The 67th Emmy Awards kicked off in Los Angeles on Sunday night — and while the telecast honored small screen feats, it was the red carpet that proved to be the true tour de force.

Hollywood nominees and presenters hit the carpet braving the end-of-summer heat (97 degrees?!), and still managed to slay in lavish ballgowns, tailored suits, and everything in between.

Emmy vets like Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara and Scandal’s Kerry Washington served up glam in glitzy, metallic dresses, while stars like Emma Roberts, Tatiana Maslany, and Gina Rodriguez stunned in creamy hues.

Black was — as always — a big color on the carpet, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Taraji P. Henson, and Julianne Hough all opting to wear the color in different styles. And while each of their dresses proved worthy of accolades, it was Lady Gaga who stirred the most buzz in black. Usually known for her outlandish looks (you do remember the meat dress don’t you?), Gaga arrived to the Emmys in a simple, one-shoulder black gown by Brandon Maxwell. The understated look was wholly unexpected but very well-received.

1. Fit is King – The most dramatic improvement you can make in your style is to make sure everything fits impeccably. Most guys wear clothes that are too large. 2. Keep it simple – You want a wardrobe that looks great on you, but don’t overdo it. Don’t wear more than three pieces of jewelry or more than three colors. Don’t dress like a rock star unless you’re in a band. If you want to be flashy, a simpler but stylish look would be sporting a black striped dress shirt with a white blazer, a dark pair of jeans, a dressy belt, and your sharpest dress shoes. 3. Change the way you see casual – casual doesn’t have to be boring. Have fun with collared shirts, or take some inspiration from those who approach casual a bit differently.

4. Pay attention to your supporting pieces – Some sweaters are lean and others are big and chunky. The first rule of thumb is that your top and bottom halves need to match. If you’re wearing a big, chunky, rugged fisherman knit sweater, your bottom needs to be rugged, too. Don’t wear a fisherman’s sweater with a beautiful silk-and-wool suit pant. Instead, wear it with something as casual as cargos or jeans, or dress it up with a Harris tweed blazer.

5. Never go shopping alone – Most of the time, it’s tough to trust the sales people because they usually work for commission. Shop with a friend who will give you their honest opinion. Also, read about shopping on a budget.

6. Stay a notch above – Don’t overdo it to a fault, but dare to take some risks. It’s always better to be a little bit overdressed than underdressed in any setting. All you have to do is think about where and who you’re going to be with and just step it up one notch. But make sure you’re not better dressed than someone who is more important in a certain setting, like your boss.

7. Never underestimate the power of details – The last thing on is usually the first thing noticed. So mind the details instead of throwing together the main parts of your outfit. “Details” can include a scarf, a subtle pocket square, or the way you tie your tie knot.

8. Invest in a superb pair of shoes – If it’s one thing that women will notice, it’s your shoes. Especially how clean and sharp they look. It’s easy to wash and press the rest of your clothes to keep them looking new, but most guys disregard their shoes. Show that you’re a man of taste by getting a great pair of shoes and keeping them in pristine condition.

9. Fashion Tees with logos – When you’re going around with a big logo on your shirt, you risk looking like a walking billboard. Lose the lame Coca-Cola shirt and go for a classic v-neck tee or something artsy .

10. Disregard trends – Beware of buying something just because it’s “in” right now – stick to what you truly like. A lot of people rush to get in on the latest trend and end up with a bunch of clothes they don’t wear. It’s better to learn to build a versatile and timeless wardrobe first – then bring in your own twists with some of the new fashion. This one tip will save you so much money! 11. Don’t be a sucker for brand names – Don’t be a Patrick Bateman. Before you decide to purchase an item, ask yourself if you are buying it simply because of the brand name or because you love the quality and style. Arrow‘s Oliver (Stephen Amell) may be back to

The Minions could be storming Elsa’s ice castle
to capture the title of highest-grossing animated
film of all time.
Early this week Minions, a spin-off of the
popular Despicable Me franchise, added to its
lucrative worldwide gross with a $20.1 million
opening in China. The animated film that
features the familiar voices of Sandra Bullock,
Jon Hamm, and Michael Keaton has grossed
$748 million internationally and has now
earned $1.08 billion worldwide, per Ace
Showbiz.
MTV points out that the film is quickly catching
up to Disney’s 2013 blockbuster Frozen (and its
$1.26 billion gross) for the title of highest-
grossing animated film of all time.
Those lofty box office numbers have already
knocked one beloved animated titan out of the
top two spots: Toy Story 3. The toys may have
been back in town for the third installment of
Disney’s popular franchise, but the film’s $1.06
box office haul is now only good enough for
third place, thanks to those meddling Minions.
So does Minions have a chance to topple Frozen
and claim the top spot? In a word, Yes. Never
underestimate the craftiness of a Minion.
The film’s last international release will take
place in Greece on September 24. If Minions can
earn another $20 million, it will surpass Frozen
to become the highest grossing animated film of
all time.

