lomomike: ^^^^ after I read the part where the fuel tank was dropped, I gave up on this thread and stopped giving advices here. The Op is negligent about his car (no insult intended) hence the mechanics are using his camry as 'specimen X' in their trial and error experiment.@Lomomike Please can you tell me how I'm negligent? The tank was filled with half water, half fuel. This damaged the fuel pump which we had to replace. All attempts to clear the water without dropping the tank failed and so they had to drop the tank to do a thorough cleaning. I monitored every step of this repairs. How does this translate to Negligence pls? |
sultaan: I want to believe that was done for water in the tank.Exactly sir......they brought the tank down to empty it of water. Although I don't know how water managed to enter the tank though. |
So does that mean in the whole of Nairaland nobody can help to solve this problem? |
But why is Siena not responding to this my thread? What of ikenna351? Gazzuzz? I know Lomomike has tried......Siena abeg you guys should help a brother na? |
Okay now I just started the car.....the CEL is back on!!! |
@Mayor exactly. I need a know-how on how to go about those codes. The dude that scanned the car only understood the P0301 code. He couldn't figure out what the other codes at all because he was telling me to tighten my air filter, that that could be responsible for the other codes. So obviously he doesn't have an idea what those codes meant. But from the little online research I've done, people with similar issues ended up replacing their charcoal canister!! My fear! |
Can I get that charcoal canister at Ladipo? |
lomomike: All these bolded, I don dey fear o! Because if your car is a toyota and these parts are defective na gobe for pocket o! By the way, you said your petrol tank was dropped due to dirt and impurities, have you bothered checking the fuel filter too?No I haven't checked the fuel filter....just that the fuel pump has been replaced before. But now what I noticed is that whenever I put off the ignition the fuel guage pointer does not drop to zero immediately until after parking the car for a while before it drops, I don't know if this is normal. |
CityNG: So what I tell people is that having a scanner is just one part of the solution, you will still have to interpret it.The diagram under the hood is just a schematic drawing, not easily understood. If anyone can guide me on how I can locate the wiring to the vacuum system will be greatly helpful. I understand they are all underneath the car. Also where is the Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV) located? They unmoumnted my gas tank recently because it contained water and some impurities. ....so they had to drop it and clean it....could this be the cause of the problem, maybe in an attempt to reinstall the tank they tamper with the charcoal canister. Do I have to replace the entire Charcoal Canister Assembly? |
CityNG: Does the scanner you have not tell you what those codes are?@CityNG Please can you direct me on how I can study the schematics for the vacuum lines.....where are they located? Pls advise please...... Although the check engine light has not come back on yet but when I scanned the car today using my own personal OBD Scanner with Torque app......it brought up the same set of codes again, except that the "P0301" code no longer showed up. I guess that has been taken care of.....I will attach a screenshot of the other codes for you guys to see shortly: All I need now is the best advice on what to do please.
|
Please what is the colloquial term for the charcoal Canister? You know most of these mechanics don't know the real technical names of these parts.....they usually have their own local names for them..... Like most of them refer to Catalytic Converters as Catalysts. |
lomomike: Ehen, oga mi no vex I went to run some ish... ah thank GOD your codes don clear. But drive the car well and rescan it again. As for the fixing, how your pockets, hope e no too get holes after these fixtures o?How long do you think I will drive before the codes get thrown again? Cos seriously that $450 ain't child's play meehn!! |
mayor2013: Do you over fill your tank like I earlier asked?Though you have started well but you haven't still tackled the main culprits. Well have you rescaned the car? To see what codes you still have leftSometimes I overfill but not out of intention but due to overzealous fuel station attendants. Although Nowadays I no longer fill my tank to the brim.....I can always tell how many litres of fuel inside the tank from the position of the fuel guage on the instrument cluster. So I just buy an amount of fuel just enough for my destination. Yes, after all these, we re-scanned and the message we got from the computer screen was "No pending codes found". |
