Rossikk:Well put Rossikk, dangerous love was great read. I always felt though he never quite matched Famished. Road with the other sequel, songs of enhantchment. Glad you are here and a lover of literature. I was inspired by you to join nairaland..I admire the way you defend the black brotha not for the sake of mere solidarity but as a truism-that all races are equal but varieties of reason, some in fact external forces and the same people we adore have oppressed other races. I shall not quite be as shall we say, heavy handed to others as you do..more of a yan to your yin. persuading them to be more circumspect about their beliefsRespect brotha |
We are a rich country, Op Corruption has made the riches not trickle.down..dont let anybody deceive you |

It was highly unprofessional of the official Nigeria police Facebook page to update the elections result as they came in..I liked them on Facebook and noticed it..even then I commented to.people around me, if Jonathan loses this. The IG has to go. And then for him to be present as Buhari accepted his certificate was unnecessary. This is not about Buhari or Jonathan, the armed forces should be above partisan politics. And IG Suleiman has been overtly partisan ironically his brazen support for PDP was in vain. Another one bites the dust. Fare thee well Suleiman. |
Volksfuhrer:But I didn't ab initio make an attempt to show one is better than the other, I just made a point which by the way, is the agreed norm that one fiction especially of different genre cannot be 'greater' than another.. Can you say Hemingway the old man... Is better than vs Naipaul masque of Africa..both are literature but of different variety. Appreciate writers and don't bother so much about ranking..you could.compare good, bad and great writers. Achebe to my mind given his whole opus is on a higher plane to Okri. But that's is not precise science just an opinion. |
May the both sides lose. |
nsiazu:Okay, I stand to be corrected but am assuming these are cities and maybe the coverage is for places like parks and other popular spots eg malls, markets. Impressive though if this for the whole country. Thanks for the enlightenment. |
hifaif:No, I disagree. Tfa is not overrated..okri famished road is magic realism, Tfa is a sociological work, that is well written..its like comparing apples and watermelon. Both are fruits but of different taste. They are both good works in their own rights. Achebe is a great writer and we don't measure how good a writer is by his production levels but by profundity. Examples abound of writers who wrote just one or two masterpieces. |
nsiazu:No country to my knowledge will give you free WiFi. Maybe subsidized to lower it or effective regulations to ensure you get what you pay for. |
1. Achebe: for bringing the world attention through things fall apart.he wrote it when he was 27 years. Sit down and digest that.27 years old 2. Soyinka; what has not been said about the great man. From poetry to plays and then novels, he has few rivals in the world presently. His crowning moment, the Nobel prize still unequalled By another black African writer since 87 3. Adichie; Achebe literary daughter. The lady sure can write. 4. Ben okri; has there been a better magic realism from.Africa since Famished road? Don't think so. 5. Teju Cole; highly cerebral. Soyinkaesque in his use of the devices of literature. 6. Sefi Atta: distilled fiction writing, very witty. I would include Okey Ndibe among them, his latest novel, was a tour de force. Foreign God inc. His essays are also very well written. Not read the rest OP but special mentions to Helon Habila for winning the Caine prize. Have not read his works Nigeria is blessed with writing and am not talking about the jargons of Patrick Obaighbon. In the north, I enjoy the essays of Gimba Kakanda. The brother is good. Nothing makes a day like good fiction. |
South Africa lacks leadership. Zuma has been a disappointment. Hopefully Malema will challenge him in the next elections. Zuma has Atiku as one of his closest pals, that should tell you everything about the man. |
nsiazu:Yes. NTA did or tried to years back. With political will and commitment, why not. We are not supposed to pay so much for data in Nigeria, but the NCC does not do a good job of enforcement so the tel.companies get away with murder. Nothing in this world is not possible if you have good leadership and money. Nigeria has one of that, the other one has been missing. Hopefully sai buhari will make us smile again |
In4matic:a combination of technology and economic development making this possible.. the government has not as some believe by fiat shut down operators of FM stations rather through market forces, radio stations on their own are leaving analogy technology and embracing digital and then the end users, Norway has one of the most friendliest wifi services in the world; so more people have digital access and then with more cars been fitted with digital audio equipment its a natural fallout. From what I read, its actually cheaper for the radio stations to completely digitize than continue with the analog system. read more here;http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2015/04/20/in-first-norway-will-shut-off-fm-radio-in-2017/ |
Maybe people are so critical of this guy because we don't do stuff like this in Nigeria, hopefully more people like this will open the avenue for future adventures to raise awareness or for a charity. I personally believe he took the journey, even if he was helped here and there by people, by cars- he does not have to walk the whole distance on foot .. you have heard of Europeans and others who fly solo around the world, they chart the routes and don't necessarily visit all the countries of the world. and in any case, Fulani herdsmen walk similar distance. |
No, he wont. this is just a blogger or newspaper looking for traffic. He said he has been in prison for the last 16 years and then now he is free; going back to campaigning? Jonathan will become a statesman in his own right, far better than Obj for quickly conceding. He will be sent on troubleshoot missions around Africa. Hopefully the pressure of been out of office will bring out his leadership qualities to make a difference in such cases. He has tried and he does not strike me as someone ready for insults again. In any case PDP is dead for now. I hope they dig in and rebuild but looks like PDP is going down faster than a one legged whor.e from Paris. |
Goes to show that these so called big men are just interested in their own families and interest. rumor has it David Mark owns a home in Belize, his daughter was controlling the sham of park and pay in Abuja until recently and yet he cannot influence a standard hospital in his hometown; a place many years back he probably was delivered of as a baby. God will punish all these senseless wicked politicians. sai Buhari; frugality is to be admired. |
