A few years ago I predicted that Meta might introduce ads into WhatsApp and make the app unbearable, perhaps fading out like BBM did which will see a lot of people move to Telegram and maybe X.

I cannot find the exact tweet but I found a similar one I posted in 2024 (screenshot attached). Now I have come with a new prediction.

WhatsApp has added several new features over the years one that many do not agree with is the rearrangement of the WhatsApp status to give room for 'suggested/featured WhatsApp channels'.

That move was basically to bring the favorite creators of its users closer to each other. Imagine being able to watch same content you'd see on IG on WhatsApp without leaving the WhatsApp app - exactly what they were gunning for.

It has proven to be a huge success. Meta then announced they will be gradually rolling out Ads to WhatsApp - which in itself is a good idea. I had hoped that it will not be pop up ads, so far I have not seen anything to suggest such. However, it seems the ads are being placed in the stories tab wherein after you watch a contacts story, an ad is played in between before moving to the next contact, just like on Facebook or Instagram at times.

WHATSAPP PREMIUM:
I am predicting that WhatsApp will introduce ads premium feature where you will have to pay not to see ads on your feed - kind of like YouTube premium. Since it's a free chat app with many users globally, the loss of users will not be so much.

MONETIZATION FOR CREATORS
Meta will also introduce creator monetization for WhatsApp channels. Again, this is just my prediction - I might be wrong (I am sure I'm not tho, . So if you have a 'WhatsApp TV' (WhatsApp user with lots of views) and yet to create a channel, you need to do so ASAP and direct all your viewers to join. Content creators on Facebook can already make $2000 per month, don't miss the chance with WhatsApp.

PAID GROUPS/COMMUNITIES
This will be another way for creators to make money right there on WhatsApp. A lot of creators now sell courses, paid mentorship, community access etc, WhatsApp will make it even easier to monetize knowledge and community. I might have also figured out how it might work. Imagine I'm a creator that teaches other creators how to create, take for instance a Salem King wanting to give a group training on WhatsApp all he has to do is to send you the link to the WhatsApp group after which when you click you are redirected to the WhatsApp group but you have to pay before you see the messages being dropped.

When you click on 'pay' you will not be directed to any other app, all payments will be collected on the WhatsApp platform with Paga or any other Meta payment partners. Your money gets to Salem and he cashes out into his bank account.

On the back end, Salem will be able to set how much his channel subscription is, how many chats you can read before asking for payments. He will also be able to select how many subscriptions to sell.

My projections are based on what I'm seeing WhatsApp implement behind the scenes and quietly rolling out. WhatsApp is even trying to compete with Google Meets, Microsoft Teams and Zoom, Slack or even Asana - "companies have WhatsApp groups already why do they need another app to hold their virtual meetings" is the thought behind this.

With over 15 years in the industry I have seen things change and people adapt once these features start rolling out, people will push back but will be fored to accept the change.

Afterall, WhatsApp is just another business that needs to be profitable and as they cannot sell data again because of GDPR and other relevant country rules about data protection they have to evolve fast and find other ways to keep afloat.

When they start happening, do not call me a prophet.

In a historic move signaling a coordinated legal and diplomatic offensive, African leaders are advancing plans to file a joint reparation claim against the United Kingdom for crimes committed during the colonial era. The push gained significant momentum at a major conference in Algiers on Sunday, where policymakers convened to translate principle into action.

The meeting, focused on having colonial-era crimes “recognized, criminalized and addressed through reparations,” directly advances a resolution passed by the African Union (AU) earlier this year. That resolution calls for justice and reparations for victims of colonialism, building on a landmark proposal at the AU’s February summit to formally define colonization as a crime against humanity and develop a unified continental position.

Nigeria, a regional powerhouse, is taking a leading role in the burgeoning campaign. The push was foreshadowed in September when Nigerian Senator Prince Ned Nwoko sent an official claim to the British government demanding $5 trillion in reparations for the damages of colonialism. While this was a national initiative, it set a powerful precedent and figure for the broader continental discussion.
The British government has consistently rejected such claims. Officials in London have previously labeled demands for colonial reparations as "astonishingly hypocritical," maintaining that the UK is proud of its modern partnership with African nations and refuses to engage with allegations of historical crimes in a legal or reparative framework.

However, the African initiative is gaining traction in the court of global public opinion. A recently released documentary, “From Slavery to Bond,” has renewed scrutiny on the British Empire’s legacy. The film investigates how colonial policies on resource extraction, arbitrary borders, and historical artifacts offset laid a “solid ground for modern problems and crises” across the continent, lending academic and moral weight to the reparations argument.

