ArchieTaylor:Yes we do have problems with our refineries. Bad governance of many years made them moribund. Yes it's bad for a gigantic country like Nigeria, so you can laugh over it all you can, but trust me your jests are gonna be short-lived. One of the biggest refineries in the world is already underway. With a production capacity that will see Nigeria exporting it's excess by 2018/2019, just two years from now. The construction has numerous effects including the generation of 12000MW electricity as well as fertilizers and many other derivatives for export. This time it's not a government venture, it's private and the antecedents of the owner have always proved successful and timely. |

What I do know is Nigeria has her uniqueness too |
This thread is gonna take forever obviously |
But really Nigerians are just too naturally gracious, industrious, flamboyant and proud. These intrinsic characteristics can be actually intimidating to our African brothers. It's quite understandable. |
All just sneak peek into Nigerian residential architecture.

Nigerian Architecture

Some Nigerian architecture that are truly stylish.
|
gallivant:If doing the least includes accommodating many SA refugees in that period and even schooling them, then we are comfortable with that "least". And by the way, the architecture that fascinates you so much that you show off are what bore us here. Very apparent. |
NairobiWalker:Firstly if you gonna come for this argument again, do it like a civilized person devoid of insults. I'm not here for inane tantrums. By the United Nation's 1974 definition, a Multi-National Corporation (MNC) is an enterprise which owns or controls production or service facility outside the countries in which, they are based. With that, you don't even have to look far in Nigeria. An MNC doesn't have to come from the USA to make us feel good. Nigerians are progressively creating their own MNCs many of which are highly capitalized and gaining influence on the continent. GTBANK, First Bank, Dangote, GLO, Diamond, Aico, Oando, Zenith, Seplat, UBA to name a few all have their HQs here and are proudly Nigeria. Some are even listed on the London Stock Exchange. So MNCs with headquarters in Lagos isn't farfetched here |
MPSA:I see you just wanna clown around. If that's your way of having fun, knock yourself out okay? ![]() |
MPSA:Quite funny. "The Lagos that you know" like you've ever been there? But it's your choice to believe what you want even when the truth smacks in your face. |
And you can have a peek into the world regional powers as described by analysts and political academia.
|
PissedYagami:Of course not all headquarters can be in Lagos. Presence is enough and that's where the revenue comes in. And there's really not much fuss about UN having African HQ in Kenya. UN and the likes, though listed, are mostly nonprofit organizations. |
Here is an incomplete list of some multi-nationals in Lagos Nigeria numbering up to 50. Notice that I screened out many Nigerian multinationals like Dangote and many others. Pardon the numeric. 1. And so is Lagos in Africa.
|
LA has more highrises but it usually doesn't end there. London is a more influential global city. LA and London
|
MPSA:Actually from these pictures, Abuja looks like Cape Town. The Bloemfontein you posted looks like Kano. Yes nigga was right. Lagos comes only after Jo'burg on the continent, it's a well publicized fact. All those small cities you mentioned can never be as influential as Lagos, a city's influence doesn't centre around buildings and tourism alone (which Lagos too as its fair share), you have to talk economy, arts, media, siting of multinationals, financial institutions and headquarters, commerce, fashion and entertainment, airports and seaports, culture and sports etc. If you have been to these two cities; London and Atlanta or even LA, you'd know that the later cities are highly developed with regards to tall buildings and super highways compared to London. London only has 18 buildings taller than 100m compared to 35 in LA. But you know what? They aren't still as influential as London. In America, only New York rivals London. London without much skyscrapers as LA or New York still houses the biggest and the most financial institutions on the globe. It is a world Fashion and Entertainment Capital alongside Paris, the culture and the monarchy have so much influence that transcends the Americas. Lagos is in an analogous position on the continent. Like in London where the skyscrapers are not concentrated in just one place( Canary Wharf and the main City), Lagos has concentration of highrises in Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Ikeja and now, the developing Eko City. Lagos has a monarchy, one of the most respected in Nigeria. Lagos is the fashion and entertainment capital of the continent with the annual Lagos Fashion and Design Week usually broadcast on the continent and in Europe. Lagos Commerce is just too big. Media, one of Nigeria's strongest points all have a huge concentration in Lagos. She probably has the highest number of multinationals on the continent only second to Jo'burg. Lagos is art and culture, the yearly December count down, Eyo festivals and modern carnivals come to mind. Lagos is sports with 3 stadia, annual hosting of beach soccer, basketball tournaments, indoor games such as the largest monopoly tournament on the continent etc. Lagos, with two airports, has a third one underway at the Lekki Peninsula. Abuja is to Nigeria, what Pretoria is to SA. Abuja has a big political influence on the continent alongside Pretoria and Addis Ababa. I dare say in recent years, Abuja has the biggest. The UN has often lined up behind Abuja on major African issues than Pretoria. Abuja and Pretoria are still neck on neck over who represents Africa on the continent. It's not a small plight. Back to Lagos, she will continue to be more influential than those smaller SA cities. Jo'burg is the only and biggest competitor. Over the coming years, the picture will be clearer. Just keep your fingers crossed |
Muafrika2:Welcoming to tourists. Charisma as individuals. Care to explain the similarity? |
Dunno if this has been brushed. MEDIA Nigeria owns African media. In quality and quantity. Okay South Africa is great too. From their news platforms SABC ENCA and CNBCA (started from South Africa). But Nigeria has BIG and developed screens too like TVC ChannelsTV AIT as well as numerous radio stations some of which are the most listened to on the continent. Print media such as The Punch, Sun, Nation, etc are big and have great online presence. They all make up a big part of the Nigerian economy. Then of course, online media. NAIRALAND, LIB, and a bunch of others. If any country rivals Nigeria in quality media, that has to be South Africa, definitely not Kenya. Throwing it open |
iblawi:Except in marathon and wildlife, your wait will be endless bro |
Muafrika2:Charisma is given by a physical ability to influence and attract. I feel Nigerians have this most on the continent |
ArchieTaylor:Sorry, your sarcasm is weak. It's not an analysis, it's stating the obvious ![]() |
Fun fact. Nigerian girls are the most beautiful on the continent ![]() And the guys are the illest, best charisma. |
gallivant:Good. I hope you won't resort to cheap insults too so we can have a meaningful convo. See here in what you posted are the momentum i.e change of individual cities with respect to improvement in real estate. If the argument was about where the most improvement is taking place, you could put this up. Nairobi is above New York in that list. But we know it'll be a tall dream too early to compare the level of development of real estate in both cities. That also explains why Cairo, Jo'burg and Lagos are missing in the list. Although I believe they should all strive to be there too. "Nairobis real estate is fast developing" - very fine! "Nairobis real estate is as valuable as Lagos" - nah try harder. And by the way, here is the objective of the post you cited.
|
iblawi:The nigga is only adept at twisting facts to suit his warped mind. And I realised going down that lane with him will only start to make one look as stolid as he is. ![]() |

they are good for you not me
