Dayo looked at his father and said

" wait,was she a twin?" He asked in a confused tone

Funmi had no idea of what they were talking about ,she didn't know his motive behind that question so she answered innocently

"Yeah ,she was a twin,my mum was kehinde Rosalyn while her twin sister is the person dad his talking about,although she's late now"

Dayo couldnt hide his joy as he shouted

"Thank you God!," he shifted his gaze from funmi to his father then continued " but dad ,how come you didnt know that"

His father collapsed into his chair " i am honestly speechless ,how come i didnt remember that,.......although she told me she was a twin but i never got to meet her twin sister because she was in lagos with her aunty while all that happened,......you see dayo,lets just thank God that its not what we were thinking"

Funmi was wondering what that meant ,she also wondered why dayo shouted thank God ealier,she was curious to know what he meant by that so she leaned over towards him and whispered to his ear

"What is going on?, does your dad have anyting with my family?"

Dayo didnt know the answer to give ,he didnt know if he was to say that there isnt or there is,he grabbed her hand swizzed it and said to her

"Funmi i dont know how to say this i swear"

Funmi was scared as her voice was visibly shaking"what is it dayo,please tell me"

Dayo looked at his father" dad i cant say it please i dont have the nerve to"

Dayo's father looked at funmi ,took a deep breath and said" mary is dayo's mother"

As some of you know me ,i don't really like making my stories too long(you will notice that in the title) because i believe that at some point the reader will lose interest in the story,

“ good morning sir “ both of them said as they entered into the office

Dayo’s father was working on his laptop so he wasn’t looking in their direction while they walk in, he ,but he replied them without looking in their direction, dayo brought funmi closer so she could sit on one of the chairs in front of his fathers chair, while he sits on the other,

after working on his laptop for few minutes the father shifted his attention to them as suddenly he was shocked,he felt like he was seeing a ghost, the sight of her brought back lots of memories , for some seconds he was confused , he didn’t even know what to say , he finally found his voice as he said


“ good morning young woman , how are you”

Funmi was nervous , from his reaction when he looked at her she thought it was the usual resentment that people do show her when they just met, she stammered as she managed to reply

“ I am fine sir”

Dayo felt the tension between them so he stood up and walked toward his father, bent down and whispered into his ear,

“ I haven’t told her anything, I think you should just ask her your questions, and please her name is funmi”

The father nodded to acknowledging what he was sayin ,dayo walked back to his seat , he looked at funmi then made a sign for her to calm down, making her understand that he was in control
His father cleared his throat then said

“ is it funmilayo or funmilola “ he asked giving her a small smile

Funmi notice the smile as she felt a bit easier to answer his question

“ its funmilayo sir”

“ hmmm,funmilayo that’s nice, I hope you will be able to give my son some ayo”he smiled again

Funmi didn’t reply she was shy so she only nodded her head,dayo was smiling too from where he is sited

“so funmi where are you from if I may ask”

Funmi quickly replied” I am from obagun in osun state sir”

Dayo looked at his fathers face as fear grip him, but his father remain calm as he showed no expression

“wow, that’s nice, what a coincidence , I did my youth service in obagun, it was a nice time for me, do you stay there or you ….”

“ yes I live there sir”

“ wow , you must be familiar with the pa john’s family”the father asked
Funmi was happy, she was surprised to see that dayo’s father knows so much about her place and family, she gladly replied

“ yes sir, he is my grand father”

“ really? Or are you marry’s john’s daughter ?’

“ no sir I am Roselyn kehinde’s daughter sir”

Episode 27


Dayo kept looking at his dad,he didnt even know what to say to him,his dad moved closer to him and placed his hand on his shoulder ,then said

" i am sorry son"then swizzed is shoulder lightly

Uncle dele also tapped him on the other Shoulder then told him to let the issue go,

“ you are a man now, you don’t need to hold on to this for long,”

Just then a business call came in for his dad so he went to pick it at the other end of the room, it was like 15minutes before he came back.

