How did Atiku backstab Wike?

The whole talk of power must come South didn't come up in the buildup to the primaries when Wike assumed he was sure of winning. In fact, Wike confident he was on his way to winning, said openly that he'd support whoever else won for the parties interest, only for Tambuwal to mess up his calculations last minute by telling his delegates to vote Atiku, thereby taking Atiku over the finish line just slightly.

Wike didn't remember Southern presidency when he was lobbying to be vice to Atiku , was until it became clear Atiku didn't want him as vice that he remembered that Southern presidency was important.

Wike had many reasons to feel entitled to presidency in the party, since he had been the one carrying the party through some of it's toughest periods, but I don't see how Atiku winning the party primaries was him betraying Wike. People have in time past sponsored the PDP and APC financially and they didn't demand presidency on a platter for that.

And as regards Peter Obi, I don't think it was Atiku insisting on running that pushed him out...not at all, this was someone he ran with only 4 years ago, so what's wrong in giving it another go?

What pushed Peter Obi out was the governors insisting that vice must come from among one of them in order for Atiku to get their support, effectively making it impossible for Atiku to run with Peter Obi. Peter Obi seeing he wasn't going to be running with Atiku, and imagine nobody else was coming to him on plans for the party going forward, decided to tea his popularity outside the PDP.

The combination of Obi leaving the PDP, and the G5 was too much for the Atiku candidacy, and that's why he lost. He'd have had a fairly comfortable victory of either of those two things weren't playing out same time.

If anybody is a betrayal Its actually Tambuwal, he betrayed his southern friend at the dying minutes for his northern big brother.

Atiku's arrogance made him not choose Wike as vice so as to pacify him . If Atiku was more humble, he would've adopted Wike as his vice since he ticks the box of the PDP governors' request.

Looking back sha, I'm glad Atiku-Wike ticket didn't come to fruition cos both of them na very dangerous combo; see the kind stunts Wike pulled for APC in Rivers state. Imagine if he was now on the ballot, shey he no go turn the whole South south to war zone?

No dey disturb urself on top matters like this; Kwara state is like quarter-to-sharia. It's a predominantly Muslim state that is very very close to adopting Sharia system like other northern states. There's no way FG will meddle in the affairs of the state and the state governor is a Muslim who tilts more towards the majority Muslims than the minority traditional and Christianity religions.

Those Isese(traditional worshippers) are only but experiencing a tiny bit of what some northern Christians endure in the majority Muslim states like Kano, Kebbi, Niger, etc.

My understanding which may be wrong is that Obj was focused on chasing debt relief and fdi and so he spent most of his first term out of Nigeria,leaving Atiku in charge. And Atiku then focused on undercutting Obj. The end result of all of this was Atiku and his most visible supporters being dealt with to send a message.

I have always said that if Atiku had not been so overambitious, he would have been president easily. What was coming to him with no effort, he has now spent the rest of his life chasing after to no avail.

It depends on what is written on the LPO . If the LPO says the vendor will get payment within 3 weeks of signing the LPO, he will wait for at least 2 weeks before starting to disturb his contact in the bank. By then the staff may have processed payment into wrong account, the POS operator move the funds and the bank starts investigating what went wrong.

I'm not saying this is what happened, but this can happen . Don't rule it out and think the bank is selling a story that never happened .

Most people who do business have long regularize their accounts to receive huge sums. My savings account for example I've long extended the limit ; how much more someone doing POS business ?

You are only looking at things from a rigid and restrictive point of view. Ask people who work in procurement departments of big companies, banks and multinationals. When they give out contracts to vendors and they expect them to deliver within a certain period of time, it's not impossible for the vendor to be waiting hoping to receive the payment and it takes too long before he calls the bank. It's after such calls that the negligence of the staff that processed the payment will be disbursed. That is enough time for the POS operator to have started spending his largesse and move the funds elsewhere.

I'm not exonerating the staff who made such grave error, but I'm only telling it is possible for such things to happen . The same we can individually send money to a wrong account is the same way a banker can pay a wrong account and not know until the destined recipient complains of not getting the funds as expected.

I think u got a picture about the whole thing in ur head that does not really align with what was narrated in the news article.

Firstly the N280m was not transferred to his account in one transaction, but in different tranches; it is the total sum at the end of the day that amounted to N280m. I don't think there's any restriction on the amount you can hold in ur savings account at any point in time; the restriction is on how much u can receive or transfer at once.