Bossmd: Maybe I don't know the Technical description. That bolt on the right of the Vacuum pump close to the Brake Fluid was the one replaced. |
mayor2013: Am interested in this case, what do you mean by evap housing. I want to believe you mean charcoal canisterMaybe I don't know the Technical description. See attached images pls
|
mayor2013: This code that you have especially the evaporative emission control system. Let me just hush and watch as the "op" goes on with his ride. I want to believe you over fill your tank when buying fuel to the extent of fuel gushing out of your tank. "Op" you would spend money for this code to be treated properly.Na wa ooh. EVAP this.....EVAP that. As for code P0301.....We checked the Spark plug on Position #1 and noticed it's intact. Since the spark plug is good....we narrowed our next culprit to the Injector Nozzles. So on checking it was noticed that the nozzle on Cylinder #1 was clogged (most likely the cause of the Car sputtering). So we cleared the Nozzles and refix the Nozzles. As for the EVAP codes: Well, we noticed that one of the bolts on the Vacuum pump was missing, the mechanic said that could be the area of the leak. We replaced the bolt. And finally we cleared the codes and added injector cleaner to the Fuel Tank. I just pray these problems will not return. Those EVAP codes are too many to understand. Where person wan start from sef? It is well |
Car scanned!! Here are the error codes shown: P0301 P043E P043F P2401 P2402 P2419 House over to you oh!! Lomomike, Gazzuzz I have you added......abeg interpretation oh! |
lomomike: You have a check engine light for 1 month and you keep driving you get mind. Your last engine change never tire you you wan change another engine? Thanks so much @lomomike. With all that you have just said i'm so scared to even start the car now let alone drive it. Please can you guide me on how I can do all this? I mean how can I check the Spark plugs, Spark coilparks, coil wiring harnesses? Where are these components located in the car? |
Good morning Nairaland, I have come to recount my experience yesterday evening along 3rd Mainland bridge. Let me start properly by giving the full details of my car as required by the house; My car is a 2007 Toyota Camry. You all know I replaced the engine a while back after the first one 'knocked' as a result of oil drain. Okay let me start this way, For like a month now my 'Check Engine Light' has been on but I have not got a place where I can scan it to know what the problem is. So since it's not affecting the driveability of the car I have been driving it like that since then. So yesterday evening while I was driving on 3rd Mainland bridge, something strange happened! For the first time I noticed the Check Engine Light started blinking...... (this has never happened before). It will blink for some seconds, then stay on, and after a while it will start blinking again. Then sudden after like 5 minutes the car started jerking while on motion, like it won't accelerate well......Aaah.....I was just praying in my mind that let this car not come and stop here oh!! Because it was late. It will jerk like that for a while and then move again.......after some distance it will start jerking again. A striking thing I noticed was that when it is jerking, the Check Engine Light is also blinking at the same time. So I just put a call through to my Mechanic. ....the mechanic said it could be due to things, he said it could be one of the plugs that is faulty OR the hose that is supplying fuel to the injector is blocked by dirts. I am calling on all Experts here to please scrutinise my story and advise me accordingly please. I won't even drive the car for now until the problem is solved. But before I visit the mechanic please I need very honest advice from the house please. What could be wrong with the car to cause this intermittent jerking? And what is the cause of the blinking check engine light? House help please. Thanks. |
tsiriman: Almuhamsay on warff road, there is a Honda sign on top of the shop and it's beside Fahimta(if I remember the name correctly) community bankThanks tsiriman, Even though I did the wheel balancing at a Total Service Station, I later noticed the steering still vibrates at 100km/hr. So on my trip to Kaduna I stopped over at Almuhamsay for them to look up the car. They have a screen that displays the accuracy of each tyre. Lo and Behold, they did the job and now the steering no longer vibrates at all. To be candid if your steering vibrates at high speed, the problem is inaccurate wheel balance. The reason the problem persists for some people like myself after the so called wheel balancing has been done is because it was not properly done. Beleive me, if it was properly done just like I did mine today, the vibration will cease. Cheers.