"Dayo so you said this girl friend of yours is from osun state?" His dad asked as he walked back towards them

Dayo was feeling better now after a lot of talk from his uncle,so he replied

"Yes ,but i dont know where she stays in osun"

"Ok,we need to find out a few things from her,..is it possible for we to meet and have a little talk"dayo didn’t reply but only nodded his head to acknowledge

"I will be expecting a call from you tomorrow if it is possible" his father continued talking

Dayo left his father's office feeling sad, it wasn’t only the fact that his father hide everything about his mum from him that really upsets him, but because he had made him to commit something that could have been avoided, something he will always regret for the rest of his life,
He wonders how funmi is going to take the news if she finds out that they are siblings, she could be fall sick or even go ahead to terminate the pregnancy, and that would be something he wouldn’t like at all

“Goooooooood!!!!!!!” he shouted has he almost drove into a big pot hole that was on the road while he drives,

he quickly stepped on the brake to stop the car from moving, fortunately for him he was able to avoid the pot hole.


Dayo got home later that day and called funmi, when she asked him of how his day went , he had to come up with a long epistle of lies to cover up the main event that happened.


The next day of school was a Friday , lectures usually stops by 12pm, he was glad that the time table favored his plan, as it wouldn’t be easy to get funmi to leave classes for any outing, she doesn’t appreciate such attitude ,

so he planned on getting her to his father’s office after class.


Dayo made sure he acted like nothing had happened the previous day, he cracked jokes with funmi, in between the lectures they were having, he teased and even whispered in her ear that she’s more beautiful than ever , now that she is pregnant, they where having a little discussion about the best kind of hairstyle for guy should put on when dayo suddenly said

“ hmmm. Honey that reminds me, guess what I did yesterday”

Funmi looking serious, she replied” what is that dear”

“ I told my dad about you”

“ haaaaaaaaaa!!!! Dayo”

Dayo was laughing as he said” what now, why did you shout like that”

“ why did you tell him now nah,tell me, what was his reaction when you did” she was still looking serious

“ well he was upset but thrust me, I know how to calm him down, but the only thing is he insisted on meeting you”

Funmi wasn’t finding it funny at all as she asked” so when does he want to see me”

Dayo quickly replied” he said today”

“ haaaaaaaa!!!!!!” she shouted again

It was few minutes to 2pm when dayo and funmi arrived at his dad’s office,he had informed his dad about their coming so ,he was prepared for them, dayo and funmi came down from the car and he quickly lead her into the beautiful office building,

funmi kept looking around as she has never come across such a magnificent building before everything there was buzzing with class, ,

she kept looking around trying to get a glimpse of everything she walked by,they later got to dayo’s fathers office on the top floor,

she watched as dayo knocked on the door, her breathing increased , she felt like going back, no she wasn’t ready for this but just then she saw dayo’s hand opened the door,

he grabbed her hand with his other hand and lead her inside,

Dayo's father looked at him sternly, he wished dayo was still a teenager ,he would have beaten the hell out of him,this is the second time dayo will be disappointing him in months,he learned back in his chair after breathing in heavily then asked

"I always knew i made a mistake by making you too comfortable and now you have brought shame unto me,i knew what i went through when i was your age" he paused then continued by raising his voice

"and who the hell is the girl, your mother is dead and she left no other child behind,and you know that better " pointing to uncle dele

"Yes i told him that ,but he insisted that the resemblance was too much to be ignored" uncle dele replied

" dont mind him ,he is just an un serious boy,very wasteful, all he cared about is women and money"

Dayo murmured something but his dad didnt hear him,but was angered by it

"What did you say?, cant you talk,i said what did you say"

With anger in his voice dayo replied"i said if you had shown me who my mum was this kind of thing wouldn't have happen or don't i deserve to know who she was"

Uncle dele interrupted him" hey boy don't talk to your father like that,its rude of u"

But dayo waved it aside as he continued talking
"Am sorry uncle but i have to say this, he thinks he's helping me but he doesnt know that everyday i wake up in the morning i pray for her ,even though i dont know her" he started crying as he speaks

" do you think i don't need her?, if she was here she would have guided me on something's but instead you hide everything about her from me,...how would you feel if you were to find out about your mum like this" he brought out the picture his gave showed him

" this is the first time i will ever see what she looks like,and you wants me to be happy?,what crime have i ever committed to deserve this ,even if she was a prostitute i still deserve to know who she is....if i had known who my mother was would i have slept with a girl that is possibly my sister" at this time he was crying uncontrollably

Uncle dele felt pity for him as he stood up to console him, his father also stood up from his chair then walked slowly towards the office window that was behind his chair.

