Religion / Expect Good Things From God by Btruth: 3:22am On Sep 08 |
Expect good things from God Sun, 8 Sep 2024 âTherefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you.â Isaiah 30:18 Your concept of God determines your confidence in approaching Him. Do you always view Him like an auditor, and your books donât balance? Or do you view Him like a father who loves you at all times and wants to be good to you? When approaching God, many of us consult a mental scorecard to see whether we have more wins than losses, rights than wrongs, credits than demerits. If we feel like weâre not performing well, we avoid God or make Him our last resort. Thatâs a mistake because God sees you âin Christâ (see 2 Corinthians 5:17), and therefore, you are always accepted and welcomed into His presence. You say, âDoes that mean I can live any way I please?â. No, â⌠the Lord disciplines the one he loves, âŚâ (Hebrews 12:6 NIV). But His correction is not rejection; itâs proof that you are truly His redeemed child. Here is a Scripture you need to meditate on: âTherefore the LORD longs to be gracious to you, And therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the LORD is a God of justice; How blessed are all those who long for Himâ (Isaiah 30:18 NASB20). Note Godâs attitude towards you today: âThe LORD longs to be gracious to youâ. Keep that picture in mind and begin to expect good things from God. 1 Like 1 Share |
Religion / Two Prayer Principles by Btruth: 5:25am On Sep 07 |
Two prayer principles Sat, 7 Sep 2024 âBut when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father.â Matthew 6:6 When it comes to the importance of having a consistent prayer life, Jesus is our greatest example. Before He calmed the storm in Galilee, called His twelve disciples, or fed the multitudes with five loaves and two fish, He spent time alone in prayer. And you have been called to follow in His footsteps (see 1 Peter 2:21). In essence, our failures are often the result of our failure to pray. Jesus gave His disciples two prayer principles that will work for you. First, He said, âBut when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, âŚâ (Matthew 6:6 NIV). In other words, find a quiet place where you wonât be distracted. After all, you are meeting with God. As you spend time there, you will grow to love this place, and it will become your âsecret placeâ (see Psalm 91:1 NKJV). Second, Jesus said, âAnd when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask himâ (Matthew 6:7-8 NIV). The words âdonât babbleâ may sound harsh. But what Jesus is saying to us is, âFocus; be with Me. Open your heart. Get real. Stand on My Word and believe Me for answersâ. After the church prayed all night for Peter to be delivered from prison, the Bible says âthey were astonishedâ when God did it (see Acts 12:16 NKJV). You might say, âThatâs badâ. Actually, thatâs good! It means even though your faith may be weak, when you pray, God will answer you. So, keep praying and standing on His Word. |
Religion / Speak Life by Btruth: 5:12am On Sep 06 |
Speak life Fri, 6 Sep 2024 âLet him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit.â 1 Peter 3:10 The Bible says, âHe who would love life And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; Let him seek peace and pursue itâ (1 Peter 3:10-11 NKJV). Note the words âLet him turn awayâ. That doesnât mean you should be rude or insensitive but be solution-focused rather than problem-focused. Your mouth is a powerful tool that can help or harm. If you can grasp an understanding of the power of the words you speak, it can change the course of your life. You can either speak positive, uplifting, encouraging things into existence in your life, or words that produce negative, discouraging things (see Proverbs 18:21). None of us want to be a mouthpiece for the devil. But the truth is, the mouth can be used for blessing or destruction, not only in our own lives but also in the lives of others. Your mouth is like a pen, and your heart is like a tablet. When you say something over and over, it gets on the inside of you and becomes you. Itâs not something you have to try to do anymore; itâs who you are. Be a mouthpiece for God. âThe Lord God has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary. âŚâ (Isaiah 50:4 NKJV). âHow forceful are right words! But what does your arguing prove?â (Job 6:25 NKJV). âThe mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, And his tongue talks of justiceâ (Psalm 37:30 NKJV). âLet no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearersâ (Ephesians 4:29 NKJV). Today, speak life! |
Religion / Christ Can Set You Free by Btruth: 5:04am On Sep 05 |
