Thanks for responding. I actually meant sharing within the same compound.

Meanwhile, does it mean Starlink isn't mobile? What if I'm going to lodge in a hotel?
please just watch YouTube videos on starlink internet and understand what it's all about

Cool. I'll get this in the next few months. I pay around 19k/month for 90gb on Swift and the speed is shitty.
19k for 90gb. Seriously? I pay 20k for 200gb using Airtel router monthly unlimited subscription plan and they still give you 10gb daily till the monthly subscription ends whenever you exhaust the initial 200gb. The speed isn't bad either. It's an average of 40mbps(5MB/S download speed) for both upload and download. The downside is sometimes Airtel network becomes so bad you can't even watch a YouTube video at 360p and this can last for hours before returning back to it's usual 40mbps speed. Starlink remains the best option if only we can truly pay in Naira. Imagine downloading at 20MB/S normally and it's unlimited monthly data subscription

Nigerian banks are the problem, not Starlink.
but why not verify with the Nigerian banks/government before boldly updating on their webpage that you can pay in Naira. Isn't that a form of scam. Did they just wake up and post you can buy starlink in Naira on their website without making necessary preparations or seeking necessary approval from Nigerian government. I am sure both Elon musk and his representatives are aware of the dollar problem in Nigeria and the dollar transaction limit in Nigerian banks. It's even on every website discussing starlink limitations in Nigeria. Elon musk can't claim he is ignorant about it

me too. I have tried both eco bank and access bank ATM cards and it declined my payment. Why will they change to Naira payment when banks won't acknowledge the payment. What kind of scam is this?

Once you are registered in Nigeria, the government does not allow you to sell in foreign currency.

So you are correct.
starlink just updated their webpage. You can now order starlink using Naira at official exchange rate. I have been trying to order but my eco bank and access bank ATM cards have been declining. I don't know why. If anyone succeeds to order using Naira ATM card, please let me know which bank's ATM card you used

Here is a quick review of Starlink Nigeria after using service for one whole week.

Happy Viewing.

please do a 1 month review and if possible including playing online games in the next video. I hope you play online games on console, pc or phone at least. You can try apex legends mobile which shows internet latency/ping when playing(can be turned on in settings). About the frequent short starlink outages which isn't normal, have you checked the starlink mobile app for possible obstruction in the sky view of the starlink dish? It's possible the outages are caused by some form of obstruction in the sky view of the starlink dish(maybe trees or a nearby house). The starlink mobile app should be able to detect any obstructions

The speed is quite impressive. However you do not need more than 3Mbp for streaming a HD content without buffering. I use FibreOne and for the past 2 months the service has been impressive. Monthly fee is about 12k and one off set up is about 45k.
what's your average internet speed?
PhonesRe: My SpaceX Starlink Internet Experience In Lagos, Nigeria by Bonzojoko:

Given the price of the kit, which is $600, that translates to over #450,000 or more using the prevailing exchange rate, it can never be popular in Nigeria, unless they drastically reduce it. Notwithstanding the monthly $43 sub, which is great, in my opinion.
Elon musk will eventually reduce it. There is no way we and USA/UK people are expected to pay same $600 starlink kit price while Jamaicans pay $393(60,500 JMD). Nigeria is the only country where you cannot pay for starlink using the local currency(Naira). That's kinda embarrassing

Using IDM, I do get up to 65 - 75MBps
that's a lovely internet speed in Nigeria but it still can't beat unlimited data with download speed of 12-30MBps which starlink offers. If MTN wants to destroy any chance of starlink becoming popular in Nigeria, they should just offer true unlimited data plan for 30k per month and enable nationwide 5g coverage. Someone downloaded 10gb file in 6 minutes twice using starlink internet. It may not be as fast as MTN 5g but it's fast enough for many people. Here is the video link

These are decent speeds especially for Unlimited. Which is not very common in Nigeria. However, the startup/equipment costs of $600 will make it NOT a feasible option for most. I expect that $600 cost to come down after some time though. Good option anyway, as data usage continues to explode, with streaming, IPTV, etc.

People living in very close quarters, such as apartments, should be able to share one connection though. By connecting a switch to the main router and hard-wire to the other units.
this is the only way to make it easily affordable. People living in a block of flats should contribute money for the kit and also share the monthly subscription payment. The starlink kit will be connected to a flat that has inverter for 24 hours electricity and the flat owner should pay less for supplying the electricity needed to power the starlink hardware

Speedtest to UK and US locations now added to my First Post.
nice. Online games usually connect to best available servers close to your location. That means playing online games from Nigeria will automatically connect to UK servers which will get you 128ms ping when using starlink internet(according to the picture you posted). That's better than 140-160ms I normally get when I play online games using Airtel. I will post a picture of the ping I get depending on the server location I connect to when playing online games using Airtel internet

PhonesRe: My SpaceX Starlink Internet Experience In Lagos, Nigeria by Bonzojoko:
skyo78:
Hello.. Could you please do another speed test. But this time change the server to UK and USA. Your current ping to lagos is showing 60ms.

This is for those of us that play online gaming.

Thanks
my Airtel internet ping/latency is usually 40-60ms to Nigerian servers but when I play online games which connects to foreign servers, I get 140-160ms. The Nigerian starlink internet user said on his YouTube video comment section that he gets around 50ms ping when he connects to Nigerian servers.. that means online games which connects to foreign servers will also have a ping of around 150ms when using starlink internet from Nigeria. Online games are playable when the internet ping is below 200ms but the lower the ping, the better. Ping above 200ms causes lag which messes up your gameplay. If only game developers will create African servers for their games but I guess Africa is useless to them. South African gamers are also complaining they get 150ms while playing online games which is unfair considering you are playing against European gamers who normally get 20ms ping.