After like 10minutes of consolation from his uncle,dayo stopped crying and then his father turned to face them,

"Come and sit down dayo" he said

But dayo shrugged,he didn't want to go but his uncle persuaded him,so he moved to the seat,then his father felt remorseful as he said

"I understand how you feel boy,and i want to say .....i am sorry for keeping your mum away from you, i thought i was doing the best for you" he took a deep breath then continued

"You see,Mary your mum, was not a prostitute in fact she was a good woman, it all happened when i went for my youth service in obagun in osun state, is that where the girl is from?"

Dayo replied reluctantly " she is from osun state but i don't know where in osun"

"Ok as i was saying i was the only corp member in the village i was posted to and things became boring for me,i need someone to be with,it was then that i met your mother,she was a daughter to one of the farmers there,we became friends and in the process she got pregnant for me,....when i found out that she was pregnant i was scared i didnt know what to do, i had to accept the pregnancy,....


by the time she gave birth to you,i was through with my nysc, and since i had accepted the pregnancy i had to go back to the village when she gave birth to you,in fact she was very young then ,very young,.....

i was not having any job then so i decided not to take her along with me to the city but when things changed for me and i began to get good money,i mistaking listened to the advice of some friends i was keeping then,they told me that ......

an uneducated woman like her can not be my wife if i want to succeed in this field, and i stupidly listened to them, i went back to the village when you were 1 year and some months then told her i was going to take care of u better in in the city ,i told her i wanted you to start school early but not there in the village and i promised to come back for her in few months,but i refused to.....


3 years later i got a message from a friend that i still keep in touch with in the village the she had died, ..she died of a small illness, and since then i have made a promise to my self not to remarry ..........

it is not like i don't want to tell you,but you wouldn't understand much if i had told you then,and you could hate me,so i decided to wait till you are old enough to withstand any pain my wrong doings myth have caused you.

Dayo was looking at his uncle’s face and wondering if he was drunk ,his temperature was increasing, he didn’t understand what was happening,


”funmi is my mother? how is that possible ,
wait uncle where is this mother of mine?” he asked in a confused way


His uncle was becoming unsettled to so he moved away from the fire then grabbed a nearby chair so he could sit down then said


“ the last thing I heard about her was that she passed on but I don’t know if your father has any other information that is different from mine”


“ any other information? I thought you guys do everything together, like you know everything about each other”


“ not everything…… so what happened to the person you called your girlfriend ?”


“ she’s pregnant for me”


His uncle stood up from the chair , looking confused, he thought of what he could say for some minutes the finally he asked


“ and you are sure that she’s the one in the picture”


“ am very sure uncle, the worst thing is they have the same tribal mark, uncle does my mum have tribal mark”


“sure she does, I knew her very well, those days when she had your pregnancy,……what is really confusing here is that , when we went for her burial when she passed away I.e I and my brother, we specifically asked what we could do for any child she left behind but they told us she had no other child apart from you”

“ o my God” dayo said , he was almost in tears


“I think your father needs to know about this as soon as possible, I will call your daddy now to tell him we her coming, just hold on while I change my clothes I will meet you at the car park"

Dayo nodded his head, he didn’t know what to say he just sat there wondering what is happening in his life.


After about 30minutes , there set out in his car, as his dad had told uncle dele that he will be at the office,both of them didn’t speak much during the journey to his dad’s office, they later got there about 45minutes later and went straight to the office.

“ egbon eka san” uncle dele said as they both walked into the room


“ dele fash fash, bawo ni” his dad replied with a big smile


But to his surprise his brother didn’t act too happy , he looked at dayo’s face too and noticed that he looked sad too,it was then that he knew something was wrong, his own mood changed too as he asked

“ what is the problem, why are you guys looking like there is war in town, what did you do this time dayo”

Uncle dele interrupted him” hun , egbon wait first , this matter has to be carefully ironed out”

“ok I am listening" his dad replied


“ egbon , during the burial of dayo’s mum what did they tell us when we asked of the other children that she left behind?’


