....Over NADECO Links Marwa says military leaders wanted Tinubu blocked as Lagos governor over NADECO ties, but he insisted on a free election. Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (rtd) has disclosed that the military hierarchy never wanted President Bola Tinubu to become the governor of Lagos State because of his connected to pro-democracy group, National Democratic Coalition (NADECO). Marwa who admonished Nigerians to always remember that the country’s diversity is not a burden but a gift and a trust that must be safeguarded by all, said he took the pain to conduct a free and fair election in Lagos where the current president emerged the governor. Marwa made the revelation on Saturday in Abuja, while delivering the keynote address at the public presentation of a book: Buni Boy, written by late legal luminary Niyi Ayoola-Daniels. According to him, “Today holds a special significance for me due to the profound and compelling nature of this gathering. What moves me most is not only the book itself but also the life of its author and what that life represents. It speaks to the unity and strength woven through our diversity as Nigerians. To many people, the author’s narrative may seem distant, almost unreal, as if drawn from another world. Yet those of us who grew up in the 1960s know it as lived truth. “The experience captured in the narrative mirrors the country we once walked through with unguarded hearts. “The story stirs my memories and reminds me of a time when life was plain in its blessings and people showed more kindness in their daily dealings. “This evening, I am not here to retell the story, for it stands strong on its own. Instead, I will reflect on its core theme, to remind Nigerians of this era that our diversity is not a burden but a gift and a trust we must safeguard. “I have long been an advocate of unity in diversity and of the strength that rises from it. Hence, today’s occasion provides me an opportunity to further amplify the message. The Nigeria of my youth understood its own diversity, even in the troubled days of the 1960s when the civil war raged through this country. I recall my teenage years at the Nigeria Military School, NMS Zaria, where the pupils came from diverse ethnic backgrounds. “It was never a school for northern boys alone. No, not a school for Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri, Tiv or Idoma. It was a school for all ethnic groups in Nigeria. Whether you speak Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo, we regarded ourselves as kin. Our teachers reflected the same broad mix. For instance, from 1966 to 1970, the Commandant of the NMS was a Yoruba officer, Col. T. B. Ogundeko, of blessed memory. We didn’t see him as a Yoruba man. We saw a Nigerian, a man with whom we have a shared identity. “Before attending NMS, however, I had my primary education across four cities: Zaria, Enugu, Abeokuta, and Lagos. This was the result of my father’s mobile life as a soldier. Living in different sociocultural settings taught me early that people of other tongues and traditions are still my own. That truth has stayed with me ever since. “The Nigerian Army, where I served for over 30 years, is built on a foundation of unity, and the ideal of one Nigeria shapes its work. That experience only strengthened my conviction. As an officer, I served across the country and built bonds that cut through the artificial barriers created by our sociocultural differences. In the army, intermarriage and close fellowship pushed us to look past ethnic lines and stand together as one. “On a personal note, my life has taught me that the diversity of this country enriches us. It sharpens our understanding of one another. It strengthens the fabric of our shared existence. It unites far more than it divides, whatever the voices of doubt may say today. “In my private and professional life, I have always embraced the full breadth of Nigeria’s diversity. My friends come from every corner of the country. I have worked with people of every ethnicity. The people around me, even today, reflect the wide spectrum of our multiethnic nation. The chieftaincy titles I hold, more than 30 in number, show that same reach. Even my own family reflects our national mix. “Wherever I stand in this country, whether among the Ogoni, or Bachama, among Igbo or Idoma, anywhere at all, I am at home.” Marwa recalled that as Military Administrator of Lagos state, the Yoruba people showed him great love and supported his administration despite their hostility to the government at the federal level then. He said the support he received from Lagos encouraged him to conduct a free and fair election that brought his successor to office. He said: “Even though the Head of State then Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar did not interfere in my conduct of the governorship election, the military hierarchy did. After seeing the then Senator Bola Tinubu’s strong campaign and popularity, the military hierarchy instructed me to prevent him from emerging governor because of his pro-democracy activism in NADECO against the military government then but I chose to conduct a