Can any one please adv as to how to collate figures on Physically challenged graduates in Nigeria asides from speaking with the various higher institution. I am trying to find out approximately how many physically challenged graduates we have in Nigeria. This is to enable me start groundwork on employment and P/C graduates. Many thanks |
Threads like this re enforce the need to set up mechanisms/strategies to help get the physically challenged into work. I work with in the UK with an agency set up to help people with mental /physical challenges back into work. the programme has had resounding success because the government is fully supportive , note that the government pays us a finders fees for getting people back into, we work with the members/clients help them with training etc after a (diagnostic analysis of their needs/wants). The legislation governing disability is also adhered to, to a large extent and i suppose this makes it a lot easier for us to place people into, Nigerian Govt take note, To cut a long story short, I have mentioned a desire to do this sort of work in Nigeria and I have had people tell me not to worry as i will not have any buy in from the government, the lady who stated her lack of employment as a result of bad leg struck a chord, after all the hassles of education in Nigeria, and finding out that there are no prospects for employment, it is a real shame, i intend to revisit my write up and see how I can use my expertise in this field to better the lot of Nigerian graduates with health related issues gain employment, In the interim HR professional /recruiters should give a helping to the challenged where ever possible, The enabler, |
in the interim you can outdoor garden solars, 1k per light, pls see solar light in the advert section. regards |

hr diva, many thanks yet again, i have started some paper research and i see what u mean, it is going to be a mean task defining NIGERIAN CULTURE, The slant I was going to use was the degree of nepotism etc that still exists in hr in nigeria, (whilst i appreciate that candiadates may have the right requirements , the who you use scenario still works despite all the advancement in the hr world/professionalism, I was then going to argue that despite the fact no hrm policy/strategy supports this , it is ingrained in our system, the conclusion was going to be that imported HRM modules do not work in totality and that maybe we need to redefine HRM practices in nigeria based on the way we do things, this leads us to culture yet again, The above may appear to be far fetched but nepotism is common practice in organisations in nigeria and YET organisational goals are still met, issues like performance appraisal are deemed unfair by ees because they feel they are not able to tell it as it really is (power distance) Hofstede,s theory. i will be in nigeria in a few days and look forward to speaking to some HR professionals, In answer to your earlier question, i am writing my thesis , some 18 years after my first stab at it , I work and live in the uk am looking to relocate to nigeria in sept 09. kind regards brill |
HRDIVA, MANYS THANKS FOR YOUR SUGGESTIONS, MUCH APPRECIATED, Re your questions, The rationale behind the study for now is finding out the ramifications of watered down HR PRACTICES in Nigerian organisations, One hears horror stories about home grown hr practices, The result hopefully will be a recommendation for uniformed practices, and that HR SPECIALISTS will be able to cascade good working practices to Line Mangers etc, whilst I appreciate this appears simplistic it is a working paper and I will keep one and all informed about my findings. From the little research I have undertaken HR professionals come abroad, gain HR qualifications and find that they are not able to implement basic practices, for eg appraisals which entails openess between manager and subordinate does not work in a lot of firms in Nigeria because of the issue of respecting one's manager/and the repercussion of honest talk for example. I am not saying the effect of culture is always negative in some instance it can help re achieving organisation goals.I am looking at instances where it does not serve the purpose of the organisation, PLEASE JOIN AND DISCUSS HOW CULTURE AFFECTS YOU JOB AS A HR SPECIALIST/WORKER THANKS |
PLEASE HELP WITH THIS RESEARCH /STUDY WAHT ARE THE EFFECTS OF CULTURE ON HRM PRACTICES IN YOUR WORKPLACE I.E do you find it is difficult to be honest with your manager/subordinate just because he or she is older than you are, Does nepotism come into recruiting and firing, Do you find it difficult maintaining a professional front when faced with your employees day to day problems, i.e warnings are not given at the right time to a female employee because she is facing problems at home etc, procedures are not followed correctly because the employee is is know to you, Thanks |
I wonder if fellow nairalanders feel the whole notion of HR in companies is just hot air.Do you think your HR dept is fair can you discuss issues with them without fear of any comeback.During appraisals can you tell your manager what you really feel with fears. Where your boss is older do you feel answering back or questioning him on a professional level is rude? I am trying to find out if our culture sometimes interferes with our life. |
Will fellow HR colleagues be happy to complete a simple questionnaire re the number of employers disabled in their organisations and the overall members employed by the organisation. The whole idea really is to see how accessible the workplace is to disabled graduates. My joy will know no bounds if you can advise of any disabled personnel you have in your organisation and if any reasonable adjustments were made before employment commenced. Many thanks ps dis guy thanks for your reply, |
Good day, I am working on a thesis on HR and would like some help.I am looking at the intergration of disabled graduates into the Nigerian Workforce. I will be looking at the barriers they face etc, I once posted a question on the nairaland regarding the numbers of disabled graduates fellow nairalanders have in their workforce. The response was very poor, i pray i am now in the right section. I have also tried to get the numbers of graduates completing NYSC every year, I have had no luck to date my emails go unanswered. , my stumbling block is the fact that i live in England and as such am not able to bombard NYSC with my request for data. Can any one else think of ways to get around this, Thanking you all in anticipation |

Comments invited from Hr Personnel I am doing a research on the recruitment of disabled graduates.Do you think organisations and companies are doing enough to employ job ready disabled graduates. Do you work with disabled members of staff. Should their be legislation to ring fence some jobs for JOB READY AND SUITABLE DISABLED graduates.how can we help disabled graduates get into work more easily? Comments invited thanks, |
thanks a lot , it will take a lot to get the govt to buy into a programme employing the disabled and the less able talk less of private company, it is such a hassle in the uk as it is, i suppose one needs to re educate all those involved. i have read a lot of the threads in the career forum and i really wonder what hope the diabled have in nigeria, the gov 's wives and NGO should really look at this forgotten sector. |
