Politics / Re: A Nurse As Minister Of Health: Nma's Petition Disregarded. by buffox: 2:27am On Apr 07, 2010
^^ My analogy with education was the fact that someone above (Irohadis) talks about Doctors having higher IQs than nurses. How does book-smartness help ur management skills? Therefore my analogy stands.

It seems a lot of people do not even understand what it takes to be the minister of health. Sheer knowledge does not get anybody anywhere. You need to be able to handle the political and social aspects of it. All we need is a rounded person who is able to maximise their knowledge and pull together social and political resources to get the DOCTORS AND THE SECTOR IN GENERAL responsive to its duties!

Is the minister going to the operation theatres to save lives?

In the same way, we must have pilots as aviation minsters then abi? Afterall aviation is a safety conscious space as well.

Finally, you have really lost me with your analogy - "This is common sense. If u r sick will u go to a nurse or to a doctor?" how does that fit in here??

I think we should apply common sense and stop over analysing this thing.

From the profile above, the man has held top management positions within the health sector in his state; what were his achievements there? Those are the questions we need to be asking. But as typical nigerians, we judge them by the tiniest detail of their degree. The most important thing here is that he is not a novice in the sector. He cannot be bamboozled.

So who should we have as the Minister of education? A professor of neurology, cos its more difficult than being a professor of history - give me a break abeg!

With a zeal to change, experience of the sector, and experience in the top level administration, there should not be any problems.

P.S Don't ask cos I am not a doctor/nurse but it is plain to see that this is common sense, not a surgical theater!
Politics / Re: Police Are Arresting People Wearing A Fashion Brand Inscribed "police" T-shirt by buffox: 7:19am On Apr 06, 2010
@Ikengawo

The law says there cant be a state badge or anything that resembles it on the clothes!!! It is apparent the nigerian police who are almost illiterate don't even know what the law says. Police departments in advanced countries make money from memorabilia > shit, I have an NYPD mug on my table right now.

It should not be a problem wearing a tshirt that just says 'police'; what is illegal is to use it to misrepresent yourself as a policeman when you are not!!

@Netose

Chill man. . .the girl is only having some fun  grin. Light in 24 months indeed. she is just on a casual feminist campaign which should be cheered on as far as it makes sense - we can ignore the time frame details  cool

@ CILondon

so what else are we getting in 24 months? Do we also get to launch a space mission?

Thats what the article says - 'extremist christian'. We can only hope for less minds like this, regardless of the religion.

Frosbel, why are trying to get this thing to fit your arguement? Is there an 'old version' of the bible that has now been invalidated?? Abeg let us know oh.

Religion is freedom of will, believe what you want. You like to stick to the new testament 'cos it obviously suits the life we want to live today. If you want to be critical and objective about this, if there was a sect of christianity that believed in the enforcement of some of these today, the world sure would not have been a pleasant place.

And for your reference, and to show you that people can believe what they want, see below:

Violence by extremist Christians in the United States has been responsible for attacks on Jewish centers, attempts to poison municipal water supplies, bombing of abortion clinics, and shooting of abortion providers. Timothy McVeigh’s bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City during 1995 killed 168 people, including 19 children. It showed that extremist Christians can be as deadly as their extremist Islamic counterparts

Terrorism is by believe. . .the danger is in how many people believe that this is the right way we should live

frosbel:

Quote the verses !

There are obviously none of such verses that encourage the mentioned behaviour in the bible.

I need facts not just some random statement.

Go to the New Testament and retrieve scriptural texts that encourage Christians to go on a murderous rampage, slaughtering babies, women, gays etc etc .

Mr Frosbel,

You just need to be broad-minded enough to understand that these religions were spread through violent wars and conquering of lands in those days. Hence, the holy books advocate them. The application of these parts of the holy book is based on common sense in applying what obtains in the environment today.

However, as religion is sensitive and can be interpreted to mean anything, if people unfortunately pick on these wrong sides, they can use it very harmfully and could be destructive.

Back to your request for verses, please see below some examples where the bible advocates violence and killing.

QUOTES FROM THE BIBLE

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)

You should not let a sorceress live. (Exodus 22:17 NAB)

"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death. (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)

If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)

A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death. (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

Make ready to slaughter his sons for the guilt of their fathers; Lest they rise and posses the earth, and fill the breadth of the world with tyrants. (Isaiah 14:21 NAB)
and finally this verse gives reason for the crusades.

Cursed be he who does the Lords work remissly, cursed he who holds back his sword from blood. (Jeremiah 48:10 NAB)
