lol a customer just sent his DualSense Edge (the pro controller of the PlayStation 5) for the upgrading of the analog for the standard drift-prone “potentiometer” analog sticks to the perfect latest tech “Hall effect” analog sticks. The third picture is the former and the fourth is the latter.

For the layman, just know that, when you buy a new controller, be it today, be it tomorrow, be it next week or next year, one day your analog go drift, in a nutshell, it’ll be moving on it’s own on the screen without you pressing anything. You just cannot escape it.

Thing is, the potentiometer analog sticks were built this way, it uses physical touch (a sliding part) to change resistance, so over time, the sliding part will be affected by wear and tear and will drift. The Hall Effect analog sticks on the other hand uses magnetic fields (no touch) to measure position. So since no parts are grinding against each other, no wear and tear, no drifts (theoretically),

to be on the safe side, if it’ll take a potentiometer analog a year before drifting, it’ll take the Hall effect analog 4 years to drift, that’s if it ever does self.

But remember boys, it all depends on how aggressive you are with the controller, treat it like your babe!