The Algiers conference represents a critical step in a meticulously planned framework. Analysts suggest a joint AU claim would carry far greater geopolitical and legal heft than individual national efforts, posing a significant diplomatic challenge to the UK. The next phase is expected to involve consolidating a common historical assessment, finalizing a legal strategy, and determining the structure and scope of the reparations demand.

While the path to any monetary payment remains long and fraught, the collective move marks a pivotal shift.

Helpster Charity US Inc, an international nonprofit organisation based in the US, has conducted a medical outreach in Nigeria in furtherance of its humanitarian mission of providing healthcare access to underserved communities across Africa and Asia.

The medical outreach, which was the 7th outing in Nigeria, was held on September 28, 2024, in Ajegunle, one of the largest slums in Lagos, harbouring over 500,000 people and sandwiched between Apapa Port and Tin Can Island Port. The medical team, made up of two doctors, two nurses and two laboratory specialists, engaged in health sensitisation, screening and treatment of common diseases, and deworming.

Helpster Country Manager, Dr Perpetua Mbanefo, who led the medical outreach team, stated that the nonprofit organises these outreaches regularly to provide healthcare to remote communities where healthcare access is a challenge because of the economic situation of the people there.

She emphasised that the challenge of limited healthcare access is still prevalent in Nigeria and some other African and Asian countries where the poverty index is high, adding that this makes it difficult for underprivileged children to get the medicare they need.

"In addition to facilitating access to essential medicare for those that need it, especially children, pregnant women and young adults, through a crowdfunding technology, Helpster, through these outreaches, takes medicare to the remote communities where healthcare is critically needed.

"The turnout today was great. About 200 children and adults got screened and treated for malaria, malnutrition, skin infections, high blood pressure, diabetes, upper respiratory tract infections, and other common diseases. We sensitised them on key health topics and counselled them on living healthy.

"We thank all the volunteers that came out to support us in achieving our programme objective. We also appreciate Pastor David Moses for allowing us use the church for the programme. It's good to see that well-meaning individuals are joining forces with Helpster in making a difference in the lives of the residents of poor communities", Dr Mbanefo stressed.

A medical volunteer, Benjamin Ekishi, commended Helpster for the impactful programme and explained that he keyed into it because of the mision of the organisation, which is to ensure no child suffers or dies due to lack of access to vital medicare.

A parent, whose child was a beneficiary of the programme, Mrs Beatrice Nwaka, expressed gratitude to Helpster for organising the outreach in Ajegunle, and called on other organisations to follow suit, as the community is in need of such healthcare outreaches.

Helpster started its medical outreach programme in 2023, and has impacted over 4000 children across Nigeria. In February 2024, it partnered with Tunde Onakoya's Chess in Slums Africa for its 6th medical outreach in Makoko, a slummy area of Lagos, where over 400 children were treated.

Helpster Charity US Inc, founded by a team of heart-driven IT specialists, is a non-governmental organisation that is bridging the gap in healthcare access by connecting vulnerable children in need of vital medicare to those willing to fund their treatment through an app and a website- www.helpstercharity.org.

In a recent interview with Rainbow Magazine, Seyi Awolowo revealed that what fellow Ex BBNaija housemate said about him was totally false and uncalled for.

DAVIDO’S BEHAVIOUR FURTHER SHOWS WHY NYSC SHOULD BE SCRAPPED OR REFORMED

Two years ago in the 8th of June 2016, I wrote an open letter to the federal government on the need to either scrap the NYSC Scheme of reform it from ground up and it got published on Naijaloaded which generated about 208 comments with about 40% of them being what I consider ‘hate comments’ even though I was totally open and proffered solutions in my letter (http://www..ng/news/open-letter-fg-scrap-nysc). This letter was also published on about 50 other blogs.

I HAVE COME AGAIN – AND MY STANCE IS STILL THE SAME

Now what Davido did is not entirely new in the system it just got more publicity because he is ‘Davido’. People have been flouting the NYSC scheme for years only coming for registration and then on the day of the passing out for camp to collect their posting letter which is mostly influenced to their place of choice.

I remember going to camp in 2017 and on the first day I saw this really fresh guy who came from registration with a convoy of police men and ‘delegates’ (as if they were on a trip to China). He jumped queue and left camp immediately he had been captured – I was angry and I just went to the room I put my luggage to sleep – on getting there, my things were missing including the bed I had secured (I later found my two bags scattered in different ends of the room but I didn’t find my bed again). We were like 400+ of us in one room which was stinking from different type of breadths (smokers, alcoholics etc).

