Crime / Thief "Emma-B" Burnt Alive In Warri (Graphic Photos, Video) by Btppolitics: 5:29pm On May 09, 2016
The 9th day of May 2016 will forever be a date that strikes fear in the hearts of criminals in Warri as a certain Emma B, 22, at the early hours of today met his waterloo as he was another jungle justice subject when an angry mob set him ablaze after he was accused of theft.

According to BTPpoliticsTaday reports, Emma B is popularly known to be a notorious thief who has been terrorising the community called “Marine quarters, Warri, Delta state. It was gathered that he was caught by a vigilante red handed in the early hours of today and considering the current economic hardship ravaging the nation, community members did not hesitate to maim him.

It was also gathered that the accused confessed to various heinous crimes including stabbing 9 people and killing 7 others. All efforts by our correspondents to speak to observers proved futile as they feared that one of Emma’s gang members might be watching secretly around and unleash a personal vendetta on them.

Objectively speaking, it is evident that the current terrible economic conditions of the country could be a major determinant for the increase in crime rate, especially among the Nigerian youths. What is the government doing to salvage the situation? This remains yet another big question among the many questions unanswered.

Politics / Why N56,000 Minimum Wage Is Feasible by Btppolitics: 11:09am On May 08, 2016
I have read so many comments on the N56,000 monthly wage proposal by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and many of the speakers are of the view that it cannot be achieved.
From my own point of view, the demand makes a lot of sense and it can be achieved. But in order for that to happen, the truth must be told. Reports on the ongoing workers verification in many states revealed that there are many ghost workers in the system; which means that money is going into the wrong hands.

A lot of people on the pay slips have no business being there. Even some that are employed are not offering any service. If something is done about this, there will be money to take care of genuine workers.
Governors must also cut down on the cost of governance. The money spent on the day to day running of government houses and other unnecessary travels with large entourage must be looked into. There is also the issue of free pilgrimage seats to Makkah and Jerusalem. Pilgrimage is strictly a religious affair and anyone who wants to embark on it should be ready to foot the bill.
The salary and allowances of lawmakers should also be reviewed downward. They are not rendering more services than other workers across the country. If their salaries and allowances are cut, there will be enough money to pay the N56,000 minimum wage.
The current administration is bent on fighting corruption and all hands must be on deck to ensure that it succeeds.

Crime / Ronke Shonde's Murderer, Lekan Shonde, Wanted By Lagos Police by Btppolitics: 11:01am On May 08, 2016
The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for Mr. Lekan Shonde, who allegedly killed his banker-wife, Ronke, in Lagos on Thursday night.

Ronke Shonde, a mother of two, was found dead in their apartment located on Tiemo Close, Off Awori Street, in the Egbeda-Idimu area of Lagos State on Friday morning.

The husband was said to have fled with his wife’s mobile phones after the incident occurred.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Command, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident on Saturday, adding that the matter had been transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.

She said “marks of violence” were found on Ronke, suggesting that she was murdered in cold blood.

The police spokesperson further said the command had launched a manhunt for the husband of the deceased.

Badmos said, “Yes, I confirm the incident. It was reported on Friday at about 8am by the landlady. She said at about 7am, she heard the screaming of Mrs. Ronke Shonde’s children, who is one of her tenants, as they couldn’t find the key to open their door from inside.

“When the door was forced open from outside, the lifeless body of the victim was found on the floor.

“Police operatives visited the scene and the corpse was removed and deposited at the Isolo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.”

The police spokesperson explained that the deceased’s husband was at large and could not be reached on his telephone lines, which had been switched off.

“Effort is on to get him. The command will certainly get to the root of the case. The case has been transferred to the homicide section of the SDCI for discreet investigation,” she added.

Some residents of the street on which the couple lived, who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH when one of our correspondents visited the area on Saturday, lamented that the deceased had been enduring an abusive marriage.

It was gathered that Ronke was the second of three siblings to die within two years.

A neighbour, who has a shop on the street, said Ronke died on Thursday night but the neighbours did not know until Friday morning.

Speaking on condition of anonymity, the neighbour said, “It is a very unfortunate incident. The man had serially abused and assaulted his wife until the Thursday attack led to her death.

“He would tie her, beat her and take her mobile phones away. She should have left him long ago.”

