The ingredients of a miracle Tue, 13 Aug 2024 ‘There was a wedding in Cana of Galilee.’ John 2:1 Let’s examine the story of Jesus turning water into wine. It was His first miracle, and it reveals how He works in our lives. 1) Invite Jesus. ‘On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.’ (John 2:1-2 NKJV). When the problem arose, this couple didn’t have to send for Jesus because He was already there. Not only did they know Him, but they also included Him in their plans. They honoured Him. The cry of Paul’s heart was ‘that I may know Him …’ (Philippians 3:10 NKJV). Why? Because when you know the Lord, you can call on Him with confidence and be assured He will be by your side when you need Him. This couple probably had a long time to prepare for this event, yet Jesus didn’t criticise them for poor planning. He came to their aid and met their need. And He will do the same for you; all you have to do is invite Him. 2) Do what He tells you, even when you do not understand it. Faith does not require explanations. It requires simple obedience and trusting in the goodness of God. ‘Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass’ (Psalm 37:4-5 NKJV). 3) Understand that God can save the best for the last. ‘… You have kept the good wine until now!’ (John 2:10 NKJV). It’s not too late. What looks to you like a tragedy can become a testimony of God’s goodness and faithfulness in your life. |

The habit of joyful and confident hope Mon, 12 Aug 2024 ‘Endurance produces character, and character produces hope.’ Romans 5:4 Does it feel like the attack coming against you right now is more than you can bear? If so, read this: ‘Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,’ (Romans 5:3-4 ESV). Notice that you can reach a place of spiritual maturity where you automatically respond to difficulty with ‘joyful and confident hope.’ It’s easy to say, ‘don’t worry’, but to actually do that requires experience with the faithfulness of God. When we trust God and then see His faithfulness in our lives, it gives us the confidence needed to live without fear and anxiety. That’s why it’s so important to continue to have faith in God and learn to trust Him in the midst of trials. With God’s help, we can overcome the temptation to give up when the going gets rough. God uses those hard, trying times to build in us patience, endurance, and character that will eventually produce ‘the habit of joyful and confident hope.’ Always remember that when you are in a battle, you are gaining valuable experience that will benefit you later on. You will more easily trust God when difficulty comes, and you will be able to testify to others regarding the goodness and faithfulness of God. If you are in a battle right now, you can let it defeat you or make you stronger! Make the right decision, and let it help bring you to a deeper level of spiritual maturity. |
Truth must be told. PO is very right on this 😭 |
Sometimes it’s wise to say no Sun, 11 Aug 2024 ‘I am not able to bear all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me.’ Numbers 11:14 Moses fielded complaints and listened to stories of frustration and woe until he reached the place where he told God, ‘I am not able to bear all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me’ (Numbers 11:14 NKJV). And God agreed. He told Moses to pick seventy mature leaders to bear the burden of the people with him (see Numbers 11:16-17 NKJV). As a result, they made it to the promised land. Like Moses, it’s okay for you to say, ‘I’ve reached my limit’. Yes, the Scripture says, ‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me’ (Philippians 4:13 NKJV). But that’s referring to times when we face various trials and situations that God will help us through. It doesn’t mean we should take on so many responsibilities that we burn out. Sometimes it’s all too much, and it’s okay to admit that. It’s also okay to say no to some things, so you can enjoy life the way God intended. You don’t have to be like someone else or try to keep up with them. The assignment God gives you is never greater than the grace He supplies. As our faces differ, so do our gifts and capacity to handle things. We need to be who God created us to be, and we don’t have to apologise for it. We must accept responsibility for all God called us to be and do all He called us to do. We’re not called to make ourselves sick with stress and pressure. So, if you have reached your limit, go to God. He will help you find a saner, healthier lifestyle. |
Believe in your vision Sat, 10 Aug 2024 ‘Write the vision And make it plain on tablets,’ Habakkuk 2:2 God has a plan for your life. In Scripture, it’s sometimes referred to as a ‘vision’. It works like a compass that will always point you in the right direction and an anchor that will hold you steady in life’s storms. Why did God say, ‘...Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, ...’? (Habakkuk 2:2 NKJV) Because sometimes, we bury our vision deep in our hearts to protect ourselves from the criticism of others. Fear causes us to set our vision out of sight so that we don’t have to think about it. Sometimes we give up on our vision because it hurts too much and costs too much to hold on to it. What should you do? First, you must have a vision that’s clear and compelling. Second, you must keep your vision before you at all times. After experiencing painful rejection by his family and false accusations by his boss’s wife resulting in thirteen years of wrongful imprisonment, the Bible says, ‘And Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed …’ (Genesis 42:9 KJV). Third, you must remember that God has scheduled a time for your dream to be fulfilled: ‘For the vision is yet for an appointed time; … Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, …’ (Habakkuk 2:3 NKJV). You must find a balance between contentment and ambition. Paul writes, ‘… I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content’ (Philippians 4:11 NKJV). Paul never allowed himself to be upset with where he was at the moment; he knew that God was with him at all times, and he was always looking forward to where God would take him. So, enjoy this day, knowing that God has your future securely planned. |