Christ can set you free Thu, 5 Sep 2024 âI will set nothing wicked before my eyes.â Psalm 101:3 Pornography is sweeping across the world, leaving families torn apart in its wake. Many churchgoers who are struggling to break free feel isolated and helpless. One UK survey revealed that 75 per cent of Christian men and 35 per cent of Christian women viewed pornography regularly or occasionally. When you watch it, powerful neurotransmitters such as dopamine are released, which bond you to the images youâre looking at. According to neuropsychologist Dr Tim Jennings, âAny type of repetitive behaviour will create trails [neural pathways] in our brain that are going to fire on an automatic sequenceâ. Some churches treat this issue as strictly a moral one, failing to realise itâs also a brain problem. We advise people to try more, pray more, and love the Lord more. And thatâs important. But when you fight the flesh in the power of the flesh, you end up fighting yourself. Whatâs the answer? Your mind has to be renewed, and thatâs a process. When your brain has been trained the wrong way, it must be retrained the right way. This calls for radical commitment, such as removing pornography from your life and sometimes walking in accountability with a mature Christian friend you can turn to in times of testing. Above all, it involves reprogramming your mind with Godâs Word. Paul writes: âI beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of Godâ (Romans 12:1-2 NKJV). You donât have to live in bondage to pornography. Christ can set you free. |

Religion / Take A Faith-based Risk (3) by Btruth: 3:50am On Sep 04 |
Take a faith-based risk (3) Wed, 4 Sep 2024 âI will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.â Matthew 16:18 Gates are defensive devices, and storming those gates requires offensive measures. Think of the church as a battering ram. Instead of complaining about the culture, we need to present better options. We must produce higher-calibre films and compose more extraordinary music, write more notable books, and start superior schools and form better businesses. The old aphorism indicates we should stop cursing the darkness and start lighting some candles. In Roaring Lambs, Robert Briner writes: âWhy not believe that one day the most critically acclaimed director in Hollywood could be an active Christian layman in his church? Why not hope that the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting could go to a Christian journalist on staff at a major daily newspaper? Is it really too much of a stretch to think that a major exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art could feature the works of an artist on staff at one of our fine Christian colleges? Am I out of my mind to suggest that your son or daughter could be the principle dancer for the Joffrey Ballet Company, leading a weekly Bible study for other dancers in what was once considered a profession that was morally bankrupt?â. Paul didnât criticise the philosophers on Mars Hill and tell them they were going to hell. Pointing to their altar to the unknown God, he indicated, âIâve come to tell you who He is, and His name is Jesusâ. What was the result? â⌠some mocked, while others said, âWe will hear you again on this matterââ (Acts 17:32 NKJV). Go ahead; take a faith-based risk and see what happens. |

Religion / Take A Faith-based Risk (2) by Btruth: 6:36am On Sep 03 |
Take a faith-based risk (2) Tue, 3 Sep 2024 âBut without faith it is impossible to please Him.â Hebrews 11:6 When making important decisions, especially when they can affect the lives of others, the Bible says you should do two things. First, count the cost (see Luke 14:28). That means you should evaluate and investigate, and you should seek guidance and counsel. âThe way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to adviceâ (Proverbs 12:15 NIV). How certain should you be before you move forward? In his book, The Next Generation Leader, Pastor Andy Stanley writes: âGenerally speaking, you are probably never going to be more than 80 per cent certain. Waiting for greater certainty may cause you to miss an opportunityâ. What are you waiting for? A guarantee that you wonât make mistakes? That you wonât be criticised or experience embarrassment? If so, you will get nowhere. When you have done all that wisdom demands, you must trust God and take a faith-based risk. If you donât, you will end up living with regret. In a research study done by two Cornell University psychologists, they learned that time is a major factor in what we regret. We typically regret our actions over the short term. But over the long term, we are inclined to regret our inactions. The study found that in an average week, action regrets were somewhat higher than inaction regretsâ53 per cent to 47 per cent. But when people think about their lives as a whole, inaction regrets exceed action regrets 84 per cent to 16 per cent. In other words, you wonât regret the errors you made as much as you will the God-ordained opportunities you missed. So, go ahead and take a faith-based risk. |
Religion / Take A Faith-based Risk (1) by Btruth: 5:24am On Sep 02 |