If the transfer was made from the bank's account, I don't think the bank will receive debit alert like when u transfer money from ur own bank account . My guess is most likely the bank wants to pay a vendor (Like let's say the bank wants to deploy a new IT infrastructure which costs N280m) and the vendor provided his account which whoever processed the debit mixed up and paid someone else(The POS operator). Just the last digit of an account number can mess one up when one does not take due diligence


Somehow the bank will assume they have paid the vendor and will be expecting him to deliver until he doesn't and they find out he didn't receive the funds. It is only normal for the whole transaction to be audited and then the error is detected after POS operator don begin spend money or even move the money in tranches. The lapse of time would've made the placing of lien a futile effort cos alaye go don move funds.

Perhaps when the case reach court , we will get the full gist.....But u should have an open mind that the whole thing might be a serious negligence/innocent mistake on the part of the staff whom I believe must either be in EFCC net by now or already relieved of his job for gross negligence.

The said lady is probably a resident of Lagos whose parents most likely have been paying tax to LIRS by virtue of their residency and working in Lagos . Yes government draws taxes from everybody irrespective of their political leanings/ideology to run the state ; In fact over 60% of Lagos humongous IGR is from the tax residents of Lagos pay . Do we now say because the lady does not agree with the political ideologies/leanings of the governor(a public servant elected to serve all the people irrespective of what they believe in) , she is not qualified to work in a government agency ?

I didn’t really follow the news and don’t know how damning some of her previous posts on Sanwoolu or Tinubu are , but I don’t think there’s any law/rule/clause in her employment contract that says her employment can be terminated if she’s found to have criticized the governor and his principal in the past.

If she has flouted any civil service rule/code of conduct, then by all means let them bring it to the fore and have her face whatever disciplinary actions necessary . But I do not think it wise to show her the exit door simply cos she has a different political leaning with her employers who themselves are public servants whom we elected to serve us. No governor or ex-governor runs a state with his or her own money , it is the money drawn from the tax paying public they use . LIRS sent mails out immediately after the governorship election reminding tax payers to not forget to file their taxes before the due date of March 31st as usual. They didn’t discriminate in sending that mail nor did they say they won’t be accepting tax from those who didn’t vote for the governor’s reelection

Sacking her after investing public funds to make her a qualified train driver is just another waste of public funds .

All these politics of bitterness which our parents lived through(and we are about reliving ) is one of the major reasons why Nigeria is still a crawling baby at age 63.

PRESS STATEMENT

PERSONS AND BUSINESSES THAT REJECT OLD NAIRA NOTES WILL BE APPREHENDED AND PROSECUTED

1. We congratulate Nigerians on the historic ruling of the Supreme Court, the highest court in Nigeria, to the effect that both the old and new naira notes remain legal tenders until December 31 , 2023 when the old notes will cease to be legal tender. What this means is that both the old and new naira notes can be accepted for the purpose of transacting business till the end of this year.

2. The reason the Kogi State Government joined other State Governments in the country to pursue the case was to ease the hardship occasioned by the unavailability of the new naira notes, which the court fully granted.

3. It is therefore unacceptable that some persons and businesses will continue to reject the use of the old naira notes, even after the court judgement validating their use. Rejecting the old naira notes is a clear disobedience of the Supreme Court ruling.

4. Anyone who rejects the old naira notes should be reported to security and government authorities for immediate action. Also, banks that refuse to accept old naira deposits shall be sealed as the State Government will not accommodate financial institutions that willfully disobey court orders, moreso, the orders of the highest court in Nigeria.

5. Kogites should note that since the banks are issuing the old naira notes, they are bound to also receive it. We cannot continue to kill our economy after the Supreme Court has granted us freedom. The State Government has therefore set up a high-powered Committee to ensure full adherence and compliance to the ruling of the Supreme Court.

6. Members of the Committee are the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning; Commissioner for Information and Communications; Commissioner for Commerce and Industry; the State Security Adviser and the Managing Director, Kogi Enterprise Development Agency. The Committee is to ensure that our people take full benefits of the Supreme Court ruling on the old naira notes and ease the hardship they have been subjected to by the policy that brought so much hardship to the people.

This will not change anything until banks start accepting old notes without conditions . It was reported yesterday that some banks issue out the old notes but don’t accppt it without u going through the CBN portal and filling the online form .

I think the only thing that will put an end to all this is Buhari himself addressing the issue . That is the only time people will start accepting the old notes on the streets . As for the banks, without any communique from CBN, they won’t do anything different from what they are doing. If governors want to clamp down on banks , the banks will just be on lockdown till the whole imbroglio will be sorted out . Force won’t work .