The neighbour said the couple lived comfortably, as the wife worked with Guaranty Trust Bank while her husband works at the Apapa depot of Mobil.

The neighbour also said,
“The husband is much older than the wife; the woman was in her 30s while man should be in his 50s.”

The neighbour further said, “Some people heard when she screamed on Thursday night but nobody knew what happened to her until her nanny raised the alarm on Friday morning.

“I was one of those who packed her remains. She had injuries on her head, neck and around her private parts. There were blood stains on the walls, which indicated that she must have struggled with him until he overpowered her.

“She was a light-skinned person but by the time we broke into their apartment, her body was already becoming dark and swollen. A doctor who conducted some tests on her said she must have been killed around 11pm on Thursday.”

According to the neighbour, Ronke’s mother had three children, while her younger brother died about a year ago. He lamented that her death might have been prevented if her brother’s wife, who had been living with them, was home on Thursday night.

When one of our correspondents sought to speak with the couple’s immediate neighbours on Saturday, their residence, which had two buildings one of which was said to be occupied by the landlady, was shut.

Another resident in the area, who also declined to be named in print, said the police had sealed up the couple’s flat, while other occupants of the building had shut the gate to visitors ever since.

“The flat was not just sealed. The police called a welder to weld the doors, which are made of iron to protect the crime scene,” the souce said.

The neighbour added that Ronke’s uncle came to take the children to their grandmother who is based in Kwara State.

Crime / Unbelievable: Traffickers Ingest 137 Wraps Of Cocaine, still Escapes Death by Btppolitics: 11:49am On May 07, 2016

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) caught two traffickers who were almost close to death after ingesting 137 wraps of cocaine upon their arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

NDLEA Spokesperson, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, said luckily for the suspects, when they were rushed to the hospital, 137 wraps of cocaine were successfully evacuated from their stomachs.

Similar incidents, which highlights the extreme risk drug mules or traffickers undertake in transporting narcotics in their bodies, were said to have led to the death of traffickers in the past.

NDLEA Chairman, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah (retd.) said the suspects who were passengers from Sao Paulo, Brazil enroute Dubai are now in a stable health condition.

The two suspects, Ogbobe Chidiebere (33), and Okonkwo Nonye (33), who are both from Enugu State were thankful to the NDLEA for saving their lives.

Chidiebere was quoted as saying, “I thank the NDLEA for taking us to the hospital on time. I know that I made a mistake but I never knew that it could have led to my death. Even though, they will take me to court, I still thank God that I am alive. This has taught me a bitter lesson.”

It is unclear if any of the wraps burst inside the two suspects.

The Chairman however warned that Nigerians should avoid dangerous and criminal acts that are inimical to their wellbeing, public health and safety.

“Drug ingestion is a very risky act that takes drug traffickers to early graves. The agency will continue to protect lives and enhance public security by ensuring that narcotic drugs are only made available for medical and scientific purposes,” he said.

Three other suspects were also arrested at the airport for drug importation. One of them, Okanimeh Niclopez (33), was arrested with a duty-free bag stocked with 3.3kg of cocaine hidden in chocolate, while the two others, Obeche Emeka (29) and Ikeaba Anthony (31), were caught with 1kg and 1.782kg of cocaine hidden inside socks, respectively.

They will be charged to court very soon as stated by the agency

Crime / Ekpan Grammar School, Delta Fight After WAEC Exam : Photo + Video by Btppolitics: 11:33pm On May 06, 2016
In contrast to the relative peace which characterised the school premises, today chose to be an exception as all hell was let loose at Ekpan grammar school, Delta state Nigeria, when students who had armed themselves with guns, knives and cutlasses began to attack themselves, shooting sporadically and cutting each other.

This happened at about 4:30pm on Friday evening right after the students completed one of their WAEC examinations. Correspondents from BTPoliticsToday were unable to talk to any of the students as students were busy running for their lives.

Thankfully, no lives were lost during the pandemonium, although a lot sustained various degrees of injuries.

The question however still remains. How on earth are secondary school students armed with guns and cutlasses??!!

Politics / Buhari’s Opinion On Nigeria’s Stolen Assets by Btppolitics: 9:44pm On May 06, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday conceded that it has become an herculean task for his administration to recuperate the country’s stolen resources.