His dad’s face changed , he didn’t expect that ,what he was going to be asked involved dayo’s mum, moreover what prompt that question, dayo must have been digging up things about his mum


“ ehn,you know what they said nah, that she had no other child “ he said looking at dayo with a cold face

“ and was that true?”uncle dele asked


“ yes now , you were there with me now, see I don’t like the way you are asking me this questions, go straight to the point and lets know how to settle it jare” his dad was getting inpatient


“ok egbon , don’t be angry, the issue is that dayo got his girlfriend pregnant, but that not even the main problem , the problem is that the girl look exactly like his mum, with everything including tribal marks”

Episode 24

Dayo became angry,he never thought that funmi could come up with such an idea,he moved his hands to her cheek,held it straight so she could be facing him then he said

" you dare not do that ok!, you didn't even tell me before concluding on that,that baby is mine ,and i swear to God, i will never deny that ,the baby is mine and we are going to have it,now where are the drugs you bought"

With her eyes still glued to dayo's she pointed to the direction of the bed were she left them,he released her and moved straight to the spot to retrieve them,he turned back to look at her then said,

"As from now on ,the responsibility of that baby and you is on me"

Funmi don't know what to say all she could do was just start to cry again,it took dayo another 30minutes to calm her down.

Later that night as dayo was driving home, he kept wandering if he hadn't made a mistake in his life by getting her pregnant,he wonders what his life will be like after his dad fined out,its either he accept they and the baby all he reject them all,

He wonders how he will tell him,he thought of calling his friends emeka and Daniel so they could go with him to his dad,but he waved it aside as he knew what their response will be because he has sidelined them since he started dating funmi,and more over the news will spread faster than he wants it to,and that could make life for him and funmi unbearable in school.

He continued thinking of how to go about it when an idea came to his mind,

"What if i tell uncle dele"he thought

Uncle dele was his fathers younger brother, a well known socialite and a business mogul ,he his like his fathers right hand man,dayo knew his uncle would be soft on him when he tells him,but getting his father to accept is the main problem,

" dad listens to uncle dele although they do argue on his ever partying and womanising behaviour but i hopes dad doesn't get too angry at this"

He picked up his phone as he drives then scrolled to uncle dele's number then dialled it,

"Hello omo mi" his uncles said with his tick voice

"Good evening uncle"

"Hmm dayo this one you remembered to call today ,what is happening,how is studies"

Dayo laughed" studies is fine uncle, actually i called because i am in trouble ni o"

" haahahaha,you have offended your dad abi?"

"Something like that sir, will you be home tomorrow sir"

"Yes,in the morning before 12"

" ok i will be at your place tomorrow morning sir"

"Ok i will be expecting you"

"How is business sir"

"Business is fine ,don't worry i will gist you tomorrow"

"Ok good night sir"

"Goodnight boy"

Dayo hung up the phone,feeling a bit relieved ,he continued to think of how to present it to his uncle the next day.

Around 7am dayo left his house for town, where his uncle stays,it took him about 1hr to drive there,
On getting to the gate of his uncles house,he met the gateman outside buying something's from a hawking woman,

"Haaa, oga dayo good morning o"

"Good morning john ,how you dey"

"Fine o" the gateman replied

"How far,daddy dey house?"

"Yes him dey for backyard"

" wetin him dey do there?"

" e be like say him dey burn some of him old books"

"Ok"

" dayo hurriedly drove into the large compound,came down from his car and went straight to the backyard,he met his uncle trowing some old papers into a small fire that was made at a corner,

"Good morning sir" dayo said as he approached him

"Hey my boy, showapa"

" am fine sir"

" if not because you are in trouble we won't see you here this early o"

" see uncle ,don't mind me jare, see i have really messed up gan this time around ,i hope dad will forgive me"

His uncle smiled and said" what did you do"

Dayo was about to start talking when his uncle stopped him

"Hold on first, can you recognise who is in this picture?" His uncle handed him an old photograph from the old books he was holding,

Dayo looked at the picture and was shocked,he didn't believe his eyes,he didn't understand what was happening, the person he is seeing in the picture is funmi,but what surprised him was that the picture looks very old and the dressing was old school but the face was just the exact face of funmilayo,

"Uncle please where did you get this"

"Do you know her?"

" yes this is my girlfriend that i came to tell you about"

"Your girlfriend how? That is your mother" his uncle said with a confused tone,.

Dayo drove as fast as he can to funmi's house,he had a strong feeling that something was wrong as he quickly parked the car,he rushed into the house only to meet her door locked,but on looking closely he found out that she only locked it from behind,

"She's inside " he said to himself

He knocked on the door severally but she didnt open,

"Funmi!!,funmi!!,funmi!" He kept calling but yet she refused to answer

His breathing increased as he kept calling and hitting the door,.