Include Jesus in all you do Fri, 9 Aug 2024 ‘Thinking He was in their company, they travelled on for a day.’ Luke 2:44 The Bible says: ‘Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When He was twelve years old, they went up to the festival according to the custom. After the festival was over, while His parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking He was in their company, they travelled on for a day. Then they began looking for Him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find Him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for Him. After three days they found Him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard Him was amazed at His understanding and His answers’ (Luke 2:41-47 NIV). Note the words ‘Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it. Thinking he was in their company…’ It was a full day’s journey before they realised He wasn’t with them! Then it took them three days to find Him! There is a lesson here for you. It’s easier to lose that special sense of God’s presence than to get it back once you have lost it. It’s easy to wander off and do your own thing, unaware that you haven’t included the Lord in your day or taken time to consult Him about your plans. The way to maintain a sense of God’s presence is to intentionally involve Him in all that you do. Jesus promised, ‘... “Anyone who loves Me will obey My teaching. My Father will love them, and We will come to them and make Our home with them.”’ (John 14:23 NIV). |
God will deliver you Thu, 8 Aug 2024 ‘From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears.’ Psalm 18:6 Have you suffered a series of defeats and setbacks? Are you discouraged because the attacks have been long and tiring? Read these words from the psalmist David and stand on them: ‘The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer … I called to the LORD in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears. … He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He pulled me out of deep water. He rescued me from my powerful enemy … for they were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support. … He rescued me because He delighted in me. The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness … God—His way is perfect; the Word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. For who is God besides the LORD? And who is a rock? Only our God. God—He clothes me with strength and makes my way perfect’ (Psalm 18:2, 6, 16, 17-20, 30-32 CSB). You have heard it before, and you know what to do—spend more time with God in prayer and reading His Word! Instead of striving in your own strength, plug into God and start flowing in His strength. Check and see who is on the throne of your life. If it’s anyone other than the Lord, including yourself, it’s an idol that must be dethroned. How long will this battle last? God knows, and the grace He provides is greater than any attack you will ever face. Today He is saying to you, ‘… “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” …’ (2 Corinthians 12:9 CSB). |
Experiencing ‘His incomparably great power’ Wed, 7 Aug 2024 ‘I pray … that you may know … His incomparably great power for us who believe.’ Ephesians 1:18-19 Like a proud parent, our heavenly Father loves it when we carry out impossible things by His power and for His glory. And when you live in raw reliance upon His power, you will do things that otherwise cannot be done. When you think about it, in and of ourselves, we are incapable of loving God. We cannot fabricate love for Him. We can just respond to His love for us. Knowing this sets us free. Religion focuses on doing things for God, but Christianity is all about receiving what Christ has done for us on the cross. What we do for God is a reflection and a response to what He has done for us. We all love miracles; we just dislike being in a circumstance where we need one. But that is a precondition. You will never experience the power of God until you’re in a situation that requires it. If you want to be filled with His Spirit, step into a situation that requires His power. Pursue a God-ordained dream you cannot achieve with your own strength and wisdom. That’s why Paul writes: ‘I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know … His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms’ (Ephesians 1:18-20 NIV). Today, God wants you to experience His ‘incomparably great power’ in your life. |
They will ‘lay hands’ Tue, 6 Aug 2024 ‘In My name they will … lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.’ Mark 16:17-18 Here is an often overlooked part of the Great Commission Jesus gave us: ‘In My name they will … lay hands on the sick, and they will recover’ (Mark 16:17-18 NKJV). A comforting, caring touch can reduce stress, enhance sleep, and assist us in recovering more quickly from injury. One study found that a thirty-minute massage three times a week lowers stress by 34 per cent. The power of touch, even on a human level, is an astonishing thing. But when you add the power of God, it opens the way for something supernatural. ‘And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him’ (Acts 28:8 NKJV). Laying hands on the sick or on those called to ministry was a regular practice in the New Testament church. And you don’t have to be an ordained minister to do it. Jesus said, ‘“And these signs will follow those who believe:” …’ (Mark 16:17 NKJV). If you are a believer who has placed your trust in Christ, you’re qualified. Could God do it without us? Of course. But He has given us the privilege of being conduits for His power. By laying hands on someone, you do two things: you identify, and you impart. Who knows how many miraculous moments we have sacrificed because we haven’t acted in a bold biblical way by praying for someone who is sick, commissioning someone who is called, or encouraging someone who simply needs a hand on their shoulder? |
