Just when Nigerians thought no lawyer will step out to defend notorious billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike a.k.a. Evans, Voice Olukoya Ogungbeje has proven an exception.
Ogungbeje who heads Lawflex Chambers and is the Chairman of Voice Vanguard, stepped out Wednesday.

He grabbed the headlines as he filed a fundamental rights suit on behalf of Evans, by dragging the Inspector General of Police, and three others before a Federal High Court in Lagos over Evans alleged illegal detention.

Joined as respondents are the Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner of Police Lagos State, and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command.
In his fundamental rights the confessed kidnapper is seeking a court order directing the respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him. He is in the alternative, seeking an order, compelling the respondents to immediately release him unconditionally in the absence of any offence warranting a charged.In the suit marked, FHC/L/CS/1012/2017, Evans is contending that his continued detention by the respondents since June 10, without a charge, or release on bail is an infringement on his fundamental rights.

He argued that the respondents ought to have charged him to court in accordance with the provisions of Sections 35 and 36 of the Constitution.
It was further argued that the alleged offence committed by the applicant (Evans) are correspondingly intertwined with the constitutional safeguards as provided under Sections 35 and 36 of the Constitution.

In a 27-paragraph affidavit in support of the motion deposed to by Evan’s father, Stephen Onwuamadike, it was averred that the applicant has been subjected to media trial without any court’s order by the respondents.Onwuamadike further averred that the media trial and news orchestrated by the respondents have continued to generate reactions in both print and electronic media without his son being afforded fair hearing before a court of law.
The deponent also averred that since his son’s arrest, all his family members have been denied access to him while media practitioners have been granted unfettered access to him.

The new suit has not been assigned to any judge and no date has been fixed for the hearing. Evans lawyer, who identified himself on Facebook as Voice Olukoya Ogungbeje had been involved in controversial cases in recent times.
In April, he filed a suit asking the Federal High Court to stay proceedings on the forfeiture of $43,449,947 (about N13billion), N23,218,000 and £27,800 (about N10.6 million) found in a flat in Ikoyi, Lagos.
He also sought an order directing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to furnish the court with a report of its preliminary or final investigation on the source of the money, its owner, and how the currencies got into the building.
Ogungbeje, in a motion on notice asked the court not to order a permanent forfeiture of the money since there are claims and counter claims as to its ownership by the Rivers State government and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA)and since the Federal Government had set up the Osinbajo panel to find the truth about the ownership of the money.
“This honourable court has the inherent jurisdiction under Section 6 (6)(b) of the Constitution to order and direct thorough investigation on the sources of the monies, their owners, the owners of the Osborne Towers where the monies were found and how they got into the building.
The case did not get anywhere as the money was later permanently forfeited to the Federal Government. Ogungbeje also once filed a suit in Lagos in 2014 asking for the reinstatement of Murtala Nyako as governor of Adamawa state.
This was after Nyako was impeached by the state assembly in July of the same year and the speaker of the state assembly had taken over. Again, the case hit the rocks. Ogungbeje claimed the Assembly’s alleged failure to serve Nyako personally with the impeachment notice violated his fundamental right to fair hearing as enshrined under Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution.After the court heard arguments from parties and judgment date fixed, Fintiri, through his lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN) urged the judge not to deliver the verdict.

The former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) president prayed the court to set aside all the proceedings conducted in the suit so far because his clients were not served with the suit in accordance with the law.
According to him, the court should strike out the entire action since the due process of law was not followed. Olanipekun, who was also representing Mammadi and the House of Assembly, argued that the originating processes were not properly served on his clients.

First week of June a video surfaced and later went viral online where a police man was seen exchanging fire with armed robbers that attacked a customer of Zenith bank,It started with questions of Where it happened,What became of the man(If he survived or not) and what measures were taken to commend his bravery But as time went on little by little updates came to spot light where it was learnt the man died and Zenith Bank did little or nothing likewise the Nigerian Police Force but towards the end of the second week the man's family triumphed according to what we heard and read it was said Zenith Bank offered his children scholarship till university level plus Nigerians donated close to eighteen thousand dollars for his family members.