He said Nigerians were becoming impatient with him on the slow pace of recovery.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the President spoke while receiving the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime, Mr. Yury Fedotov, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Shehu quoted the President as urging the UNODC to facilitate the faster recovery of Nigeria’s stolen wealth stashed abroad.

He said the process of recovering the stolen assets had “become tedious’’ to the consternation of many Nigerians.

“We are looking for more cooperation from the EU, United States, other countries and international institutions to recover the nation’s stolen assets, particularly proceeds from the stolen crude oil.

“It is taking very long and Nigerians are becoming impatient,” the President reportedly told his guest.

He also told Fedotov that his government has worked very hard in the past 11 months to reverse the negative global perception of Nigeria on corruption.

“Our genuine efforts to deal with corruption and drugs have earned us international respect and this has encouraged us to do more.

“We know that by fighting the scourge of drugs and corruption and rebuilding trustworthiness, integrity, good business practices, and imposing discipline on youths to avoid drugs, we are not doing a favour to the international community, we are doing a favour to ourselves, ’’ the President said.

Buhari also promised that his administration will work with the UN agency to rehabilitate young Nigerians who have been misled into consumption of illicit drugs and drug trafficking.

Fedotov told the President that UNODC has picked Nigeria as a pilot nation for backing and vital collaboration in the battle against drugs and corruption.

Politics / Another Terror Group Attacks Nigeria!! As Boko Haram Is Sidelined by Btppolitics: 9:36pm On May 06, 2016
The Defense Headquarters on Thursday affirmed that armed men associated to be individuals of an activist group in the Niger Delta assaulted a major part of Chevron Nigeria Limited.

Chevron, an operator of a joint venture with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), said the attack occurred at about 11.15 pm on Wednesday.

It is the latest in a series of attacks on oil facilities since President Muhammadu Buhari vowed to treat “vandals and saboteurs” in the region as terrorists.

“Its Okan offshore facility in the Western Niger Delta region was breached by unknown persons,” said Chevron in the statement.

“The facility is currently shut-in and we are assessing the situation, and have deployed resources to respond to a resulting spill,” the company added.

A group, the Niger Delta Avengers, which had earlier claimed responsibility for the sabotage a Shell Petroleum Development Company facility in the Forcados areas of Delta State, also took responsibility for the latest attack.

The group said in a statement signed by Madoch Agninibo, that it planned to attack other oil installations outside the Niger Delta in Abuja and Lagos as well as multinational oil companies operating in the Niger Delta, to pressurise government to meet their demands.

“This is what we promised the Nigeria Government. Since they have refused to listen to us, we are going to bring the country’s economy to zero.

“We want to pass this message to the all international oil companies operating in the Niger Delta that the Nigeria Military can’t protect your facilities. They should talk to the federal government to meet our demands else more mishaps will befall their installations.

“Not until our demands are met, no repair works should be done at the blast site. Whoever is going there for any repair work will be doing that at their detriment,” the group warned.

The militants group is demanding control of revenues which come from the Niger Delta.

The 7 robbers had commenced a robbery operation around 6pm today at Okumagba Avenue, Delta state were they had snatched 5 Tricycles popularly known as “Keke napep”. They had started making away with the tricycles before they got held up in traffic. However, fate caught up with two of them as one was caught at Emibiren junction along Deco road, Warri while the other was caught at Estate Okumagba Avenue, Warri.

An anonymous eyewitnesses who spoke to BTPPoliticsToday confirmed that the 2 out of 7 robbers who were caught were beaten blue black by an angry mob. Foreign Affairs / Trump Turns Eyes Toward Pivotal Primaries by Btppolitics: 2:25pm On Mar 14, 2016
HANOVERTON, Ohio (AP) — GOP front-runner Donald Trump tried to prove over the weekend that no perceived misstep can derail his march to the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump enjoyed a relatively controversy free multi-state tour Sunday ahead of primaries that could determine whether he wins the GOP nomination without a contested summer convention.

Perhaps most critical to that equation is Tuesday’s winner-take-all contest in Ohio, where the real estate mogul and the popular governor, John Kasich, have intensified their focus on one another — Trump calling his rival “a baby” and Kasich suggesting Trump and the violence at some of his rallies represent a “dark side” of American society.

