The number 30 seems a very powerful number, don't you think? It has a way of compelling people to refocus and restrategise. Churches these days are filled with the very near and the above 30s. The guys suddenly become devoted, starts taking the bible courses with plans of becoming a pastor and the ladies become Ushers, choir and what have you. Hmmm 30 I fear you o |

DNA TWINS GET EVICTED Everyone gathered to witness the second eviction night of debut music talent show Glo X Factor. But no one foresaw the surprise; the eviction of Clinton and Blair Roberts, better known as the DNA Twins. It was heart-breaking for many who witnessed one of the show’s favourites kiss the dust of eviction. Following their eviction, the handsome duo thus became the second act to leave the X Factor show. Last week, the group Smooth Boiz bid the show goodbye, after they had been nominated for eviction alongside Eshum after the representative of Alexander Forbes handed over a black envelope containing the result of the previous week’s votes to Toolz, the show presenter. The exit of DNA was also not without drama. The crowd at the recording studio were stunned when Toolz announced that DNA and Ghanaian sensation, Eshum, were among the bottom two. The two acts had, all along, done very well in the competition and not many expected them to be in the bottom two. While the 17-year-old twins lost out to Eshum, who had two of the judges – Onyeka Onwenu and M.I – to thank for saving and keeping her in the show, DNA could only find favour with Ghanaian hip-life star, Reggie Rockstone: Thus, ended the twins’ dream of winning the competition’s N24million prize money and Sony Music International’s recording deal. - See more at: http://leadership.ng/news/180813/glo-x-factor-more-shock-dna-twins-kiss-dust#sthash.rU8nZ0re.dpuf

REALITY CHECK Luck has finally run out on the Smooth Boiz who were voted out by the judges after standing trial for two consecutive weeks as one of the last two least voted contestants. The Smooth Boiz ran the last test of their run in the reality show alongside the Symphony who have also being at the rock bottom for the second week running. Before a live audience on Friday, it looked like luck might again come to the rescue for the boys, but then they were standing at the exit door with the Symphony, who also needed all the luck they could get. Like a penalty shoot-out in a game of soccer, somebody must just take the fall. It was left to the 3 judges, Onyeka Onwenu, Reggie Rockstone and MI to vote one group out. A tough task that got Onyeka, who had to make the first call, in a bit of a twist. She voted Smooth Boiz to a quaking roar from the crowd. That was the closest the Smooth Boiz got to making it back to the show as MI and Reggie, who voted in that respective order voted the Symphony. Well, this rather sad scenario played out after the two groups have done their last performances to woo the judges. Though, a good chunk of the audience thought the Smoot Boiz were hard done by the judges because there was a palpating feeling they gave a better show than the Symphony on their last outing. Hey, Reggie and MI have been around long enough to know who should stay or go. They were warmly welcomed by their entire society

A 6-year-old girl was apparently cured of cancer using a form of the HIV virus to fight leukemia cells. The young girl, Emma Whitehead, was put on a clinical trial when it appeared all hope was lost and chemotherapy failed. She was injected with a disabled form of the HIV virus to reprogram her immune system to destroy cancer cells genetically, reported Yahoo! Whitehead has now been in remission since December. “She is in complete remission, she has no leukemia in her body by any test that we can do, even the most sensitive tests,” Dr. Stephan Grupp of Philadelphia’s Children’s Hospital said. The doctors are calling the HIV strands “serial killer cells” as they hunt down all cancer cells. “The treatment works by injecting a harmless, modified version of HIV into the patient’s immune cells, training their immune system to recognize and kill cancer cells. The idea is to ‘fight fire with fire,’”said Grupp. Whitehead was one of a dozen people to be given this trial treatment, with three adults making full recoveries and two of them healthy for two years. Four others showed improvement, one child improved but then relapsed, while two showed no improvement. “The patients became very ill with feverish symptoms before recovering, and Emily almost died. Researchers said the treatment, which costs about $20,000 for each patient, was in the early stages but they hope it could ultimately replace risky bone marrow transplants,” reported The Telegraph. “Previous patients got sick, but it wasn’t clear at the time whether it was due to the T-cells or an infection. Now we know the main reason they were sick was the cells. But now we can intervene. (Emily) taught us,” Grupp said. |

Reading throught he sunday punch of the 27th March '11 Oyo stated was listed amongst one of the possible volatile states in the forthcoming elections According to punch; "OLALEKAN ADETAYO examines the possibility of free and fair elections in Oyo State, especially with the arrest of some men with Direct Data Capturing machines in Ibadan and the accompanying violence that have so far trailed electioneering in the state, But the case did not end there. The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, and the ACN also called for a fresh display of voter register in the state. Ladoja who spoke through the Director-General of his campaign organisation, Mr. Adeolu Adeleke , said since Jega had confirmed that the voter register had been tampered with, it was proper for him to disclose the actual number of affected local governments. He said the only way Jega could prove to Nigerians that the voter register in the state was still intact was for him to order fresh display of the register. He also faulted the INEC boss for exonerating Adakeja too early without allowing the panel set up to investigate the incident conclude its assignment. He warned that if the Federal Government’s one-man, one-vote mantra should be taken seriously, the case must not be swept under the carpet. My question is what do we expect.
