Politics / Ncmp rejects Move To Prune Parties To Five, Blasts 9th NASS by Btppolitics: 10:06am On Oct 13, 2019
The leadership of Nigerian Community Movement Party (NCMP), has rejected suggestion by the country’s upper legislative chamber to reduce the number of political parties from 91 to 5, saying the senate should rather help the nation save scare financial resources by cutting its seats from 109 to “a more reasonable size”.

The NCMP stated this in a press statement signed by its National Chairman, Comrade Babatunde Ademola, and made available Newsdiaryonline.

It quoted Comrade Ademola, as saying that members of “the 9th Assembly should take notice that, none of sitting in chamber became a senator of the Federal Republic without political parties, it becomes ridiculous therefore, to cripple the same vehicles that brought you to power because of obvious pursuit of personal agenda.”

He also pointed out that “we doubt if some members of the current Senate would have been sitting and sleeping in the Red Chamber as it is often noticed if Nigeria had operated a two  or five party system as blindly advocated.

“The 9th Assembly should spell out their fears, as the hitherto voiceless and constraint Nigerians are now having platforms to make their statement known. Why being afraid of a possible change in the narrative as year 2023 approaches?

“Since Nigerians now have the opportunity to settle down for credible political parties, that will promote and truly protect the interest of the masses after the poor performance of the two regular actors, there is need for the upper legislative chamber to guide the institutions of political parties jealously.”

The Chairman further stated that “a reduction in the number of political parties to five is never a solution rather a shameful ambition and should not be nursed by an Arm of Government, which by its nature cannot function optimally without political parties.

“The  Senator Ahmed Lawan led Senate should profess exemplary qualities since it is being headed by a season politician with more than a decade wealth of experience in legislative activism rather than moves that are not prioritized among numerous obstacles bedeviling our dear Nation at this current time.”

According to him “some of them should also know that evidence abounds of their role as products of political parties that destroyed the credibility of our electoral process and the image of INEC in the 2019 general elections.

“Some of them sited in that chamber today were alleged to have forcefully made INEC employees announced them as winners. There is the need for the National Assembly to stop being petty, but professional in their approach to strengthen our democracy. They should not use their selfish ambitions and interest to destroy what was built for the collective well-being of all Nigerians. It is unconstitutional, absolutely undemocratic and an attempt to steal away our voices.”

The NCMP then called on Nigerians to resist the move “inglorious move of the Senate to silence the emergence of the children of ordinary  people in our political landscape…, the NCMP is using this medium to call on all National Chairmen of political parties to mobilize en mass all members of their parties and fellow Nigerians and lovers of democracy to stand up against this purported daylight rape of our freedom of association and make sure that the voice of the children of the poor masses is not silenced.”

Comrade Ademola, according to the release also asked the Senators: “Why not sponsor Bills to know the exact state of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) and recovered loots since the APC lead Federal Government came on board”.

It added that the upper legislative chamber should busy itself with how to cut suffocating financial cost of running the National Assembly which the party said is becoming more unacceptable considering Nigeria’s need to make huge investment in the area of infrastructure, healthcare, strengthening of government institutions among other pressing    needs of the country.

The party stated that the Senators will do well to think out of the box with a view to reducing their numbers as well as large number of aides, fleets of highly expensive automobiles and their culture of ostentatious materialism which is being fueled by Nigerians commonwealth.

Newsdiaryonline recalls that the upper chamber had on October 9, at a meeting with the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by its chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, hinted that it would reduce the number of political parties in the country from the current 91 to five through legislation.

Earlier, former governor and currently a federal lawmaker, Senator Rochas Okorocha, (APC-Imo West) called for a reduction in the number of legislators saying one senator and three House of Representative members from each of the country’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT ) Abuja, would help cut cost and ensure effective representation.

In the same vein, Okorocha, said he would sponsor a bill that would seek for the reduction, pointing out that “a senator and three House members can do what many have been doing”.