Funny I swear!!! ![]() |
fm7070: If it is the new drivers licence, you can use the photocopy. Preferably, coloured photocopy.I heard something like dat....how will they check on the highway? So if they find out its not genuine what will happen? |
edozie04: In as much as I do not wish for this to happen to anybody I just hope that yours won't sound like a nollywood scriptReally its not funny at all so don't get me wrong. Its the part where you said the guy that drove the car jumped out and run that looked dramatic. Sorry for the damages though, especially for the unplanned expenditure. |
edozie04: I went to a police station yesterday and the wood the police people used as their entrance broke making my two back tires to fall inside the gutter,a man I supposed to be a police officer came claiming that we should push the car while he drives it,little did I know that he can not drive and when we pushed he rev the car hitting the police gate and as soon as he knew what happened he quickly opened the car and ran away, the police people denied knowing the man,I suspect he is an officer,I would really appreciate the car gurus here to come and link me up with a good mechanic as my mechanic is very dubious and cannot be trusted with a big work like thisIn as much as this is not funny, it sounds like a Nollywood Script ![]() Anyway this is a small work for experienced Lagos Auto Artisans. Well I should think your radiator is damaged.....hhmmm I just hope and pray with you that your transmission is safe....that leaking transmission fluid is a bad sign. That man has caused you some serious expenses if I may say. You may be coughing out like 200k to fix this, Oven paint inclusive. |
GAZZUZZ: I don't think you are being fair to mayor2013, not every one scans with a 14k scanner, some of the scanners I use cost more than 350k, and its not just about scanning a car, interpreting the results requires knowlede and experience you can't develop it over night. Buying your own scanner is a good idea infact I encourage every car user to have one, but a 25k scanner will only scan your engine module in most japanese cars, scanning transmision might be vague in some cases.@Bolded, Not at all, No pun intended. It's our money sir....everyone goes for the best shots economically. @Gazzuzz with all due respect are you aware that there are now new age Bluetooth OBD Scanners that work with Smartphones? Some even work with Diesel powered Automobiles. The world has gone digital. They come much more cheaper than their analogue wired counterparts and very efficient too. Some cost as little as $35! Except I'm a core engineer who's into Full time Auto diagnostics, I don't see myself shelling as much as 350k on Car Diagnostic tools. So if this 350k tool diagnoses a faulty O2 Sensor, will it buy and fix the O2 Sensor automatically? If it won't then is it worth that much? |

mayor2013: Are you in lagos? Call this number to run a scan 08165520837 or 08156087872Honestly I think it's better for one to just get his own scanning tool. I called that no for scanning and the dude said he'll collect 7k just to scan my car, imagine. It's not as if he will fix any issues oh, and the scanner may not even interprete the codes sef. Taah! Some Scanners cost just 14k which will become your property and you can use anytime. |
GAZZUZZ: This is most likely what is happening with the idle on your Camry: Over time their is a build up of deposits in the throttle body that will slowly restrict air flow. If nothing was done the engine idle would slowly become lower and lower. The computer will adjust for the lower idle using its idle control system. Over time the computer will "learn" a new "base idle". When the battery goes dead or is disconnected the new "base idle" is lost from the computer memory. Once the "new" base idle is lost the engine will not idle properly until the computer can relearn the new base idle. This should happen much sooner than 100 drive cycles. One way to speed this process up is to clean the deposits from the throttle body using a spray type parts cleaner and a rag. With the throttle body clean the base idle should be much closer to the computers original base idle and the engine should idle almost normally until the computer can relearn its "new" base idle".Where is throttle body located sir? And is it a DIY thing? |
Triska: Hello My Good People,Lol......Bros you need Original driver's license whenever you are behind the wheel. FRSC go use u do scapegoat if dem catch u with photocopy oh |
GAZZUZZ: When replacing engine its best to scan vehicle and callibrate, the engine you bought is 2AZ but might have slightly different parts from the original engine. E.g a camry 2007 from canada or the u.s will have slightly different parts from a camry produced in asia.So in this case if vehicle was manufactured in USA and engine came from Japan and no callibration was done prior to mounting the engine, what are your likely suggestions on things that should be done now since vehicle wasn't callibrated to match engine configurations? |
GAZZUZZ: Did you recently change battery? Or disconnect battery before this happened? If yes, keep driving for a while your car will Re-learn and the rpm will correct its self without you noticing, also scan to see what the dtc code refers too, finally listen for any hissing sounds and vacuum leaks.@Gazzuzz is it also possible tha due to the engine change the car ECU is trying to get accustomed to the new engine? |

I'll run a scan tomorrow morning and get back to the house on the dtc codes found. Thanks. |
