Politics / Re: Nnamdi Kanu Reacts To IGP's Order For The Arrest Of Sunday Igboho by Brooklynsouth(f): 7:08am On Jan 24, 2021
EBMedia:
Leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has reacted to the Inspector General of Police's order for the arrest of Yoruba youth leader, Sunday Igboho over eviction notice to Fulanis herdsmen, IgbereTV reports

Unregistered herdsmen occupying Ondo state forests were last week issued a seven day ultimatum by the Ondo state Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to vacate the state, accusing them of banditry and incessant killings. The ultimatum expires on Sunday January 24.

Reacting to the ultimatum, the Presidency stated that no one has right to tell herdsmen where to live.

Oyo state Youth leader, Sunday Igboho held rallies this week in the South West giving herdsmen quit notice to leave the state and accusing them of incessant robberies and kidnapping in the state.

Igboho dared the Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde to come and arrest him for defending his people.

On Friday, the Inspector-general of police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu ordered the arrest of Sunday Igboho, over the quit notice. The IGP directed Oyo commissioner of police, Ngozi Onadeko to arrest Igboho and transfer him to Abuja.

In another development, the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Abdullahi Bodejo in a new interview declared that nobody has the power to remove Fulani herdsmen from the state’s forests.

Bodejo claimed the Fulani's own all the land in Nigeria and they value cows more than human beings. He said the Fulanis have settled in the Ondo Forest reserves for over 250 years and will not obey anybody to leave the place.

Nnamdi Kanu has reacted to the development. Taking to his Twitter handle on Saturday, January 23, Nnamdi Kanu wrote;

The burnt Seriki Fulani's home would serve as a reminder to Fulani thinking of trying any shit

Politics / Re: Oyo: Yoruba Elders Condemn Burning Of Sarkin Fulani’s Residence by Brooklynsouth(f): 6:25am On Jan 24, 2021
EsomahJD:
Elders in the South West have condemned Friday’s attack on Sarkin Fulani, in Oyo State, Alhaji Salihu AbdulKadir and his family where houses were burnt down, livestock killed and 11 cars also burnt to ashes.

[b]The elders, who stated their opposition to the action attributed it to some criminals led by a secessionist, Sunday Adeyemo, in a statement under the umbrella of Coalition of Oduduwa Elders, said the development was inimical to the unity of the country which they stand for.

Expressing shock that such ugly development can happen in Yorubaland which they noted, had been in the forefront of a united Nigeria, the elders tasked security agencies to immediately swing into action with a view to arresting the culprits so they can face the wrath of the country’s law.

In the statement signed by their National Coordinator, Dr Tunde Aremu and National Secretary, Barr. (Mrs) Folake Ajasin, respectively, the elders said the action does not represent the Yoruba people.

We received with utmost shock and disbelief the burning down of the residence of Sarkin Fulani Oyo State, his livestock and 11 cars, by some suspected criminals in Yoruba land allegedly instigated by one Sunday Adeyemo otherwise known as Igboho. This action is unacceptable to us, it is criminal, barbaric and uncivilized, and we call for the immediate arrest and prosecution of Sunday Igboho and all the perpetrators of this dastardly and unwarranted act,” they said in the statement.

The elders said,” While we acknowledge the criminal activities of some suspected Fulani herdsmen in the state, we must state that the attack of the Sarkin Fulani Oyo is madness taken too far.”

“The Sarkin Fulani has lived in Oyo State for a very long time and has been known to be very peaceful. He has spoken publicly and privately against the criminal activities of some of their deviant youths and tasked security agencies to go after them. The Sarkin Fulani Oyo deserves commendation for his actions against the few criminals masquerading as herdsmen in Oyo and not this kind of evil and injustice meted on him by some of the criminals in our region,” they added.

Noting that, “This is highly condemnable and must be condemned by all”, the elders said: “Criminality is not a tribal trademark but a global trend involving people from every tribe and race.”

“We all know that they are more good Fulani people than the bad ones just like there are also criminals of Yoruba extraction, hence it will be wrong to attribute criminality to every Fulani person in the South West,” the statement added.

