Courtesy Senior Mamma AlphaHandMaiden
Sleeping:
●Crib/ cot/ cotbed /bassinet
●Mattress if not already part of the set you buy
●Beddings - i.e bedsheet
●Mosquito netting

Feeding:
●Bottles and teats
●Sterilizer - electric, microwave/ cold water with sterilizing tablets
●Bottle brush for washing
●Formular if using
●Breast pump - manual or electric
●Breast pads
●Tip. Cream - lanolin based.
●Breast feeding cover - Optional as some ladies are comfy without it.

Bathing and changing:
●Baby bath
●Small towel - doesnt need to be a baby towel many people complain they are not absorbent enough.
●Nappies - disposables or reusable - for the disposable nappies maybe 1 pack of size 1 and the rest a size 2. (allow for up to 12 nappy changes in a 24 hr period)
●Wipes - disposable or reusable - for disposable get the fragrance free type for sensitive skin.
●Body cream
●Hair cream
●Bath soap
●Nappy cream - nothing special, vaseline, ori or coconut oil work well

Carrying:
●Car seat -: i see this as an essential item.
●Baby carrier if you need one
●Rocker/ swing / bouncer - now with this i would advice get one that is newborn to toddler i.e up to 18 kg as most bouncers have a 9kg weight limit and depending on how big you baby is, may outgrow it by 6 months!. Also look for the ones that have a newborn position which is an almost flat lying setting, as some og them mainly the electrical swing types tend to have baby in a funny position, and you may not really be able to use it properly in the first few weeks until baby grows a bit. .

Clothing:
Few tips:
Babies outgrow clothes unbeliveable fast. get as many unisex items as possible so that you can have longer use in case next baby is of opposite sex.

Do not buy too many newborn items as you baby may be big and they may not even fit. 0-3 months is ideal.

Dont get sucked into buying a load of fancy dresses under 3months, your baby will live in bodysuits for the first 3 months so dont waste your money.

Shoes for newborns are also a waste of money to me. They just make them pretty, so we can buy them.. hry have absolutely no functional use!

Factor in how many times a day you would bath a baby and how often you intend to do laundry. You can always buy more if you need to.

●Vests - both longsleeved and short sleeved versions. May be 7-10 number to start

●Bodysuits/all-in-one/onsies - get the ones with integrated scratch mittens ... that way you do not start looking for mittens which always have a way of getting lost as they never seem to fit well. about 7 - 10 in number to start

●1 special outing for naming or christening if required

●Socks! Loadssssss these could also double up as mittens, as they are more elastic and they wont fall off! I would say a dozen pairs especially of they are being used on the hands as well

●Bibs... loadssssss but at least a dozen!

●Burb cloths or muslins to wipe up drool, spit ups and all sorts.
● A couple of blankets or shawls.

That is all i can think of for now. I am sure other mamas will contribute

BTW, experience mamas I'm 15weeks+2days today to d glory of Almighty God, I haven't seen LO's gender but hubby and I are convinced as to what we are expecting. My question is, when am I supposed to start buying baby things? Although, clothings and diapers can wait cos I have plans for clothes shopping also its possible gender disappoints so I will have to wait awhile for that.
What are d things I can start buying for now or do I have to kuku wait?
If I have to wait, then till wen?

Based on the bulk of mails i have received, most questions were centered around recommendation letter.

I would want to reiterate that in my own opinion certificate is different from recommendation letter...i stand to be corrected though

Lets try to upload letters and not certificate except we dont have any option

Recommendation letter should include your postion in the firm, your contribution, competencies and basically the problems you were able to solve. I am afraid that certificates may not capture all....my thought though

happy weekend to you all...

Please the experienced mum in the house, how do you stop excessive salivating??

I'm not happy with this new development i've noticed. i have to continually spit every now and then, or swallow my saliva, which is even worse (my mouth is bitter, so swallowing it can cause me to vomit).

Don't really understand why my mouth is suddenly producing excess saliva.. (i'm 7 weeks)

Those that experienced it, is there any way to stop it?

(its embarassing).

Sorry mama. I also have excess saliva too though we are 29weeks. I take plenty water to stay hydrated and replace the saliva, the cost of chewing gum na die o imagine ten naira for one. so i swaggalicously spit out in my 75cl eva bottle smiley when ever i am home and i chew gum when i am out
I recently read that someone's saliva dried up after delivery on this trend so i am consoled abit

I used my discharge certificate as my recommendation letter and just discovered a letter of recommendation from inec here. can I reapply?

Reapplying is like shooting yourself on the foot. One application per person.Be confident in what you have sent and pray too. Never under estimate the power of prayer

As part of AU agenda 2063, AU would like to see youth participation in electioneering process.

bolubej, I volunteered with Nigerian Army Band for one year during my service. I was given a recommendation letter stamped by the commandant himself. Can that one work? I will love to have ur digit..cuz I am still confused concerning the application. You can send it here sir Adewalep4@gmail.com. Thanks bro.

