There's currently one Toyota matrix in my estate in the middle of the road since Sunday morning with a leg pull that the owner must have abandoned due frustration I guess.

I laugh each time I drive by..🤣🤣🤣🤣
pls how many kilometers per litre do you think eod should cover for city drive with ac considering it's 2.4l engine?

Very great car. I currently use EOD and since my purchase, I have never had any leg pull neither have I been stranded. Since I know that the double wishbone that the Honda leg uses is not as reliable as the MacPherson found in other vehicles, I give more attention to it by always checking it's condition every month and go for a replacement between 6-8months depending on my vehicle usage and road condition. All the replaced ones are in my toolbox and a very much in good condition as well but I still change them just to ensure I do due diligence.

Also, if your shock, lower/upper arm bushing, engine and gear mount isn't in good condition, it might also impact negatively on your ball joint.

The secret to all it for me is to have a very good maintenance culture and attention to details. If you wish to cut corners or you lack maintenance culture, Honda vehicles will deal with you terribly.

I hope this helps.
same here, I have never experienced any leg pull since I have been using my 2005 eod. And I do.see almighty Toyota pull legs sometimes for road. I just smile

See, to be frank with you. Installing your thermostat is FAR MORE IMPORTANT than running your cooling fans via the brainbox/with switches.

Why? Let's see the advantages & disadvantages of each below

1. Using a thermostat would ensure your vehicle's temperature rises to its optimal range QUICKLY (this would make you not waste fuel from a cold start until when your vehicle's engine gets into a closed loop). Without a thermostat you can waste as little as 3 liters to as much as 5 litres just for your vehicle to get into this closed loop situation, and if you don't drive far (10 miles and above) you will never force your engine into a closed loop state. This means you will always be wasting fuel everytime you drive.

2. Using a thermostat would ensure that your engine oil gets to its optimal flow rate on time. When your vehicle is cold your engine oil is naturally thicker than when it's hot. And when you drive with a cold engine (with a thicker engine oil) you will gradually be degrading your engine cylinder walls and this will soon lead to a smokey engine. I am sure you wouldn't want your engine to START SMOKING even with diligent and timely oil changes right?

2. Using the thermostat would make your vehicles RPM stabilise at its normal range (650 rpm-750 rpm) early and make your engine run quietly as intended from factory. If you drive without a thermostat it's usual for your rpms to be as high as 900 -1,000 rpm everytime you drive and this makes your engine loud plus wastes fuel unnecessarily.

Now about running your fans either directly or via switches/brainbox:

The ONLY advantage or disadvantage with this option is that your cooling fan motors will last longer with it coming on and off automatically instead of running all the time once you turn your ignition key. Plus your battery will last longer too as the stress of the fans motor won't always be on it.

Now as you can see from my examples above it is even far better to run your fans directly SO FAR AS YOU HAVE YOUR THERMOSTAT INSTALLED IN THE ENGINE than to run it via the automatic route without any thermostat because before your fans come on it will take a far longer time and you will be burning excessive fuel 80% of the time while you drive.

I hope you understand what I just posted.
Thanks for your extensive analysis. Kazeems don brainwash us pa

Glad you're making progress. However, just like you've said, kindly get the radiator once you have the financial strength for it.

Radiator related issues are scary and the damage to car is always a nightmare. I always run away from anything that involves fixing or bypassing radiator for any reason, I'll rather park the car till further notice. I learnt the hard way.
I didn't actually by Pass anything on the radiator. The only thing is that fan switch was.put in place of the ect sensor. Once I get the sensor, everything would be back to factory settings.

Another question? Is it compulsory to install thermostat even if the fan isn't on direct. It comes on at a certain temperature
Car TalkRe: The HONDA Club by Bola4boy(m): 7:03am On Oct 06, 2024
Omo, the radiator for my honda accord 2005 is 65k. I no get that money. Fortunately, when I removed the radiator, they were able to get a space to fix fan switch as we couldn't get ect sensor 2.

The fan switch did its own work by making fan come up when hot and the car acceleration improved. No rpm fluctuations. And I used the opportunity to work my radiator cos muds are stuck there. So there's progress

But I'll only be contented if I get it's own ect sensor.

Abeg how do you guys measure this fuel consumption and MPG whatever??

I'm terrible at mathematics, maybe that's where my problem is even coming from. Because the last time I checked, you have to calculate Trip A and B whatever whatever, omo na so I just run oo. I use my weekly usage to calculate my fuel consumption now🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
divide the lkilometer you traveled by liters of petrol you bought. If your tank dey half Guage. Buy 20liters for instance and drive the car till it gets to exactly half Guage. Divide the kilometers covered by 20 liters you bought . So from there, you know the consumption per liter
Car TalkRe: The HONDA Club by Bola4boy(m): 5:45pm On Oct 04, 2024
Also, my car no get catalyst. Should I get the spacer or buy China catalyst.? My fuel consumption is about 4km per liter for city drive. Sometimes less than that

Macmilla:
Please what exactly are you calling "cold start sensor". I'm very sure there's nothing with such name on Honda.
Thanks MacMilla for your analysis. I read your post sometimes ago on how you tackled the issues with your honda accord 2005. I currently use same car and I'm battling with high fuel consumption.

I believe the sensor on the radiator is ect sensor 2( it's absent in my own radiator) but the fan works when engine gets hot

Another ect sensor at the engine area but our Kareem usually call it cold start. Now, my car rpm is unstable but when ever I remove this ect sensor, it balances but radiator fans will start working immediately and temperature guage won't work. I have replaced the sensor but same issue. I have a Bluetooth scanner, the codes I see is the one for downstream oxygen sensor and ect sensor 2 ( radiator own)

Pls help me. Pls help me pls help me. Rewire said I should change brain box for the rpm to stabilize but I no gree.

I'm ready to change the radiator tomorrow but what about the unstable rpm. And what other things should I do to save fuel?

I need help

How did you come to the conclusion that the non follow come radiator might have a direct link with your fuel consumption?

Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, of radiator has anything to do with fuel consumption, then it means you need to check if your thermostat is in place or your fan has been directly wired. Once your thermostat has been bypassed, your fan blows without stop and your engine can never attain optimum temperature in that manner, which in turn causes your ECU to send signal to burn more fuel to try to get the engine to its recommended temperature.

Also, concerning getting a catalytic converter, if funds is not gonna be an issue, I'll advise you leave that spacer and get a china catalyst instead. I bought same and currently using it without any check engine lights on my dashboard.

For fuel concerns, also try to look at your 02 sensors, EGR, injector head, plugs and ensure that they are all in perfect condition or else, some of these things if not in proper working condition might also impact negatively on your fuel consumption.

Just scan the car, get codes if any, and treat them one after the other.

I presently use EOD too, and I hope my little knowledge helps.
The radiator has a sensor called ect sensor 2. Macmillia will understand me cos he has encountered same issue. Just that I don't have the expertise to do what he did to resolve the issue that's why I'm thinking of just getting a new radiator with the follow come sensor.

Another issue I have is the unstable rpm I experience. But once i detach the cold start sensor, the rpm will stabilize. I don't know if anyone has encountered such issue before

If thermostat is installed and fan is working directly. Will it still affect fuel consumption negatively?

Cos I understand that if ac is put on, fan works permanently