free and fair election that produced the most popular candidate as governor of Lagos state. The rest today is history.” Marwa said Nigeria may have its peculiar challenges because of how poorly its diversity has been managed over the years, “but these difficulties cannot justify any idea of tearing the nation apart”, adding that “our challenges should instead push us to repair the fault lines and pursue greater inclusion.” Speaking on the book, Marwa commended the widow of the author, Mrs Leticia Ayoola-Daniels for keeping her late husband’s memory alive. “Barrister Niyi Ayoola-Daniels is no longer with us, but his legacy lives on. The Buni Yadi Foundation keeps his ideals alive. I must say that the real-life story told in the book resonates deeply with me. This is not only because I once served as the military governor of the old Borno, where Buni Yadi was then located, but also because I have met the family of the noble Alkali, the judge whose sense of duty anchors the book and shaped the author’s life. It is also because the transformation of an eighteen-year-old boy in the 1960s and the wisdom of a judge who held firmly to justice reflect the very heart of the Nigerian spirit.” https://www.arise.tv/marwa-military-hierarchy-tried-to-stop-tinubu-from-becoming-lagos-governor-over-nadeco-links/ |
PDP demands withdrawal of Tinubu’s ambassadorial list, rejects Yakubu’s nomination The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the recently released list of ambassadorial nominees, raising strong objections to the inclusion of the immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu. In a statement on Saturday by the PDP spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, the party described the list of 32 nominees as “scandalous,” insisting that the nomination of Yakubu was particularly troubling. “Specifically, we convey the disappointment of many right-thinking Nigerians over the nomination of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the immediate past Chairman of INEC, whose tenure was characterised by double-speak, policy flip-flops, and unmet promises, culminating in the emergence of this administration, which is struggling in all areas of governance,” the PDP said. “To offer him an ambassadorial appointment at a time like this is a clear example of a skewed reward system. We strongly suspect it is intended as an incentive to the new INEC Chairman to deliver another flawed election in 2027 in anticipation of similar rewards. This is absolutely scandalous and completely unacceptable.” The party further criticised the ambassadorial list, claiming it featured several “disgraced propagandists, character-deficient politicians, and public officials widely viewed negatively by Nigerians and the international community for their integrity deficits and anti-democratic conduct.” The PDP described the development as a “sad commentary” on Nigeria’s diplomatic representation. “It is very reprehensible and scandalous,” the statement continued. “By making these nominations, the President has shown Nigerians that these are the best people he has to represent our country abroad. The fact that it took the President almost three years to produce this list speaks to the paucity of excellent people within his reach.” President Tinubu had earlier on Saturday forwarded the list of 32 career and non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation. https://www.westernpost.ng/pdp-demands-withdrawal-of-tinubus-ambassadorial-list-rejects-yakubus-nomination/ |

Tinubu gives a directive, and those who are expected to carry it out flout it with a bold face. Tinubu sees that his directive has been flaunted yet moves on as if nothing has happened. It is obvious that Tinubu is not in charge of his government. In fact, Tinubu’s regime is the most lawless in the history of this country. |

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has cautioned the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, against worrying about his political choices, stressing that it should be more concerned about the true identity and age of its leaders. Atiku said the APC in Lagos State showed hypocrisy, selective amnesia, and intellectual laziness by mocking him over his decision to officially join the African Democratic Congress, ADC. In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Atiku insisted that his political relevance is not in question. According to Atiku: “The attention of the Atiku Media Office has been drawn to yet another hollow, ill-considered statement issued by the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), wherein its spokesman, Seye Oladejo, attempted to mock former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC). As usual, the Lagos APC displayed its trademark hypocrisy, selective amnesia, and intellectual laziness. “For the avoidance of doubt, Atiku Abubakar’s political journey is public, transparent, and fully documented. His age is known, his parents are known, his educational records are intact, and his public life can be traced from childhood to national prominence without the need for forensic experts, private investigators, or sworn