David Adeleke could have experienced these first hand and then write a song about it to draw the attention of the world to the decaying Scheme – just like Falz did with ‘this is Nigeria’. He could have used his voice to fight for the common man to ensure that reformation of the scheme was top priority. Sega Awosanya doesn’t have half of Davido’s popularity yet was still able to pull off the #EndSARS campaign alongside supports from other areas – Davido has failed to help the course of the average Nigerian Youth.

Listen, I’m not even very angry with Davido, nah! Not at all. I am angry with the officials of NYSC to let this happen. Registering in camp and taking off to another country the next day – amidst a very widely publicized showing up in camp and a string of events in USA starting with a show in Boston. I know some Davido fans will attack me, I’m not angry at his success, if I were in his shoes I’d do the same it is now the duty of the authority to STOP me!

The guys at NYSC have missed a big opportunity to stamp their relevance to the cause of Nigerian youths by letting Davido off just like that. I mean the talk would have been ‘Even Davido as rich as he is came to serve’, the NYSC could have totally controlled the narrative with a press release before Davido even left the camp at all to explain why he has to leave camp – that would have made more sense.

A LIST OF THINGS DAVIDO COULD HAVE SEEN

The shitty food that is usually served: I know the NYSC camp in Lagos is by far better to all the other states. I served in Akwa-Ibom and everyday a cow will be killed but when the food is served you’ll find fish in your cooler/plate. I didn’t eat the food tho (I don’t even collect it) except on Sundays when they serve hot water disguised as tea.

The mattress disguised mats: If you have never seen where a mat is called a mattress you should probably visit some NYSC camps – you will cry for help. Don’t give me any of that ‘it is a training sh*t’ coz I might end up slapping you (a magical hand will come out of your screen to slap you).

Don’t even get me started on what they call morning drills – absolutely useless and ineffective
Uncontrolled mami-market: Some of the vendors here are not monitored. These ones cook food with bad/dirty water then sell at higher rates than applicable outside the camp.

Basically, the scheme is not organized at all!

Should we talk about the alawee? Absolutely not…

Oh, fu*k it, let’s just talk about this once again.

How on earth do you expect a grown ass human being survive on 19,800 per month, how? If it is even saved for the whole period it is not able to rent an apartment in some states, what am I saying? It cannot pay agency and agreement fees in Lagos.

Davido had the chance to actually influence something but he blew it.

The Entertainment Industry in Nigeria and Diaspora has contributed greatly to our social and moral views. The media itself has become a platform of validation for many who seek stardom either for personal vendetta or as a means to give back to the society.

The diverse sectors of the Industry has in its own way produced individuals and groups who have been able to stand alongside the international Acts. Despite the limitations and hurdles of climbing up the right ladder to having their specialties accepted or embraced by the audience, a number of individuals sought out another means to reach out and carve a niche for themselves in the Entertainment Industry through the use of various social media Platforms ranging from Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter et al.

Let’s take a look at the Top 10 list of comedians who have made a success via Instagram- a popular social media medium that enables a few minutes video uploads and also captures the number of followers acquired by the Entertainer.


NUMBER #1 – TWYSE ‘Ereme Abraham’.

Twyse has become a household name as his creative ability to successfully coin 6 unique characters without mixing up their acts is very impressive. All 6 characters existing as an African Family living abroad shows the typical mindsets of traditional parents and their approaches to various life subjects ranging from Etiquettes, Culture,Morals,Spousal Issues and their sexual views. Shade – the house help from Ibadan has an interesting body structure and accent which sometimes is a hard hurdle for Taofeek- the cousin whose ambition is to dive into the musical mainstream with his skills and very visible tribal marks and gangster ensemble though he is continuously reminded of his impossible dreams by Daddy Tobi who also is constantly reminded of his limitations as a real man by Mummy Tobi, who also faces the nightmare of a mother in-law simply referred to as Mama. The typical growing teenager surrounded by choices but restricted to one and a reflection of the impact of parenthood on children in marriage is Tobi.


NUMBER # 2- MARAJI ‘Gloria Oloruntobi’.

The success rate of females in the comedy sector is minimal in comparison to their male counterparts. This young lady has been able to clear our doubts that truly talent is not gender based. Maraji began with her mimic clips of diverse western rap songs, her ability to flawlessly blend the right facial expression in line with the lyrics deserves an endless standing ovation. She did a mimic of a funny Yoruba herbal concoction hawker who had very hilarious names for her mixtures. Maraji further dived into making videos of multiple characters about typical day to day activities with family, friends, Artisans in public places like the market, roadside stalls, Churches, Classrooms, Banking Halls and neighboring streets. She has bagged herself brand Advert Deals which she creatively blends into her comic clips.


