United States Of America Explains why It Won't Sell Arms To Nigeria by Solozzo(m): 9:51pm
Do you think the United States of America is fair in refusing to sell arms to Nigeria when it's at war with terrorists? Read the American ambassador in Nigeria explain the United States of America reason for denying Nigeria weapons in times of war, and judge for yourself.

DESPITE the urgent need for external support for Nigeria to defeat Boko Haram, the United States (U.S.) has declared that it will not sell arms to the Federal Government.

The position of the U.S. was disclosed by the country's Ambassador to Nigeria, James F. Entwistle.

Entwistle, who spoke in Yola Thursday in an interactive session with journalists after addressing American University of Nigeria (AUN) students and staff on his mission to Adamawa State, explained that the decision of the U.S. government not to sell arms to the country was due to what he described as massive human rights abuses by the Nigeria military.

"The U.S. government is against human rights abuse by any country in the world. So it will be ungodly for the U.S. to sell arms to Nigeria, a country that its military is notoriously known for human rights abuse. We cannot sell our arms to a country that will use our technology which is meant for defence of the helpless people to harass the helpless citizens", he said.

On the Boko Haram's killings in the north-eastern part of the country, he said that the crisis was getting stronger due to the political undertone and internal sabotage by the people of Nigeria.

"In the past six months it is very clear the manner Boko Haram is getting stronger that there is internal sabotage. The deadly gang has efficient military operations, the way they operate is clear that they receive military training based on the tactics they employ to operate", he maintained.

He said that U.S. government had been training Nigeria military in different fields including information management and war tactics to improve the productivity of both the personnel and officers.

The U.S. ambassador maintained that Nigeria and his country had a good relationship and that President Barrack Obama was building a stronger friendship between the two countries for economy prosperity of Nigeria.

"President Jonathan is the only African President that has meetings twice with Obama and another meeting with Obama's deputy. This is to show that the U.S. government has special interest to support Nigeria to grow fast. The fact that Obama is yet to visit Nigeria cannot be used as a sign that the relationship between the two countries is sour", he stated.

Entwistle, who said that he was in Yola to monitor the aborted governorship by-election in tomorrow, pointed out that the major problem militating against the development of Nigeria

was corruption, which he said had detained the growth of both democracy and the economy of the country.

"Corruption is a huge problem in Nigeria, everybody knows about this. Corruption can be tackled in Nigeria only when there are strong institutions like the security agents, judiciary and others. Individuals should be bold to challenge public office holders on how they get money to buy big cars, build houses in Abuja, Lagos and other parts of the world. The members of the media should be courageous to put Nigerian leaders on the public scale for members of the public to judge their activities in office", he said.

On the 2015 general elections, the U.S. ambassador insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must fashion out modalities that could allow the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to vote.

"It will be constitutionally wrong for INEC to deny these people from voting, if they are excluded from the election it means the election result cannot be credible because some Nigerians are denied their rights to vote. The power of any individual is his rights to vote for the leader of his choice, if you deny him that right, you have taken away his power to question or caution the person in office. So it is very important for INEC to include the IDPs in the 2015 general elections", he maintained.

Entwistle, who rated the American University of Nigeria, Yola as among the best institutions in the world, noted that the school would contribute to the fast development of the country and other African countries.

Fellow Nigerians our victory over Ebola was not a cheap one Ameyo Adadevoh gave her life for it, Many salt water drinkers and "bathers" paid the ultimate sacrifice
Our country rose in Unison to confront the disease and achieved success in record time, we had casualties along the line but we prevailed.

However, this evening as hard working Nigerians returned home to enjoy a deserved rest after 5 days successive dissipation of energy, we were confronted with News that Britain has decided to rubbish our Ebola Victory and classify us among Ebola stricken nations.

For the avoidance of doubt

The world Health organization (WHO) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) have independently confirmed after 21 days that Nigeria is presently Ebola Free

By epidemiologically standards Nigeria should officially receive her certificate after 42 days(Incubation period ) which is October 20th

But the British Health service now thinks otherwise they posted this. ( See pic below) classifying us with Sierra Leone , Guinea and Liberia )

Omitting Senegal, US, Spain Congo, and other who now have cases of the diseases.