affidavits to reconcile conflicting identities. “This already places him miles ahead of their paymaster who—by all reasonable public evidence—is well past 90, yet insists on clinging to power and is already scheming for a second term. If Atiku, a far healthier, mentally sharper, and globally respected statesman, is “too old” to aspire at 79, then what do we call a visibly frail leader whose true age remains one of the country’s best-kept mysteries? “The APC cannot, on one hand, enable a man who has switched names, ages, origins, and educational histories, yet on the other hand attack Atiku for making strategic political moves within a democratic system. Party mobility is not a crime; identity fraud is. “Atiku’s decision to collaborate with the ADC is driven by conviction, nation-building, and a shared democratic vision—not desperation. Only those accustomed to treating political parties as private estates will find such collaboration confusing.” He charged the Lagos APC to stop pretending to be concerned about Nigeria’s future, noting that their real fear is simple and understandable. The statement added: “Atiku Abubakar remains the single most formidable, experienced, and prepared leader in the country today. His moral stamina, political clarity, and national acceptance continue to expose the emptiness of the APC’s propaganda and the illegitimacy of the regime they serve.” He said If the APC is looking for a man defined by “restlessness, panic, and desperation,” they need not look far. “He is in the Villa—struggling to govern, struggling to appear coherent, and struggling to convince Nigerians that he is the age he claims to be. “Rather than issuing unintelligent statements, the Lagos APC should direct its energy toward explaining the collapsing economy, the insecurity consuming the country, the hardship imposed on citizens, and the human suffering that has become the lasting legacy of their party,” he added https://dailypost.ng/2025/11/27/ignore-my-political-choices-worry-about-age-of-your-leaders-atiku-replies-apc/ |
Tinubu is taking credit for negotiating with the terrorists, bandits, and kidnappers, as well as for paying the ransom they demanded, which resulted in the release of the abductees. |
Government could not rescue schoolgirls, they negotiated with us – Bandits reveal in new video A new video has surfaced showing that the Nigerian government and the bandits who abducted the Kebbi schoolgirls negotiated and arrived at a deal before the girls were set free. Recall that some kidnapped students of Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State, were released on Tuesday with the government claiming that no ransom was paid before their release. But a video has surfaced online revealing that the government had negotiated with the abductors before the girls were set free. In the clip shared by @AM_Saleeem on X, one of the armed men is heard questioning the schoolgirls about military aircraft that flew over the forest during their captivity. Worsening insecurity: Pressure mounts for establishment of state police He asks how many jets passed above them, and the girls respond, “uncountable.” The kidnapper then boasts that the authorities could not rescue the students by force and had to negotiate. The abductors also asked the girls about their condition in captivity. “Did we leave you hungry?” one bandit asked. Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know Wednesday morning “No,” the girls replied. “Were you assaulted in any way?” he asked again. “No,” they answered. Another kidnapper told them, “We will take you back home safe to your parents, we are doing this based on peace deals.” He also mocked the government again, asking, “How many helicopters did you see hover around?” The students replied that they could not count them. At the end of the video, one of the abductors declared, “We are letting you go after negotiations. Your government cannot rescue you with might. Your government has failed.” The footage appeared shortly after Kebbi State governor, Nasir Idris and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, announced that all abducted students had been freed. The girls, who were kidnapped after armed men stormed their school and killed the vice-principal, were later seen smiling inside a bus as officials prepared to transport them to Birnin Kebbi, the state capital. Authorities have said the students will be handed over to their parents today (Wednesday). https://dailypost.ng/2025/11/26/government-could-not-rescue-schoolgirls-they-negotiated-with-us-bandits-reveal-in-new-video/ |
