A reliable source in abuja has just informed me that the NSA has resigned his appointment today, probably to pursue his presidential ambition. Anyone with any info on this can add. P.S If still unconfirmed by tomorrow, moderator please delete the thread. |

bashdecash: Bash, I am happy you do not agree with what Yerima has done and would not do same if you were in the same position. With regards to the bolded, please let me have your perspective on the following: Marriage age in Islam is specified within the constraints of three conditions as below: - That the girl has reached puberty; - That there is the consent of BOTH the girl and her parents; - That she is matured enough to handle the circumstances that come with marriage. Everyone would agree the first two conditions are very measurable. If she sees her menstrual cycle, statement one applies. If she says yes and her parents say yes, statement 2 applies. But statement three for me is the bone of contention and that is why I do not agree even Islam supports what these people are doing, and it all comes down to understanding the teachings of religion to the finest detail of context. Who determines if she has the right mental and physical state to withstand what marriage comes with? We are now seeing obvious signs that a lot of girls at this age cannot withstand consequences of intimacy in marriage due to the prevalence of VVF as a disease. So how has Islam supported what this man has done? Context is the key to what you practise. That is why I blame the religious leaders for putting out roughly thought through information. It is not about cramming the Quran, but knowledge lies in the power of understanding the message. |

bashdecash: 1. So its either you have not followed this story, or you choose to turn ur back on it. The marriage did not take place in egypt because their Child protection act prohibits the marriage of girls under 18 yrs old, despite the implementation of Sharia law. Now does that give an idea of which law is supreme? 2. My friend, what is the ability to have intimacy? The fact that something can go in between her legs? Is pregnancy not the consequence of sex? Is VVF not the consequence of an underdeveloped body trying to bear a child through natural means? Please educate me on the other causes of VVF as it applies to Nigeria. Constructive arguments please. Why do you sterilize your hair clipper? afterall, its not the only way to contract aids - well thats exactly what you just said! Your mum got married at 14 does not mean others who got married at 14 did not have it. No need to ask my mum cos I know enough about this already. 3. Ok, let me break it down so you can understand. Common knowledge = general knowledge. For example, if I dont have enough fuel in my car, I might not reach my destination. Same way, if I marry a child, she might not be able to handle the rigours of marriage such as child birth and her life might be destroyed, get it?! 4. What do you mean by religious ruling? Does Islam not have provision for theft? Why do they choose to go with the nigerian law for rich people? Because their people don't have the guts to put them to test on what they preach? The day I see a local government chairman's hand get cut off, Ill give them some respect. 5. This reply started very well, but then you contradicted yourself with the way it ended. Very good thing the teachings of Islam are clear on Zina. But with this your so-called statistics of virgins (only God knows how you did it, but I dont even want to go into that), assuming what you have are accurate figures, what did you think has inspired this decision to stay a virgin? If you were in camp, they definitely were not 13 yr olds there, so it is safe to say that girls can do the right thing without having to be forced into a marriage too early it destroys their lives. |

zubeyr: Please where does this culture derive from? Because the people have been psyched and they idolise saudi arabia in everything they do. And yes the UNDP secondary school education says 29%, but who needs to go to secondary school to smell the stench from the female ward in the government hospitals all over the north filled with horrible cases of those unfortunate girls with destroyed urethras? And don't you think the early marriage is even one of the causes of this low index considering a lot of these girls have their lives mapped out before they have a second to think about it? Leadership my friend, leadership! Don't blame culture. . .lets be objective enough and tell the truth. The earlier the better, things are only getting worse!! |

bashdecash: 5 Questions Please: 1. Why did the marriage not take place in Egypt, considering they are almost a fully Islamic country? 2. Does Islam not prescribe 3 conditions for marriage, one of which is the maturity to handle the issues that come with it; of which VVF can be included in this century? 3. Do the moral values of Islam support acts that is common knowledge to have the potential of destroying another person's life, when it could be avoided without any religious laws broken? 4. If Northern Nigeria really meant well with Sharia, why do we have a bunch of one-handed teenage boys begging ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, while thieving politicians are divorcing more minors and adding new ones to their list? I would expect them to contribute to the development of the country with the enforcement of their stealing laws across board without fear, as it has a religious inclination; afterall Islam does not preach selective justice. 5. Are the same immoral values you refer to not happening in the North? So what is that is going there then, a mix of western immorality with paedophilia under the comfortable cover of religion? I agree with you some people are not objective in their hate of the north, but if you really ponder on these questions, you would understand the reason you should be cursing some of your leaders now. They have succeeded in blinding your perspective of this religion it is painful, and they are just using it for selfish gains. But who suffers? The poor girls who have no parents to stand for them, and the poor little boys who have to steal little things to be able to eat due the hard conditions inflicted by their leadership!! |

