The African Democratic Congress, has called on the National Assembly to urgently pass the Electoral Bill 2025, warning that continued delays could undermine critical electoral reforms and threaten the credibility of the 2027 elections. ADC Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement on Saturday, said the party accused the APC-led Senate of delaying the bill and warned against weakening or stalling key reforms like electronic voter accreditation and results transmission. On Thursday, the Senate inaugurated a seven-member ad hoc committee to review, harmonise, and streamline senators’ contributions to the proposed amendments to the Electoral Act, as part of renewed efforts to fortify Nigeria’s electoral framework ahead of the 2027 general elections. The move followed a three-hour closed-door executive session during which lawmakers examined the Electoral Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill currently under consideration by the National Assembly. Announcing the development, Senate President Godswill Akpabio said the committee will consolidate lawmakers’ positions and resolve outstanding issues in the amendment process. The panel is headed by Niyi Adegbonmire, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters. Reacting, the ADC expressed strong concern over what it described as ongoing delays by the National Assembly on the 2025 Electoral Bill, warning that the slow pace suggests the APC-led legislature may be stalling key amendments meant to curb election rigging. ADC stated, “The ADC also notes that some of the proposed amendments have introduced new compliance and eligibility requirements that need to be properly understood and met by political parties. Failure to allow sufficient time to understand the provisions of the new law, beyond what is publicly available as proposals, has serious consequences for both political parties and the INEC. Lack of clarity regarding the electoral guidelines would not only serve as booby traps for opposition political parties but also make it difficult for the INEC to prepare adequately and set clear guidelines within the stipulated time. “For example, the provision requiring INEC to publish election notices not later than 360 days before the general election remains extant. The implication is that even now, there is very little room for maneuver. “The ADC therefore calls on the National Assembly to promptly pass the bill. Any further delays pose a serious risk to the integrity of the 2027 general elections and undermine the integrity of the entire electoral process well in advance. Nigeria cannot afford the cost of another acrimonious or dubious election. “The ADC also urges civil society organisations, international partners, and all political parties committed to accountable democratic governance to pressure the National Assembly to act swiftly, as Nigerians cannot afford another election cycle without these critical safeguards in place.” https://punchng.com/adc-warns-delays-in-electoral-bill-threaten-2027-elections/ |

Okpebholo orders LG chairmen to erect 360 campaign billboards for Tinubu’s re-election Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has directed the 18 Local Government chairmen to erect 360 campaign billboards for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reelection across the State. DAILY POST reports that Governor Okpebholo gave the order on Friday, January 30, 2026, during the inauguration of the Edo State chapter of the National Renewed Hope Initiative. The National Renewed Hope Initiative is established to drive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda for Nigerians. Okpebholo said 20 billboards would be erected by each of the Council chairman in their various local government area. He said the erection of the billboard across the 18 Local Government areas is to ensure that the Renewed Hope message of President Tinubu reaches grassroots communities, religious institutions, churches, and mosques. The governor, who commended President Tinubu for reforms in key sectors such as petroleum, security, education, and the economy, opined that it is impossible to replace a performing President. He noted that the President’s bold and courageous reforms are already transforming Nigeria. He, however, urged Edo people to support the President’s return to Aso Rock for a second term. Okpebholo expressed confidence that Edo citizens across all demographics, including the elderly and youths, are ready to mobilise massively for the President. “It is not just about the agenda; it is about the capacity to mobilise. The Edo people are prepared. Nobody can beat Asiwaju’s record in governance. We cannot replace a man who is performing. “With 30 APC governors nationwide, President Tinubu’s re-election campaign is already strengthened. The victory in 2027 is assured. “I want local government chairmen across the 18 LGAs to erect at least 20 billboards each and ensure the Renewed Hope message reaches grassroots communities, religious institutions, churches, and mosques. “The religious groups must hear this message. Churches and mosques must be involved. Religious groups will be inaugurated soon. “I promised Mr President 2.5 million votes. Our party chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, added to it, and the women’s leader also added, and now we have 3.9 million votes. Edo people must deliver on this promise,” he said. Earlier, in his welcome address the Edo State Coordinator of the National Renewed Hope Initiative, Mr Sylvester Aigboboh, inaugurated the Senatorial, Local Government Areas and Youth