The party described the courts overseen by these judges as “courts of particular concern” in matters affecting PDP interests. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally expressed concerns over the assignment of its legal cases at the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division, urging the Chief Judge to ensure that future matters involving the party are not assigned to specific judges. In a letter dated November 19, 2025, addressed to Honourable Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, the PDP, through its National Secretary, Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, raised apprehensions that all cases filed by or against the party in recent years have consistently been assigned to three judges: Hon. Justice James Omotosho, Hon. Justice Peter Odo Lifu, and Hon. Justice Abdulmalik. The letter noted that while the Abuja Division has 12 judges, only these three have been handling PDP-related matters, prompting complaints from several party members. The party described the courts overseen by these judges as “courts of particular concern” in matters affecting PDP interests. The PDP’s communication emphasized that justice must not only be delivered but also be perceived as fair by the public and party members. It said, “Even though there are other Judges numbering up to nine in the Abuja Judicial Division, who could have taken up any of these matters, as the Abuja Division has 12 Judges. “Several of our Party members have recently complained bitterly to the newly- elected members of the National Working Committee and the National Executive Committee of the above-mentioned scenario. Indeed, all these three Courts are viewed by party members and indeed the public as 'courts of particular concern' with regard to matters pertaining to or affecting the interest of the Peoples Democratic Party.” Given the current political climate and the likelihood of additional cases being filed, the party requested that no future PDP-related matters be assigned to the three judges mentioned. The letter clarified that the PDP holds no doubt regarding the integrity of the judiciary and praised the Federal High Court, Abuja, under Justice Tsoho’s leadership, for its overall fairness in dispensing justice https://saharareporters.com/2025/11/25/pdp-writes-chief-judge-seeks-bar-three-judges-handling-party-cases |

Fear has gripped very important persons, VIPs, in the country, following directives by President Bola Tinubu that police escorts currently providing security for them be withdrawn. Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, had said in a statement Sunday that, henceforth, police authorities would deploy them to concentrate on their core police duties, adding that VI’s who needed police protection would now request well-armed personnel from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC. Based on this development, police sources said the affected VIPs had been inundating police headquarters with calls seeking more clarifications over the development and expressing fears, based on the prevailing security situation in the country. According to the sources, their major concern is the ability of the NSCDC personnel to adequately protect them. One of them was quoted as saying it would be very difficult for personnel of the civil defence corps to render the services they required because of their training and equipment. “He told us that it will be like engaging boys scouts to protect them as the mobile policemen they normally engage are more agile and battle-ready to confront any situation,” a source said. Another VIP told Vanguard: “The practice of providing police escorts to high ranking officers and VIP’s has become a major feature of the security landscape in Nigeria but it must be noted that as the country grapples with growing security concerns, the use of police personnel for VIP protection has raised significant questions about its broader implications on public safety and the overall effectiveness of the police force.” He called for rationalisation of the exercise to serve the purpose, rather than a blanket stoppage which, according to him, will increase the prevailing fears of insecurity in the society. “The justification behind this practice often rests on the high-profile nature of individuals involved, the perceived threat to their safety, and the desire to project power and influence. ‘’While these measures are meant to offer security for influential figures, the broader implication is that they come at a high cost to the public, both in terms of the security resources diverted and the moral perception of a system that favours the few over the many,’’ he said. However, a serving police officer who pleaded anonymity, told Vanguard that the fundamental question that arose was whether the allocation of police officers to VIPs compromised the ability of the police to respond effectively to criminal activities within communities. “In a country grappling with a wide range of security threats, including insurgencies, armed robberies, kidnappings, and communal violence, the use of law enforcement personnel to safeguard individuals who can afford private security is a cause for concern,” the officer said. He also revealed that the growing demand for VIP protection significantly impacted the distribution of resources across the force. “Police patrol teams in certain areas are often understaffed, and response times to distress calls are prolonged as a result of the overwhelming number of officers assigned to VIP duties. In some cases, police officers are redirected from high-crime areas to provide convoy escorts, leaving already vulnerable communities to fend for themselves,’’ he added. A source within Force’s