Politics / Inec Staff Openly Takes Bribe With Pos by Btppolitics: 6:15pm On Nov 17, 2018
Political parties in Abuja at the submission of nomination forms for the elective positions in to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were forced to pay monies to staffers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lest they are not cleared to submit the nomination forms of their members for a process that is expected to close on Sunday 18 th November.
When www.gongnews.net visited to monitor the progress of the electoral process, four political parties were found protesting the illegal fee being asked and collected by an INEC staff simply identified as Modibbo.
Modibbo is the first port for the parties to be cleared before the process of submission can be continued. The parties accused him of demanding between N200,000 and N1million. They have a POS with which such monies are paid by the parties. Some parties paid. Some paid by transfer into accounts given to them.
By rule and principle, the submission are supposed to be free. Modibbo was quoted to have claimed that the nomination had closed on the 14 th . When calls were placed to two other EPM staffers they confirmed that the process will close on Sunday 18 th . When the case of the bribe was brought to their notice, they expressed doubt and shock.
One of the party officials who identified himself as Benson Uduemoh, the South South Vice Chairman of NCMP said, “this same Modibbo during the submission for governorship demanded of me to pay N5,000 before I can submit our form. He gave me a Guaranty Trust Bank account to pay into. I paid N5,000 into that account.”
Uduemoh searched his phone and brought out the bank alert. The account number he paid into is 0024606094 with the account owner’s name being Bako Abubakar.
When www.gongnews.net took a picture of the INEC team, with the POS machine lying on the laps of one of the officials, they put up a resistance and forced the reporter to leave the venue.
A text message was sent to the Director of Election and Political Party Monitoring, Mr Aminu Idris to alert and seek his official reaction. A response was not gotten until we went to press.

Politics / Still On Femi Adeyeye’s Suspension – Encroachment Or Good Deed? by Btppolitics: 10:14pm On Sep 30, 2016
Last I checked, there was Freedom Of Speech. The right to articulate one’s opinions and ideas without fear of government retaliation, or societal sanction. Well, this was not considered in the case of Femi Adeyeye, an Engineering student of University of Lagos, who bagged a straight 4 semesters suspension, by merely publishing a Facebook post entitled “The Senate of the University of Lagos; a Conglomeration of Academic Ignorami“.

The poor young man, clearly due to frustration, took to social media, which of course is the best place to express your opinions and get heard in this age, to pour out his mind on the current welfare state of the University of Lagos. But to the shock of everyone, the school authority didn’t find the innocent post challenging.

Now, where are we heading? No politics, but does this act of negligence by the University Of Lagos Management bespeak a change? Now the whole scenario looks more like a drama of clamour and resistance – clamour for restructuring and resistance to restructuring.

Meanwhile, this scenario cannot be ignored. What is going on underscores the need to be truthful to ourselves, so that our future will not be a continuation of falsehood and the corresponding failure to build a just society.

Now what is your opinion? More often than not you should find the management’s decision abnormal, but on the off chance that you don’t, state your reasons.

Travel / Two Survived Motor Accident Caused By Cow In Warri - See Pictures by Btppolitics: 3:21pm On Jul 16, 2016
It was recently reported that two staff members of Department of petroleum resources, Warri zonal office, while innocently trailing their path yesterday evening had an accident as they hit a cow that strayed on the road around Otokutu along Dsc warri.

In the process, the cow was killed and the herdsmen attempted to kill the two men but they managed to escaped with the damaged car.

Fortunately, no life was lost, but some bruises on their heads.

This has always been an habit in Delta state. The government should look into the grazing of cows and the nonchalant attitude of herdsmen in this state to avoid other unfortunate circumstances.

Crime / Robbers Trying To Rob A Lawyer In Warri Caught - See Pictures by Btppolitics: 3:38pm On Jun 28, 2016
It was really a bad day for the two fellows who hit the road earlier today around Enehren, Sefia Close, in Warri, with the intention of robbing some innocent individuals off their hard earned purchasing power.

According to an eye witness, they wanted to rob a lawyer who was coming from the bank inside keke, probably based on tip off, they also entered the keke. The lawyer, who can at this point be assumed to be pretty smart, suspected them and raised alarm. They were then apprehended and were about to be burnt alive, based on normal tradition around that area. Then, a vigilante rescued them and they started confessing.

According to them, they claimed it was hunger that led them into such shameful act, coupled with the fact that one of them has a wife that just delivered.

Though people claimed it's not their first time of stealing, no gun was found on them except dagger.

Is it possible for these kind of acts to come to an end? That is the question thrown in the air for any one to pick and sort.
