SO what exactly is the basis of their claim?  An accident of history!  The truth is, the only thing they really deserve is to be compensated for the damage to the environment often caused by oil extraction.  Oil spillages and gas flaring have harmed their environment and in some cases made fishing difficult, so they should be compensated for that and nothing more.  Afterall, their forefathers did not plant the oil

Ok leave Niger delta alone ,
What did your forefathers plant for you?

Rottweiler:

Hello guys (yankee-based and all)
From all your postings, I could deduce that you guys haven't been in the CORE south-south before or you don't know the politics of the zone. For your info, I am based in the heart of the south-south and i know a damn lot. What guys get from BBC, FOX NEWS, CNN etc are not the main truth. Imagine a BBC reporter based in Abuja and giving reports of what's happening in Yenegoa, Okrika, Bonny, Nembe, Brass, Tombia, Degema, etc. If the reporter is as bold as what they make us believe let him/her come down south.
I don't support terrorism in any form but I challenge people to come down south and see the state of affairs and compare with other parts of the country. These people have been deprived for so long. Now they have realised that they can hold the government by its balls because of the terrain. What can the military really do? They don't know the mangrooves, creeks like these boys. Even if they decide to shell the whole place they would end up destroying all the oil facilities along. These boys move in the night and our military (naval & amphibious brigades) are not trained for this! Does the government even train them?

What caused the defeat of the Americans in Vietnam - the TERRAIN! Has any of you ever flown in a chopper over the niger delta? come down here and experience it, then you would have a better understanding of what I am talking about. We learnt the government spent about a 1billion Naira as ransome to free the last hostages. With this attitude they are already encouraging other splinter groups that they could make easy money! That is not the solution. There should be a genuine repentance by the government followed by genuine/visible actions geared towards developing the place and providing the basic human needs.
You think it's child's play? SHELL has already cut daily production by more than 350,000 barrels. multiply this by the cost of a barrel of crude oil ($62). If they decide to blow up more facilities the total production cut could rise to 1million.

We as a nation should get our acts right and do the right thing. My brothers/sisters, the truth of the matter is that when Late Gen. Sani Abacha took jobless youths to Abuja for the 2million man march, he didn't know that he was only helping the boys with enligntenment. They could not believe their eyes when they got to Abuja! It was like paradise to them. To them, Abuja does not produce oil, so how come it's better developed than the south - no potholes, steady electricity, skyscrappers, etc. But back home where they see the gas flares 24/7, where a kid can identify a christmas tree (well head), flowstation, oil pipes, etc, they suffer soil degredation and water/air pollution, harrassment by security details of oil companies. The beautiful jeeps plying the untarred roads day-by-day. The agitation intensified.

People should not stay outside the state and say things that they don't know. A stitch in time, I rest my case.

Tell them.
Make then hear, if them get ears
Forget all these guys who are so excited living abroad, i pity them,
We are all here and as far as i'm concerned -home is home

@ Bunking

Sorry couldnt tell if you were male or female. You kind of missed my point . MouthAction is now very common i agree but black men have more of a problem with it compared to white folks. I am speaking generally here of course while you seem to be talking about your experience.

Didnt say it was wrong , just not my thing. Enjoy and you perhaps should have read my post

I'm also speaking generally too.
I understand you now, having made it clear to me,
that you're speaking for yourself and not blackmen in general.
I disagree that blackmen have a problem, except those living in the 80's.

ono:

Otokx, Conscience,
I greet una. There's nothing like starting from somewhere in fighting corruption. It's either you are against corruption, and you are seen to be doing just that, or you are for it. There's nothing like sitting on the fence and eating from both sides. OBJ is sitting on the fence. I have said it time and again on this forum that OBJ is a corrupt man.

He has dined with the devil, his hands are soiled with blood. The bloods of the Opposition. What with the lives of the slain AGF - Chief Bola Ige. Where are the culprits fingered in the murder case of the man? Sen. Iyiola Omisore was elected while he was in prison. Former PDP Deputy Chairman South South, Dikibo was slain by gunmen, his killers are yet to be unmasked. What type of corruption fighter will admit the likes of Chris Uba as party member - sorry, chieftain, even when the guy confessed that he rigged the election in Anambra in 2003?

All these Balogun and Afolabi talks do not move me an inch. Those guys fell out of favour with OBJ. When the going was good for years and the boys were delivering as promise, EFCC did not go after them. We all know how brutal OBJ can be with anybody who crossed his paths.

Is it not strange that Tony Blair did not reply OBJ's letter on Alams escape. Maybe, he replied OBJ, in private, why did he (OBJ) not release it to the public for all to read? I bet it was not palatable.

Otokx, Conscience, those who tell the truth hardly get any support in this world. The truth is bitter, but we must tell it as it is. More grease to your elbow.

Ono, I want to agree with you. I have been following all the contributions of that chap called Conscience and i must say here that he has such high intellect and maturity than all his adversaries  put together. He is one of the best here, raising issues for intellectual and political discuss
He makes me feel proud of being a nigerian.
Conscience,Where ever you are,  please keep the flag flying and reach me for your prize won.
You keep this forum alive. smiley If you are in Nigeria, please can we meet in April 2006 , when i will be coming home.
