Going to heaven is based solely upon having a relationship with Christ—one in which you place your total trust in Him. This relationship also involves rules you live by and guidelines that make you more godly.

A tennis player isn’t free to play tennis if there is no baseline to let them know whether the ball is ‘in or out.’ A baseball player isn’t free to play without a foul line. A football player isn’t free to play without sidelines. You cannot be truly free without restraints. For example, a fish is not free to wander through the jungle, and a lion is not free to dwell in the ocean. Neither was made for that. Freedom is having the benefits accumulate to you that you were created to receive. Freedom doesn’t mean no boundaries. Freedom in Christ means that within the right boundaries, you get to experience ‘life more abundant’ (See John 10:10). James writes, ‘If you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says…God will bless you for doing it.’ On top of the Statue of Liberty is a crown with seven spikes depicting the seven seas and seven continents—meaning wherever you are, you can come to America. She is always at the church premises by 6am wearing some faded jeans, an old T shirt and some slippers. She always comes to clean the chapel and arrange the seats. For six years she has never missed a single Sunday coming to clean the place. On this faithful day a young man walked into the chapel while she was still cleaning. He went and sat down watching as the lady cleaned. He was impressed that a lady who looked quite good even in the old cloths and a scarf over her hair could be so dedicated to her work in church. He thought within himself that this was an unfortunate lady who probably had not gotten anyone to take care of her schooling and now she would probably be an orange seller or some petty trader struggling to make ends meet. He watched and within his heart he felt he now knew what God wanted him to do. When he had felt a compulsion to come very early to church he had not understood but now he thought he did. He went back to his car and took out two 50 cedis notes and when the lady finished her work and was about to leave he called her and commended her for her service and gave her the notes. She respectfully declined the gift but he insisted pressing it into her hands. He asked if she lived close by or if he could go drop her so she would not be late. She thanked him and told him that her car was nearby, but he did not comprehend or even try to understand what she had just said. He walked her out determined to find out all he could about this lady that God wanted him to help change her level. They walked out of the chapel with him telling her where he worked and how God had asked him to come early to church that day and how he believed God is directing him to help make a big difference in her life. He was so busy talking he had not realized they had walked directly to a car parked under some trees in the parking lot. The car made his one year old Benz look like a worn out wheel barrow. The lady opened the driver’s door stepped in and handed over her card to the man and said, “I believe God sent you here for a purpose, but I do not think it was to change my level, May be it was to change yours.” I am tempted to say it took a forklift to shut the young man's mouth and move him from the place he was glued to as the lady drove off. God had a purpose for bringing him to church that morning and that purpose was to teach him humility which he learnt well because now two people always clean the chapel when everyone fails to show up. Many times we think so highly of ourselves that where God sends us to learn we go trying to teach. We may be men created in the image of God but at one time ants shall be the professors seeking to impart knowledge to us only if we are humble enough to learn.

‘For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.’ 2 Chronicles 16:9

God is not hesitant or indifferent when it comes to showing Himself strong. Rather, He is looking ‘throughout the whole earth’ for people who are loyal to Him so He can reveal His power through their lives!

Here are three things you need to know about God: (1) He is always at work in supernatural ways in our world, and He has a lot He wants to accomplish. (2) He is actively searching for loyal partners—people who steadily care about what He cares about. (3) He is consistently nudging people to respond, but most people miss it or say no. Question: What would it look like in your life if you began to say yes? A minister writes: ‘A life marked by the miraculous is not just possible, not even just desirable, but is at the very centre of God’s will for every one of us. When we settle for less, our lives lose delight, fulfilment, and purpose. Personal needs of people we meet get overlooked. Extreme needs in our communities and around the world go unmet. When a whole generation settles for less, the character and motives of God get called into question. His shining presence seems to fade in the world.’ But you can do something about it. You were born to be God’s ambassador, making Him visible each day (See 2 Corinthians 5:20). God desires to show Himself strong in you, for you, and through you, because every person you encounter has a need that only God can meet.

‘As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.’ John 20:21

Jesus said, ‘The Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees His Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all he does’ (John 5:19–20 NIV).