After about 25minutes of knocking ,funmi got tired ,she stood up from the bed and continued crying,she rested on the door as she heard dayo' voice tremble,she could tell that he was almost in tears as he called her name and hit the door,.

"Go away dayo" she finally said through a hole in the door,

Dayo was very happy to hear her speak," thank God she's ok " he thought in his mind

"Funmi!!,funmi!!, haa,thank God,see am not going away,please baby am sorry,i dont know what i did but what ever it may be ,i am sorry,i swear it will never happen again,please open the door"

Funmi busted into another round of tears as she reluctantly opened the door,dayo quickly rushed into the room grabbed her and drew her into his arms,hugging and petting her so she could stop crying,

The way she cried almost brought him to tears too, as he kept saying

"i am sorry baby ,am sorry ,please stop crying"

He felt her hand tighten against him as she tries to control herself from crying,

Dayo was glad that she was cooling down as he looked across the room,he saw a white plastic like thing that was place on the table in her room,he couldnt figure out what it is but as he looked closer,he realised that it was a pregnancy test tube because he has seen it with lizzy before.

suddenly his temperature began to rise,he was still holding on to her though,he didnt know what to do,
He lifted funmi's head and looked into her swollen eyes and said

"Baby are you pregnant?"

Funmi was shocked ,she knew she had not said a think of such to him,
"How did he know" she looked at him with more tears dropping from her eyes,

Dayo could tell what was on her mind,so he looked at the direction of the table and she followed his gaze and then realised how he knew

"Am sorry baby, i didnt want to tell you, i have been to the drug store close by i will get rid of it,i cant keep it" she began to cry again.

Dayo was disappointed on hearing that, he could not believe that funmi was a virgin ,he has never made love to a virgin before and he is scared to, he feels like he is taking advantage of her,
"no i cant do it" he thought to himself

he took a long confused look at funmi,not knowing what to do.

after some minutes he was about to lift himself up from her when she grabbed his hand and said

‘ what is wrong?

He nodded his head and said” nothing i am fine “

“ no you are not, tell me what is wrong dayo”

“ ok,ok, I cant do it ,I mean I cant have sex with you,”

Funmi was confused at the same time scared

" why please , is anything wrong with me?”

Dayo didn’t respond, so she raised her hand and sniffed her armpit, to see if she smells of odour, but no she wasn’t

Dayo took a deep breath then said


”funmi,you are a virgin, and I don’t feel comfortable with that,I feel like….”

Dayo was still talking when he felt funmi’s hand grab him by the neck and drew him closer, within seconds he was lying on her again, she drew his head closer like she had done before and whispered into his ears again,


“I want you to be my first dayo,please make love to me” she looked into his eyes then kissed him passionately


Dayo felt the sudden rise in his boxer again, the way she talked has aroused him, he was more hungry for her now than ever, he quickly kissed her all around her body before lowering himself into her, funmi gave a loud moan but he continued to thrust into her with his eyes closed, few minutes later dayo opened his eyes and was shocked to see tears flowing down her eyes.

Later that night after about 2round of sex,funmi told him she was going home,he tried to convince her to sleep over but she insisted on going so he took his car key and helped her to the car as she was feeling weak.

They got to her place around 10pm and with the way dayo saw her, he knew he couldn't leave her all alone for the night so he decide to sleep over at her place,
They both took their bath together and went to bed

One month later

Its been one month since dayo and funmi officially started dating,they were both crazily in love with each other,she still helps him with his work and she now allows him to give her gifts,

Normally weekdays are usually very stressful for them because of school activities but weekends are usually fun because she goes over to stay at his place and cook weekend soup just the way he likes it,then they either go out to watch some movies or stay home and have sex.

Dayo got to school one Wednesday morning and discovered that funmi wasn't in school,he tried calling her number but it wasn't going through,he became worried,he kept wondering what could have happened because she never misses classes,he kept thinking as lectures was on ,when he saw that he couldn't take it anymore he stood up and left the class for his car,

"Something might be wrong " he thought to himself.

Nice story line. Please do canvas for typos before posting as I came across many. And please I think the word "hang" has the past tense as "hung" not hanged. (hope my corrections does not offend you) aside from these few observations., you are doing a very good job. Do not be discouraged cos success does not come without glitches along the way.. It is the ability to move forward despite the hurdles that makes the successful ones stand out. As for Rachel.... Make I no talk, I have encountered such people in real life and I know what they are capable of. Following till the end.