Towards the second week of June ending,After several backlash on the Nigeria Police force for abandoning the brave policeman earlier spoken above on this post The Nigerian Police Force earned several praises from all Nigerians on the arrest of a notorious kidnapper who they have being on his trail since 2005.Different stories emerged about him spreading from week two till now (Week 4).In some of the stories that made front page it was gathered that his ransom demanded for his kidnap victims are not any less than a million dollars and he doesn't release his victims till the last kobo is paid.In week three we got the Evans saga continued where we read about how his last kidnapped victim escaped and it was his escape that led to the waterloo of Mr Evans and his fellow gang members.Later on we read a story of another victim that spoke about how he was kidnapped and he was shot,he nearly died due to his gunshot injury there was even a time his family members were called to swap him for his brother so he might go and receive good medical care but they objected later on for the fear of the exchange Deal being a trap. Still on week three we read about how his wife was interviewed,summary of her life with him many more news and jnformation came to spot light know Evans.

An upcoming artiste, T Shine Sisi Eko, has denied reports making rounds that he posted a message on his Facebook page threatening to kill Nigerians if government kills kidnapper, Chukwudi Onwuamadike (aka Evans).
According to the post, which the artiste disassociated himself from, he allegedly writes: “If the inevitable happens, and Evans is killed, I will take up the kidnapping business of Evans and kill an uncountable number of persons.”
The post also has a picture of Evans, which was captioned: “Nigeria is so useless.
I don’t know this man but I don’t just want him dead. And if stupid Nigerian government mistakenly kills Evans, I swear, me, T SHINE SISI EKO, will replace him and I must kill uncountable souls.
Bet me.” This post elicited negative reactions from wellmeaning Nigerians, who are currently calling on the police to arrest the artiste for making such inciting comments on social media in a country as volatile as Nigeria.
However, when Sunday Telegraph reached out T Shine to find out if he has any relationship with the notorious kidnapper, he vehemently denied writing those provocative comments.
“What have I done to deserve all this? Is this the end of the road or do I still have a long way to go? Please, Nigerians forgive me, I’m so sorry! The post was not from me. I swear with my life and blood!
I know nothing about Evans, please Nigerians, I’m on my knees, please, and I’ve been trying to log on to the account and still couldn’t. “I even gave the details to some of my Facebook friends for them to log in without any success.
Please my people, Nigerians and Africans as a whole, I’m so sorry,” T Shine grieved. In an emotional telephone call, T Shine accused hackers of using his Facebook account for such devious purpose. “I’ve no relationship with Evans.
Please help me, I beg you, no be me post that thing for my Facebook. I no fit write that kind thing. Na hackers do me this thing and I am not finding it funny, please help me beg Nigerians. “Help me beg them to forgive me. Several of my social media accounts have been hacked, and I keep opening new ones, because I need them to promote my music. I am finished,” he lamented.

The policeman who confronted a group of armed robbers that attacked a Zenith Bank branch in Owerri, has been reported dead..

The police, who revealed his name to be Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko, an officer with the Mobile Police Squad, revealed he died two months later from injuries sustained during the robbery..


The CCTV video that has since gone viral showed how Iboko shot at the car used by the robbers as soon as they entered the bank premises.

Iboko had emerged from the security post shooting and running to take cover. One of the robbers followed and shot at him. The robbers later retreated with what looked like a bag containing money they reportedly collected from a customer whom they had trailed to the bank.

The Imo State Police Command told Punch that Iboko died two months later while receiving treatment at an intensive care unit from injuries he sustained during the firefight.

The spokesperson for the command, Andrew Enwerem, explained that two other policemen were in the security post during the shootout and also sustained gunshot injuries.

Enwerem said;

“They were in intensive care for up to two months. The two survived but Iboko died. He was a sergeant and mobile policeman,”
After the video went viral, Nigerians have been wondering what became of the Iboko since the CCTV video did not show what happened after the robbers had escaped.

People have called on the police authorities to recognise and honour him.
