By Fred Chukwuelobe What does the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) want? Who is it working for? Nigerians or who? Why are Nigerians tolerating its inadequacies and manifest incompetence and inefficiencies? Instead of being revenue generating source for the country and bringing the needed foreign currency, it has become a drainpipe for years. Why is it bent on punishing Nigerians and pushing the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as fuel, beyond the average man? For several years, the company has been unable to refine one drop of the much-sought-after Bonny light in any of the four refineries in Port Harcourt, new Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna. Instead it has spent trillions of US dollars importing the products, which it exports to foreign refineries for others to refine for it. Meanwhile, it has spent billions of dollars paying salaries and emoluments of children of the privileged who sit down ‘to cook the books’ and smile home with fat salaries for doing nothing. For years, these same workers have gone on different overseas trainings and workshops to ‘learn how to export crude oil and import the refined products’. When president Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office, he retained the oil company’s Group Managing Director (GMD) Mele Kyari and allowed him to restructure the company from NNPC to NNPCL, becoming its first Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) despite his obvious inadequacies. President Buhari appointed Kyari as the group managing director (GMD) of the defunct NNPC. Till date, he remains in office and is supervising the continuing increase in prices of petroleum products and lack of accountability in the industry. When Dangote was completing his refinery, stories were told and ‘retold’ of how much the NNPCL invested in the brand new facility thought to be the solution to frequent hikes in prices and frequent fuel shortages and its attendant queues at filling stations. Till date, nobody knows how much the NNPCL invested in Dangote Refinery and nobody knows how much Dangote paid to acquire the land on which his company sits. Enter Dangote Refinery and before its products would hit the markets controversy erupted: 1. Its products was said to be inferior to imported ones; Dangote denied that. 2. It was not ready to begin production; Aliko Dangote denied that and made startling revelations of how much he paid for the land acquisition ($100m) and asked those who have a refinery in Malta to tell Nigerians why they’re insisting on importing the product instead of allowing his refinery do the job. Finally, they allowed him to buy their crude and refine it. To do that, they first increased the price of their own imported fuel. Then they became the chief marketer of Dangote refinery and the chief buyer. They lined hundreds of tankers through the narrow, famished Lekki-Epe Expressway and began lifting the products. To justify their high prices, they claimed Dangote sells refined fuel to them at N898 per liter, meaning that its recently approved pump price of N855 per liter was unsustainable, which would lead to further adjustments of its official pump price of N855. Dangote Refinery promptly denied that claim, and the NNPCL is yet to tell Nigerians why it is insisting in pushing the pump prices higher and punishing Nigerians. Meanwhile, many private filling stations adjusted their own pump prices as they deem necessary. Some are selling at N900 per liter. Others N1,000, N1,100, N1,150, etc. In parts of the country, it is N1,300, N1,400. I bought N1,400 in Anambra state. While all these shenanigans are playing out, docile Nigerians are busy queuing up, ‘suffering and smiling’. Prices of essential goods and services which are determined by fuel prices are skyrocketing. Schools fees are being adjusted and the recently approved minimum wage of N70,000 has become meaningless. That leaves me with these questions: 1. Who is the NNPCL working for? 2. Why is it bent on hiking the pump price of fuel? 3. Why is the GCEO of the company still in office despite his obvious failures and inability to tame the NNPCL monster? 4. When would Nigerians rise up and insist that the NNPCL be held to account for its failures for decades? 5. What the h*ll is going on? What happened to the subsidy that was removed? Why have we not seen the benefits, that is, if there was subsidy and it was removed? Please, if anybody knows the answers to these questions, let me know. I am at a loss as to why nobody has been able to tame this NNPCL monster. …Says cabal under Buhari stole billions of dollars ABUJA — A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former member of the House of Representatives for Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency of Edo State, Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, has said the hardship in the country would not affect the chances of his party in next Saturday’s governorship election in the state. Agbonayinma also alleged that cabal under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration stole billions of dollars. Speaking exclusively to Vanguard, Agbonayinma, popularly known as EJ, said President Bola Tinubu was not the cause of the hardship many Nigerians were facing, alleging that many people that found themselves in the corridors of power for some time had eaten the country’s future. On the insinuations in some quarters that the current economic hardship in the country could affect the chances of the APC in the September 21 governorship elections in Edo State, Agbonayinma said: “I can tell you that President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is not the cause of our predicament. ‘’We are our own problems. Why? Corruption has eaten Nigeria deeply. When we fight corruption, corruption fights back. “Before Tinubu came into office, the country was messed up by some cabal, before President (Muhammadu) Buhari came into office, the country was messed up by some cabal, when President Olusegun Obasanjo was President, the country