Pls join Reno Omokri and other well meaning Nigerians in the campaign to get the British NHS to remove Nigeria from that List by either retweeting this response from Nigeria

Rightly spelt out

jotey:
this is what you get from making Nigeria an enemy grin

China has toppled America to become the biggest
economy in the world, according to figures from
the International Monetary Fund.
The US has been the global leader since it
overtook Britain in 1872, but has now lost its
status as top dog.
The latest IMF figures show the Chinese economy
is worth £11trillion compared with £10.8trillion for
the US.
China – whose wealth has accelerated in recent
decades amid rapid industrialisation – is expected
to extend its lead, with the IMF estimating its
economy will be worth £16.7trillion in 2019.
That would be 20 per cent bigger than the US
economy, which is forecast to be worth
£13.8trillion by then.
The numbers are based on ‘purchasing power
parity’ (PPP) which makes adjustments for the fact
that goods are cheaper in countries such as China
relative to the US.
Without these adjustments for living costs, the
Chinese economy is still smaller than that of the
US, at £6.4trillion.
But experts have described the toppling of America
after nearly 150 years by China – even on the PPP
measure – as a ‘symbolic’ moment for the global
economy.
China enjoyed three decades of double-digit
growth before the global downturn, as
industrialisation and sweeping economic reforms
created a new powerhouse in the East.
Growth has slowed in recent years but remains
strong by Western standards with the IMF
forecasting expansion of 7.4 per cent this year and
7.1 per cent in 2015.
By contrast, the IMF is predicting growth of just
2.2 per cent in the US this year and 3.1 per cent
next year, while the UK is set for expansion of 3.2
per cent and 2.7 per cent.
The Fund yesterday said the US and the UK ‘are
approaching economic lift-off’ as they bounce
back from the recession. But Olivier Blanchard,
chief economist at the IMF, warned that ‘potential
growth is lower than it was in the early 2000s’ for
much of the West, including the US and UK. Nigeria an enemy
Politics / Why Nigerian Military Has Difficulty Getting Arms From America — U.S. Govt. by Bmart(m): 11:50pm On Oct 09, 2014
Why Nigerian military has difficulty getting arms from America — U.S. govt.
--------------------
The American government has given insight into why the Nigerian military is facing difficulty procuring arms from the United States to combat the extremist Boko Haram sect wreaking havoc in Nigeria’s North East region.
The real reason why our great county Nigerian and its military has difficulty getting arms from America is BECAUSE NIGERIA REFUSE TO JOIN THE GAY CLUB. Last year, Nigerians united in praise of the administration of president Jonathan for signing the Anti-Gay Law in defiance of the western countries. Uganda did the same, but later backtracked due to overwhelming pressure from the west. Nigeria also faced sinister pressures from the west but refused to bulge. For once, Nigerians agreed the administration did the right thing and vowed to stick with the administration on this issue to the end no matter what. In international diplomacy no country snub or slight the United states and not get a pay back. And Nigeria slighted the united states when she signed the anti-gay law, and now its pay back time. Nigeria is seriously faced with the threat of insurgents in her soil and need sophisticated weapons to curb them. Now we need the US for supply of arms which they bluntly refused. The US has vowed to make nigeria pay for daring to assert her sovereign right as a nation. US have asked her allies not to give weapons to nigeria. As the insurgency continue to hit harder and eat deeper into nigeria, and nigeria out of desperation have to turn to South Africa a sister nation to covertly help nigeria procure these weapons from the west. Nigeria in her desperation for weapons forgot that SA is a member of the Gay club and will have to put the interest of her club members first. The embarrassment nigeria got from the SA government recently is not a coincident. This is a gang up by the US and her allies to bring nigeria to her knees and to make her pay for her defiance. SA has not been comfortable with nigeria's stance on the Gay issue in Africa and therefore waiting for opportunity to undo nigeria. Nigerians who clapped for this administrations' position on the gay issue are the ones who now berate the administration for its effort to find ways through the backlash to get the much needed weapons for our military. The insurgents, rebels or terrorists-call them whatever you like- get their weapons from foreign countries, while nigeria is not allowed. And no international effort has been made to place arms embargo on the rebels. It is a well known fact that some of the rebels weapons are more sophisticated than that of our military. At a point it was noticed that rebels have night vision goggles which our military don't have. Immediately after the chibok girls abduction, the US who refuse to sell us weapons came with so much noise and fan fare pretending to help us, only for them to fly their spy planes round our airspace seaching out our weaknesses and nothing was heard of the US again. I want us to understand that the war on our soil is an international conspiracy against nigeria by the west or gay club member countries led by the US. This is the time we have to rally round the government to enbolden the government to stand its ground. Unnecessary and sentimental criticism of the government may weaken the administrations' resolve and give in to the US demand for nigeria to become a Gay country.