Besides Ohio, candidates are readying their closing arguments in Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina and Florida, with the total number of delegates at stake Tuesday accounting for more than a quarter of the 1,237 necessary for nomination.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz argues that only he can keep Trump from reaching the required majority, while Florida Sen. Marco Rubio tries merely to remain relevant, hoping his home-state voters defy the polls and give him justification to extend his candidacy.

Trump tried Sunday to shift attention away from the intense criticism that followed harrowing scenes Friday of a melee in Chicago, where he canceled a scheduled rally amid a near-riot among his supporters, protesters and authorities.

“If we can win Ohio, we’re going to run the table, folks,” Trump boasted in West Chester, Ohio, on Sunday, one of three events he held with only occasional interruptions from protesters.

None of those interruptions led to violence, a stark turn from the scenes in Chicago and a Saturday rally in which a dissenter stormed the stage as Trump spoke, only to be subdued by Secret Service agents.

“We’re not provoking. We want peace. … We don’t want trouble,” Trump told a crowd in Bloomington, Illinois.

Kasich wasn’t buying it, reversing his months-long practice of avoiding the topic of Trump.

Speaking with The Associated Press aboard his campaign bus between stops in Ohio, Kasich read a list of Trump quotes compiled by an aide. They included Trump’s comments that his audiences should “hit back” a little more and a statement that he’d like to “punch” a protester “in the face.”

Beyond what Kasich highlighted, Trump has often declared the country must “toughen up,” and suggested one man who was physically assaulted at a November rally deserved the treatment. He confirmed earlier Sunday that he was considering assisting a North Carolina man charged with assault after video captured him sucker-punching a protester at a March 9 rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Said Kasich: “It’s really cause for pause.”

Later, Kasich told a crowd in Hanoverton, Ohio, without mentioning Trump: “Do we go to the dark side, with negativity, the gnashing of teeth … or do we go to the hopeful and the light side?”

Trump answered this weekend by casting Kasich as weak and deliberately mispronounced his rival’s Czech surname.

“He’s not the right guy to be president. He’s not tough enough, he’s not sharp enough,” Trump said at an event outside Dayton.

In line with his protectionist economic pitch, Trump hammered Kasich for supporting the North American Free Trade Agreement as a member of Congress in the 1990s.

And he went on to incorrectly identify the governor as KASE-itch. “Like, most people don’t even know how to pronounce his name. Kase-ick! Kase-ick!” Trump mocked. “He cannot do the job, folks. He’s not your president.”

Kasich will campaign in Ohio Monday with 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney and 2008 vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin will campaign separately for Trump Monday in Florida.

Despite Sunday’s relative calm, Trump’s events unquestionably have become increasingly tense over the course of his campaign, and the candidate has frequently called for aggressive tactics against protesters, with Chicago’s events giving his rivals a new opening to criticize a front-runner they side-stepped or even praised for months.

Cruz said Trump encourages an essentially un-American atmosphere.

“I’m troubled by the rallies that Donald holds, where he asks all the people there to raise their hand and pledge their support to him,” Cruz said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” continuing, “This is America. We don’t pledge allegiance to a man. We pledge allegiance to a flag.”

A distant third in delegates, Rubio compared Trump to third-world “strongmen,” and said the tone of the campaign “is really going to do damage to America.”

The senator has gone so far as to say his supporters in Ohio should vote for Kasich to help derail Trump. Kasich has not returned the favor.

Cruz argued in Columbus, Ohio, that Republican voters are wasting their time with either Kasich or Rubio. “It’s mathematically impossible for either one of them to win 1,237” delegates, he said, referring to Kasich and Rubio.

Indeed, Kasich has yet to win a single primary; Rubio has won two.

Against that backdrop, Trump continued to blame protesters, media and even Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders for the caustic environment around his campaign. Trump said the Sanders campaign is organizing protesters, a charge Sanders called “a lie.”

Trump assured his backers their frustration is righteous rage against a corrupt political and economic system. He cast his naysayers as “bad people” that “do harm to the country.”

Though by the end of his busy Sunday, he seemed to miss the commotion.

In Boca Raton, where he spoke in an outdoor amphitheater on a balmy Florida night, he asked, 20 minutes into his speech, “Do we have a protester anywhere? Do we have a disrupter?”