Were your responsibilities, competencies and acheivement stated in the recommendation letter?

Bolubej is a female and would prefer to be addressed as such

There is nothing to be confused about in the application...What are you confused about?

Let me teach you something.

When I was just starting out like you, had little experience so I had to exaggerate the little I had. The key thing is to be hyperbolic a bit and don't tell an outright lie that you can't defend.

Yes, for the WAHO application, I used my NYSC experience because I didn't have any other. I worked in a health agency so it was relevant.

I spent my NYSC breaking records on Chicken Invaders on the new desktop WHO donated to my organisation. In my application I didn't mention that. I focused more on leading and supervision of health teams grin

Lwkmd ooooo. Bottom line is dont sell yourself short

Thanks for the swift response. But I'm afraid you haven't answered my questions. The required recommendation letter is just one- that of the volunteering experience, and it's to be uploaded. From your responses to other posts, I have figured that recommendation letters from PPAs are valid. That's done. But then, you say my experience is valid, which? Professional or volunteering? My 'professional' experiences as an educator, though more than a year, were garnered during and pre-NYSC. One of the criteria says to have at least one year of professional experience. With the way that particular criterion is structured, I think we're just to mention it in the motivation essay, only the volunteering experience is to be verified (with a recommendation letter). Now, my question is if I should state my professional experience as an educator, would it be ok?

cc GeneralOjukwu

I also would like to share my motivation letter and CV with you, so as to help fine-tune them.
All are valid! but i dont no what AU is asking for this time around. Could you please share us what is required this time. You can also send your document. Pls kindly let me no on this forum when you send the mail so i can check my mail as this mail is not my official mail and i dont receive notifications

Pls permit me to recommend Grace House Resort to you very close to yaya center. I spent like a week there and i really enjoyed theirs service. It a Christain like hotel, the staff are exceptional. One of them led me to my host about 5mins walk from the hotel without collecting a dime
I agree with pavore9. You can change some cos u may likely get a better offer in town than at the airport

Can NYSC discharge certificate be used as recommendation letter?

Nope it cant. Its not explicit enough and most of those that would do the selection are from various countries who dont even no jack about NYSC or the discharge certificate. But a letter from your PPA could.

In addition, i know of someone in my set that used his admission letter into UI PG school and he was selected. Maybe because of is course of study...Peace and Conflict ...who knows?
But its best to put your best foot first

I do apologise. I have being on the road since. I am just checking nairaland now to know what i have missed and to try to respond to all the questions one at a time.

As for the mail, no beef sir or ma. Its not my official mail so i dont get notifications when they come in. I apologise once again.

As for motivation letter, the call for application changes year in year out. During my set we only wrote essays so motivation letter does not apply here.

I was given a recommendation letter by my PPA before leaving (signed and stamped).
Can the NYSC itself be considered as the required 1 year volunteering experience, with this recommendation letter flying with it? I also intensely engaged in HIV/AIDS sensitisation throughout my service year. I have a 'little' letter of recognition to show for it (signed but not stamped). Will this fly? Or will service and recommendation in a religious setting suffice and be considered? Please help critique all three.

As for the 1 year professional experience, I only rounded up service 3months ago. However, will/can my past experiences as an educator be considered?

PS. I already PM'd you, twice. I patiently await your response. Thank you.

Your experience is valid and they can fly. To start with how many recommendation letters were you asked to send? if its just one, i would suggest you state your roles and the organizations here so that oga GeneralOjukwu and I can touch light the matter and suggest what would fly the most.

hello sir,the only volunteering I have done is for Nigerian red cross my university chapter, I don't know if I can use that, plus I don't have an international passport nor national identity card but I have a voters card, I don't know if its also acceptable
Thats a good one. ensure it reflect on your cv. You will most definitely need an international passport but it depends on the stage its required. they may not require u to said your data page yet but if selected, you will need it. Cause it will be used to process your ticket etc

NOTE: Only your international passport is recognised

am a little bit confussed on the application part which says that candidate should attatch signed letter of recommendation, verifying volunteer experience....during ur application where did u get urs...and secondly are there limitation to where one can get it? @bolubej or anyone please help

@ApostleEbuka
A signed reccomendation is a recommendation letter duly signed and stamped.
It should state your responsibilities, your achievement and competencies. It should sound convincing.
It doesnt have to be a paid job or volunteering service. AU would want to see a selfless person who has contributed one thing or the other in the community or organization

I would suggest you upload all your document in pdf format...its shows professionalism and not editable as other format could distort the configuration of your document
