Do you guys just skip the first thread on this board (stickied to the very top) when creating these kinds of thread? Just read through this thread and you'll be up and running in no time |
davidsmith8900: I just did. An App Challenge for ways in which technology can help our society. You are not leading that way. You are only talking the talk and not walking the walk |
davidsmith8900: Like you said. "THESE GUYS DIDN'T DO THE THINGS FOR THE MONEY", that's because they already HAD IT. WE DONT. So we can't think like them. We must have passion and greed.Passion and greed ke? you are very funny. ![]() Okay, lead the way and we'll follow. What I mean is that instead of talking about it all of the time, why not start something and then we'll all join in? |
davidsmith8900: Yeah but Zuckerberg, Gates, Jobs, Sergey & Larry have 3 things in common, which you, I and many on Nairaland don't.One thing you keep missing. These guys didn't do the things they did for the money, they had real passion for it. Money just happened to come their way and I'm pretty sure that if the money didn't come, they would have continued plugging away because they have love for their craft. no come here dey corrupt our minds with money. |
@dharkpoet, let's not put too much pressure on ourselves. How many of those challenges can you comfortably tackle? we should start with something basic that will enable us to make full use of code that we have understood perfectly not the ones that will make us visit google every 2 seconds. As we progress and our understanding becomes better, then we can increase the difficulty to match our skillset |
dhtml: Jeez, spamming my threads is one way to frustrate my efforts, ![]() |
davidsmith8900: Personally, I think we need the money b4 we pay a whole alot of time to start understanding code. We can copy and paste for a while and then we go back to see what it is about. When Google started, they didnt really know how to program well, but they got better as time went by. Facebook got better as well. I think we should get the money 1st and then focus on understanding code. You're kidding right? |
GodMode: To create a study group means u have considerable amount of knowledge in javascript. So I guess u already know the answers to your questionStudy Group: a group of people who meet to study a particular subject. The keyword there is "study" and study means to pursue knowledge |
GodMode: I thought u created a javascript study groupYes, to connect with like minds. How does that prevent me from commenting on this thread? |
davidsmith8900: Not 2 spam or repeat myself in this post ~> https://www.nairaland.com/1793070/programming-challenge-beginners-n20000/4#24706681 .Im totally down with this, I just think that at the end of the day the main point of these challenges, competitions and study groups is to learn and practice right?Right So why not learn by making a real app that can help our society and give us money. Before we can start making "real" apps, we need to really understand what we are really doing before we become copy-pasters that just lift code without understanding what it does. - dhtml 1801 Like experience is the best teacher. What if we did these challenges, competitions and study groups in order to make a real app like:a. I don't think this is going to work even Cortana will have a hard time predicting our powerful Nigerian Nepa (Never expect power always) b & c. How would you go about this? Or how do u feel?stated above Like lets team up to build apps that not only will add value to our society, but will also give us money and recognition.I'm all for learning something at the end of the day so you get a thumbs up. |
blenyo11: This is a great one you are starting. At least a place to share, learn and earn.To be honest, I don't have any idea on how to achieve this neither do I fully understand what you are referring to. I just barely got started with Javascript programming last month and as such I'm not that knowledgeable yet. |
stag: *Grabs a seat**Hands him hot akara just out of the frying pan* Welcome bro |
DharkPoet: Been doing a lot of javascript learning these days. Blueyedgeek, this is really nice, would really go a long way, helping brothers out. I'm in like Idi's last name!!Yeah, I've found it hard learning alone and I hope that by connecting with people who are also at the same stage of learning as I am, it becomes easier for all of us. |
mubarak23: this is a well come development, blueyedgeekYou are welcome to the thread bro. |
dhtml: Excellent questions, let us illustrate.Clear on the difference between parameters and arguments but not on the two different methods of creating functions. Why are there two different methods? is one particular way more efficient than the other? |
Are there guys here who are just getting their feet wet with the language of the web? Let's come here to learn JavaScript together. Everyone is encouraged to ask any and all types of Js questions and we'll be here to educate each other. NOTE: Before diving into Javascript, please make sure you have a fairly good knowledge of HTML and CSS, additionally you can ask questions on those two declarative languages but our main focus should be on Javascript. |
What is the difference between creating functions this way: function functionName(){and this way: var variableName = function(){Is there any difference in the two or is it just a matter of preference? Additionally, what is the difference between a parameter and an argument? |
sisqology: una dey para oooNo be so o, una know say this thread no dey stickied again and some people just dey create thread on a per second basis. I no want make dis one loss |
sisqology: Hello all. The new competition will be out tomorrow.Today is tomorrow as prophesied |
qstar: You seem to have forgotten the prophesied battle between Lucifer&his followers vs Yahweh, angel Michael & followers. It is if and when Lucifer is conquered that He'll now go to His kingdom(hades).I pity you. dey dere dey carry atheism for head like hot akara. repent now, rapture is on the way. |
dhtml: Hehehehehe, bootstrap tinzPart 2 never come out? |
zicjoe: k i downloaded sum shits lyk dat and extract demThey are pre-written Css and JavaScript codes. You should read the documentation on the site to understand more about ''sum shits lyk dat''. |
qstar: You are obviously joking here. Yahweh ain't winning neida. Take a good look at the world, even the Christians have a majority share in the Satan's account. Satan is a cool guy, he doesn't go about boasting, but, he's actually got more people (and predictably, more armoury) on His side than Yahweh.Yeah, Yahweh makes you immortal specifically for your time in hell fire. No need to ''fight tire'', hell fire does all the job. Yahweh for the win again. |
Well, let's give the atheists a break here. Compared to Yahweh, Satan is a nice guy. The only bad thing he ever did was to test Jesus on mount Olympus or some kind of wilderness and let's face it, he was only looking out for him. Think I'm lying? he basically begged Jesus to chop bread when he realised that Jesus' ramadan fast was making him look malnourished. Yahweh on the other hand flooded the entire world and he promised not to do it again, why? not because he was truly sorry but because of the confam suya wey Noah prepare as burnt offering. He also destroyed the first skyscraper ever built because he was so scared that humans would breach heaven's security and usurp him from the throne. He has also promised to destroy the earth on his second coming. Yahweh is a bad boy but i like him anyways, I would have gone with Satan but the guy is a bit of a wimp, gave up too easily in the great war in heaven (apparently they fight wars in heaven too). I still wonder the kind of weapons they used though maybe Satan should have become allies with the United States of America before engaging in such a war. Oh well, I only roll with winners and Yahweh always wins (although that could be because he predetermined everything). |
zicjoe: Dis bootstrap of a tin self. Hw does it wrkCheck out their official site |
The only virgin I know is Mary, every other virgin is a counterfeit |
@dhtml, boss. This is too complex for a beginner na. I've just been staring at code and feeling like a dummy ![]() What is switch, case, break, String.fromCharCode I haven't been properly introduced to these beautiful ladies |
var followingThread = true; |
Dlastofmykind: Ok.... The reason why i posted was that my name was not among those people that submitted their work.I've mailed you |
dhtml: A job, a job, a job, caramba! yes that is it, a job. . . .in what format do you want the job?
|
Karleb: 1. I will stop being HELLophobic. So are you telling me that you only do good deeds when there is a reward involved? Do you think that people can be good for the sake of it? |