God’s goodness leads to godliness Mon, 5 Aug 2024 ‘The goodness of God leads you to repentance.’ Romans 2:4 Do you remember the woman who took an alabaster box of fragrant oil and anointed Jesus with it? The Bible says: ‘Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner”’ (Luke 7:39 NKJV). Man-made religion condemned this woman because of her past, but Jesus cleansed her and made her whole. ‘Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little’ (Luke 7:47 NKJV). Jesus knew what this woman had done, but He also knew what she could become when His grace touched her life. The more you realise that you have been forgiven much, actually, of all your sins, the more you will love the Lord. God’s forgiveness does not lead to a sinful lifestyle; it leads to a life of glorifying the Lord Jesus. ‘… the goodness of God leads you to repentance ...’ (Romans 2:4 NKJV) The word ‘repentance’ means to turn around and do the opposite. Condemnation does not produce righteous living, but the knowledge of God’s grace and goodness towards us does. Simon the Pharisee thought that his acceptance by God was based on his performance; hence he became self-righteous. But Jesus set him straight: ‘… But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.’ When you realise how much and how often God has forgiven you, you fall in love with Him and desire to please Him in all you do. |
You can overcome the temptation (3) Sun, 4 Aug 2024 ‘He is able to aid those who are tempted.’ Hebrews 2:18 If you are serious about overcoming temptation, here are five things you must do: 1) Think about the choices you are making, and the consequences, before you make them. Wisdom always looks ahead. 2) Believe that you can resist temptation—because you can. ‘You are of God … and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world’ (1John 4:4 NKJV). 3) Recall how you felt when you gave in to temptation before. Guilt, condemnation, shame. These are some of Satan’s favourite weapons. When you give in to them, it’s hard to get back on your feet again. 4) Don’t put yourself in situations where you can easily fall. If you struggle with managing your money, don’t go to the shopping centre or shop online when you can’t afford to buy anything. If you struggle with pornography, remove the source of it from your life. 5) Celebrate each victory, but be sure to give God the credit for it. You will never graduate from being tempted. It’s easy to think you’re beyond stumbling, and once that happens, you make yourself an easy target for the Enemy. God wants you to trust Him for victory in every area of your life. Sheep are defenceless animals; they have no fighting skills. When they stray from the fold, they are quickly devoured by the wolf. So, they have learned that their safety and protection lie in staying close to the shepherd. And the same goes for you. Here is a promise you can stand on today: ‘… the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations ...’ (2 Peter 2:9 NKJV). |
You can overcome the temptation (2) Sat, 3 Aug 2024 ‘God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able.’ 1 Corinthians 10:13 The Bible says: ‘Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.’ (1 Corinthians 10:12-13 NKJV). The words ‘way of escape’ does not promise you exemption from temptation. Satan, who is called ‘the tempter’, never lets up or takes a day off. But God’s goal is to make you strong where you have been weak. His promise to you is that He ‘… will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able …’ Keep going, even when you think you can’t! God has promised you a way of escape, so keep going and wait for it. Victory is just around the corner, but you’ll never taste the sweetness of it if you give in. As you become stronger in the Lord, the temptations you are battling will become progressively weaker until they lose their appeal, and you begin to walk in victory with ease. |

You can overcome the temptation (1) Fri, 2 Aug 2024 ‘No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man.’ 1 Corinthians 10:13 In Scripture, Satan is called ‘the tempter’ and ‘the accuser’. First, he will tempt you, and if you fail, he will accuse you. He wants you to feel unworthy and disqualified in God’s eyes. But you’re not! ‘For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathise with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need’ (Hebrews 4:15-16 NIV). When you fail, you can go to God with confidence, knowing He will not only forgive you but provide the enabling grace to help you overcome temptation next time. We all face temptation; it’s an unavoidable part of life. Even believers who have walked with the Lord for many years deal with it. Their areas of temptation may be different from yours, but Satan doesn’t give any of us a free pass. However, you can overcome temptation. One of the first steps to conquering it is to start saying the right thing. The Bible says, ‘Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit’ (Proverbs18:21 NKJV). Your words give life to what you say. So, start speaking God’s Word. Jesus said, ‘Behold, I give you the authority … over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you’ (Luke10:19 NKJV). Claim that promise today; for what God promises, He will give you the strength to perform. |