Let's not be decieved the claimed to have the cure for ebola yet an american citizen died of the deadly virus, why couldn't they use the Zmapp or wateva d claimed that cud cure ebola instead d allowed an almighty american citizen die.... The truth is slowly revealing itself
Now is the best time to stand firmly behind our government because We are fighting international war and not mere rebels. And also our government has to shift our alliance to Russian and China now.

Politics / 2015: Babangida Endorses Jonathan by Bmart(m): 7:57am On Aug 17, 2014
Culled from: sunnewsonline.com

…Says president has right to seek 2nd term

Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (Retd), has given approval to the anticipated 2015 re-election bid of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, just as he urged Nigerians to be patient with the president in his efforts to tackle the myriad of problems facing the country.

In an interview with journalists at his Minna country home to mark his 73rd birthday, Babangida said there is nobody in Jonathan’s shoes who would not take advantage of a second term.

“Well, if you were in his shoes, won’t you want to come back if you are there? If you believe in what you are doing, and you are doing well, why shouldn’t you? I think we once got it right, and we can still get it right, and you guys have to get it right.

“I think what is lacking is what I have always referred to as voter education, the level of understanding, the level of belief are still below what we expect. For instance, if you (the journalist) were elected as the governor of your state today, you should be able to take a survey of whether people like you because you are doing well, but they may not like you because you are not fulfilling the promises you made to them.

“The only means is for the people to be patient and at the time of next election, the leader gets voted out. So, we have not reached the stage where the ordinary voter would say no, as a matter of fact, their leaders have not done well, let us vote them out. Once you do that, I think in the next dispensation, somebody else would come in and I really hope we would reach that stage where ideas are the main issues, not which zone should produce X, Y, Z positions. I think this is still part of the little problems that we are facing.”

As to what the old generation of leaders is doing about the multifarious problems confronting the country, Babangida said the leaders are doing a lot, and if there is any set of Nigerians who understand the problems of this country, they are those of them who have had the opportunity to be at the helm of affairs at various times in the life of the country.

“We know what the problem is, we appreciate what the President is doing, and the best we can do, and what we are always doing is to be of help or assistance to him in forms of advice, meetings, interaction and so on.

“I think this is one of the luckiest countries, which has got seven living heads of state including interim head of government, and we have always availed ourselves through the President and we have also appreciated the problems the President, is facing, and because we were once there, we appreciate it more than any other person in the country. The best we could do is to always sit with him in an environment that is really conducive and then give him advice, and I think I am glad to say that we are doing the best we can to assist him, while we urge Nigerians to be patient with Mr. President.

“I have always said that there would be Nigeria in 1,000 years to come and, therefore, everybody who has followed the history of this country would have observed that every administration from the late Tafawa Balewa period to the current regime, every administration had faced one challenge or the other during the course of it’s time and this one cannot be the end because the last administration had its own challenge too. The important thing is that we the people should strive hard to overcome the problem and then move forward. I think what is happening to us is not new in any developing country.”

Reacting to a question on the level of insecurity in the country, especially as it affects the abducted Chibok girls, the former leader responded thus: “I am aware of what the government is doing now, and I know that there is a lot of competition. It is no longer an issue that you could ask the military to move inside Sambisa forest and release these young girls. I think what Nigerians want is that they want them released and come home alive, and not dead. Nigerians want them alive and this is a very genuine thinking. From my experience as a professional soldier, we need a lot of planning, a lot of co-operation. A lot of studies have to be done to achieve this objective.