6 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
ABOUT ‘THE BIG BANG THEOR
SEASON 9
Between all the Lenny and Shamy drama, last
season’s The Big Bang Theory certainly left us
all on the edge of our seats wondering what was
ahead for some of our favorite characters.
Thankfully, the wait is almost over and we’ll
soon have our answers to some of the biggest
cliffhangers left unresolved in season eight. To
prepare you for season nine of the CBS hit
sitcom, we’ve rounded up six of the biggest
scoops you should know about before The Big
Bang Theory returns.
1. There will be a Star Wars-themed episode
Fan all over the world have caught Star Wars
fever again, and the boys of The Big Bang
Theory aren’t immune to the hype. According to
executive producer Steve Molaro, Sheldon (Jim
Parsons), Leonard (Johnny Galecki), and the rest
of the gang will partake in a Star Wars-themed
episode next season that will be centered
around the highly anticipated The Force
Awakens, set to hit theaters this December.
“Obviously we’re all excited about [The Force
Awakens] just as human beings— and the
characters are as well,” Molar told ET. “I don’t
know exactly who it’s going to play in, but it
won’t be ignored.”
2. Penny and Leonard will tie the knot.
The last we saw of Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and
Leonard, the couple were on a road trip to
Vegas to tie the knot. While there was a bit of
speculation as to whether or not Lenny would
actually make it down the aisle, Molaro let slip
recently that fans shouldn’t worry too much.
According to EP, season nine will find the
couple married.
“[The marriage] is really only the beginning of
the story,” Molaro told CinemaBlend. “As fun
and as great as it is to see them get married,
that’s only part of it.”
3. But their marriage may be off to a rocky
start!
Leonard’s confession of having kissed a woman
named Mandy while on his North Sea
expedition last season had fans worried that
Lenny might be splitting up again. Thankfully,
we now know that’s far from the case, but even
so, it looks like Penny and Leonard’s
honeymoon phase might be off to a rocky start
— especially considering Mandy will be stepping
into the picture this season.
So who’s the actress that’s nabbed the role of
the other woman? It’s Mom star, Melissa Tang!
Fans can expect to see Mandy show up during
the second episode of the season.
4. Amy’s backstory might be coming.
During this year’s Comic-Con panel, one fan
asked if we’ll ever get a good look at Amy’s past
and her family. After actress Mayim Bialik
enthusiastically told the crowd she’d love to
know all about Amy’s past, Molaro confirmed
that an Amy backstory is indeed coming. Writer
Eric Kaplan then chimed in with, “You may
learn she has a great, great uncle who didn’t
always play by the rules.”
That’s certainly a cryptic tease, but here’s
hoping we get to discover all these things this
season. Perhaps we’ll get introduced to the
Fowler clan if and after Sheldon pops the
question?
5. Amy and Sheldon’s relationship will be
resolved straight away.
Speaking of Sheldon and Amy, the last time we
saw the couple, their relationship had hit a bit
of a rough patch. A frustrated Amy had just told
Sheldon she needed some space from their
relationship, not knowing that Sheldon had in
fact been preparing to take the next step — he’d
even bought an engagement ring and was
planning to propose!
Naturally, the one question on everyone’s mind
is, “Will Sheldon be proposing despite Amy’s
request to break things off for a bit?” According
to Molaro, we won’t have to wait long to find
out.
“The answer will be in the premiere episode of
season 9,” promised the showrunner at this
year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
6. A nod to Ghostbusters will be making its way
on to the show.
Star Wars isn’t the only big film The Big Bang
Theory will reference this season. Fans can also
expect to see a nod to the original Ghostbusters
franchise, though the showrunners apparently
needed a bit of help to make sure it happened.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in order
to get a clip featuring actor Bill Murray cleared
for use, creator Chuck Lorre had to call in a
favor to Murray’s brother Joel, who had been
on Lorre’s Dharma and Greg. After Lorre made
the call, Joel in turn called his brother, who
then called studio execs and made sure the
TBBT showrunners had access to whatever they
needed to incorporate the nod into season nine.
The Big Bang Theory returns to CBS for season 9
on Monday, September 21.