^^ If true, he has broken the Child Rights Act, that specifies 18 as the minimum marriage age. Exactly, we hear she is 13, he said she is not 13. Is that how to settle the issues? He should come out and clear himself, or he be subject to the legal process. Why are they issuing threats in the name of religion? For a lawmaker to say he is not bound by the laws of the land is enough for him to be recalled, as he took an oath to protect same! |

tosinaded@: My friend, neither the Quran nor the Bible specifies any minimum marriage age, so I wonder what you are talking about. It is common knowledge that these were the practices in those days, and girls went into puberty old enough to handle the rigours of marriage. Now whoever practised that then is a different issue as there are evidence in all the religious books I have read that this was taking place. That was around the 7th century, and this is the 21st century, times have changed. That is why I still say it is the people who are practising and not the religion. The religious leaders have the responsibility to put this information in the right context for their followers. You wouldn't hear this happening is the south and there is a large Islamic community there as well. THE PEOPLE, not the religion. If everyone was to practise to the last detail what is in the holy books, there would be no one left on this earth! |

^^ well someone that came all the way from egypt to nigeria to be a driver, u can tell he was really poor. Then the corrupt paedophile lures him with $ 100,000 in cash, what to do? He probably could not even take proper care of the child. |

^^ Thanks for the insight. Its ridiculous how these illiterates hide under the cover of sharia to do things. We understand law enforcement is a problem in nigeria, but not someone at his level. And everyone is so jittery to act, because of the comfortable cover of religious attack. The bold step needs to be taken once and for all! Why is the Legislature not saying anything? |

golamike: 1. Divine religion? I am not sure how relevant that is. every religion claims it is of God; who sets the standards? We all practise what we are handed. 2. Islam cannot be categorised into 2. Nigerians can be; the shallow-minded, and the broad-minded, as it relates to this topic. 3. Proponents of the Sharia law are the shallow-minded 4. Sharia law can be practiseed in a secular country as long as the limits are clearly defined. 5. Go and ask Obasanjo; he is the architect of all this mess. |

^^ This is no news if she did it a month ago, but it is news now. She is free to travel but I think she needs to be properly educated that she is now the first lady of the country. Suspicion 1: She was in Asaba a few days ago to 'commission' projects in Delta State. We all know Ibori is on a choke-hold and needs political help desperately. The next thing my woman is on a private trip to dubai! Suspicion 2: Why on earth is pointblanknews.com running PR for her. Praising her for not using presidential jet, and telling us of some allegedly 'gound-breaking humanitarian work she did in Bayelsa. Does that sound like a paid report?? hmmm Suspicion 3: Whoever knew Boy Joe had in-laws in Lebanon? From undisclosed mission, to visiting family and friends. Kai - naija! She might be innocent, but she needs to properly evaluate her current status and act in like terms - her life is not so private anymore. |

^^lol - e never reach twins o, but I no go mind to be twins if one person get am, d other twin suppose get am too now. Its a bit funny, I think they are being a bit too strict with their screening; Schlumberger vacancy is on there for graduate engineers, and not one person is invited. Saw the Total one as well and its for IT engineer or so. But u can actually apply directly on the vacancy when viewing it. If nothing, we go burst them that day now, abi no be inside d same hall of them go dey, ? |

