Politics › Tinubu’s Government Worst In Anti-Labour Policies – ASUU by Bobloco(op): 7:21am On Jun 26, 2024 |
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ilọrin chapter, on Tuesday described the President Bola Tinubu-led administration as the worst in anti-labour policies.
The union disclosed this while addressing newsmen shortly after a peaceful protest to lament the state of the nation and the educational system.
Speaking during the event, the branch chairman of the union, Comrade Felix Akanmu, said that barely a year ago when the present administration was inaugurated, hopes were high on a timely resolution of their demands and revolutions. He added that their expectations were premised on pseudo democratic roles played by some prominent elements who are now in government.
“We were deceived by bringing on board people who led protests in this country. But thaey are now acting contrary to nature and have been more anti-labour in their operations.
“As we speak, despite several efforts, the present government has not deemed it fit to meet ASUU officially. But we have a country to rescue and we shall overcome,” he noted.
He added that “The government, instead of committing itself to negotiated welfare packages and revitalisation/proper funding of our institutions, has conscientiously maintained lines of frustration, blackmail and use of hunger as weapons to demystify the essence of our struggles.
“The illegally dissolved and reconstituted governing council and boards of universities have been replaced by politicians,” Akanmu alleged.
Meanwhile, ASUU has issued a four-week ultimatum to the Federal Government to respond to its demands or face industrial action.
Addressing newsmen after a peaceful protest at the Federal University of Kashere (FUK), Gombe state, ASUU chairman, Comrade Shehu El-Rasheed, said they staged the protest over the non-payment of their Earned Academic Allowances (EAA), withheld salaries, lack of payment of promotion arrears and total rejection of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and would embark on strike at the expiration of the ultimatum.
In a related development, the ASUU in Benue State University (BSU), on Tuesday, protested an alleged total negligence by the Tinubu-led government towards public universities in the country.
The union, displaying placards with different inscriptions as they marched around the BSU campus, called on spirited Nigerians who have the interest of public universities at heart to intervene before it leads to another prolonged strike action. https://dailytrust.com/tinubus-govt-worst-in-anti-labour-policies-ASUU/

Namaster: "My dilemma stems from my plan to marry a Nigerian woman."
More than a DECADE in a foreign country and you still want to marry a Nigerian woman?
WTF is WRONG with you??
ALSO, why the fucck do you need to understand the perspectives of Nigerians on life and relationships?
Did you RUN AWAY from Nigeria because said perspectives were something to emulate?
You are NOT married and the girl is already CONTROLLING you and trying to ruin your life.
You want ro come to Nigeria to risk your life because of a Nigerian girl. Ask your mother and let her describe the depth of her DISAPPOINTMENTS.
Guy said he wants to travel to DIFFERENT region. Funny man!
By the way, is the girl coming with you or are you undertaking the FOOLISH journey solo?
You spent just 5 days in ANOTHER foreign country with a significant population of Nigerians and you wanted that country to build a WALL like Donald Trump because of the level of fucckery you beheld.
YET you want to come to Nigeria, the father of all SHIITHOLES and the Poverty Capital of the world.
Hold on to your fond memories of a Nigeria governed by Goodluck Jonathan. Don't TAINT it by experiencing the CALAMITY that Tinubu presides over.
Most importantly, you should NOT be doing it for a Nigerian Woman.
Also, avoid the FOOL who told you NO real African woman would marry you. That's a GREAT thing but it seems to have hit your self-esteem hard.
Plus, consider the fact that BLACK women are the LEAST desirable people in the world in addition to Asian men.
Don't let a Nigerian woman send you on a fool's errand. Don't be that guy. This further confirms what Wale Edun, the current minister of finance, said a few months ago, and I quote; The last time Nigeria’s economy was stable was about a decade ago. How did we get here |