“Either 217 or 219 or whatever the number is, it is a lot of number to lose just like that, but I think the government is trying from what we got during our last briefing, and I am quite satisfied  that efforts are being made to get them released. You see, the objective is to get them out of that place alive because the operative word is alive, hence if we enforce any military operation, we can get them all killed. So, the objective could be defeated.”

Talking about impunity in governance, the impeachment saga and the militarization of the electoral process, IBB expressed disagreement, saying, “it is still part of the learning process.

“You may call it impunity,  you may give it any name you want, but for those  of you who are observers, I think I would like to see a situation where a chief executive of a state is being accused and he is given an opportunity to come forward and say look, this is not true. He has  his team of lawyers, the state House of Assembly would also have their lawyers too, and they should make it public so that the public gets to know what is happening, and at the end of the day the two parties would iron out their differences.

“But don’t forget that in our current situation, like I said, we are just in the learning process because if it is one particular party that has more than the two-thirds majority in the House of Assembly  to remove a governor anytime they find there is a breach of the constitution or gross misconduct it will be easy. But I hope to see a situation where the governor as the chief executive of the state can talk over the heads of those of them in the assembly and reach out to the public assuming the governor is doing well, the public will support him.”

Babangida expressed the hope that a time would come when the immunity clause will no longer be an issue, although every chief executive has something in him that needs protection like his name, his reputation, his family and so many other things.

According to the former leader, those are the things he should protect, not immunity that is there for one thing or the other.

“But if you accuse me, I will like to prove to you that you are wrong. But time would come when the chief executives would rather defend themselves especially on the issue of their personal integrity. They are supposed to remove this issue of immunity clause and the rest of them.

Politics / BREAKING NEWS -why I Want To Be Next Governor Of Rivers – Julius Agwu by Bmart(m): 5:27am On Aug 11, 2014
The success story of comedy in Nigeria cannot be complete without the mention of great comedians like Julius Agwu. The Choba-born comedian, actor and musician has joined pantheon of intending gubernatorial aspirants warming up to take the reins of power from Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State. In this chat with Potpourri, the diminutive entertainer talks about his political intent, his career and other things. Excerpts:
It is been quite a while; what’s been happening?
I am working on a lot of projects at the moment; I am still organising comedy shows. l am currently working on something for my music. I have a band called ‘Reel Laif Band’ and we are performing at the Encomium black and white ball holding this Sunday.
The news is going round that you are working at becoming the governor of your state. What is your take on this?
Yes, I am working on that project too at the moment.
Would you call yourself a politician?
I cannot really call myself a politician, but l am someone who prays and wish for things to get better than it is in this country. I believe I can help to achieve what my brother started in Rivers State. It is a known truth that Port Harcourt was the Garden City of this great country, but we lost that glory because of poverty and neglect, coupled with incessant militancy and kidnapping. Governor Amaechi has done well for the State, but we still need good hands after he leaves to continue the good work.
If you are not a politician then why do you want to be the governor of Rivers State?
Becoming the governor of Rivers State was not something that came up overnight. It was not on my radar back then. The people of Rivers State in the Diaspora and those in the State have been clamouring for me to come out as an aspirant. They believe I have what it takes to go for it. It just dawned on me that I indeed have what it takes. I have given it a serious thought and have given in to their pressure.
These people who have been bothering you, would they sponsor your election, if yes, who are they?
Yes, they will. But I do not want to disclose their names for security reasons.
Will you use a political party at the end of the day?
Yes, we shall, eventually, but I do not want to unveil that now.
In your future party, do you think an aspirant from your party will be going for the presidency?
Yes, when the time comes it will be revealed.
How is the comedy business these days?

Comedy is so important that even people outside the shores of Nigeria know about it before us. Obasanjo was someone who practiced it while he was in power.
What else do you have up your sleeve?
I have a studio and I also own a construction company
