Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, has said the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, is better than Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.

The governor stated this during an interview with TVC, in response to a question on the chances of Tinubu, winning the 2023 presidential election.

"Who is better than him in the political terrain of Nigeria today?” Masari asked.

When asked about the chances of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, he said the former Vice President, though formidable, is a veteran loser.

“I think Atiku is a formidable force but our force is greater than him and he knows that. He is a veteran of contesting elections and also a veteran loser." he said.

The governor dismissed talks that 2023 is Atiku’s best chance of becoming President, saying, “That was said several times and it never came to pass and this one will never come to pass."

Asked if Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, was better, Masari said: “I don’t know him. Somebody who was a governor of Anambra? Go and ask a Katsina man and the politicians, how many of them know Peter Obi? We are talking about a presidential candidate of Nigeria, somebody who has cut all barriers – tribal, religious, regional, name it.”

When asked if Nigerian of northern extraction were buying into the Tinubu candidacy, Masari replied: “They’ve already bought into it. First of all, Bola Tinubu is not a new name in politics of Nigeria and we, the people of Katsina, know the role played by Bola Tinubu in 2015 for the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari. We know the support he gave in 2019 for the continuation of Buhari. We, here in Katsina, are not ingrates."

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said that the elections in 2023 will not be about connections, tribe, tribe or religion, but about competence, character and commitment to deliver.

Obi stated this at the 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association currently holding at the Eko Hotels.

Obi said, “Remember, the election we are going to have next year will not be about tribe, not religion, not connection, not entitlement, but about character, competence, capacity, and commitment to deliver.”

The presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, is also present at the event.

The vice-presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kashim Shettima, is also present at the event to represent the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu.

Pastor Carlton Funderburke posted a video apology on Facebook Tuesday after a clip shared on TikTok by the digital media company The Kansas City Defender showed Funderburke complaining to his congregation.

"I’ve spoken to those I am accountable to and have received their correction and instruction. I have also privately apologized to our church, who has extended their love and support to me.”

TODAY reached out to the church for additional comment and has not received a response.

In the viral TikTok video, Funderburke expresses his frustration with the congregation at Church at the Well, the non-denominational church in Kansas City, Missouri, that he founded with his wife.

“You see that's how I know you’re still poor, broke, busted and disgusted, because of how you been honoring me," he told them. "I’m not worth your McDonald’s money? I’m not worth your Red Lobster money? I ain’t worth your St. John Knit — y’all can’t afford nohow. I ain’t worth y’all Louis Vuitton? I ain’t worth your Prada? I’m not worth your Gucci?”

Funderburke later tells the congregation the wholesale store Sam's Club sells luxury Movado watches, according to the video.

“And y’all know I asked for one last year!" he said. "Here it is all the way in August and I still ain’t got it!. Y’all ain’t said nothing. Let me kick down the door and talk to my cheap sons and daughters.”

"That would’ve been my last day in his church," one TikTok commenter wrote.

"Preaching about material things!" another person commented.

Funderburke said in his apology that "the video clip does not reflect my heart or my sentiments toward God’s people, yet that's not discernible in the clip."

“No context could erase the words I used," he continued. "I apologize to all who have been hurt, angered or in any way damaged by my words."

He went on to apologize to his church and other pastors for any scrutiny his sermon brought upon them.

"To those who now know me because of this video clip I regret that your first impression of me is one of anger, hate and resentment," he said. "My actions and my words are inexcusable. I offer no justification or defense. That moment was mishandled and mismanaged. I deeply regret this moment."

Funderburke's apology comes a month after gospel singer Kim Burrell issued multiple apologies for her comments about "broke" and "ugly" people in a church sermon.

The meeting which was held behind closed doors at the Anambra State Governor’s Lodge in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area lasted for about two hours.

The reason for the meeting was not made known to journalists, as both leaders declined press interviews at the end of the session.

It was, however, believed that their meeting had to do with the presidential election of 2023.

Just a week ago, Soludo had in an address accused Igbos of playing politics with the heart, rather than the brain every four years. He said it was high time Igbo people came together to build a synergy with other parts of the country if they must take a shot at the presidency.

Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to Soludo, Mr Christian Aburime in a terse press statement on the visit failed to state their discussions.

Aburime said: “Both leaders had a mutual discussion behind closed doors. Afterwards, Mr Peter Obi commended Governor Soludo highly for the great job he is doing in Anambra State.

“Governor Soludo on the other hand welcomed Mr Peter Obi to Anambra as a prominent son of the State and wished him well on his Presidential bid as the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party.”