headquarters in Abuja said “we have several cases where a unit is deployed for an entire day to protect a governor or a businessman, and that leaves their assigned zones with fewer officers to patrol. ‘’It is a major logistical challenge, and it undermines the overall effectiveness of policing.” A human rights activist, Tony Udemmadu, in his comment, stated: “The most concerning aspect of VIP police escorts is their potential to undermine public trust in law enforcement. The Nigerian public increasingly perceives the practice as a symbol of inequality. ‘’While the elite enjoy protection and attention from the police, ordinary Nigerians often find themselves facing mounting insecurity without sufficient resources or support from the police. “In regions plagued by violent crimes, such as the Niger Delta or the Northeast, the absence of visible police presence due to escort assignments exacerbates the already precarious situation for citizens.” When Vanguard called Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, over the number of police personnel involved, modalities for the withdrawal and the date of take off, he promised to get back to our reporter but at press time, he was yet to send a reply. VIP police withdrawal mere drama, not strategy — ADC Meanwhile, African Democratic Congress, ADC, has lashed out at President Bola Tinubu over his directive withdrawing police officers from VIP protection, describing the move as political theatre that does little to address Nigeria’s deepening security crisis. The party warned that the administration appears more focused on optics than on developing a real strategy to confront terrorism, banditry, and mass abductions. In a statement by the party’s spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the government’s repeated reliance on the same tactic showed a worrying lack of understanding of the complexity of the country’s security challenges. “While the directive makes for good headlines, it is not new and demonstrates the government’s lack of understanding of the true nature and complexity of Nigeria’s worsening security crisis. ‘’A country battling terrorism, banditry, mass abductions, and violent crime cannot afford to confuse public relations for policy,” Abdullahi said. The ADC noted that this was not the first time such an instruction had been issued, recalling that in 2025 alone, similar orders were announced twice by the Inspector-General of Police, apparently on presidential directive, without any tangible results. “To start with, this is not the first time we are hearing this from the APC government. In 2025 alone, such order has been given twice by the IGP, whom we believe was acting on the directive of the President. But nothing happened,” the party noted. Abdullahi argued that even if the latest directive was fully implemented, it still missed the broader point; that the police, by their current training and orientation, were not equipped to take on the scale and sophistication of Nigeria’s security emergencies. “Nevertheless, even if the President succeeds in relieving the police of VIP duties, we must face the bigger concern that by their training, mentality and orientation, these policemen are ill-suited and ill-equipped for the desperate emergency that we face,” he declared. The ADC also questioned the government’s claim that the withdrawal would free up 100,000 officers for frontline security duties, insisting that the issue was not about numbers but capability. While noting that even the military was struggling against the evolving tactics of insurgents, Abdullahi said: “The government claims that this announcement would add 100,000 men to the police. While this may fill some gaps in numerical strength, the real problem is not the number. ‘’It is the fact that even our military are finding it difficult to cope with the sophistication and adaptability of the insurgents, not to talk of police men who are ill equipped, ill trained and ill motivated for the complex task of counter-insurgency.’’ https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/11/withdrawal-of-escorts-fear-grips-vips-as-police-plan-modalities/ |

Max24:In your futile attempt to mock Peter Obi about managing finances, a man who left no debt after governing Anambra state for 8 years, you conveniently skip over the long-standing public knowledge concerning Tinubu and the Lagos State treasury. For over two decades, Tinubu have managed Lagos finances by constructing a notorious conduit pipe between the state coffers and his private interests, siphoning and milking the commonwealth of Lagosians while leaving behind massive debts. So before you talk about who couldn’t manage what, maybe confront the fact that your Tinubu turned Lagos into a personal ATM for over twenty years and counting. |
Max24:Typical Agbadoo reasoning. Imagine comparing George Bush’s invasion of Iraq to Tinubu failing to secure Nigerians in the country, that’s exactly why the country is like this. As for Anambra, Soludo is governor today because Peter Obi built the foundation that made the state the safest in the South-East for years. |