What does latency mean in this case pls
internet latency is the time delay or how long it takes data to travel between the sender and the receiver. It is more important in online gaming

i get your point, my point is they probably wouldn't notice the speed reduction unless if those 50 people are gaming and downloading and streaming at the same time
you are right but what do you think the average Nigerian student will do when he knows he has unlimited internet? My guess is to keep on downloading anything possible. May even start selling downloaded games/movies

The new Starlink device I received has no LAN port. It is only Wifi.
that's exactly what I said. You need to buy a separate starlink Ethernet/LAN port adapter

wifi extender is very very cheap, bros you keep mentioning speed after i told i and 4 other share 3mbps through wifi, starlink run on power supply same as all Fibre connections here we use inverter and sometimes all this ac/dc PowerBank for a whole street to you use starlink just budget 800-$1k and service is not fully operational yet hence the slow speed
I am not saying the speed is low. The speed is decent. I am saying the speed will drop when many devices like 50 phones connected to the starlink router are using the starlink internet at the same time

its very easy talk to people in your street tech friends etc, i and 4 other roommates are sharing 3mbps speed and we stream Netflix on 720p.... up to 2 or 3 streets can share one starlink which is the main joy.... infact most universities in Nigeria wont need more than 5
the only way one starlink router can supply more than one street is by getting WiFi extenders or hard wire it to multiple 3rd party routers for which you will need to buy a separate starlink Ethernet adapter because the original starlink hardware doesn't come with Ethernet port. One starlink router is not strong enough to connect to devices far away from the starlink router. Starlink Ethernet adapter only has one Ethernet port so you will also need to buy Ethernet switch to initially connect to the starlink Ethernet adapter after which the other 3rd party routers will now connect to the Ethernet switch. Starlink hardware runs on constant electricity so once nepa takes light, the whole Street will lose internet connection. Also internet speed generally drops when many people are using it at the same time so don't expect the advertised internet speed of 50-250mbps(6MBps-31MBps) when many people are using it at the same time.

Not really.
30k plan on MTN is for 200GB, and I've used more than that this past week alone updating games on my PS5.
exactly my point. I also play games on pc and there is always an update every month of up to 20gb per game. By the time you update games like call of duty warzone, apex legends, Fortnite, halo infinite, overwatch 2, you would have exhausted over 100gb in a week. Installing new games can also take up to 40-60gb per game depending on the game. Let's not talk about streaming netflix and watching YouTube videos. I use over 300gb per month which is how life should be if Nigeria is working. Nothing can beat starlink in Nigeria when it comes to unlimited reliable internet with decent speed and latency. I will gladly subscribe to starlink internet if there was an option to pay in Naira at bank dollar exchange rate. I don't want to pay in USD with a dollar virtual card at black market exchange rate. That would be too expensive for the $600 starlink hardware kit

If you subscribe 32k data on mtn every month, you can't finish it in a month.
So it's more or less unlimited.

Plus other benefits you will get on calls.

Elon musk is a scam.
it depends if you are a heavy data user. Some of us use up to 500gb of data monthly. Non heavy data users should have no business with starlink internet

Imagine placing it In hostel and attempting to charge students a little fee per usage? You understand the direction I am goinghuh??

2000 for a fair usage would sell very fast in naija. I want to key in early enough bfor the market becomes saturated.
a maximum of 128 devices can connect to starlink router at the same time. The further away you are from the starlink router, the lower the internet speed. Also the more devices connected to it, the lower the internet speed if those devices are actively using the starlink internet. Starlink internet kit(dish and router) also needs 24 hours electricity to function just like DStv. No electricity, no starlink internet

with the amount you are paying for starlink, I will get unlimited data on MTN
how will you get MTN unlimited data for $43 per month? To me, starlink remains the best internet option in Nigeria if Elon musk will allow us to pay in Naira at bank exchange rate. I currently use Airtel 4g router data plan which offers 200gb for 20,000 Naira monthly. If you exhaust your 200gb before the month ends, you will receive 10gb data daily till the month ends. Airtel internet speed is 48mbps(6MB/s) where I reside and is unstable because sometimes I have drop outs that lasts up to an hour. With starlink internet, you get true monthly unlimited stable internet with average speed of 100mbps(12.5MB/s) for $43(approximately 20k using bank exchange rate) per month. The only problem with starlink internet is the high cost of the starlink kit($600) and mainly the fact you can't pay in naira

This is extremely poor for the price it costs. MTN 4G is better. I don't want to talk about the 5G
this can't be 4g. Has to be 5g. The main advantage starlink internet has is being unlimited. If only Elon musk will allow us to pay for starlink kit and subscription in Naira.

$43 (~₦19k; ₦32k) monthly for unlimited data is not bad. Way cheaper than the competition.

Assuming an average speed of ~150mbps (18MBPS) for which FiberOne and iPNX charge for ~₦62,000

However, the installation costs are steep: $600 (₦267,000 at bank rate; ₦450,000 at black market rate) vs ~₦50,000 for FOB or iPNX.

Reliability is a concern here though - would it work well in bad weather? Rains would start next year so I'll be waiting for your feedback by then.

Thanks for sharing.

PS how do you pay for subscriptions? Naira or dollar card?
works well in rainy/stormy weather from YouTube videos I have seen. Speed may drop but no internet connection drop outs like MTN or Airtel though Nigerian rain can be terrible

Please I have many questions. How did you exceed the $20 monthly limit when using Nigerian ATM cards? If you didn't use Nigerian ATM card to pay, how did you pay for the starlink kit and subscription in USD? Also can you test online gaming using starlink internet and see if it's smooth. I use Airtel to play online games. Sometimes it's smooth but most times, it lags.
What is the average latency like? I can see 60ms from the picture you posted. Is it always around 60ms?
