The Transcript shows details of your CGPA (and its kept confidential) while the statement of result just state the duration of the cource and your grade (upper/lower/pass)

The West African Examination Council has explained reasons for adopting the e-marking system, saying it is an elixir for producing reliable examination results. This came as the council allayed the fears of experienced examiners that the initiative would result in their exclusion from marking WAEC scripts. The council’s Deputy Registrar, Dr. Modupe Oke, stated this while addressing stakeholders in Lagos. She spoke at a seminar while presenting a paper titled “Examiners: Let us talk about your views on the e-marking of candidates’ scripts at the West African Senior School Certificate Examination in Nigeria.” Oke, alongside the WAEC Registrar/Chief Executive, Dr. Iyi Uwadie, co-authored the paper. The council inaugurated the pilot e-marking of WASSCE scripts in 2013 using the November/December diet, with Biology 3 (practical paper) in Lagos State. But Oke, while explaining the rationale behind the innovation, said the measure was to key producing reliable,
standardised and more believable examination results. Oke, who admitted that the procedure was still facing some teething challenges, noted that the council would soon overcome these difficulties. According to her, the fresh initiative will enable the council to overcome the challenges in the manual scoring technique. She said, “Manual scoring of essays and practical tests also takes considerable time due to logistics involved in scripts control and movement, number of days required by the examiners to mark the scripts and record the scores manually. Time is also required for independent checking of the marked scripts and marks transferred by checkers. “E-marking has the potential of reducing the number of examiners and days for marking, and enhancing reliability in scoring.” According to Oke, findings from 219 examiners that participated in the pilot e- marking scheme last year showed that it is more effective and efficient than manual marking. The Head of National Office, Mr. Charles Eguridu, on the occasion, said the initiative was part of the council’s strategic plans to lift the conduct of its examinations to loftier heights. Represented by the Director of Administration, Mr. Stephen Taiwo, the HNO, while urging stakeholders to embrace the technique, said e-marking is practised across the globe nowadays.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State has accused the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, of telling lies against Governor Ayodele Fayose. The PDP said Omirin lied against Fayose when the speaker alleged that the governor was blackmailing the legislature because the state lawmakers refused to screen the commissioner- nominees sent to the House. In a statement made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, the state PDP chairman, Chief Idowu Falaye, explained that the House had no reason not to clear the nominees because it was the legislators that demanded for the names and credentials of the nominees, and that they were submitted. Falaye alleged that the state legislators hurriedly removed the consideration of the commissioner-nominees from the day’s agenda, “after receiving a contrary order from their masters.” He said, “It was a big surprise and highly disappointing for the speaker to say that the nominees have not brought their credentials when in actual fact the receipt of the documents were certified before the plenary on Tuesday. “I want to say categorically that the House called for the credentials of the nominees who are members of our party and the three of them submitted while the speaker invited them for screening on Monday before realising that the parliamentary caucus meeting of the House would be meeting on the day. “He then shifted the meeting till Tuesday; it was along the line that the order to stop the whole process crept in, based on the opinion of the leaders of the opposition All Progressives Congress.

A combined team of local hunters, civilian JTF and the Nigerian soldiers on Wednesday night launched a fierce battle against Boko Haram insurgents and recaptured Mubi and its environ, which had earlier fell into the hands of the sect. Reports from Mubi also indicated that five Nigerian Armoured Personnel Carriers, seized by the dreaded Islamists in the area, were recovered when the insurgents fled the town. A source in Mubi indicated that there were jubilation as people were seen trooping out to show solidarity with the local hunters and the civilian JTF. No fewer than 100 Boko Haram members were said to have been either killed or injured by the hunters. The source further disclosed that the 234 Army Battalion as well as other security formations in the area, which fell into the hands of the insurgents, had been recovered and the soldiers were seen trooping in and out
of the barracks and taking strategic positions. Our correspondent learnt that all the flags hoisted by the insurgents in some government quarters were destroyed and replaced by the
Nigerian flags while the Emir’s palace converted to the sect’s “Madinatul Islam” has now been taken over by the Nigerian team.