Coordinators for President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election. Aigboboh who applauded President Tinubu’s bold reforms, stated that they are attracting investors and renewing hope among Nigerians. He noted that the gains from the removal of fuel subsidy are beginning to manifest. He, however, charged the ambassadors to intensify grassroots mobilisation and promote the policies and achievements of President Tinubu’s administration. The State Coordinator of the National Renewed Hope Initiative posited that the inauguration marked the formal activation of a people-driven movement aimed at strengthening party outreach, promoting good governance, and consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda. He described the appointments of the ambassadors as a call to duty, urging the coordinators to serve as effective bridges between government, party leadership, and the grassroots, while fostering unity and inclusiveness within the All Progressives Congress, APC. “The objective of this group is to foster inclusiveness, galvanise grassroots support, and consolidate the gains towards President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” he said, urging members to remain loyal in service to the party and nation”, he added. The appointed three senatorial leaders of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors are Joshua Uwagboe, Hon. Odinose Okojie, and Hon. Abdul Lawani for Edo South, Central and North senatorial districts respectively. The appointees thanked Governor Okpebholo for the confidence reposed in them and pledged to take the campaign message to the grassroots to ensure President Tinubu’s re-election. Eighteen others were inaugurated to coordinate activities across the 18 local government areas, while three youth coordinators were also appointed from the three senatorial districts. https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/31/okpebholo-orders-lg-chairmen-to-erect-360-campaign-billboards-for-tinubus-re-election/ |
Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has once again resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), formally pitching his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Duke registered as an ADC member in Ward 5 of Calabar Municipality, where he collected his party membership card, marking his official entry into the opposition party. His move comes amid recent internal concerns within the ADC in Cross River State. Former ADC governorship candidate, Dr Effiong Nyong, had written to the party’s National Chairman, protesting the inclusion of some individuals from the state in the ADC’s 50 Wise Men and Women Policy Manifesto Committee. Nyong faulted a statement by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, which listed persons who, according to him, neither resigned from the PDP nor made contributions to the ADC, calling for their removal. Political observers believe Duke’s swift formal registration may be linked to the controversy, as the former governor had earlier been named among prominent figures associated with the party. Recall that Duke previously left the PDP for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he emerged as the party’s presidential candidate under controversial circumstances. Meanwhile, ADC leaders in Bakassi Local Government Area have intensified calls on Cross Riverians to identify with the party, describing it as a credible alternative ahead of future elections. Rising from a stakeholders’ meeting involving chapter executives, ward chairmen, and secretaries, party leaders accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of misrule and urged Nigerians to reclaim the country. In a statement signed by the Bakassi Chapter Chairman, Emmanuel Asuquo, and Secretary, Eko Boco, the party reaffirmed its loyalty to the ADC national leadership, pledging support for the National Chairman, Senator David Mark, and National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, while urging undecided citizens to join the party’s “transformative agenda.” https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/30/again-donald-duke-dumps-pdp-formally-joins-adc/ |

No fewer than 160 members of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) are currently in captivity across Kaduna and Kogi states, with their families facing crippling ransom demands, the leadership of the Church has revealed. The disclosure comes as the Church raised alarm over Nigeria’s worsening security situation, following the recent abduction of worshippers in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. In a statement issued by the ECWA President, Rev. Job Bagat, the Church disclosed that “about 100 members from the Kwassam District Church Council, 30 from the Saminaka District Church Council in Kaduna State, and another 30 from the Kabba District Church Council in Kogi State were already being held by kidnappers before the latest incident in Kajuru.” ECWA described the situation as deeply distressing and reflective of the growing insecurity confronting communities across the country. The Church expressed profound concern over what it described as persistent and targeted attacks against Christian communities, clergy and ordinary citizens, noting that such acts constitute a direct assault on constitutional rights to life, worship and security. According to the statement, “ECWA pastors, church workers and members in several states have suffered killings, abductions, displacement and destruction of livelihoods, leaving many communities traumatised and abandoned.” ECWA specifically condemned