Politics › Sultan: Always Verify Your Facts Before Reacting – Sokoto Govt To Shettima by Bobloco(op): 1:09pm On Jun 25, 2024 |
The Sokoto State Government has urged Vice President Kashim Shettima to always verify facts before reacting or commenting on sensitive national matters.
The state government made the call in response to the public warning Shettima made at the Northwest Security Summit in Katsina on Monday,
It said the Vice President should have contacted Governor Ahmed Aliyu to verify the news which made rounds on the purported plan to depose Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar before going public.
According to the statement by Governor Aliyu’s spokesman, Abubakar Bawa, the Vice President should always have full knowledge of issues of national concern before commenting on them.
The statement read in part, “We sincerely expected the Vice President to have consulted the Governor before going public.
“As an elder statesman and a father to all he should have facts and figures before judging on issues raised by mischief makers and the mushroom social media handlers known for negative propaganda.
“The fact of the matter is that there was never any attempt to sack the Sultan nor have we sent him any threat regarding that.
“Sultan enjoys all the powers he is entitled to. We never denied him any of his freedom or rights.
“We therefore do not need to be told to guard, protect, and promote the Sultan. It is our sole responsibility.” https://dailypost.ng/2024/06/25/sultan-always-verify-your-facts-before-reacting-sokoto-govt-to-shettima/

Politics › Traditional Institutions Must Be Protected From State Govt’s Excesses – Atiku by Bobloco(op): 11:07am On Jun 25, 2024 |
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed worry over what he described as a growing tendency of state governments to exert influence by distorting the modalities of enthroning traditional stools.
Atiku, who was the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general election, stressed that traditional institutions must be protected from the arbitrariness of state governments.
In a statement issued on Tuesday via his X handle, the former Vice President said it will become difficult to maintain peace and orderliness in communities if the structure of ascension of traditional rulers was unstable. p
He, therefore, called for constitutional reform that will not only recognize traditional institutions in the nation’s laws but also define the responsibilities of their offices.
Atiku’s read: “Recent developments in the country has seen a growing tendency of state governments exerting influence in distorting the modalities of enthroning traditional stools.
“It is a reality that stares us in the face from every corner of the country.
“While it is understandable that the institutions of traditional rulership is in the exclusive purview of the state government, although through the local government authorities, it must be established that traditional institutions constitute a component of our governance structure.
“And thus, traditional institutions must be protected from the arbitrariness of state governments that threaten their stability.
“When the structure of ascension of traditional rulers is unstable, it will become equally difficult to maintain peace and orderliness in communities.
“Although our constitution, in its current format, does not ascribe any recognition to traditional institutions, yet our experiences show clearly that they perform enormous roles in the economic life of their domains, as well as maintenance of peace and security in communities.
“I wish to remind that the traditional institutions formed the governance structures before the advent of the colonialists. And they governed well. Consequently, they are institutions we must protect and preserve and not destroy.
“It is, therefore, on this basis that I lean towards the advocacy that calls for constitutional reform that will not just recognize traditional institutions in our body of laws but also define the responsibilities of their offices.
“This reform is even more important in view of the collective drive to stem the ugly tide of terrorism and sundry security challenges at the local levels.
“In conclusion, I must also appeal to state governors to accord the necessary respect to the offices of traditional institutions. The customs that our traditional rulers represent is the totality of our heritage as a people.” https://dailypost.ng/2024/06/25/traditional-institutions-must-be-protected-from-state-govts-excesses-atiku/

Crime › Police Arrest Man With Human Skull In Ogun by Bobloco(op): 7:54am On Jun 25, 2024 |
A man has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly exhuming and beheading a corpse for ritual purposes in the Car Wash area of the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Tuesday, disclosed that the suspect, Lekan Akinyemi, was arrested on Monday after a resident alerted the police about suspicious activities around his father’s grave.
The resident, Nojeem Balogun, disclosed that upon inspection of his father’s grave, he discovered that the head of his father’s corpse had been chopped off.
Odutola disclosed that upon receiving the information, operatives from the Adatan Division swung into action and arrested Akinyemi.
She said, “Nojeem Balogun, residing around Iyana Cele Car Wash, Abeokuta, visited the police station and reported that on June 23, 2024, at about 0800hrs, one of his siblings alerted him about unusual activities at their late father’s grave in Isale Itoko, Abeokuta.
“Upon inspection, he found that their father’s head had been removed by an unidentified individual or group. Further inquiries led to the identification of Lekan Akinyemi who was caught red-handed as the culprit who dug up the grave and severed the head.
“Lekan Akinyemi was caught in the act and the case will be handed over to the Anti-Robbery unit for investigation before transferring it to the State CID.”
The PPRO added that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of ongoing investigation.
She, however, assured residents of the state of the command’s commitment to combat crimes and criminalities. https://punchng.com/police-arrest-man-with-human-skull-in-ogun/