Take a faith-based risk (1) Mon, 2 Sep 2024 âThe Kingdom of Heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.â Matthew 11:12 Peter gets unfairly criticised. He is the disciple who denied Christ three times, but he is the only one who got close enough to Jesus to get caught. He is the disciple who impulsively cut off Malchusâs ear when the lynch mob came to arrest Jesus, but he is the only one who came to Jesusâ defence. He is the disciple who sank in the Sea of Galilee, but he is the only disciple who walked on water. Itâs so easy to criticise people from the comfortable confines of the boat. Basically, there are two kinds of people: creators and criticisersâthose who get out of the boat and walk on water and those who sit in the boat and criticise the water walkers. When everything is said and done, our greatest regrets will be the God-ordained risks we didnât take. German author Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said, âHell begins the day that God grants you the vision to see all that you could have done, should have done, and would have done, but did not doâ. Jesus said, âFrom the days of John the Baptist until now the Kingdom of Heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by forceâ (Matthew 11:12 ESV). What do you believe God is leading you to do? What is the persistent prompting of the Holy Spirit urging you to do? Do it. Failing to take a faith-based risk is like permanently misplacing a piece from the jigsaw puzzle of your life. It leaves a disappointing hole. When we reach the end of our lives, our biggest regrets will be those missing pieces. So today, go ahead and take a faith-based risk. |
Religion / A Father's Blessing by Btruth: 5:37am On Sep 01 |
A Fatherâs Blessing (2) Sun, 1 Sep 2024 âMay God give you of heavenâs dew and of earthâs richnessâan abundance.â Genesis 27:28 Letâs look at the next two ingredients of a fatherâs blessing: (1 The power of prayer. Hereâs how Isaac, who was a farmer, prayed for his sons: âMay God give you of heavenâs dew and of earthâs richnessâan abundance of grain and new wine.â Dad, have your children ever heard you praying for them to succeed in life? Perhaps theyâve heard cutting and critical words like: âHow could you be so stupid? Donât you ever think? Youâll never amount to anything!â If so, apologise and ask their forgiveness. Then create opportunities for them to hear you talk to God about them by name; to hear you speak blessing over them. What a powerful thing is a fatherâs prayer of blessing over his family! (2 The vision of a glorious future. The Bible says, âWhere there is no prophetic vision, the people cast off restraint.â (Proverbs 29:18 ESV) School counsellors grieve over the lack of vision in their students. Many of todayâs kids see nothing ahead for them but economic gloom, unemployment and hard times. They need somebody to believe in them; to assure them they can succeed and live happy lives; to know their best days are ahead. Isaac didnât wait for his boys to devise their own vision for the future. No, he prayed for their future success, for their rise to prominence, and for respect with their family and society. Dad, your kids need you to motivate them in the right direction. Happy New Month. đđť |

Religion / A Father's Blessing (1) by Btruth: 3:30am On Aug 31 |
A Fatherâs Blessing (1) Sat, 31 Aug 2024 âBy faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau concerning things to come.â Hebrews 11:20 Every child needs their fatherâs blessing, and every father should speak words of blessing to them. When Isaac blessed his sons he was speaking with divinely given authority, not out of sentiment or favouritism. By Hebrew custom a fatherâs blessing had these ingredients: 1) A meaningful touch. âJacob went close to his father Isaac who touched him⌠Then his father Isaac said to him, âCome here, my son, and kiss me.ââ (Genesis 27:22, 26 NIV) A fatherâs blessing included the laying on of hands, a kiss, and an embrace of love and acceptance. Jesus also knew the importance of this: âHe took the children in His arms, placed His hands on them and blessed them.â (Mark 10:16 NIV) And such expressions of love still bless your childrenâs hearts when they get them from you, Dad. 2) Words of affection. Before blessing Jacob, his father Isaac said to him, âAh, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed.â (Genesis 27:27 NIV) To a city dweller these words might bring a puzzled look, but not to Isaacâs boys. Isaac, who loved nature, was saying, âThatâs my boyâa country boy, a hunter, a manâs man like his dad!â He couldnât have spoken more affirming words to his sons. Dad, make sure your words arenât demeaning or insensitive; speak words that say, âI love you, I believe in you, Iâm proud of you, and Iâll always be here for you.â |

Religion / Always Be Open-minded (2) by Btruth: 5:40am On Aug 30 |