the abduction of worshippers on Sunday, January 18, 2026, in Kurmin Wali community, Kajuru Local Government Area, describing it as “sacrilegious and barbaric. The armed invasion of churches during worship, which was confirmed by the Nigeria Police Force, is sacrilegious and barbaric, further deepening fear and national anguish,” the statement said. Rev. Bagat noted that the Kajuru attack was part of a broader pattern of violence threatening several ECWA District Church Councils, including Katari and Gidan Waya in Kaduna State; Katsina South in Katsina State; Patigi, Omu-Aran and Ora-Ago in Kwara State; Kabba District in Kogi State; Gwol and Mangu in Plateau State; and Shiroro in Niger State. While acknowledging renewed efforts by the Federal Government and the eventual deployment of security personnel to Kajuru, ECWA expressed grave concern over delays in response, warning that such lapses cost valuable time and embolden criminal networks. The Church stressed that security measures must be proactive, intelligence-driven, sustained and preventive, particularly in vulnerable rural communities. ECWA therefore called on the Federal, State and Local Governments to strengthen intelligence gathering and early-warning systems, ensure swift and effective responses to threats, transparently prosecute perpetrators and their sponsors, and provide adequate protection for places of worship and other soft targets. The Church also urged traditional rulers, community leaders and citizens to promote unity, shared vigilance and peaceful coexistence, while reaffirming its solidarity with all victims of insecurity and its commitment to prayer, peacebuilding, advocacy and practical support for affected communities https://www.vanguardngr.com/2026/01/over-160-church-members-held-by-kidnappers-in-kaduna-kogi/#google_vignette |

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has criticised the economic blueprint unveiled by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Oyebamiji. Governor Adeleke also warned that the proposals could undermine recent economic reforms in the state. In a statement issued by his spokesperson Olawale Rasheed, on Sunday in Osogbo, Adeleke said an assessment of the Oyebamiji’s document showed policy directions that differ sharply from the development framework currently being implemented by his administration. According to the statement, “The Adeleke administration’s strategy is anchored on local content utilisation, grassroots empowerment and reduced tax burdens, while the opposition blueprint allegedly promotes policies that may encourage capital movement outside the state. “Our approach is designed to ensure Osun resources directly benefit Osun residents.” The governor outlined “ongoing initiatives, including artisan and cooperative financing programmes valued at nearly ₦4 billion, enforcement of local content policies in procurement, and the revitalisation of the Osun Digital Economy Hub to boost participation in the global technology sector”. It added that “reforms in tax harmonisation and digitisation have improved internally generated revenue, while the revival of free trade zones and agro-mechanisation programmes has repositioned the state for industrial growth and agricultural expansion”. Responding to similarities between both policy documents, the governor alleged that aspects of the APC blueprint mirrored projects already being executed. “Several elements highlighted by the APC candidate are policies that are currently under implementation by this administration,” the statement noted. Governor Adeleke also referenced recent legislative actions, including the signing of the state electricity law to regulate power generation and distribution. He said implementation processes were ongoing to strengthen energy supply as a foundation for economic development. On regional collaboration, the governor maintained that inter-state partnerships within the South-West were already active, but cautioned against arrangements that could weaken Osun’s local economy. “Any framework that sidelines local content risks reversing hard-earned gains,” the statement said. Adeleke addressed references to the blue economy, pointing to ongoing public-private partnership projects such as the Owala Lake Beach Resort, which he said had been revived after years of neglect, alongside plans to develop other inland water and tourism assets. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining current reforms and warned against policy shifts that could derail progress. “Osun is on a path of inclusive growth and economic stability, and we remain focused on policies that protect and advance these gains,” the statement said https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/25/osun-adeleke-defends-economic-policies-faults-apc-blueprint/ |