We know why you are joining the APC, many believe you have collected your share of the N250 billion. This has nothing to do with the interest of the people; it is about your personal interest |
Mr. President, you don’t just monitor, you should be on the front line, Sir. Under your watch, the country is witnessing its worst security crisis since independence |
The Lagos template used to funnel and siphon the commonwealth of Lagosians for over two decades into Tinubu’s private interests is now being nationalised. At the end of Tinubu’s regime, the kind of mind-blowing corruption and brazen looting of our commonwealth that I believe that will be uncovered and unearthed will surely cause an earthquake that would shake the very foundation of this country. |
Thousands of Nigerians have been wrongly convicted and jailed across the country in a system defined by official indifference to innocence and error. There are many innocent people in Nigerian jails today than anywhere in the world. The numbers reveal an unreliable system of criminal justice. A system that is bedeviled by lack of accountability for police and prosecutors. A system known for reliance on junk data of evidence, mistaken identity and fake eyewitnesses contribute greatly to wrongful convictions that have ruined the lives of innocent citizens. Our criminal justice system relies on fabricating evidence, false testimony, and refusal to consider proof of innocence. Nigeria’s sickening criminal justice system ensures miscarriage of justice. Our double standard justice system is based on different rules to different people: One for the Nnamdi Kanus of the world and another for the Boko Haram and Fulani terrorists of the world. Nigerians who have been following the trajectory of Kanu’s trial are not surprised that he was sentenced to life jail. The outcome of the trial was predictable from the outset. If one fairly assessed the legitimacy of Nnamdi Kanu’s verdict, you will see that Nigeria’s criminal justice system is rotten to its core. Nigeria’s criminal justice system is a ranging dumpster fire of injustice that’s capable of igniting the fuse of unrest and violence. What makes Kanu’s sentencing galling is the fact that Boko Haram and Fulani terrorists are on killing spree all over the country with government approval and appeasement of security agencies. The terrorists are not arrested. They are not detained. They are not charged with any crime. Rather, they are given special choices in terms of protection and provisions that wipe off all their crimes: rehabilitation, repentance, and reformation. All these options were not available to Kanu. To the government and justice James Omotosho who sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment, Boko Haram and Fulani terrorists are not “tyrants” and do not constitute danger to a free society. The double standard in our criminal justice system is too obvious to ignore. The system is lenient to the terrorists. They are protected and preserved. The harsher justice meted to Kanu shows that our justice system operates on unequal penalties, inconsistent enforcement of laws, biased application of legal principles and denial of equal protections or recourse. Kanu is a victim of unequal justice. Kanu’s sentencing amplifies biased enforcement of criminal law. It demonstrates biased rigorous enforcement of laws to people who look like Kanu. The terrorists are held to lower standard. Their actions, atrocities, crimes do not invite the wrath of the law. Instead, it serves as an incentive for them to hunt down innocent Nigerians. The wider consequences of unequal justice meted to Kanu cannot be over stressed. When justice is not upheld, people lose faith in leadership and institutions. It leads to distrust and disillusionment. It leads to lawlessness. A sense of injustice can fuel anger and frustration. It translates to higher crime rates, social unrest, and rebellion. Nigeria is where there is no justice. Where there is no justice, there is no peace. With the current state of affairs in Nigeria, we are all witnesses of no justice, no peace. https://saharareporters.com/2025/11/23/oped-nnamdi-kanu-victim-unequal-justice-bayo-oluwasanmi |
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has asked President Bola Tinubu to seek local and international help to end insecurity in Nigeria or resign honourably. Fractional National Publicity Secretary of the party, Ini Ememobong, made this call in a statement on Sunday. The party urged the government to develop a comprehensive plan to combat the issue, instead of resorting to a simplistic approach of closing schools in a bid to prevent further kidnappings and to score cheap political points. It said that under the APC-led Tinubu administration, Nigerians have witnessed, a spate of kidnappings in different states in Northern Nigeria. According to the party, each of the kidnappings left a trail of sorrows, tears, blood, fear, and deep anguish on the families of those affected and their communities. It further said that in response to the wave of insecurity, different state governments in the affected region have taken desperate measures, while the federal government has yet to give any