Demdem: That does not go for me o. Currently on study leave so I already have a job, just trying to mix the flavour of what Ive been doing. But yea, the level of underemployed nigerians here is probably comparable, so events like these are usually an acid test of what the situation really is @ Elpieda - no one is playing down the power of his MSc ( as it wouldnt feel good for we are all holders as well), we are only being objective as the MSc relates to this specific job opportunity. Being overly optimistic that ur MSc pays you 50% more than it does the bachelors holder does not change the reality; we only hope all cases were like yours. |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Much Does Procter And Gamble Pay Msc Holders by buffox: 4:07pm On May 18, 2010 |
Chei, una just dey kill all man hope for this careers in africa thing . Me and my fellow students here have chartered a coach to take to the place o, na do or die! But yea, I feel ama27, I wonder why you are stressing MSc graduate? E dont mean nothing. P & G dont care if u have 1st class or 2.1 sef, as long as u have a bachelors and can get through their assessment stages. Even the interview is all soft skill based, only when it comes down to final selection, the MSc might be differentiating for u to get the job, but does not add unto what u get in your pay dude. But as at last check, I know grad engineers received between 250k - 300k after tax, which is not bad in naija standards. So tuck ur ivy league egos under your bed and pick up your A-level maths! |

lol. This man has resorted to mind games with nigerians, and is trying to ride his popularity to keep stringing people along. Really, what is there to hear from nigerians on facebook? Do they represent the over 60% of our population that cant afford good education or 3 meals a day? The basics are not even in place, you are going to the top to listen to problems, what rubbish. People say getting government closer to people, is that the set of people he is trying to get close to, or he is being coy and telling us he understands the power of internet bloggers now? This dude should get working and quit all this popularity seeking moves, as the only sort of move sanctioned by the entire populace are tangible results, not media propaganda. |

^^ My sentiments exactly. I don't know why people are getting excited over nothing. The only thing this man can achieve is good elections. All these other talk of power and corruption is just wishful thinking. With the level of politicking in the next few months, what can be done? Even if he buys all the power plants nigeria needs today, the earliest date they can get here is december! Everybody tone down your expectations as the only thing you would have as a measure by april next year is just his style of governance, and not any tangible achievements. |
Politics / Re: Kaduna On Red Alert As Christian Prepares To Take Over by buffox: 7:36am On May 15, 2010 |
^^ I totally agree with you my friend. no one to blame but the crazy leaders that have ruled that part of the country before, and instilled the sense of intolerance based on religious lines. Fashola is a muslim, is Lagos a muslim dominated state? Instead, all we hear is we dont want PDP to rule lagos. That is what it should be. In the north, it is about muslim/christian, how backward and narrow-minded could they have gotten? The only thing that can save them now is a succession of broad-minded leaders over the next decade or so, who would help to step down this spirit of intolerance, or else they are doomed. Rubbish people. The fulanis that brought the religion here are in senegal and other west african countries, where cohabiting is a main-stay. |
Politics / Re: Sanusi In Tears; Says Reforms Are Not A Northern Agenda! by buffox: 7:26am On May 15, 2010 |
paddy_lo: my friend no need to get overly technical about this. Share price manipulation was the in-thing and could be well backed-up before the foreign credit lines were pulled out due to the recession. See it from the lens of "stock market risk", but if the market was plain as it should have been, the losses would not be as ridiculous as we have seen; hence it is safe to say the crisis would have been more manageable. |

dem_people: LOL! Could not laugh when I read this. I would assume she was trying to say she did not like him enough and the money did not sway her. How does the guy being loaded stop you from achieving your own dreams? Did he say you must stay home because Ive got all the money we need? Femi Otedola's wife runs a laundrette (as much as I know), but she could have chosen to stay home. So I concur with you, either she got dumped, she could not resist the thought of going abroad, or the guy's money no plenty like that |
Business / Re: Cost Of Living In Lagos, Nigeria by buffox: 10:48am On May 08, 2010 |
Everyone wants to get over patriotic with these things, which is fine. However, anyone who knows the IT/Telecom industry knows that Indians run the show. Now, what would be of better importance is to know the level of experience of this guy. I am not doubting you wouldn't find one out of your 150 million odd nigerians to do the job; the bottom line is what do they want. The problem is that we are so behind our benchmark is really low, so everyone feels the slightest bit of knowledge they have, makes them the best. I meet nigerians here everyday (fresh graduates) and I ask them how much would they be offered as salary to go back to nigeria, and they say #500,000!! Fresh graduate that knows nothing and needs to be trained - well, they schooled abroad, that should count for something! Same syndrome that is happening in Zain. People are earning 7 million and don't know nothing. Now they are getting flushed out, and guess what - indians are coming for half price! |
