The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja will today hear the case filed by the Legal Defence and Assistance Project (LEDAP) seeking to compel the President, Vice President and Ministers to declare their assets.

The suit is demanding the Code of Conduct Bureau to perform its constitutional duty to demand declaration of assets from those public officials. LEDAP contended in the suit that the failure of President Goodluck Jonathan to declare his assets amounted to a breach of the Constitution under Section 143 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

In its response to the case, the Code of Conduct Bureau filed a counter affidavit claiming that the President and his deputy have already declared their assets to the Bureau and that they are not allowed to disclose the declared asset publicly.

The Bureau stated that the plaintiff had earlier requested for the copies of the asset declaration form by the president and his deputy, which was declined because there is no law authorising the Bureau to disclose declared assets to the public.

The hearing of the case resumes today at Court 5.

President Jonathan had on June 24, 2012 said during public media chat with the Nigeria Television Authority that he will not declare his asset publicly.

The truth is Nigeria, I sometimes wonder if even dividing the country would have any effect. In that same Bayelsa we have the Ijaws- Tompolo up against another group. The ethnic divides are just much. We need to move away from politics of ethnicity and identify people who can do the job and put them there.

I'm for any credible acheiver. Let's watch and see but if APC doesn't get the right permutations, they would lose what would have been their closest chance of wrestling power from PDP.

I just hope they don't bungle it...

The burden is on you, Buhari and all your cohorts to provide evidence that he did not make such statement. By your own admission, he said it in Hausa and it was "literally" translated into English. You are being duplitous, you admitted that he said it in Hausa but you want omonuan to present a video of him saying it in English.

Does it really matter in what language he said it? The fact remains that you have admitted that he made such a reprehensible and outrageous statement. The statement is uncouth and despicable. He does not have what it takes to be a president of a country like Nigeria where he thinks that he can by fiat, control and stabilize oil prices.

He needs to maintain his position as the Khalif of the Buharistan Caliphate and leave the presidency alone. It is way above his capacity. There is no doubt that he has good intentions but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
