Congrats! When did you apply for EA? Any tips for getting approved?

I am generally not a long story person, I like going straight to the point, unless I really have to.

So for EA, I wrote not more than a five liner, saying “ Please, I have admission in so so school, my resumption is on so so date, which is now within sixty days. I think I ended with, I will be happy, if my request is granted or something like that!

Attached my visa fee, sevis fee, I-20 and passport data page, I think.

I had my interview in Abuja on the 18th and it was successful, asides my transcript which I told myself, it is only fitting I also share (being that I was only able to read a drop box of transcripts, because people shared), I also want to share some of my general experiences throughout the process and hope it is useful to someone someday.

1. It probably sounds cliche, but I am going to even scream it, “everything that happens in the physical, is controlled by the spiritual.” Pray, pray pray… everything about my process was a smooth sail, not because I did anything special, (I can’t even lie) but I held God on his shokoto like Jacob, if you don’t bless me, I won’t let you go.

I got my EA approved in two days, got a date with my EA, my interview was under a minute and nope I am not fully funded… so many things sha, you get the gist.

2. When you read people’s transcripts or experiences, try to just take the gist and leave the experience, I see a lot of people internalizing bad news and already being shaky and stuff! Don’t do that, read transcripts or watch youtube videos, take the L and move on from it, don’t even discuss it, “ahhh people are getting denied oh bla bla bla….” It is tempting, but please don’t.

3. Follow your heart, it may cost you more and look foolish, do it anyways. So, even if it turns out bad, you know you did done everything you could have done. For instance, I live in Lagos but I came to Abuja for my interview…. based on the transcripts I read, I just said you know what I think I prefer Abuja.

Did I start to regret at some point , yes I did… by the time flights started skyrocketing again, plus hotel bill, then the terrorism ish at some point, I was just like, who sent me oooo

4. Read transcripts and watch Argo visa tips

5. On the day of the interview, dress properly… this is for my ladies, cause most guys I saw were actually looking good, but I saw quite a number of ladies and I am like, worapuned my dear

From unironed clothes to funny looking outfits (like wearing a dinner gownish outfit with a rubber slippers), not saying outfits are being judged but then, you can’t be saying your father can afford a US education bla bla bla and you don’t have light to iron your cloth, for an interview you knew, you will have, come off it *in Taooma’s voice

6. Limit your bobo and stop shouting, the goal is to be audible not scream. It is just a window, separating you from the VO. Maintain eye contact, use your own accent and be audible; don’t scream please and don’t be going on and on, like a script.

For instance, I got closed ended questions, so I answered in the yes and no format, oh you are going to Georgetown right, yes, I am. I did not start reading off about my course of study or bla bla bla, because it is a closed ended question. If she had asked, why are you going to the united states, ehen, that is an open ended question, I am free to include and minus, until she interrupts or asks me to stop!

7. I did not do any group mock, I could not even bring myself to listen to the mocks, cause my mind did not just carry it and the experience was making me jittery, but I did one private mock with a friend. To my initial point, know what works for you, follow your intuition, ask questions (both nairaland and whatsapp groups) when you are unclear.

These are all the things I remember so far from people I saw getting denied in front of me and other observations.

Thanks to every single person that has contributed on this forum to make it what it is; @walspring, thanks for a seamless SEVIS payment, I was really worried and all, but you came through, @Shannon, thanks so much, your response increased my confidence, @moshkom, @chiberta, greatestman, nigpatriot… thanks for your contributions.

All the best guys!!!

*Proposed transcript for interview in view days time*

2nd Attempt

F2 with 2 kids

Lagos

V.O: Good morning. Pass me your documents

F2: Good morning ma

V.O: why are you going to the US?

F2: I'm going to the US to visit and support my loving and caring husband who is presently studying for his PhD in the department xyz.
I missed my darling husband so much, since we got married about 8 years ago we had never been separated for this long and the children also miss their dad and constantly demanding to physically see their father. He visited us during Christmas break in last year December but couldn't visit during this last summer because he was busy with his Lab .

V.O: How long has your husband been in the US

F2: He traveled last year July, it's been 1year and one month now.

V.O: Have you traveled before?

F2: I haven't traveled before

V.O: what's your husband studying

F2: my husband is studying xyz in the University of ABC

V.O: when did you get married?

F2: we got married in 2014. It's been 8years now

V.O: where do you work?

F2: I work in the university of Ibadan as xyz. I will state my cadre & job roles

V.O: what has changed since your last application?

F2: I was really tensed and nervous during my last interview, so I couldn't answer my questions well but I'm more confident now. Also we initially wanted to stay with my husband for the entire period of his study, but I now have new management in my place of work with new administration and they have saddled me with more responsibilities of coordinating and supervising students on intership to my place of work. And now they only granted me 6weeks annual leave of which I have to resume back to work at the end of my 6weeks annual leave and the children also resume back to their school

V.O: How long will you be staying?

F2: we planned to visit him for 6weeks. I will soon commence my annual leave by December and the children also will soon be on December break from school. So we planned to visit him during December holiday.

V.O: who's sponsoring your trip?

F2: we will be using family funds. My husband and I has been working in Nigeria university for more that 8years and we have saved up some money. I also have a running business where I sell and supply bags of food items here in Nigeria that I have been running the business before I got married. And my father in law also has a lot of landed properties. Recently, he sold some portion of this land and my husband share out of the money was sent to him.

V.O: Everything looks good. I will be approving your visa. Enjoy your stay in the US

F2: Thank you ma

Please your useful suggestions are highly welcome

Please I also need volunteers for one on one mock interview.

Thank you.

On the question, what has changed? I think you should build a more solid answer, saying they previously allowed you to go that long and now admin has changed, so unreal!