Education › UNIZIK Graduate Escaping Prankster’s Tricycle Robbery Dies, Friend Hospitalised by Bobloco(op): 6:59am On Jun 25, 2024 |
A fresh graduate of the Department of Quantity Surveying, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Ifunanya Miracle, aka Bliss, has lost her life during an attempt to escape a yet-to-be-identified prankster’s robbery on the premises of the school in the Awka area of Anambra State. Ifunanya’s friend, identified simply as Peace, a student in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, who was also involved in the robbery, sustained varying degrees of injury and was said to have been rushed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital for treatment. PUNCH Metro gathered that Ifunanya, during her studies, engaged in the business of Point-of-Sale operations on the premises of the school. The graduate was said to have closed her business for the day on Sunday, June 9, 2024, and boarded a tricycle along with Peace to a destination. The duo were said to be on their way when a passenger, who sat beside them, allegedly attempted to rob them of their valuables. A student of the school, who does not want to be mentioned in print for fear of victimisation, told our correspondent that in a desperate attempt to escape the robbery, the two students jumped out of the moving tricycle, adding that while Peace sustained injuries, Miracle was unlucky as she hit her head on the ground during the attempt to escape the operation. The student said, “Miracle just graduated from the university and does a Point-of-Sale operation in the school. The incident happened around 7 pm on June 9, 2024. She does her PoS business at the front of my residence. “She usually packed her business stuff under the staircase in our compound and the stuff is still there. She packed it and put it back there in the evening. But all of a sudden, we just heard that she was dead. “We were like how; she still dropped her stuff under the staircase of our compound on Monday. From what we gathered, she was on a moving tricycle with her friend when a fellow passenger, ordered them to give him their phones. “While trying to escape, Miracle jumped out of the tricycle and hit her head on the road and by the time she was rushed to the hospital, she had died. Her friend, who also jumped out of the tricycle sustained injuries and she is still in hospital.” Another student said the man, who ordered the victims to surrender their property, later claimed that he was pranking them, adding that unconfirmed reports indicated that the man had reported himself to the police. The student said, “We heard the guy has reported himself at the police station and claimed it was a prank. How can he be pranking someone on a moving tricycle? After the incident, we have not heard anything. This lady (Miracle) just died because of the carelessness of some people who claimed to be pranksters. “It could be that he wanted to rob and when he saw the outcome of his action, he changed the argument to pranking because of what happened. The university has not said anything about the case. The fact that the school has not addressed it is a concern. The girl just did her convocation. “The girl who died is Ifunanya Miracle, also known as Bliss, and she was a student in the Department of Quantity Surveying. Her friend’s name is Peace, in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry. She was hospitalised after the incident.” The spokesperson for the school, Dr Emmanuel Ojukwu, when contacted for a reaction, confirmed the incident. The case was adjourned until July 10, 2024, for further hearing. The spokesperson for the school, Dr Emmanuel Ojukwu, when contacted on Monday, confirmed the case and noted that the prankster, a final-year student of the school, would face disciplinary measures after Miracle had been buried. He said, “The university is fully aware of the incident. It was not a robbery but a very expensive prank. The students were told to bring their phones but they didn’t know it was a prank. So, they jumped, one died and one survived. “The families of the victims and that of the final-year student who pranked the victims have held a meeting with us and it was established that it was a prank. “The families have reached some agreement and we want the process of the burial to take place before the student that pranked them will face disciplinary measures. “It was an unfortunate incident; the school regrets it, the student who pranked them regrets it and the family of the concerned student will take responsibility for the funeral of the dead victim and the hospital bill of the other student. We use this opportunity to warn students to avoid expensive pranks that lead to death, the person will face the music.” https://punchng.com/unizik-graduate-escaping-pranksters-tricycle-robbery-dies-friend-hospitalised/ |