Deputy Governor, Others Absent As Yusuf Makes First Public Appearance After NNPP Exit Kano State deputy governor, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, and several officials believed to be loyal to the Kwankwasiyya political movement, were conspicuously absent on Saturday as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made his first major public appearance following his resignation from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), underscoring the deepening political crisis in the state. The occasion was the flag-off of the distribution of motorcycles to social media promoters at the Open Arena of the Government House, Kano. The event attracted top government functionaries and political associates of the governor, but also highlighted visible cracks within the administration. Among those present were the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore; the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Farouq; a former deputy governor of the State and chairman of the Governing Council of Northwest University, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, as well as several commissioners. Commissioners in attendance included Yusuf Labaran (Health), Alhaji Umar Doguwa (Water Resources), Comrade Ibrahim Waiya (Information), and Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud (Agriculture). However, the absence of the deputy governor coincided with the absence of other commissioners widely perceived to be loyal to the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former governor of the State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Those absent included the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Yusuf Kofar Mata; Commissioner for Sports, Mustapha Kwankwaso; Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and the Physically Challenged, Amina HOD; Commissioner for Tourism, Aisha Saji; Commissioner for Internal Security, AVM Ibrahim Umaru (rtd); and the Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa. In a related development, resignations have continued to trail Governor Yusuf’s exit from the NNPP. A former Special Adviser on Political Matters, Sunusi Sirajo, announced his resignation in a video circulated on social media, citing his loyalty to Senator Kwankwaso and describing the governor’s defection as a betrayal. He claimed his resignation letter was earlier rejected by government officials. Other appointees who reportedly resigned included the Provost of the Anti-Corruption Institute, Sumaila Abdullahi Esq; the Managing Director of Kano Zoo, Sadiq Kura Mohammad; and the Senior Special Assistant on Intergovernmental and Foreign Affairs, Abdullahi Ahmad Namama. In a swift response, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, announced the appointment of Mustapha Hamza Buhari as the new Special Adviser on Political Matters https://leadership.ng/deputy-governor-others-absent-as-yusuf-makes-first-public-appearance-after-nnpp-exit/

2027: Tinubu planning to remove Shettima, replace with sitting gov – Primate Ayodele The Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is planning to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima, ahead of the presidential election in 2027. In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele reiterated his warning to Tinubu not to make use of a muslim-muslim ticket, stating that the disobedience is leading to the removal of the vice president from office. He, however, warned that if the VP is removed acrimoniously, it will affect the party because Shettima will work against the interests of the party. Ayodele said: “I warned Tinubu of a Muslim-Muslim ticket, but most people didn’t listen. If Shettima is removed acrimoniously, he will work against the interest of the party because they are contemplating picking a governor to replace Shettima as vice president.” Likewise, he advised President Tinubu against making use of any of the governors who decamped to the party because it could cause aggression in the north. “If any of the crossing governors is picked from the north, this will cause aggression in the north,” he said. Speaking further, Primate Ayodele said: “Tinubu is working and doing well, but two things are fighting him, which are nemesis and betrayal. “People who are applauding him are looking for his downfall; money can’t buy it at all. Some of his aides are also blocking access to him for those who can actually help him. “On insecurity, no matter the security formation you put together, the US doesn’t like your government, and they know where to puncture this government because they already know the secret of your security.” https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/25/2027-tinubu-planning-to-remove-shettima-replace-with-sitting-gov-primate-ayodele/ |

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed speculations about a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, saying he remains comfortable in the party despite recent political realignments. Makinde made this known after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, where he was asked about reports that some PDP governors and leaders had defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Responding to the question on whether he was considering a move to the APC, the governor said he had no such plans, stressing that his loyalty to the PDP remains intact. “I’m comfortable in the PDP,” Makinde said. “Again, we may have issues in this country where a bipartisan approach is required. It shouldn’t be a situation where only the APC is talking or only the PDP is talking. We must look at what puts our best foot forward in the interest of our nation.” He added that when national interest is at stake, cooperation across party lines becomes necessary. “At that point, you need everybody on board,” he noted. The governor’s comments suggest a willingness to engage in bipartisan dialogue at the national level, while firmly maintaining his political base within the Peoples Democratic Party and rejecting any immediate move to the All Progressives Congress. DAILY POST earlier reported that Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday. Makinde arrived shortly after his colleague from Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, who recently left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arrived at the State House https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/22/i-am-comfortable-in-pdp-makinde-declares-after-meeting-tinubu/ |