And so your children too would have just been out of school for that long?

You have not given a genuine reason why you were initially allowed to stay that long, no establishment public or private in Nigeria can let you go on leave for that long, unless it is a sabbatical or due to ill health or something! *I stand to be corrected, please.
So, it looks like you were trying to japa, then they denied you and now, you have modified the story, so it sounds better…. remember you are initially considered a japa material, until you prove otherwise.

Even saying I was anxious bla bla bla is an overused line, just go straight to your why? Oh, initially, I was taking my lectures online or performing my service online due to bla bla bla, and I wanted to stay with my husband for the period of his study, since I could combine work and still be with him, being that we have not stayed apart for that long, since we got married.

But now, I have a new admin and I was only given 3 weeks of leave for the Christmas break, bla bla bla

All the best!

Hi guys, I need your thoughts on this.

My girl’s visa appointment is on August 18th and the school’s official resumption is on the 15th (same month). She’s being offered a letter of extension until September 1st.

Do VOs/POEs still recognize formal letter of extension or it depends solely at the discretion of the interviewer?

and Lastly,

Could her late appearance result to a denial ?

Your personal thoughts and experience are highly appreciated.

My thoughts are:

1. It depends on the prestige/popularity of the school
2. The resumption date was it, start of classes or orientation
3. If it is orientation, is she going to take it online?
4. Because if it is start of classes, resuming almost two weeks later is quite alot
5. As for VOs accepting it, it depends on how she presents her case by answering the above questions.

Please can someone explain to me how expedited appointment is scheduled. My question is if approved, does the consulate/embassy randomly assigns you a date or you are given a set of dates to choose from? Thanks.

Generally, when granted EA, you will be able to access date portals with closer dates. So, for instance, if you log in now, you will see 2023 dates, with an EA, you will see 2022 dates and if you are lucky, actually get an interview date before your resumption.

??

What did FCSA tell you they want? Most times, schools and accreditation bodies always specify, how they want the transcript sent, even if it is just temporarily until admission is given.

If they requested for an official transcript and you are having issues getting an official transcript sent across, why not send an email to them.

My 2pence!

Webmasters / Re: Why Some Female Upcoming Blogger Is Very Wicked? by buccy(f): 7:57am On Jul 15, 2021
@,

1. You changed the website’s theme that the owner asked you not to change, and you were unable to revert same to status quo.

2. You uploaded an entire group picture, of people you don’t know, just to publish an untrue one sided narrative.

3. You found it proper and professional to disrespect an entire gender and a group of persons “upcoming bloggers”, again just to publish a one sided narrative.

4. You published her website link without permission, in your futile attempt to disparage this blogger, you so speak about.

5. So, I will assume that you are unaware that you are on the wrong side of the law right now, for tampering with your client’s website and breaching confidentiality on all levels.

6. Did you even ever stop to think about the effect of your post, before you proceeded to do same.

And then the question, what kind of a blogger are you? Cause all I can see is unprofessionalism at its peak, a person who is not in control of his emotions tainted with hate for a gender. I hope nobody else decides to do business with you, to protect their sanity.

If I were you, I will pull this story down before it pulls you down and your acclaimed 5 years experience.

Business / How do I deal with poor experience from Jumia? by buccy(f): 2:15am On Mar 25, 2020
I decided to drop this here, to save another person from getting cheated by Jumia and I will be brief.

I bought a rechargeable Lontor fan from Jumia for N22, 549 on the 26th of February, 2020 and exactly 7th March, 2020 ( 10days after) the fan stopped working. Firstly, it stopped working without being plugged in, then by that evening, it stopped working atall... like the blades will not even move.

I tried everything to contact Jumia insisting they sold me a defective fan and they should contact the vendor and all... well all their customer agents insisted I had passed the 7days return policy.

Well, it gets worse, the fan had a warranty in the pack, so I am like but I have a warranty, LOL... Jumia told me that my warranty is not for Nigeria use. One customer agent actually told me he has somewhere in computer village, he can refer me to.... WAWU!

I considered suing them and even reported them to FCCPC, but oh well nothing works in Nigeria. After some mental exhaustion, I tell myself why not just try repairing it...and so I take it to a fan repairer and he says I need a new battery and a board or something, everything cost N10,000.

Nairalanders, at the end of the day, the fan repair guy literally had to change everything the fan came with... from board and battery, we went to other things... I honestly can't remember their names.

Ladies and gentlemen, the fan is still not working. So, I succeeded in wasting N33,000.

Why am I writing this story? Jumia Nigeria is a fraud... I go back to my order request and I see that the particular fan has 3 comments saying it works well bla bla bla... then I look at the names of those making those comments and see "happy buyer" LOL... then it occurs to me this was a fraud from the beginning.

If you have something important to buy, please don't buy it on Jumia or for me right now, any of this online shops... spend your hard earned money somewhere else that you can actually get value for it.

I forget to.mention the name of the vendor is #Narro way electronics# RUN!!!

In addition to what everyone has said, Resumption is on the 7th and YES there is another batch for 15th. Goodluck to everyone!

Please please take it with a pinch of salt, I am only saying what I heard the HR say, "if you are not resuming 7th, you have to wait till 15th for the next induction".

My goodness. Those people frustrated me, I had to pay #1000 for opening file and #5000 for processing fees. They were seriously annoyed with me that I made payments online even when all my documents were complete. I had to be doing alot of begging on top of my money so that they can attend to me. The woman there claimed that everyone that paid online always pays a compulsory processing fee. Though I know that money was illegal but I didn't want them to delay my passport so I just paid. My passport is scheduled to be ready in a week time as seen in the printed form after capture

Sorry pls during the interview, where you able to correct any information? I made a mistake with my month of birth.