According to the elders, “We must remember that we have our brothers in the North who have been living there for ages as well. We shouldn’t set this country on fire for our selfish interest.”

” We, therefore, urge all the governors in the South-West states to take responsibility of their states’ security by ensuring that every lawful Fulani man and woman living in the South West is safe and protected from any form of attack and violence in the interest of peace and national unity, they must commence an immediate robust stakeholders’ meetings to engage all parties.

“While we call our Fulani and Northern brothers not to see this act as an act of Yoruba people but a clear act of criminality perpetrated by some misguided youths that will be brought to book in no time.

“The unity of Nigeria cannot be sacrificed on the altar of criminality,” the statement read.

Politics / Re: WTO: US Leaders Write Biden To Back Okonjo-Iweala by Brooklynsouth(f): 6:23am On Jan 24, 2021
ExAngel007:
Some US leaders, including Nobel Laureate Joseph
Stiglitz, have written President Joe Biden, urging
him to support the candidacy of Ngozi Okonjo-
Iweala for the office of the director-general of
the World Trade Organisation.

In an open letter addressed to the newly sworn-in
president, the US leaders said Okonjo-Iweala’s
ascension to the office of the DG would send a
strong message to the rest of the world that
Biden is leading an inclusive government.

The team of former senior US government
officials and leaders in academia, civil society,
and private sector said Okonjo-Iweala will be the
first American woman to lead the WTO.

“We write to respectfully encourage you to
support the candidacy of the eminently qualified
Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as she seeks to become
the next Director-General of the WTO,” the
letter read.

“Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is a dynamic woman of vision
who can guide the WTO through its era of reform.
She possesses a very rare combination of
leadership and experience that is deeply grounded
in international trade, finance, economics and
diplomacy.

“Her selection, as the first American and woman
of color to serve as the WTO’s director-general
will send a clear message of inclusion to the rest
of the world.”

In October 2020, Okonjo-Iweala was elected by 110
of 164 countries as the most qualified person to
lead the world trade body.

The US opposed the selection of Okonjo-Iweala,
claiming that she does not have trade experience.
However, in a letter signed by the US leaders,
including John Negroponte, former ambassador to
the United Nations, Okonjo-Iweala was said to
possess a “very rare combination of leadership and
experience that is deeply grounded in
international trade”

“We know Dr. Okonjo-Iweala and have found her
to be a woman of integrity, an honest broker and
a pragmatist who consistently delivers results,”
the letter read.

“We believe strongly that she can be a
transformative director-general, one who — with
your support — will be embraced and effective
within and beyond the WTO.

“In sum, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a uniquely
qualified leader poised to help the WTO evolve and
succeed for future generations. She is a leader
who can also be relied on to pay due attention to
the concerns many Americans have about global
trade. She has what it takes to lead WTO reforms
and take the organization into the future.

“We deeply appreciate any consideration you may
provide to her candidacy which is critically
important for our nation and the world.”

Okonjo-Iweala was nominated by the Muhammadu
Buhari-led government as Nigeria’s candidate for
the office of the WTO DG.

She became a US citizen in 2019 — after living
and working in America for over four decades.

Biden has appointed at least three Nigerians to
his cabinet, including two Nigerian-born American
women.

TheCable had reported in November 2020 that
Okonjo-Iweala has a better relationship with
Biden’s Democratic Party than Donald Trump’s
Republican party, emphasising that Biden is likely
to favour the emergence of Okonjo-Iweala.

The WTO has postponed the selection process
indefinitely.

Nigeria has practically turned to a failed state under this administration. With people like Garba Shehu and the likes making sentimental and unguarded statements everywhere. I don't see the country coming out from this.

At this point, we might need to call a roundtable and renegotiate our coexistence or let every tribe go their separate ways.

You don't expect me to fold my arms and allow Fulanis kill me and my relatives because a Fulani is in Aso rock. For why na??
all of a sudden Nigeria is now a failed state right ? so if Yorubas are ok Nigeria is an idea but whenever Yorubas are receiving the heat Nigeria becomes a failed state. Yorubas any attempt to cause havoc in this our dear country will come with consequences