Rely on God and stay within the boundary lines Thu, 1 Aug 2024 ‘Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.’ Galatians 5:16 There is just enough ego and independence in us to want to do things our way. And they keep getting us into trouble. Paul writes: ‘So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want’ (Galatians 5:16-17 NIV). Note the words ‘the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit’. What’s the key to victory? First, lean more on God and less on yourself. Second, establish boundaries in your life. That’s why daily Bible reading is so important. It keeps you in God’s safety zone by telling you what you can do and what you had better not do to be safe. Roads have lines: one on each side and one in the centre. These lines provide margins for our safety while we’re driving. If we go over the line on one side, we risk going into the ditch. If we cross over the line in the middle, we risk getting hit by oncoming traffic. We appreciate those lines because they keep us safe. And it’s like that in our personal lives too. When we have clearly marked boundary lines, we feel much better and experience God’s peace. When God says don’t, He is not being difficult to get along with, He is being protective. You have been redeemed by the precious blood of Jesus, you are precious in His eyes, and He wants only the best for you. Happy New Month. May August be a blessed month to us in Jesus name 🙏 |

Focus on your spouse’s best qualities Wed, 31 Jul 2024 ‘He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favour from the LORD.’ Proverbs 18:22 The best marriages are built by couples who try to remember the qualities that initially attracted them to one another. If you want to build a happy marriage or improve a less-than-happy one, do these: 1) List your spouse’s best qualities. Write down the things you love most about him or her, and endeavour to keep those things in mind at all times. When stresses and strains surface in your relationship, as they inevitably will, go over the list in your mind, and if necessary, refer to the written copy as a reminder. 2) Focus on them. Think how your spouse’s great qualities enrich your life, and how much you would miss them if he or she was not around. When you change your focus, you change your feelings. And when you change your feelings, you change your perspective, your approach, and your reactions. 3) Verbalise them. ‘Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her’ (Proverbs 31:28 NKJV). Your children learn how to build a great marriage or a miserable one by watching you. That thought alone should put the brakes on criticism and bring out the compliments! 4) Nurture them. ‘Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows’ (Galatians 6:7 NIV). People wither under complaints, whereas they thrive and grow through praise and encouragement. Seize any moment worth celebrating and magnify it! Paul bottom-lines it: ‘Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.’ (1 Corinthians 13:6-7 NIV). |
How to ease financial stress Tue, 30 Jul 2024 ‘So, if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?’ Luke 16:11 Did you know that God’s willingness to bless you with more money depends on how well you handle what He has already given you? When it comes to money, here are some Bible principles you must live by: 1) Pay God His share first so you won’t feel ashamed of not doing so (see Malachi 3:10). 2) Pray before you buy. Ask yourself, ‘Do I need this or just want it?’ (3) Keep mindful of the amount of expenditures versus your income. 4) Be in agreement with your husband or wife regarding the household budget and your short- and long-term goals. And don’t hide or misconstrue information about your finances. 5) Commit to excellence at work – without overdoing your hours. 6) Pay off all your debts. Your home loan will take longer but aim to make extra repayments to pay it off sooner. 7) Save at least 10 per cent of your gross pay if you are out of debt. Don’t co-sign a loan for anyone, and don’t lend anyone money you can’t afford to lose.9) Pay cash for all your ‘desires’ instead of putting them on a credit card. 10) Assign funds in your budget for fun and holidays. 11) Live beneath your means. When you get a pay raise, don’t adapt your lifestyle to consume all of it. 12) Aim to set up an emergency cash supply of at least two months’ living expenses (six months would be better). 13) Be satisfied with what you have. ‘Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless’ (Ecclesiastes 5:10 NIV). |

Develop your awareness of God’s presence Mon, 29 Jul 2024 ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’ Exodus 33:14 When you sense God’s presence and know He is with you, you can handle whatever life brings. Try to imagine the assignment Moses had of liberating two million people from the grip of slavery: leading them through a wilderness where they were exposed to enemies and elements such as extreme heat and cold; feeding them, clothing them, settling their disputes, and keeping them moving towards their destiny. Here is what Moses prayed: ‘… If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here’ (Exodus 33:15 NKJV). Moses preferred to go nowhere with God than anywhere without Him. When his affair with Bathsheba was exposed, David didn’t pray, ‘Don’t take my crown from me, or my kingdom, or my army.’ No, he knew what mattered most: ‘Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me’ (Psalm 51:11 NKJV). In order to grow spiritually, you must develop an increasing awareness of God’s presence in your life. How do you do that? Instead of being a rock, become a sponge. When you place a rock in the ocean, its surface gets wet, but its core remains hard and dry. But when you place a sponge in the ocean, the water alters the very essence of its being. Slow down and sense God’s presence. Begin by reading this Scripture, writing it down, repeating it over and over, and opening every pore of your soul to God’s presence: ‘The LORD your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in his love. He will delight in you with singing’ (Zephaniah 3:17 CSB). |
