't understand.

Pastor Chris' messeage on self-service, alcoholism, smoking etc are primarily directed to his members who understand/shd understand and knw how to tackle such questions when faced by them outside. It wasn't a green card to go and practice them. Jesus was asked if it was right to pay tax, He was able to answer with wisdom because he was a Man of knowlege. That said, l believe everyone's purpose shd be to knw God personally and He will guide u on what is good or bad. He will dwell in u. Thanks.

TV/Movies / Re: What The Hell Is Going On In This Ad? by bluepro: 3:27pm On May 29, 2012
The ad is brilliant in my oipnion. One major factor of any ad is it's target audience. The target audience for the Chris Aire Ad is the very educated, rich and intelligent. Fewer words are required. They are made to partake in the ad by way of intelligent thinking (participant's observation).

Aside the above, it appeals to the vainess of the rich. The mere fact that everyone doesn't catch it, means only those of class wld buy it. It's just product positioning.

Same goes for that of Heineken Champions league ads. They employed 'economy of words'. Remember the beer is refered to as the 'CHAIRMAN', far above it's contemporaries. Look deeply, u'd get the catch of the ads.

@Bluepro
While it has not been established so far the exact advertising services of your company, i am sure there would be multimedia requirements in the mix.
I own a multimedia production company, and we recently launched a branch out in Nigeria (Ikeja, Lagos)
I think we could reach a different kind of mutually beneficial partnership.
email ads@ceevisionz.com if it sounds like a plan to you.

I am into Above and Below the line form of advertising. I'd get back to you through the email you've provided and we'd see what it holds. Thanks.

omotola1: @OP, i think u are getting it wrong. Details should precede interest. How can one show interest when we do not even know what your mode of operation is yet?

I appreciate the comments thus far. I was only hoping that it wouldn't be an all-comers thing, that whoever shows interest would at least have a fair knowledge of what the advertising industry is all about. Statistics from APCON (Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria) 5 years ago showed that the sum of 38billion was spent by advertisers that year alone. And it's growing.

I am a registered APCON practitioner with over 13 years cognate experience in the industry. Like l mentioned earlier, the agency is registered and functional. The reason why l mentioned that money is not being sought is because it is not and l would not want this to appear as a scam. What is required as a partner would be what you are willing and able to bring to the table by way of contacts etc. Like l mentioned the experience and expertise l have got, l am only seeking a partner/s that can bring something else e.g ideas/contacts and whatever other that would be considered by the parties and see how it would work.

Thank you.

publisher: In 2009,while still working in a private financial institution,i launched my own magazine. Invested over N2m on the project, hired some old classmates to run it for me...well as expected, they ran it aground. I even lost my rented office space ,cos the landlady went psychotic on rents.
After i resigned from paid employment early 2010,i moved into my media bizness full time. I'm a trained brand innovator and copywriter. I sacked ALL my staff(5 of em) retaining only my PA. We are into advertising; creation/production of tv commercials, radio jingles and newspaper ads. It's a terrible industry cos most big Nigerian companies already have established ad agencies, others prefer to use foreign South African ad agencies. When they give independents like us an opportunity to pitch an ad,they complain that our idea is good but too expensive. But when a white South African team presents a silly ad pitch,to be shot in Cape town, ten times more expensive than ours, the big Nigerian companies jump at it. Thats why most so called quality tv ads aired in nigeria are shot in South Africa or Kenya, they use mainly zimbabwean cast cos their accent is similar to ours. They go a step further to teach them pidgin and clothe them with Nigerian attires just to create a Nigerian setting. Ref: Airtel 'IK' 10/10, Golden Penny, Etisalat, Indomine(mama too good),Blueband, Cowbell and so on.
Luckily,i've landed a decent ad deal with an upcoming food seasoning company,to be honest i only got the break cos the chairman of the coy is my 'towns man'. Positive tribalism i guess!
I love advertising, especially tv ads,i watch many foreign tv stations just to see their ads. But unfortunately 90 percent of tv ads aired on Nigerian tv can be very irritating, the 'descent' ones are SA productions.
I'ld like to change that and make Nigerian tv ads more Nigerian, more creative and more entertaining.
Advertising is a passion driven creative industry,it's also very frustrating for independent agencies like mine and u could go months, even years without a single client. But ONE serious client can change ur life forever, especially if ur Ads affects ur clients turnover positively.
Well,that's my story. Nice thread.

Hello Publisher,l read your post which l find very interesting. I am hoping we could link up somehow and see what we could do together. I am an ideas person and have been into advertising now for about 13 years and presenting doing my own thing like you. Am an Art director, which you are a copy person. Can l contact you outside on any email address? Do respond. Thanks.
TV/Movies / Re: Top 10 Nigeria TV Adverts For July 2011 by bluepro: 2:43pm On Aug 02, 2011
As an advertising practitioner, I still disagree wt the nomination of the Indomie 'Mama U do good' advert. One, l am shocked that lndomie approved that advert. lt is targeted at children and the use of pidgin English at thier age, to me, l feel shd not be encouraged. Secondly, the setting and outlook of the children used in the advert does not truly show children that have adopted pidgin englisg as their ligua franca at home.

If the advert was done in real english and then translated to pidgin for a particular target audience, it then would have made more sense.

For these reasons l feel it should not make a Top 10.