Always be open-minded (2) Fri, 30 Aug 2024 âThey received the word with all readiness.â Acts 17:11 Here is a tale of two cities: 1) Thessalonica rejected the truth. âThen Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures ⌠saying, âThis Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christâ ⌠But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the peopleâ (Acts 17:2-3, 5 NKJV). 2) Berea received the truth. âThen the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. Therefore many of them believed, and also not a few of the Greeks, prominent women as well as menâ (Acts 17:10-12 NKJV). This is not just a tale of two cities but two mindsets. An open mindset and a closed mindset. A closed mindset says, âI believe I know all there is to know about this subjectâ, and an open mindset says, âIâm grateful for what I know, but I believe there is more to knowâ. But a word of caution! Just because a speaker says something doesnât mean you should accept it without question. A leader who seeks to honour God wonât be offended when you question what they say. The Bereans âreceived the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were soâ. Whose teachings were they checking out? Paulâs, the author of half the New Testament! So, the word for today isâalways be open-minded. 1 Like 1 Share |

Religion / Always Be Open-minded (1) by Btruth: 6:29am On Aug 29 |
Always be open-minded (1) Thu, 29 Aug 2024 âWhen I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and received instruction.â Proverbs 24:32 King Solomon is considered one of the wisest men who ever lived. He wrote three books in the Bible and is quoted regularly. And he was a lifetime learner and seeker of truth. âWhen I saw it, I considered it well; I looked on it and received instruction.â (Proverbs 24:32 NKJV) Note the words âI considered it wellâ. That should be your fixed attitude in life. Godâs plan for you is to keep learning, changing, growing, and maturing until you draw your last breath. And that means always being open-minded. Consider the Pharisees. They were 100 per cent committed to their belief system. They were also the best-educated people in society. Yet they resisted Jesus and the truth He shared at every turn. Why? For three very common reasons: 1) Pride: âIf what Jesus says is right, that makes us wrong.â 2) Security: âIf we accept what He is teaching, what will happen to our reputation and our income?â 3) Tradition: âWe have believed and done things this way for generations.â Can you see where weâre going with this line of thought? And can you see how it may apply to your life? One pastor said, âItâs good to be saved and sanctified, as long as you are not saved, sanctified, and stuck!â Spiritual growth requires two things: a hunger for truth, and the humility to acknowledge that you still have more to learn. Those are two qualities that God always honours: âThe humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His wayâ (Psalm 25:9 NKJV). So always be open-minded. |
Religion / Why Does God Choose Weak People To Do His Will? by Btruth: 3:28am On Aug 28 |
Why does God choose weak people to do His will? Wed, 28 Aug 2024 âGod has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.â 1 Corinthians 1:27 Answer: Because the only kind of people God has to work with are weak people! Mosesâ relationship with God is described in these remarkable words: âSo the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. âŚâ (Exodus 33:11 NKJV). So, was Moses perfect? Far from it. He spent the first forty years of his life as a prince in Pharaohâs palace, and the next forty years as a shepherd living in the wilderness. The Bible speaks about the strains in his marriage and his times of stress and despair. In The Ten Commandments movie, Moses was played by actor Charlton Heston, who was tall, handsome, and articulate. But Moses was actually a weak, bashful stammerer who couldnât put two words together without verbally tripping over himself, much less speak in the courts of the most feared dictator on earth. The Bible refers to the Israelites as a âcongregationâ, which made Moses a pastor. And no pastor had more trouble with a congregation than he did. You say, âWhy bring up Mosesâ shortcomings?â To encourage you! To let you know that your flaws donât disqualify you and your limitations donât limit what God can do through you. Paul writes: âFor you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty ⌠that no flesh should glory in His presenceâ (1 Corinthians 1:26-27, 29 NKJV). 1 Like 2 Shares |

You are protected by God Tue, 27 Aug 2024 âHe who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.â Psalm 91:1 During World War II, Britain built air-raid shelters. Often there were several on the same street. A pastor tells of standing in one when bombs were falling all around. Turning to a man beside him, he asked, âHow come this shelter is always crowded, and the others are empty?â He replied, âPastor, we all know that youâre a man of God. And if He is going to save anybody, He will probably save you. Thatâs why we are in this shelterâ. Reflecting on it later, the pastor said, âMany of those people didnât attend church, and the name of Jesus was a swear word in their vocabulary. They wanted His protection, but not His lordshipâ. Refuse to live that way! Commit your life to God and enjoy His protective care twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, fifty-two weeks a year, for your entire life. âHe who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, âHe is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.â Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, Nor of the arrow that flies by day, Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near youâ (Psalm 91:1-7 NKJV). |
