https://dailytrust.com/presidential-ticket-only-buhari-can-ask-me-to-step-down-yahaya-bello Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ST3xcllxubU The Governor of Kogi State and APC presidential aspirant, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has said only President Muhammadu Buhari can ask him to step down following the decision of party’s governors from the North that power should rotate to Southern part of the country in 2023. The governor spoke on Tuesday while fielding questions from the State House reporters after his meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said the APC governors of Northern extraction did not consult him when they took the resolution that power should shift to the South and that the resolution was not bidding on him. He further restated his opposition to the rotational presidency, saying that it didn’t give room for the emergence of a competent person to pilot the affairs of the country. Bello, who said he remained the leading candidate of the APC, claimed that there was a conspiracy and gang-up from the party’s Northern governors and some elite against him. He warned that any decision to exclude him from the ballot was a recipe for bigger trouble for the party, calling himself a leading aspirant that would win overwhelmingly if the process was transparent and credible. Bello said the APC would retain power at the center if it played by the rules, adding that the visit to the president was to clear the air on his actions. https://dailytrust.com/presidential-ticket-only-buhari-can-ask-me-to-step-down-yahaya-bello https://www.instagram.com/tv/Cegb8cSjAJO/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has given reason for the resurfacing fuel queues in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and parts of the country. Photo and Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=25h8JCk6hic IPMAN blamed the inadequate supply of petrol from the depots in Lagos for the scarcity. Mr Chinedu Okoronkwo, IPMAN President, who made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday was reacting to the resurfacing fuel queues in some parts of the country, especially in Abuja. Okoronkwo explained that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine had disrupted the smooth distribution of petrol and marketers and transporters are finding it difficult to bridge products to other parts of the country from the depots. He said: “The huge amount spent in running the diesel trucks to transport fuel is very discouraging because we are running at a loss. “The current N165 per litre pump price for PMS cannot fit in into the present realities without the pricing template being reviewed.” He, therefore, appealed to the Buhari-led government to look into the situation by providing palliatives to all marketers to restore normalcy to distribution or review the freight rate. “The palliative can be making diesel accessible for marketers at discounted rates so that we can easily transport products across the country,” he said. Fuel queues persisted in the Federal Capital Territory on Monday as motorists waited for hours at filling stations to get the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS. Several filling stations were closed while some of those selling the PMS stopped mid-day on the excuse that the product had been exhausted. At Kubwa, an NNPC station sold for three hours, before telling desperate motorists that its PMS had been exhausted. There was a long queue at the NNPC depot at the Central Business Area, with motorists complaining of spending several productive hours just to buy fuel. “I have spent three hours here. I left the office at 11.10 am but I am still here at past 2.18pm. It is a waste of manpower,” a businessman, Kayode Ishola, told The Punch. Several motorists who waited at Oando Filling Station, opposite NNPC depot at the Central Area, were not so lucky, as they were told at 3.40pm that fuel had been exhausted. Some of the motorists were forced to buy at N300/litre from black marketers who stood in front of the filling station, waiting for disappointed motorists to patronize them. A sad Mariam Okereke, who identified herself as a civil servant, said she had sought PMS in several filling stations but could not get. It was, however, gathered that some filling stations such as A.A Rano and Shafa filling stations were selling PMS as at 5.10pm on Monday. Generally on Monday, motorists moved from one filling station to another, hoping that their next move would yield positive results. Similarly, motorists accused marketers of adjusting their pumps in order to take advantage of the ongoing scarcity. A Christian Pastor, Samuel Igbinedion, who said he bought PMS at a filling station in Gudu on Sunday, said he spent nearly N15,000 to fill his tank, rather than the usual 12,500-N13,000. “Before the fuel scarcity, I would use 12,500 or N13,000 to fill my fuel tank, but I spent almost N15,000 to achieve the same purpose on Sunday,” he said, wondering why people were making money off the situation. https://twitter.com/Insidearewa/status/1534131758941319169?t=cQnWpBMftXgBWfGpaqADGA&s=19 https://insidearewa.com.ng/ipman-gives-reason-for-fuel-scarcity/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/fuel-queues-persist-in-abuja-marketers-accused-of-manipulating-pumps/%3famp

A Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled judgment for August in the extradition proceedings involving suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari. Justice Inyang Ekwo announced the date Friday after lawyers to parties made their final submissions. Lawyer to Kyari, Nureini Jimoh (SAN) faulted the extradition application filed by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and prayed the court to reject it. However, Counsel to the AGF, Pius Akutah argued in contrary, insisting that the AGF has complied with all necessary requirements for an extradition process. Akutah prayed the court to allow the application and order the AGF to surrender Kyari as requested by the United States (US). The hearing has been fixed for August 29, 2022. Recall that the US had since requested the Nigerian authorities to surrender Kyari in connection with his alleged link with the international internet fraud suspect, Abbas Ramon (a.k.a Hushpuppi).

A young man on Wednesday morning attempted to plunge to his death from the Lekki -Ikoyi link bridge in Lagos. A viral video on social media showed patrol officers of the Lekki Concession Centre and other bystanders preventing the man from taking the leap off the bridge. The patrol officers were seen trying to motivate the apparently inconsolable man after which he was handed over to law enforcement officials. Reasons for his attempted suicide remain vague. According to Section 327 of the Criminal Code Act, Attempted Suicide is a crime in Nigeria and is punishable by one year in prison. Any person who attempts to kill himself is guilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprisonment for one year. Similarly, section 231 of the penal code (applicable to northern Nigeria) puts forth: Whoever attempts to commit suicide and does any act towards the commission of such offence, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year or with fine or with both. Despite its treatment as a crime, several have scorned this move calling for it to be discarded. The House of Representatives February passed through second reading a bill seeking to provide compulsory counselling and community service for a period not less than six months for persons who attempt suicide. The private member bill sponsored by Hon. Francis Waive sort to amend the ‘decriminalise suicide and provide for a more rational punishment for the offence of attempted suicide and for related matters.’ Hon. Waive maintained that suicidal people are in need of effective treatments, counselling and assistance not punishment. He also argued that penalizing attempted suicide was hardly a prevention method instead the law should direct the appropriate authorities to assist the traumatized attempters. https://www.channelstv.com/2022/06/01/man-attempts-suicide-on-lekki-ikoyi-link-bridge/amp/

Senator Rochas Okorocha, former Governor of Imo State, has been granted bail at N500million by the Federal High Court in Abuja. Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a ruling on Tuesday, said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) did not show enough proof why Okorocha should be permanently detained. The judge, then, ordered Okorocha to provide a surety, who will sign and of the same amount. With this development, Okorocha now has less than 24 hours to perfect the bail in order to be able to attend the presidential screening of the All Progressives Congress. Okorocha, who is facing a 17-count charge bordering on conspiracy to steal N2.9 billion in public funds during his tenure as Imo State Governor, is number 17 on the list of presidential aspirants expected by the APC screening committee. The screening began yesterday and will end today. If attended, Okorocha will also have to clear his membership status, financial status, academic credentials, and other requirements for a presidential candidate as spelled out in the constitution of the APC.