direction. “We are aware that the closure of schools in these areas is already being implemented by some state governments and is currently being contemplated by the Federal Government. “We warn that this closure, if undertaken, like many of this administration’s quick-fix approaches to serious governance issues, will amount to a complete surrender to terrorists, whose sole aim is to shut down schools and prevent children from obtaining formal education, which they declare forbidden. “If the schools are closed, the goal of the terrorists would have been inadvertently achieved. “More troubling is the fact that when these unfortunate incidents happen, the administration’s response is usually lacklustre and unempathetic. “We charge the Federal Government to immediately fund and implement the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools anchored on community intelligence and quick security response, capable of anticipating and contending with attacks on schools. “We again remind the President, Bola Tinubu and the entire APC-led administration that the security of lives and property is the primary function of any government. At any time, government is unwilling, unable, or incapable of executing this primary role, such a government, must either ask for help (locally or internationally) or honourably resign, if it is sincere and responsible,” the statement said. https://dailypost.ng/2025/11/23/insecurity-ask-for-help-or-resign-pdp-tells-tinubu/ |
Former President Goodluck Jonathan says his membership in the West African Elders Forum is one of the reasons for his recent absence from politics. He, however, noted that Nigerian politics is a business of rascals “that they play in the motor park” Jonathan gave this explanation in Abuja, while speaking at an event marking the 10th anniversary of the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, with the theme ‘Legacy of Impact, Celebrating Our Journey’. The event also included a gala dinner to mark Mr Jonathan’s 68th birthday. Mr Jonathan, who apparently was explaining to his associates why he hasn’t been involved in active politics, said that WAEF membership comes with a strict condition of non-partisanship. He explained that the forum is a preventive diplomacy initiative composed of former heads of state who visit countries within the sub-region during election periods to mediate and prevent crises arising from poorly managed elections. “The idea is, yes, we observe the elections, but we are not co-observers. We go there to make sure that if we notice anything that is coming up negatively, we intervene and try to see what we could do so that those issues will not snowball into a full crisis. The condition to be a member of the WAEF is that you must be a former president within the sub-region and a former president of ECOWAS. “One clear condition is that you will no longer be an active politician, and that is why I am disappointing most of my political associates. They expect me to play an active role in politics, but before I play an active role in politics, I will first and foremost resign from the WAEF,” Mr Jonathan said. Speaking on the state of the nation, Mr Jonathan decried what he termed “rascality” in politics, charging politicians to conduct themselves with decorum and a sense of responsibility. He said that, unlike other professions such as teaching, which require training and certification, individuals often enter politics and assume leadership positions without basic training. “We must change the face of politics. We must see politics as a business of responsible individuals, not a business of rascals that they play in the motor park,” he said. https://gazettengr.com/nigerian-politics-is-business-of-rascals-as-they-do-in-motor-parks-goodluck-jonathan/ |
Niger State Abduction Toll Rises To 315 As Fresh Search Reveals More Missing Pupils SaharaReporters had reported that terrorists invaded the school in the early hours of Friday, initially seizing 215 pupils and 12 teachers. The number of pupils and students abducted from St Mary’s Private Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State has risen to 315, according to the state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). SaharaReporters had reported that terrorists invaded the school in the early hours of Friday, initially seizing 215 pupils and 12 teachers. However, following a detailed verification exercise, school authorities discovered that 88 additional students who were earlier presumed safe had also been captured while attempting to flee. This brings the total number of abducted students to 303, alongside the 12 teachers — four women and eight men — taken during the attack. The updated figures were disclosed on Saturday by CAN chairman in Niger State, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, through his media aide, Daniel Atori. “At first, we believed that some children had escaped,” the Bishop said. “But after parents began asking questions and we conducted a full census, we realised 88 more students were unaccounted for. That raised the number of abducted students to 303.” He also clarified that neither the school management nor