The Nigeria Police Force has said that it is still collating names of the victims of the mass abduction in Kaduna State. Speaking during an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST on Wednesday, the Force spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin said the police will update Nigerians when they have more information. He said, “We are still collating names, but we have an estimate. This is an investigation that is actively ongoing. “It’s not like we have CCTV camera in that place that can tell us what happened. The moment we have further information, we will update Nigerians. “But for emphasis, we can confirm that the incident happened and we have deployed all our resources there. “In fact, Today we mobilised one of our helicopters to go there for air surveillance. That’s how seriously we are taking it. “The IGP gave that directive this morning. Also the Commissioner of Police had to go there to supervise things himself.” https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/21/kaduna-abduction-were-still-collating-names-of-victims-police/ |
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, has said that the APC-led Federal Government did not promise Nigerians instant miracles, insisting that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is implementing gradual but significant changes. Oshiomhole made the remarks on Wednesday while fielding questions on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme. According to him, although the Tinubu administration has been in office for about two and a half years, noticeable changes are occurring daily as a result of ongoing reforms. He argued that critics who previously demanded a departure from old approaches are now questioning the government for adopting a radically different path. Oshiomhole said the president is not merely reforming the system but undertaking far-reaching and fundamental changes aimed at correcting long-standing structural problems. He maintained that the administration should be judged based on the direction and substance of its policies rather than expectations of immediate outcomes, stressing that meaningful change requires time. Oshiomhole said: “We did not promise miracles. In two and a half years of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, every day there is something changing. “And like I said, this is a society in which people like Peter Obi will say, ‘you can’t keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different outcome.’ “Okay, now Tinubu is doing something totally different, not just reforming, but radically reforming. And then you say, ‘Why is he reforming?’” https://dailypost.ng/2026/01/21/we-never-promised-miracles-oshiomhole-defends-tinubus-reforms/ |
Tinubu did not come to provide good governance. Instead, he came to promote ethnic bigotry and tribal hatred. First, it was IPOB. Then came the claim that it was Igbo secessionists exaggerating claims of Christian genocide. This was followed by another claim that it was Biafra secessionists. Most recently, there was the claim that an Igbo trader in Onitsha market provided intelligence to Trump to bomb northern Nigeria. Given all this, it is not surprising that many people question why the Tinubu administration appears so fixated on the Igbo ethnic group. What, exactly, did the Igbos do to Tinubu, his family, or the APC? |
......To Jerusalem SaharaReporters gathered that the pilgrimage is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has sponsored the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), seven Heads of Department, and 27 Electoral Officers on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. SaharaReporters gathered that the pilgrimage is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. Multiple sources within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed to SaharaReporters on Monday that the officials would depart Imo State for Jerusalem as part of this sponsored religious trip. According to the sources, the delegation is set to gather at the Government House Chapel by noon on Tuesday, where prayers and formal send-off activities will be held before their departure. "The Rec, 7 Heads of Department, 27 Electoral Officers will leave Imo State for Jerusalem tomorrow by 10pm for pilgrimage, sponsored by Hope Uzodimma," a source said. Following the gathering at the chapel, the 27 Electoral Officers will proceed to the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, at approximately 3 pm. The group is then scheduled to depart for Jerusalem at 10 pm the same day, marking the start of their sacred journey. "They will assemble at Government House Chapel by 12 noon tomorrow, then proceed to Imo airport around 3pm, depart for Jerusalem by 10pm," another source added. Political or electoral patronage is common in Nigeria. On December 3, 2025, SaharaReporters reported that president Bola Tinubu has presented a set of luxury vehicles, including a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser Jeep, a Toyota Hilux, and a Hummer bus, to each state coordinator of a new political mobilisation structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. Multiple sources confirmed to SaharaReporters that the vehicles were handed over under the platform known as the Renewed Hope Ambassadors. The group is a nationwide campaign network spearheaded and fully coordinated by Imo State Governor, Uzodimma. According to the sources, the presentation took place in