My Father was born into a polygamous islamic family of seven wives(Islam limits to 4 wives but some Yoruba men exceed that number). He grew to loath polygamy due to the many family problems he faced. This made him and his siblings particularly not rooted or interested in Islam either. He ended up marrying the daughter of an Anglican Clergy and it was just so easy to flip him to Christianity. Considering that his own mother was a Catholic from Delta who converted to Islam to marry his Dad as third wife in Oyo State, there was particularly no strong family resistance for him to marry a Christian.

Three of his four Siblings also converted to Christianity mostly by marital influence while one remains a Muslim till today.

While my father is not a fan of religion in general. His decision to change to Christianity altered the course of the family's religion.

The controversy surrounding the Nigeria Bar Association and the Unilorin student who was denied a call to Nigeria Bar has been generating controversy since two days now. Even the President of Nigeria Bar Association have waded into the controversy as promised that everything will be resolved as soon as possible.

The former Aviation Minister Chief Femi Fani-Kayode (SAN) has blamed the student in question Amasa Firdaus, who was denied ‘call to bar’ by officials of the Council of Legal Education (CLE) for failing to remove her veil, otherwise known as hijab.

Fani kayode said Firdaus was only being childish and disingenuous as Nigeria is a secular state and she cannot insist on wearing a religious garb during a secular ceremony. The former minster, while reacting via his Twitter handle said;

”The girl that insisted on wearing her hijab during her call to the Nigerian bar was being childish and disingenuous. ”You cannot insist on wearing religious garb during a secular ceremony and she is not the first Muslim to be called to the Nigerian bar. Nigeria is a secular state.”

According to a report shared by a social media user,Rev. Fr Chiedozie Modestus Chilaka(not a Roman Catholic priest) allegedly raised a dead man back to life in Owerri on 13th December 2017.The person who shared the story said he was an eyewitness to the incident.

Nigerians need to be educated on places where one dare not use a cell phone because doing so put ones and other lives at risk. These include any location where a flammable material or product is stored or being sold. Among these are gas or petrol station, natural gas sales outlet, and others. Go on YouTube and view result of such fatal decision. In fact if you want to become more aware about safety and risks related to things we take for granted, you will learn some lessons here as someone some where learned the hard way.

I am sure the location where the accident occurred does not have the required safety warning signs.

Some Nairalanders are funny for their epic comments like "Village people" "itz a lie" etc Dont u guys go to petrol station & see the sign that switch off ur phone here. Phn calls emits radioactive waves & can trigger explosions where there is/are highly inflammable matter

Very simple, phone emits Electromagnetic wave and one of the characteristic of electromagnetic wave is high energy in form of heat, may be during filling of the cylinder there was much accumulation of heat from the phone which collided with the gas molecules leading to the ignition and note electromagnetic wave is invisible. People with little knowledge of physics will understand better.

It is common knowledge that telephone calls come with sparks and that is why it is forbidden to pick calls when in a filling station. I would think that in a gas station they would insist that phones are switched off before you enter to re-fill. Even in common embassies here they wont let you go in with phones, how much more a gas station!

Few months back , Discovery Channel broadcasted an experiemt on same topic.
They put a mobile near the opening on Gas tank and executed several tests.
They found that Petrol vapours coming out from gas tank while filling caught fire only in case where mobile phone received a call/ringing but not while call was already on. Also it did not catch fire where cell was not being used.
It was interesting.

Explanation which they provided was that petrol vapours catch fire more easily than liquid petrol+ Mobile radiation increases multifild when your cell starts ringing.

So they proved there is a possibility. Several conditions like Weather, clothing, different mobile instruments are known to increase the possibility of a fire and if there is a fire ,consequences are very dangerous for ppl around. So why to take that risk. Keep the cell a little farther from Hose.
That urgent call can not be more important then lives of you and ppl around.

Quite sad. but this is totally avoidable. I am sure there will be enough safety signage prohibiting the use of phone in such a place. this should serve as a lesson to us all. do not use your phone at a petrol station, let alone a gas station.