was also bastardized. “Corruption is the major problem facing our dear nation. Are we ready to fight corruption? Or is it just talking about it and not dealing with the root cause? For me, preventive measure is always the best option. “To curtail and to combat the menace of corruption, it requires the collective effort of every patriotic Nigerians. There’s corruption all over the world, but that of Nigeria is something else. “When someone is caught in America or any other part of the world, he is prosecuted, but when anyone is caught in Nigeria, he is celebrated, if the money that is meant to construct road, to build infrastructure was stolen yesterday, what can you do tomorrow? “So the problem when you say APC, I could remember when Nigerians were crying that PDP had ruined the country. As at today, even the fact that things are hard, look at what Mr. President is doing in terms of building infrastructure. “ Look at Abuja today. Look at the face of Abuja, it has been changed totally. Look at Abuja-Benin road being awarded. Look at the Nigerian railway being revamped just about one year that President Tinubu came on board. When Buhari was President of this country, the cabal stole so much, billions of dollars, not just naira.” On how prepared APC was for the September 21 election, the former federal lawmaker said: “Well, APC is more than prepared than I’ve ever thought. ‘’The people of Edo having seen bad leadership over the years, how Edo state has been bastardized in the area of infrastructure, healthcare, education, and road infrastructure. “When it rains in Edo, just five minutes of rain, it becomes river Obaseki and river Asue together. GRA that used to be celebrated as one of the best areas in Nigeria, Benin City, that used to be adored is now being taken over by flood and erosion, everywhere stands still because we have a governor that refused to do the right thing. “The people are capitalizing on that, they have a governor that has failed them, and for him to now decide to bring somebody else, they decided that they will work against anyone that Godwin Obaseki endorses. “He has endorsed Asue Ighodalo and Ogie. Asue is a man that was chairman of Sterling Bank, he was Chairman of the Nigerian Breweries. Go to his own village, Obhohinwi in Esan Central, nothing to show for that, you can see that he was not able to impart on the lives of the people of Obhohinwi and Edo Central. He has never been in touch with his people all these years.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/09/hardship-wont-affect-our-party-in-edo-guber-polls-apc-chieftain/ |
DeLaRue:If that is the case. Why did NNPCL monopolize PMS from dangote refinery. Why is NNPCL the only off taker of dangote refinery PMS. Why not allow everyone including independent market to also by pms from dangote refinery |

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reiterated that Julius Abure’s tenure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party expired in June 2024. This was made known in a counter affidavit filed in response to the Labour Party’s suit challenging its exclusion from INEC’s refresher training for uploading party agents ahead of the Edo and Ondo States governorship elections. INEC emphasized that the Labour Party’s leadership, including Abure, is no longer valid, and the Commission did not recognize the party’s March 2024 National Convention, which claimed to re-elect Abure as chairman. INEC maintained that the convention violated the Nigerian Constitution and Electoral Act, further stating that it only engages with parties that have valid and subsisting leadership. In a written address in support of the counter affidavit, INEC’s legal team, led by Tanko Inuwa, SAN, argued that the Labour Party’s suit is seeking declaratory reliefs, which cannot be granted as a matter of course or based on mere admissions. They contended that the Labour Party must succeed on the strength of its case, even in the face of admissions. The Commission’s lawyers further submitted that having failed to comply with the extant legal frameworks in conducting its national convention; the Labour Party does not have a valid leadership that INEC can engage. They urged the court to dismiss the suit, insisting that the Labour Party is not entitled to the reliefs sought. https://politicsnigeria.com/abures-tenure-as-labour-party-national-chairman-expired-in-june-2024-inec-insists/?utm_source=operamini&utm_medium=feednews&utm_campaign=operamini_feednews Cc seun Mynd44 OAM4J Nlfpmod fergie001 |
spearman:But why is the British colonial contraption called Nigeria still holding on to the 5 plots since 1967 |
Imagine the presidency telling the good people of Edo State to vote for the APC in the forthcoming gubernatorial election to birth a functional state, and one wonders if the country under them is functioning. The good people of Edo State should by now know that Tinubu is up for no good. He is averse to transparency and accountability, going by his antecedents of being a notorious narcotics drug trafficker, certificate forger, buccaneering power grabber engaging in criminal state capture. Tinubu is not a democrat and has never been a democrat. He is not interested in a transparent election. He is out to snatch, grab, and run with it. |
I hope the good people of Edo State are not sitting by, creating hashtags on social media demanding transparency because that will be the greatest mistake of their lives. You don't demand transparency and accountability from a notorious narcotics drug trafficker, certificate forger, buccaneering power grabber engaging in criminal state capture. You demand transparency and accountability by getting involved, by going out there to vote, by protecting your vote and ensuring that it is counted and uploaded and seen to have been uploaded on IREV. Tinubu doesn't know what it means to be transparent and accountable because he is not a democrat and has never been a democrat. Events of the past few months have shown that Tinubu is worse than Idi Amin Dada and an incarnate of Adolf Hitler. |