The demands on Jesus were endless. Those who were sick wanted Him to help them. The Pharisees wanted to embroil Him in theological arguments. His disciples wanted Him to go to certain places and not others. But every step Jesus took, every act He performed, and every question He answered was in response to the leadings of His heavenly Father. That’s why He didn’t burn out. That’s why He could say on the eve of His crucifixion, ‘I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do’ (John 17:4 NKJV). Now you understand why Jesus often prayed all night and rose early in the morning to pray while His disciples were still sleeping. He had only one purpose: doing what God wanted done that day. Is that easy to do? No. People will pressure you, and unmet needs will guilt-trip you unless you are absolutely clear as to what God wants you to do. And knowing that calls for intimacy, dependency, sensitivity, and obedience to God. But living this way brings a level of joy and fulfilment that cannot be found in anything else. And this is the life you have been called to live, because Jesus said, ‘As my Father hath sent me, even so send I you’ (John 20:21 KJV).

‘The Lord said, ‘Who will persuade Ahab to go?’’ 1 Kings 22:20

Here is an amazing story of how God works:

‘I saw the Lord sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by, on His right hand and on His left. And the Lord said, “Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?” So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said, “I will persuade him.” The Lord said to him, “In what way?” So he said…“A lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.” And the Lord said…“Go out and do so”’ (vv. 19–22 NKJV). Do you see what’s happening in heaven? It could be called a business meeting. God wants to rescue Israel from its evil king, but He is open to ideas. When the spirit (or angel) proposes to mislead the king through his advisers, God not only approves but promises him success. On earth the prophet Micaiah warns Ahab that his advisers have been misled. But the king chooses to listen to them anyway. He boldly marches north against Syria, but dies in battle. This story shows you a clear correlation between events in heaven and simultaneous events on earth. Yes, God can act sovereignly without our help. But He also chooses to work through human beings like us. He has a to-do list that’s called ‘His will.’ And He is looking for people who are prepared, able, ready, and willing to do it. What should your response be? To pray, ‘Lord, whatever you want done today, use me to do it!’

And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid’ (John 14:27 NLT). ‘Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit’ (Jeremiah 17:7-8 NLT). ‘Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet’ (Proverbs 3:24 NKJV).

‘A merry heart does good, like medicine.’ Proverbs 17:22

Solomon wrote, ‘I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink, and enjoy life. That way they will experience some happiness’ (Ecclesiastes 8:15 NLT). If you are wise, you will take those words to heart.

The impact of laughter is well documented. Studies show it lowers blood pressure and reduces hypertension. It reduces stress hormones and cleanses the lungs and body tissues of stored stale air, because laughter empties more air out than it takes in. It increases immune functions in the body. On top of all these benefits, laughter triggers the release of endorphins—those ‘feel good’ chemicals in the brain that make you feel happy. These are the identical chemicals released when some people, after a prolonged period of running, experience a runner’s high. That’s why the Bible says, ‘A merry heart does good, like medicine.’ So, take advantage of every opportunity to have a good hearty laugh. Laugh at your mistakes—especially on the job. Shed the superwoman or superman image, and start having fun. This doesn’t mean you have relaxed your standards of excellence; it just indicates you are aware of the fact that you and those around you are human. So have some fun; be a good sport. Don’t allow life’s pressures and negative circumstances to snuff out your sense of humour. Laughter reflects positive emotions and makes you a lot more enjoyable to be around. Nobody enjoys a sourpuss; laughter can also take your mind off what’s stressing you. So, laugh often, and remember, ‘The joy of the Lord is your strength’ (Nehemiah 8:10 KJV).

Both factions are terrible. In one of the videos that I watched, I saw a woman (size plus) been hit at the face by a man. That was so callous of those animals fighting for the party. So silly of him 😠

Create a peaceful atmosphere

‘Let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.’ Colossians 3:15

How much peace do you display? How well do you respond to the difficulties in your workplace? Are you always tense or complaining? Is your desk neat and organised, or are there huge piles of paper all around? Disorder can be mentally unsettling and stress-inducing, and wear down your peace.

What about your overall behaviour; are you always fuming over co-workers’ mistakes? Have you learned to stop sweating the small stuff? Have you stopped to think about what a poor testimony it is not to reflect peace, which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit? ‘The Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control’ (Galatians 5:22-23 NLT). What about your daily drive to work? Do you sit down in your car with the aim of keeping a peaceful atmosphere no matter the circumstances you encounter on the road? When was the last time you prayed for a bad or unkind driver? Do you play calming music? The right music can be an excellent source of peace. When King Saul was tormented by an evil spirit, his servants told him, ‘Let us find a good musician to play the harp whenever the tormenting spirit troubles you. He will play soothing music, and you will soon be well again’ (1 Samuel 16:16 NLT). Jesus said, ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you’ (John 14:27 NIV). That means wherever you go, you can take the peace of God with you.
