It's funny how we have completely digressed from the topic of discuss and are now just focusing on red herrings and whatnot. We don't have to treat these discussions as a versus match all the time. |

felixomor:No, your answer was dismissive at best. I was just trying to see how far you are willing to go with the notion that morality is solely a product of religion. ========================================== By the way, I think we are digressing from the main subject of discuss. I'd be willing to have this discussion on a more suitable thread. |

KingEbukasBlog:You do know that morality is a product of societal customs and has nothing to do with religion right? One example; Slavery used to be a normal thing in the past, heck, in the Bible, the Israelites had slaves of their own. The Bible was even once used to validate the enslavement of black people but we have evolved past this point and have come to realize what a barbaric thing slavery is. For the most part, the environment/society which you find yourself in gets to decide what is moral and what is not; there are parts of the world where honor killing is considered a moral thing to do, there are parts of the world where your status in life is determined by your skin color. For the most part, whatever you call your moral compass is a product of all your experiences in life (influence from the society, influence from parents, influence from friends et al) and doesn't just magically apply to only you just because you believe in a supreme deity. I shudder to think you would suddenly become a killer if for any reason you stopped believing in the existence of deities. I don't assent to sexual servitude but North President Kim does not agree with meYou do see the problem with your logic right? Just because Shekau decided to become a terrorist, does it make all Muslims terrorists? You can't put everybody in a box because of the actions of one. |

KingEbukasBlog:Morality is a pretty complex topic and it would serve you well not to dismiss anybody who has a differing opinion to your own as someone without a moral compass. Just a quick question, is there any moral action that you can perform that an atheist can't? |
Religion / Re: Did God Command Genocide In The Bible ? This Will Shock You ! by blueyedgeek(m): 1:45pm On Dec 29, 2016 |
Let us not forget the topic at hand. did God command genocide in the Bible? The Oxford dictionary defines genocide as the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular nation or ethnic group. Based on the definition above, did God command genocide or not? If you are trying to explain why genocide was necessary at the time or how God answers to nobody, that's a different argument but did God command genocide to be carried out by the Israelites? The answer is yes. |

KingEbukasBlog:I feel like God in all his glory surely could have found a better way to correct these wicked people rather than commanding them to be wiped off the face of the earth. 400 years is meaningless to God (seeing as he is not bound by time or space) and he is also all knowing and can do all things (frankly, I don't see the point of all the brouhaha of waiting for the Canaanites to change when the change could simply be willed. I mean, he had no problem with hardening Pharoah's heart so not messing with free will is out of the way. ) The Israelites were supposed to be a shining light to the other nations of the world but did they go about it in the best way possible? Why couldn't they show the world a better way to go about doing things rather than pillaging lands and killing children? Couldn't they have been a force for peace rather than war? Couldn't they have not repayed evil for evil? Couldn't they have showed the other nations of the world the path to the one true God? 2 Likes 1 Share |

Religion / I'm Denouncing Agnosticsm/atheism Because Of Mark Zuckerberg by blueyedgeek(m): 4:43pm On Dec 26, 2016 |
See how stupid that sounds? Becoming an agnostic / atheist is and still remains a personal decision. One doesn't denounce religion /deities/the supernatural solely because someone else you have great respect for/admire is treading the same path (anybody who becomes an agnostic/atheist solely by following someone else needs to deeply reflect and re-evaluate their reasons for becoming agnostic/atheist in the first place) So, Mark Zuckerberg says he's not an atheist - - great! His choice of beliefs has never been the driving factor for agnostics/atheists and it doesn't change anything for existing agnostics/atheists. In the end, what matters is that you stay true to yourself. 8 Likes 2 Shares |

Sorry to bust your bubble but Christmas is deeply rooted in paganism and has nothing to do with the birth of Jesus. December 25th was chosen as the birth date of Jesus because it coincided with existing pagan celebrations. |

felixomor: With regards to the amount of members that nairaland has, the answer can either be true or false and not both of them which makes it different from the questions in the quiz where both presented options are correct and can also be incorrect based on a different account of the same event in the Bible. 8 Likes |

The story of creation as postulated by Christians really has a lot going for it, only thing is the people that wrote it didn't have great foresight. Talking snakes and donkeys, while intriguing are still things that should be left in a children fantasy book not a serious book that aims to explain the why and how of existence. @op, your story is hilarious by the way although I'm not too sure of your own aim (are you giving your own account as inspired by Lucie or just narrating how the events actually happened. Either way, it's interesting). I also read in a different thread that you used to go by the moniker Muskeeto and if that's the case, my oga, I troway salute. (I doubt you'll even remember me). 6 Likes |

@DonSegmond has said it all already. As a startup, the most important thing is building your product and getting to the market on time. To get to the market on time, your developers have to use the tools that they are most confident with using cause in the end, they all achieve the same thing. |

Webmasters / Re: Why Responsive Design Sucks And Reduces The Mobile Friendliness Of Your Site. by blueyedgeek(m): 7:10am On Jul 26, 2015 |
directonpc:Actually when doing responsive design, it's best approached from a mobile first perspective meaning that you design the most basic components first and then extend and improve for high end devices. By the way, look into zurb foundation's interchange for a client side only way of partially loading html content on the fly meaning that a truly responsive site would load different content based on user's device. With interchange, a browser only downloads what it needs thereby saving data. Another thing to point out is the way different browsers treat css's display:none, for some browsers, when they encounter this rule, they still download the same content as high end devices but opera mini (which seems to be your main concern) doesn't. Read through this link for the break-down http://timkadlec.com/2012/04/media-query-asset-downloading-results/ See first response. Google just implemented a new policy that actually favors responsive sites in their search engine, so basically if your site isn't mobile responsive (responsive not a different m.subdomain.com) you won't get a good ranking on Google. Also, it would do you well not to think of responsive design as the best solution to everything. Sometimes having a dedicated mobile site is a better solution and for sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google, it is justified. Facebook for example has about 751 million people accessing Facebook from their mobile devices and this merits having a separate mobile site well tailored for mobile users. The last sentence in your post about nobody being able to counter your points is just arrogant, we are all in this to learn, if you present a good argument people would see merit in it and will agree with you. 8 Likes |