Abuja, where state coordinators gathered to receive the vehicles and instructions regarding funding for the 2027 presidential campaign. “Each of the states was told to contribute N1billion to the purse of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors for Asiwaju’s 2027 campaign,” one of the sources said. “Governor Uzodimma is the Director General, and everything was done under his supervision.” Another source revealed that Tinubu’s public endorsement of Uzodimma as the face of the Renewed Hope campaign was deliberate and tied to this new mobilisation structure. “Do you know that the President purposely announced Governor Uzodimma as the Renewed Hope Ambassador for the Asiwaju 2027 campaign? This is not accidental. The vehicles are part of the political machinery being put in place,” the source added. One of the sources told SaharaReporters that the timing of the luxury car donations showed a deep disconnect between the federal government and the lived realities of ordinary Nigerians. A top insider expressed shock that such resources were being deployed for political preparation rather than security reinforcement. https://saharareporters.com/2026/01/19/breaking-governor-hope-uzodimma-sponsors-imo-rec-27-electoral-officers-pilgrimage |
.....Atiku, northerners Mr Okechukwu said Mr Abubakar did not have the interest and unity of Nigeria at heart if he decided to contest against the turn of the south. A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Osita Okechukwu, has urged Nigerians, especially northern politicians, to allow President Bola Tinubu to finish his second term. Mr Okechukwu, a former director-general of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), made the call during the flagging off of the APC e-registration at Eke Ward in the Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State on Saturday. He noted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would be presumed the winner of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primaries and urged him to adhere to the Nigerian presidency’s zoning and rotational formula. Speaking after his registration, the party chieftain endorsed Mr Tinubu for a second term, calling on Mr Abubakar to allow him to complete his second tenure before power rotated to the north. “By the time Tinubu finishes in 2031, any southerner who is coming for president, we will not allow the person because it will be the turn of the north,” he said. Mr Okechukwu said Mr Abubakar did not have the interest and unity of Nigeria at heart if he decided to contest against the turn of the south. He explained that Mr Abubakar benefited from the same rotation in 1999, when he became the vice president under President Olusegun Obasanjo. “If not for good faith, restraint, and self-censorship, Alhaji Abubakar Rimi, Umaru Shinkafi, Adamu Ciroma, and Bukola Saraki were all qualified by any standard but conceded power to the south. “This was how Abubakar became vice president under Obasanjo,” he said. He disclosed that the origin of rotation began in Switzerland in 1848, and it was based on the principle that individuals should place the unity of their country first, with equity and a sense of belonging for every group. “Other countries practiced it in one variant or the other, but for us, after the military coup and the long reign of the military regime in Nigeria, some Nigerian patriots came together. “Their conclusion was that the only place to shift power was the South, and also to please Abiola and his followers, was to do a rotation convention whereby it would be the turn of the South, after which the north takes over. “And that was exactly what happened because from 1999 to 2007, the South finished and handed over to a northerner,” he said. He recalled that in 2003, Mr Abubakar breached the same zoning arrangement that brought the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into crisis, killing the party. “So to sustain economic reforms of Tinubu, Nigeria’s democracy, and the peace of the country, the south under Tinubu should be allowed to complete their eight years in power,” he stressed. Mr Okechukwu said the economy was bouncing back, expressing optimism that Nigerians would see more gains from the reform in Tinubu’s second term https://gazettengr.com/2027-respect-power-rotation-let-tinubu-finish-second-term-apc-chieftain-tells-atiku-northerners/ |

Burob:Calling this a question for individual state government is either disingenuous or a misunderstanding of Nigeria’s governance structure. The eight-point agenda is President Tinubu’s federal agenda, not a state government manifesto. He campaigned on it nationally, was elected nationally, and is being assessed nationally. |
jamesversion:That’s the wrong question. The issue isn’t whether the ADC stands a chance without an Atiku/Obi ticket; it’s whether any election conducted under Tinubu in 2027 will be credible at all, or remembered as one of the worst and most compromised elections in Nigeria’s history. When state institutions are openly bent to serve the ruling party, the problem is no longer the opposition’s candidates but the integrity of the entire electoral process. |
AMINDA:This is reminiscent of the behavior of unpopular, despotic, sit-tight leaders across Africa and the rest of the world. Such leaders manipulate every available means, weaponizing state institutions like the electoral body and the judiciary, to crush opposition and entrench themselves in power, ensuring they remain unchallenged. It has long been foretold that Tinubu is on a deliberate path to becoming Nigeria’s Paul Biya.