the National Association of Private Schools received any formal or informal warning from the government or security agencies regarding potential threats prior to the attack. “Contrary to rumours, no circular or advisory was issued to us. Any claim to the contrary appears to be an attempt to shift blame,” he stated. “The school is owned by the Catholic Diocese. No Reverend Sisters travelled to Abuja as speculated. Anyone making such claims should provide proof.” St Mary’s currently has an enrolment of 629 students — 430 in the primary section and 199 in the secondary. Bishop Yohanna called for calm and assured that the church is working closely with security agencies, community leaders, and government authorities to secure the safe return of all abductees. “We urge everyone to remain prayerful,” he said. “We continue to do everything possible to ensure their swift release. May God protect His people.” https://saharareporters.com/2025/11/22/niger-state-abduction-toll-rises-315-fresh-search-reveals-more-missing-pupils#google_vignette |
Education minister moves against UNN VC for disclosing ex-Minister Nnaji’s certificate forgery The Ministry of Education has launched a probe into the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Simon Ortuanya, for responding to a PREMIUM TIMES Freedom of Information (FOI) request that exposed former Minister of Science and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji’s certificate forgery. Sources told PREMIUM TIMES that the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has set up a panel against the vice-chancellor, accusing him of “unethical and criminal disclosure of information” relating to Mr Nnaji, information the university is legally obliged to release under the FOI Act. It remains unclear what specific mandate the minister gave the panel. PREMIUM TIMES contacted both Mr Alausa and the spokesperson for the ministry, Folasade Boriowo, for clarification on the purpose of the probe, but neither has responded to messages. Sources, however, disclosed that the panel is expected to sit between this week and next. Instead of prosecuting the forger, government targets whistle-blower VC The move against the vice-chancellor comes even though Mr Nnaji had effectively confessed to forgery in his own court documents during his failed attempt to stop PREMIUM TIMES from publishing the investigation. Rather than prosecuting the former minister for the criminal act of forging academic certificates, an offence punishable under Nigerian law, the government has instead turned its weight against the university administrator who merely fulfilled a lawful FOI request and provided factual records. Legal experts say the ministry’s action suggests an attempt to intimidate the university and punish transparency, while shielding a politically connected certificate forger. Mr Nnaji’s certificate forgery Following a two-year investigation, PREMIUM TIMES exposed how Mr Nnaji forged the Bachelor’s degree certificate and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate he submitted to the National Assembly during his 1 August 2023 ministerial screening. Documents obtained showed that at the very time he claimed to have graduated from UNN and proceeded for the NYSC scheme, he was still writing the institution requesting permission to re-sit a failed terminal-year course. Allegations of certificate forgery had trailed Mr Nnaji since July 2023, when President Bola Tinubu nominated him as Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology. Critics insisted he did not complete his university education and that the certificates submitted to the presidency, SGF office, DSS and the Senate were forged. PREMIUM TIMES’ detailed review of the documents confirmed they were indeed forged, a fact both UNN and the NYSC later verified, stating explicitly that they never issued the certificates Mr Nnaji paraded. Mr Ortuanya’s FOI response was pivotal to unraveling the forgery. He confirmed that although Mr Nnaji gained admission into the university in 1981, he did not complete his studies, and no degree was ever awarded to him. “From every available record and information from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, we are unable to confirm that Mr Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji… graduated from the University of Nigeria in July 1985,” he wrote in a letter dated 2 October. He added that the university did not — and could not have — issued the certificate Mr Nnaji presented. After PREMIUM TIMES published its findings, Mr Nnaji accused the newspaper and the vice-chancellor of acting on behalf of the Enugu State Government. His spokesperson, Robert Ngwu, falsely alleged during a television programme that PREMIUM TIMES received N100 million from the state government to publish the investigation. Pressed for evidence, he offered none. PREMIUM TIMES has since denied the allegations and has served Mr Ngwu a pre-litigation notice, preparatory to suing him for defamation https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/837420-education-minister-moves-against-unn-vc-for-disclosing-ex-minister-nnajis-certificate-forgery.html |