NUMBER #3 – Nedu

Nedu has been able to leave a lasting impression on the minds of his viewers with a video clip he tagged ‘sister Nkechi’. In these clips he emphatically addresses the ‘ladies on InstaGRANT’. In fact, this somehow has helped to move his viewers on YouTube to Instagram in search of the ‘slay queens and pepperdem gang’. These are street names coined for prostitutes and social wanna bees in Sister Nkechi’s dictionary.

He is usually dressed in feminine ensemble and makes rib-cracking remarks all through his clips. Nedu focuses on reminding the youths and Adults about the pros and cons of living on the fast lane and also helps the couples understand the essence of marriage. In other clips, he’s dressed as a bride whose sole aim is to protect her cooler of food against the forces of her in-laws and guests. Just when we thought we had seen it all, he launches a landlord sequel where his Hausa accent is undeniably impressive. In all, we applaud Nedu as one comedian who has used his knowledge of the three major Nigerian Languages to touch lives by cracking our ribs with jaw-dropping comic videos.


INTERMITTENT REVIEW

There was an era in the entertainment industry when only westernized accents were the main deal. In cases where an individual had a local accent, they were sidelined as not being learned, posh or classy. These has seized to being the case since Jenifa, a movie made by Funke Akindele which paved way for the acceptance of our traditional and local values in the industry. In fact, the Ibadan accent soon became a great deal as its spontaneity in creating gushing reactions of laughter is beyond expectation.



NUMBER #4 – Omo Ibadan – Lizzy Jay

The cosin senta Titan emerged with a mind-blowing coaching class where she confuses the students in her own version of pronunciations. These clip went viral as you could find 4 out of 5 persons viewing and laughing out loud. She did well to also inculcate moral lessons alongside her act wherein there’s a lesson to be learnt –of course the pronunciation clip tells us the importance of proper education and serves as a reminder to help contribute to the child education.



NUMBER #5 – Woli Agba – Ayo Ajewole

A number of times, we as individuals reflect on certain times we have had encounters with religious personnel’s. Their manner of approach to issues whilst away from the pulpit is synonymous to the comic clips Woli Agba Makes. He has stood out amongst many by depicting the values of Christianity and morals with comedy without crossing the line. There have been cases where persons trying to make comic relief in religious cache had erroneously blasphemed thereby creating mixed feelings amongst their audience. He has been able to constantly remind us of the values of worship and the existence of God while inculcating discipline and principle in our life issues and also in parenthood. He has a signature white robe ensemble and a very amusing way of dancing and uttering prayers without words.



NUMBER # 6 – Craze Clown – Baba Ade

Craze clown reached the Nigerian audience despite his diaspora location with his hilarious video clip. He is seen as a typical Yoruba father raising two son’s singlehandedly. He fears that his sons especially Ade would derail from morality so he keeps close tabs on him. The ‘resetting slap’ became his signature as this became a means to reset Ade back to norm. He has done well to capture our hearts and interest and we never had a reason to doubt his ability to keep his audience glued to their screen every single time.



NUMBER #7 – Emma Oh’my God

Emma was able to create a blend between music and comedy. His ability to play diverse instruments made him unique in many ways. He began as a stage comedian back at the university alongside being a bass guitarist in the choir. He brought this skills together by creating sarcastic remake of hit songs which kept his audience glued to their screen. One of the major songs he remixed was Aye by Davido where he featured other comedians as they dressed up as ladies insisting ‘they want all the designers’ wares”. He did well to also create nostalgic feelings by remaking old orthodox hymns and songs. His ability to also do these uniquelymapped out his own class of audience who keep waiting to see the next new thing he has in stock.

After contesting on The Voice Nigeria 2017 and getting to the battles stage, Blessing (Blesyn Izick) has decided to drop her first official single.

5and6 is a song of the season (valentine) and for lovers of good music.

Blessing Isaac was born to Akwa Ibom parents in Lagos state where she has grown to be the fine lady she is today. Blessing has performed alongside several music bands across various events in Nigeria. Kings band, thrillers band and the Gfactor bands are a few of the bands performed with, Blessing Isaac (Blesyn Izick) has performed at bank Carols (Diamond Bank), Social media awards, Debbie Rise's Rage tour, bars and lounges. Blessing was also privileged to have performed at the COWSLO (Committee of wives of Lagos state officials) conference in 2017.

Also speaking with Blackdrum TV, JJC said it was his 'Beautiful wife' Funke who turned the new series 'Industreet' into what it is now.

Funke Akindele's Baby bump is now becoming visible, it is safe to say that the couple are doing well both emotionally and in the entertainment industry.
