After competence, the agreed rotational principle should be respected. African leaders will always want to cut corners around everything.

Who's better placed to further the prospects of the AfDB than the one who has already served as the Institution's Vice, garnering valuable experience in the process?!

That is not to say that as a Nigerian I have forgotten the recent disrespect these South Africans have paid us, but a deal is a deal.

➡️ For a second day, Ukrainian hackers hit Russian institutions.

Russia suffered major digital outages for a second day Tuesday after hackers targeted Russia’s court information system, taking down court websites and claiming to have wiped court documents and decisions in the system’s database.

The hackers, who called themselves the “BO Team,” posted a message with an obscenity declaring that the attack was made to mark President Vladimir Putin’s 72nd birthday Monday, the same day a massive attack on Russia’s online state media channels occurred.

On Monday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the country’s state television and media company VGTRK suffered an “unprecedented hacker attack on its digital infrastructure.”

📰 China raises stakes in trade row by imposing provisional tariffs on EU brandy imports.

A worsening trade row between Beijing and Brussels continues with China's decision to impose provisional tariffs on brandy imported from the European Union.

The move comes after the EU slapped additional tariffs of up to 35.3 percent on electric vehicles imported from China last week, saying that Beijing's generous domestic subsidies had harmed European automakers.

📰 France bars Osama bin Laden’s son from returning ‘for any reason’.

France is barring Osama bin Laden’s son, Omar, from returning to the country “for any reason whatsoever”, the French interior minister said on Tuesday.

Omar lived in France with his British wife for several years, working as an artist in Normandy. He was ordered to leave the country last year and was slapped with a two-year ban to return after posting what authorities deemed to be pro-terrorism posts on social media.

He is now reported to be living in Qatar.

⚡Donald Trump's running mate in the US presidential race, J.D Vance has proposed a solution to ending the war in Ukraine.

◾️ Russia receives already occupied territories
◾️ Ukraine receives guarantees of sovereignty, abandons NATO and accepts neutrality
◾️ Germany restores Ukraine.

The roles are divided and the US, as always, has no obligations.
The truth is, the U.S is already tired of this Ukraine imbroglio and will happily jump on any opportunity to cut funding, but it has to keep up the charade just for the political optics.

Whether Harris or Trump wins, the consensus is that Ukraine is a lost endeavour. All that's left now is for the backstage players to find ways of profiting from the remains that is Ukraine, in their bid to cover for the funds expended through the duration of the Russian SMO.

📰 France’s new govt relies on far-right support as it faces 'no-confidence' vote.

France’s new government, led by conservative Prime Minister Michel Barnier, will have to lean on the support of the far right as it faces a no-confidence vote in parliament on Tuesday.

The motion was called by left-wing alliance New Popular Front, which won the most votes in the June-July parliamentary elections but did not gain an outright majority, and was then sidelined by President Emmanuel Macron when he chose his new prime minister.

📰 An American journalist from Arizona who attempted to self-immolate in Washington DC said he became overwhelmed by how the US media, and by extension himself, framed Israel's war on Gaza and the killings of innocent Palestinians.

Samuel Mena on Saturday attended a pro-Palestinian rally, where he gave a speech about objectivity and both-sideism and chided American newsrooms for their coverage of the war.

Quickly, police officers and members of the public put out the fire, and Mena was later hospitalised for his injuries, which were non-life threatening.
